Anchor Points and handles disappearing in Illustrator CC – Windows 8

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help.
This is becoming a consistently re-occurring issue for me, and it's not specific to any particular file.
The bounding box is visible, so I have a blue outline and blue "anchor points" at the end of each line, and I can even use the new CC round edges option, however I have no anchor points to do any resizing, and I can't hover the black arrow tool just outside the edges of a shape to quickly rotate it.
It's not a case of going into preferences/view and turning on bounding box and/or show anchor points (Ctrl+Shft+B) nor (Ctrl+H). This seems to happen to me randomly but consistently, on new or existing files, and there's no rhyme or reason to when it happens. I could have been working on the file for 2 hours or 2 minutes and it can just kick in.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Probably worth noting that I also have CC on my Mac and I tend not to see the issue, it happens occasionally but nowhere near to the same extent as the Windows version, and I've experienced the issue occasional on older versions of Illustrator also, so it just seems like an inherent issue on these versions rather than the inhibiting barrier it's proving to be on CC Windows.

  • Anchor Points and Intersect Guide Lines Disappeared

Hi! I must have hit some type of command on my keyboard but now my anchor points and intersect guides have disappeared that would normally appear when I roll my mouse over the anchor point or the intersecting paths. I have hit Ctrl + H as well as went to the menu manually and my edges are showing. How do I turn back on this ability to see my anchor points and intersecting lines guide in Illustrator?
    Thanks in advance!!
Edit: I run on Adobe Illustrator CS5

Is View > Smart Guides turned on? If not, enable it.
If Smart Guides are already turned on, check if Align to Grid is enabled in the View menu and turn it off.

  • Anchor points and paths not displaying!

When I create a new shape, the anchor points and path are not visible. How do I make them appear? I don't see them at all in any shape I create....

    Hi JJMAck,
The problem isn't with selecting a path or anchor point, but rather seeing them at all. I watched a tutorial video, where the user chose the rectangle shape tool, created a rectangle, and the path and anchor points of the rectangle were visible. When I create a rectangle, no path or anchor points are displayed.....
    Any thoughts on that situation?
    Thanks!!

What you saw in the tutorials is how newer versions of Photoshop work older Photoshop versions do not display the points and the way shape layer are depicted in the layers palette is also different.
What version of Photoshop are you using?
While CS6 is close to CC it does not show the points and there may even be differences between the PC and Mac versions of Photoshop.

  • Too many anchor points, and simplify messes up the pic

    I'm making a picture and I have a problem - I need a maximum of 2000 anchor points, and I have about 11k.
Seems like I have a lot of unnecessary points, but when I try to simplify the picture gets all messed up. Any other way to fix this?
Here's part of the picture, you can clearly see that a lot of the points don't have to be there..

It looks as if you have a lot of areas with the same color inside itself...
And/or different colors hidden by overlaps.--which is exactly why I said the Merge Pathfinder will probably reduce the number of anchors. There is no need to tediously select objects of same color. Merge unions adjacent areas of same color and removes hidden areas of overlap in one move.

  • Path with anchor points and bezier control handles

I have a text, not converted to outline. Live text.
    I am using IllCS4.
That is cool thing about hovering the cursor above the text and see hidden path and anchor points only when you hovering exactly above them. But I want them be visible permannently, while I am applying some envelop distort  changes. Then I want to turn visibility off. And how to get permanent visiblity of bazier control handles at  the same time?
    I am lost.
    Tx

    Yes, thank you,
that is great thing, but when I use it, I see outlines (like a wireframe) of image  only.
Is there any way to see still image as it is and switch on visibility of object' path with all control points?

  • Show not selected anchor points (and connect)

    Hello.
Every now and then I have the problem in Illustrator that I want to connect two anchor points with the pen tool. The two anchor points belong to different objects. Is there any way to always show all anchor points. Today I have to select one of the object to see the first anchor point I want to connect. And then hovering the point over the plaece where I presume the second anchor point is located until the mouse icon indicates that I have the pointer at an anchor point.
A second question: Is there any way to connect more than two “lines” to an anchor point? I.e intersect and connect an anchorpoint in the middle of a line with a third anchor point.

    Almost.
My thought was that if I could see all anchorpoints of all objects, without selecting the objects. Ie. se all "white" anchor points,  when I select them they will become "filled/blue".

  • Anchor points and scrolling trouble in Muse

I set anchor points on a long page in Muse. I want to be able to click on a menu item and scroll down to that section in the layout. For some reason when I click on my menu the scroll effect doesn't work very well. It seems to stop early. Why is that? n It used to work fine?

It seems to stop as I go down the page. My documents this morning show no or little movement

  • Expression query concerning anchor point and masks

    Hi everyone,
As im new to expressions Id like to know if there is one that could place the anchor point to the middle of the masks left and right points.
So essentially it would be something like:
Mask right value, subtract mask left value, divide result by 2, and add result to mask left value. and this end result would be the anchors x value.
Plus then the position values would need to be updated as well
This image shows a picture divided into 10 parts by use of the mask, Each section has its own layer to manipulate individually
I would like the anchor points to move from the middle of the original image to the middle of each of the masked sections. see 2 images below.
(only 3 sections visible in this image) Left most section is current layer.
Anchor point sits in middle now, id like it to sit in middle of left section, where the arrow points. The section would need to stay where it is now so position values would need to be updated as well.
Another example this one is the right most, in all there are 10 mask sections.
Each section has its own layer to manipulate individually.
Ultimately id like to make an effect of rotating the sections on their Y axis similar to those billboards with multiple ads on them. see link below

    Hope this is clear enough?
    Thanks guys.

