Anchor objects on spread don't appear in pdf

CS5 / Mac 10.6.4. Bug? I have multiple anchored objects in a long document. If the anchor reference is on the same page as the anchor object, all is fine on the pdf. If the anchor reference is on the opposite page (of a spread) then the anchored object doesn't appear on the pdf.

Mac Preview is not and never has been completely compatible with Adobe PDF's. You would want to take that up with Apple.

  • Paragraph rules don't appear in pdf

    I have a problem with a paragraph rule. The rule is in a paragraph style that always appears on right pages (chapter opening). I set a negative indent so the rule extends through all the left page. It appears ok in indesign,…
    but when I export a pdf, the rule appears only in the right page, not in the left…
    The same happens when i generate a pdf through print command (even though the indesign document prints right in the printer).

    Unchecking "Crop Image Data to Frames" I had the same result. If I export the pdf with "spreads" checked, it appears right.
    With a drawn rule it worked. It'll probably be the solution, since in this layout the rule is always on the same position. If it was applied on the chapter title, it could change the position because of the title's lenght, and then it would be more complicated…
    It seems that it's simply the way the software works, there are some things you just can't do.
    Thanks!

  • Objects don't appear in PDF

    Am using Acrobat Professional 9.2.0 with Mac OSX 10.6.5.
    After saving files, when re-opening in Preview 5.0.3 as a pdf file only,
    some objects fail to appear.
    When re-opening in Acrobat, all objects appear as originally created.
    My callout objects all appear, but some of my polygon objects don't.

  • Lines being printed that don't appear on PDF document created in Illustrator.. Pulling my hair out!

    So here's the story:
    I own a company that designs and sells sewing patterns for men's clothing to be made by home sewers. I have my patterns professionally drafted and sent to me as a poster-sized PDF. I then open it in Illustrator, move things around, change some fonts, etc... and make a 34" wide copy to be printed at a copy shop. That's all fine and dandy, and it prints out perfectly.
    I then use Acrobat XI Pro to open the 34" version and print to Adobe PDF with the poster setting of 7.5" x 10" for people to print at home. Then I open each page of the multi-page PDF in Illustrator to add a border, alignment marks, page numbers, etc... and save as the same PDF.
    Now here is where the weirdness begins. For some reason, there are random chunks of lines (identical to the pattern lines throughout the rest of the document) that aren't supposed to be there. They don't show up on my screen when I open the file in Illustrator or Adobe, but they get printed every time. I've even started the whole process from scratch, tested the 34" wide version at the print shop (prints perfectly), and split it into pages again, and the phantom lines are still there!
    I've attached a photo I took of one of the pages in question. The file on my screen is the exact one I printed, and as you can see, they are definitely not the same
    Can anyone help me? I can send the PDF files in question if need be!
    Oh and if it helps, I have been saving the PDF files as Press Quality from Illustrator. Any other settings/info you need? Thanks very much in advance!

    Yep, it definitely is a complicated workflow... But I'm not really sure of any other way to get from the 34" wide pattern to the home-sewing version which is split into pages and has alignment marks and whatnot. I'm very much an amateur that has figured it out as I went
    I went through the page in the photo pretty thoroughly with the layer panel and I couldn't find any mystery lines... But I did find something interesting; when I click on any of the pattern lines, it shows the whole line of the pattern piece, which extends well past the edge of the artboard. So when I'm printing the poster-sized PDF to 7.5x10 pages, it's keeping all the anchor points of a line even if only a small piece of that is on the actual page.
    Does this help? I've included the page in the photo as well http://www.putlocker.com/file/DADB4759DBB860D8
    Thanks again to everyone!
    Also, should I be keeping all the files I'm editing as .ai files and then only exporting to PDF for the very final product? I was doing that at first, but then using .pdf for the whole process didn't seem to make any difference.

  • Crop Marks don't appear in pdf (Illustrator CS4)

    Hi everyone,
    I've used the crop marks command (under the effects menu) on a rectangle that is the size of the artboard. I then created a pdf of the document and made sure there was enough bleed to encompass these crop marks, ie. 20mm all round. When I open up the pdf though no crop marks appear.
    Can someone tell me why this is happening?
    Appreciate any help.