You can easily move the anchor points with the Anchor Point tool. It's right there in the toolbar. Just grab the anchor point with that tool and drag. Changing anchor point values in the timeline window causes the layer to move, but dragging with the tool (also called the pan behind tool) doesn't.
Card wipe or even card dance is a good alternative that requires less work but it offers less control in AE's 3D world.

  • Why do crop box and handles disappear after carrying out a crop?

Following a crop (with 'delete cropped pixels' box unchecked) I have to go out of the crop command and back into crop to see the crop bounding box and handles - this was not necessary on previous versions of Ps.  Is there a setting I can change to avoid this problem ?  I am using Ps CC 2014 on a Macbook Pro (the same problem occurred on Ps CC)

All you have to do is click on the edge of the image to bring back the handles, or click-drag to make a new crop.  You don't have to quite the tool.

  • Why do my anchor points and triggers jump to anchors they are not assigned to?

    Hello again,
I am still tinkering away on my school project Adobe Muse page, but there are just some glitches I can't get under control. The biggest issue is by far the problem with the anchors. I followed a tutorial to the T creating them, but the triggers to not jump reliable to the area they are suppost to go to.
I have a long horizontal image scroll on which I placed "bubbles" (my links) to visit the sub-pages. Then the user is supposed to be able to return to the same place in the image that he has left from, but this is where things go wrong. The further down the image (probably also depending on how many sub-pages you have visited) the jumps seem to go more erratic.
Since explaing this is really tricky without an example I already uploaded a copy of my entire Muse page including assets to a dropbox folder. If somebody would be willing to take a look and tell my what it is that I am doing wrong.
In addition, I have some fixed objects in some of the sub-pages but they jump from where I plced them on the page to about 40+ pix to the right in the preview/published view. Why??
    Still incredible confused...

    Judy,
    Give this a try:
*+Your signatures are stored as webarchive files in your <home>/Library/Mail/Signatures folder. There should be a webarchive file for each signature and they in turn are referenced in a SignaturesByAccount.plist file within the same folder. It is possible that the plist file has become corrupted and/or the signature files are corrupted. Move the SignaturesByAccount.plist file to the desktop and then re-create your signatures to see if that resolves the problem.+*
I found that on another post (Thanks 2point5!)
After you move the SignaturesByAccount.plist to the desktop and recreate the signatures, make sure you then go ahead and trash it. A new one will be made in the Signatures folder.
So far this has worked for me.
    Good Luck

  • Is there a way to change the color of the Bezier Curves and points to a different color other than black  I find it perplexing while setting points and curves working on a photo that needs to be separated from it's background for placement on transparent

Is there a way to change the color of the Bezier Curves and points to a different color other than black  I find it perplexing while setting points and curves working on a photo that needs to be separated from it's background for placement on transparent backgrounds. Any thoughts?

Yes. Well, sort of: instead of a "path", set the pen tool to "shape" in the tool properties. Then set the fill colour to transparent, and the stroke colour to the colour you want. You can also set the stroke width.
Not perfect, but at least you can see the path more clearly - the anchor points and handles still remain the default colour. Open the path panel, and right-mouse click the path shape to create a selection based on that shape. The Paths panel menu also allows you to create work paths based on that shape.
Unfortunately when you try to move the handles the black thin outline appears again until you release the mouse button.
This is one of several things that works better in Photoline: in Photoline, once the path is set to a specific colour, editing the path uses the actual colour and stroke width. which is extremely handy for creating path based selection with awkward background colours and/or a high resolution screen. In Photoline the handles and bezier points are also much, much larger, which makes it rather simpler to work with as well - especially on a higher resolution screen. And when selected the handles and points are a clear red with a black outline - again easier to spot and identify. I just works better, in my opinion.

  • Tween anchor points

I haven't used shape tweens in a very long time. It seems like it's working differently than it used to.
I'm expecting it to maintain the number of points, maintain the point order, and tween each anchor point and handle position separately. Anime Studio works exactly the way I expected it to work (and believe it used to work). With CS5, I have to add shape hints just to sort-of maintain the point order. And if I ever add a keyframe between 2 existing keyframes, there's a gazillion new points to deal with. Is there any workaround?

This info helped me, when I got weird results:
Shape hints work best if you place them in counterclockwise order beginning at the top left corner of the shape.

  • Improve the way you select anchor points - more tips?

Ok, now have found some methods to make selection of points esier:
In "Preferences" and "Selection&Anchordisplay" I have enhanced the tolerance and checked the "Snap to Point" (I also change the value). Also under "Anchor point and Handle Display" I have selected the bottom choices. Frankly, It's almost no difference, but you get those anchor points little, little bigger.
From my time in Macromedia FreeHand I remember it was possible to make the anchor points bigger with values. Anyone know if this is possible in AI (edit pref-file or something).
    Regards / Jimmy

    Jimmy,
It has been up from time to time over the years, and apart from chnaging resolution and using Magnifier (Windows) or similar there there seems to be little to do about it.

  • Disappearing paths and anchor points

Using a MacBook Pro with Adobe CS3, the anchor points and drawing lines have disappeared from both the outline and art views.  The lines are still visible, but none of the anchor points can be seen to edit the lines.  How do I make them visible again?

Thank you that worked.  I am not sure how this happened as it is a complex geologic map that I was not looking forward to redoing for publication.

  • Convert Anchor Point Tool Won't Remove Handles

I have handles on a point in Illustrator CC 2014. I am trying to click on the point with the "convert anchor tool" to remove the handles, but it is not working. I can manipulate the handles with the tool and move the points, but it will not delete the handles like normal.

    Brad,
There may be something you are unaware of (Anchor Point(s) on top of Anchor Point(s) or something).
If you deselect (click an empty spot or another object), then click the Anchor Point with the Direct Selection Tool, does the Anchor Point show normally with two Handles?
If it does, can you ClickDrag each Handle into the Anchor Point and convert it that way?