    It does do that but it should not show the bleeds as a part of the document it should the document size should be differentiated from the bleed and crop and printer marks area.
    You should be able to turn them off for better review purpose with clients and the thing that Acrobat does automatically is to fit the document to the paper size. This I think is a mistake as the ordinary user might not understand what is happening.
    If you want to print the document at a 100% it has to go on a paper and to a print that prints documents of a larger size.
    It should be clearer as we have reach a point in time where there are most users who have no old world experience with the printing press and plate making so many will not get this true once pointed out it will appear to them as a no brainer.
    Also with Acrobat becoming a presentation and conferencing tool for client review in a very live way the ability to turn the bleeds and marks off with a click is very necessary especially hen you have a dead head executive on the other end saying that they never approved that design feature. You can then just click hide the crops or pint out that those marks are outside the documents page size and won't print.
    No matter how much sense it makes to you and me because we are very experience with this there will always be people outside our profession that will have a hard time with this and many within our profession as well.
    I was aware this was finally included in CS4 but I think it can be improved admittedly you can send a copy of the pdf without bleeds and marks. But you have no control over what they might do on the other side and i have seen some pretty stupid things.
    In th old days you know the account exec would come into the art dept and pick the comp off of your drawing table and take his finger and run it over the art and ask is this wet?
    I guess I don't have to tell anyone the answer to that question.

  • Items outside of Document Setup size don't appear in PDF

    I have a document which I'm saving as a PDF with Preserve Illustrator Editing Capability selected. When I open this PDF in Acrobat critical elements just outside of the Document Setup size are not showing up. These are critical for the production but unless they are physically touching the Document Setup boundary they disappear from the PDF. How can I get these marks  and other elements to stay in the PDF side of the document without increasing the document size?
    MAC OS 10.5.8
    Illustrator CS3

    Can you post a screen shot I am not certain I understand what you man by essential objects?
    Here I just duplicated the art board and put some extra text on the second artboard and all the marks were on the first and second page of the pdf.
    I don't say you don't have a good point but what I think they should have is a feature like ID but that can be included in the pdf which is a library
    similar to the symbols panel that you could perhaps access fro acrobat for placement but what one can do is to put essential content on a layer and turn it off and export as a pdf as 1.8 acrobat compatible and when opened in Acrobat you can access that content in Acrobat by turning on the layer.

  • Shockwave flash object in Word doesn´t appear in PDF (Acrobat X Pro 10.1.4)

    I have a Microsoft Word document with many shockwave flash objects linked to graphs. The Word document has macro that dynamically links these graphs (SWF files) to the shockwave flash objects. The graphs aren't embedded, they are linked because they have to be loaded when the Word document is opened.
    In the Word document the graphs are loaded OK but when the Word document is converted to a PDF the graphs are shown completely blank.
    Does anyone know why it happens and if there's a solution to this problem?

    hi thanks Bernd, 2 questions:
    Can Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro do this (as well as Extended - from the product comparsion chart it seems so...)?
    If the full version can, does the trial version also enable this - am not really looking forwards to paying for software & then finding still yet to be resolved..?
    Thanks for this, others also interested on various sites will keep them informed.

  • Placed .eps files w/ spot white don't appear in PDF

    This happens on and off and I am completely flummoxed. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

    Original logo is created in Illustrator, so I saved it as an .eps for scalability in InDesign. What format should I be using instead?
    Also, logo white was initially a process and I set it to spot. This has resolved the issue other times, but not this time.

  • Easier anchored objects

    I think it would be great if anchor points were easier to use.  I know how to create an anchored object, but I don't usually because they are a hassle.  It would be much easier if anchor points could be added to objects that are already there.  Also when I use text wrapping with an anchored graphic, it does not always work, depending on the vertical alignment with the anchor point.

    All layers are on
    @Annie – this is not relevant, because anchored objects ("inline" or "custom" makes no difference) are tied to the layer of their parent text frame.
    1. The objects could be "hidden".
    There is a contriol for that to bring back all hidden objects on a spread:
    alt + cmd + 3 (for InDesign on Mac OSX)
    2. The objects could be set to "No Printing" and you look at your document with the "View / Overprint Preview" checked. You can control the "No Printing" in the Attributes Panel.
    3. A combination of 1. and 2.
    4. The objects are removed…
    Could happen with a TEXT or GREP search/replace action that happens to include all anchor characters in your text.
    5. …

  • Releasing Anchored objects

    I saw a couple of earlier posts with code for releasing an anchored object ( http://forums.adobe.com/click.jspa?searchID=2331267&objectType=2&objectID=1109584 and http://forums.adobe.com/click.jspa?searchID=2331267&objectType=2&objectID=2062943 ) but I'm not sure how to make this work for my current situation, so would one of you folks give me a hand, please?
    I'm building a directory where business names are in one paragraph style that is a numbered list, but each of these paragraphs has anchored at the the beginning a frame containing proprietor names and phone numbers in other separate paragraph styles. I need to build an alphabetical index of stores and proprietors with the index number from the list. This actually isn't too hard to organize because I can set the numbered list style to start on next page, thereby making the list number and page number the same, but I need to release all the anchored objects so they don't get pulled in as part of the store name. I figure this should be pretty simple, so how about it? CS4, if it matters.
    Peter

    I didn't check the posts you mentioned, but I remembered there was a catch (an anchored object is identified only by having 'anchoredObjectSettings'). The extra try..catch surrounding the 'release' ought to shield you from oddities, as in "you can't release an anchored graphic".
    Other than that ... perhaps it's easier if you can select a text frame to release everything within? Or at once everything in the entire document?

  • Edir OU Objects Don't appear in Management Console

    ZEN ESM Ver 3.5.0.154
    I have created OU in Console One and created a Group so I can publish Policies to the group to reduce administration. The OU does not show up in the management console. I have tried rebooting, syncronising and loggin into the OU as well, with no luck.

    Hi there,
    With build 3.5.177 almost all of the issues you described are solved. The eDirectory integration part was greatly improved - I also suffered the issues you described in the previous releases, and you had to re-create the directory configuration in order for the new eDir objects to show up. Novell client is also not required anymore - pure LDAP communication.
    As for encryption, I understand your pain as I passed for the same situation. The encryption filter driver is now improved and you'll not notice any impact on performance once you enabled it. Previous requirement for encrypting only non-system volume was almost unpracticable as no customer that I know of had more than one partition on their laptops.
    In summary, I think it's worth to take a look.
    We are here to help if any issue arises.
    Good luck,
    Daniel

    Sorry it's been a while but gave up after Novell tech sup informed me
    that this was an issue in what was the current version at the time.
    Groups that are created before the install of ESM show up and can be
    published to, however, after ESM is installed if you create OU in NDS it
    never shows up. Tech supp said this was an issue they hoped to resolve
    in future releases. Besides this issue the data encyption had problems
    as well, once the policy was published with data encryption dir the PC
    utilistation went through the roof, again a bug confirmed by Novell.
    There answer to this was a change that created bigger problems for our
    company, you could only publish encrypted data dir to non system
    volumes, however all our PCs in our company only have one partition.
    Too big a job to create additional partitions to support this change.
    I was using 3.5 ir5 when I experienced these issues.
    I am querying this with novell since there seems to be an IR6 version
    now. I doesn't show up on our product list yet. When it does I have
    been tasked with testing it again to see if the bugs are out of it.

    You will need to find a forum for MS Word since that is the software that you are trying to manipulate in this.  If you think the processing/creation of the PDF plays a role then you should ask in the forum for the software that you are using to create the PDF.
    This forum is for issue regarding downloading and installing Adobe trial products, so in any circumstance, your issue does not fit in this forum.

  • Adobe Muse: scroll objects don't appear in businesscatalyst

    I am using the latest version of Adobe Muse, Muse CC 2014.2, I believe. When I "preview in browser," all my objects with scroll features enabled appear, but when I publish to my temporary business catalyst site at xxx.businesscatalyst.com, any object that has a scroll feature enabled does not appear on the site. I did not have this problem before the latest updates. Any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    No idea if this will work for a you but a good rule of thumb I like to follow when something goes wrong with business catalyst is to publish the site again and select "All Files" instead of "Only Modified Files" from the publish settings in Muse.

  • Anchored Objects with text wrap, need vertical space

    Hi.  I'm a fairly new InDesign user and have just this past week learned about anchored objects, threading text frames, numbered lists, and some other fun options. So far InDesign has done most everything I need fairly elegantly. However, I have not been able solve one issue.
    In my book I have numerous pages that have this issue; I'll just describe one case. On this page there are 4 graphics running down the right side of the page. These are not anchored graphics. They do have text wrap defined on the left side and bottom. There is text that wraps lovely on the left.
    Each of these four graphics has a specific paragraph it needs to top align with. However, the text it aligns with may not take up as much vertical space as the graphic does. When I anchor each graphic with the paragraph it needs to align with, the four graphics overlap each other.
    At the moment, to make it look right, I have placed each graphic individually and added a blank paragraph above each paragraph of text that should align with a graphic and use the Space Above of each blank paragraph to have it align with the graphic.
    I'm not even sure what to search to try and solve this. I looked briefly into compound paths, but that didn't look like it would help.
    I hope this is clear and thank you for any assistance at all.
    Andrea

    No problem. Click your cursor somewhere in the paragraph that ought to be aligned with the next image down, then run this Javascript.
    It's not entirely accurate, as it uses the font size to do a minimal adjustment where it actually should use the font's cap height -- but you cannot get to that through scripting. This final adjustment is necessary because ID does know the baseline, and your first line ought to dip just below this to have the top of the first line aligned to the top of the image.
    //DESCRIPTION:Align paragraph with image.
    // Jongware, 15-Jul-2010
    if (app.selection.length == 1 && app.selection[0].hasOwnProperty ("baseline") && app.selection[0].paragraphs[0].index > 0)
         // find nearest image on the right
         ypos = app.selection[0].paragraphs[0].lines[0].baseline;
         pg = app.selection[0].parentTextFrames[0];
         while (1)
              if (pg instanceof Character)
                   pg = pg.parentTextFrames[0];
              if (pg instanceof Spread || pg instanceof Page)
                   break;
              if (pg instanceof Document || pg instanceof Application)
                   exit(0);
              pg = pg.parent;
         img = pg.allGraphics;
         dist = 999999;
         nearest = null;
         for (i=0; i<img.length; i++)
              if (img[i].geometricBounds[0] > ypos && Math.abs(img[i].geometricBounds[0] - ypos) < dist)
                   dist = Math.abs(img[i].geometricBounds[0] - ypos);
                   nearest = img[i];
         if (nearest == null)
              alert ("no image found nearby!");
         else
              prevm = app.activeDocument.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits;
              app.activeDocument.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits = MeasurementUnits.POINTS;
              top = nearest.geometricBounds[0];
              ypos = app.selection[0].paragraphs[0].lines[0].baseline;
              if (ypos < top)
                   app.selection[0].paragraphs[0].spaceBefore = top-app.selection[0].pointSize-app.selection[0].parentStory.paragraphs.previousItem(app.selection[0].paragraphs[0]).lines[-1].baseline;
              app.activeDocument.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits = prevm;
    This image shows three paragraphs aligned with their respective images (it won't work on the first paragraph, but that ought not to be necessary anyhoo).

  • Problem with anchored objects in file from CS4

    I opened, in CS5, a file which was done in CS4 and discovered all my anchored objects were gone!
    Analising the document, I understood they were there, but in a kind of mask ("Illustrator style") but in a text frame, which is odd, I think.
    I show here:
    1. one picture of the CS4 file
    2. one picture of the same file, but opened in CS5
    3. one picture of this file, in CS5, showing the "ghost" when I put the cursor over the "missing" anchored object
    If I cut and paste the objects they appear, but if I put them back like anchored objects, they disapear again.
    I had to fix every thing in a document I was working (it's a 124 pages document...) without anchored objects, just grouped them, because it was urgent (as always...) but I am reporting this because maybe people hadn't notice this and maybe there's a way to fix this.

    It's very hard to tell what might be causing this without seeing the actual file. I looked around and found a CS4 file on my suystem with hundreds of anchored photos, and they show fine when I open in CS5.
    My first impression is that this is ither a layer problem of some sort, or perhaps the objects have been set not to print and you have a preview mode enabled, but eh screen captures don't seem to support the latter.
    What happens if you export the file to .idml in CS4 and open that in CS5?
