Anchored objects (haven't used them often enough!)

I haven't really used anchored objects a lot, but I want to start! I'm trying to make an achored frame to hold a photo since I will be adding lots of photos into columns and need to keep them aligned with the person's name. I've set the frame with a Custom position, X Relative to Column Edge and Y Relative to Line (Cap Height). Then I added text wrap. My problem is that the very first line refuses to wrap. What am I missing? I'm hoping to make an object style where I can insert these photo placeholders throughout. I imagine I've missed something obvious, but I just don't know what it is. That actually works much better (the inline option). :-) I think I originally started to try that but had gotten an error message about the negative values being too high (I was trying to enter the offset numerically). So thought that custom was the way to go. But this actually seems to be a much better way of handling it for this project. That'll leave me with only an occasional place where I manually have to stick in a box (there's a couple of paragraphs where 2 speakers are mentioned together so I need the boxes one on top of the other). So thanks that's great!!!
I'm trying to figure out the best application for each type of anchored graphic. I guess any time I want to wrap something at the beginning of a paragraph, I should aim for inline. And use custom for things like icons that stick to the column rules or something. Just thinking about how best to use these... I'm aiming for getting my layouts as easily editable as possible.

How can I apply a timestretch to different null objects and then use them to parent layers?

I am using several hundred stills which are held on screen for different lengths of time. Is there a way to create null objects with various timestretch values and then use them to parent my stills?
I'm trying to find an equivalent to the 'paste attributes' function in Final Cut Pro.

If you have movement on the stills you can set up expressions based on in and out points. That's what I do. I then drop all my stills in order into a comp then set the out point for all stills for the longest duration. I then set group colors for layers that I want to make different lengths, do a group select and then adjust the out points for those layers. When I'm done I sequence the layers using the keyframe assistant.
The other way I work is to use an audio track with markers for timing. I have an expression that reads the markers and sets opacity for the layers based on pairs of markers. The motion is also controlled by expressions. That's an even faster way to set up an animated slide show.
The last way I work is just to set in an out points for all layers, sequence the layers, use expressions to do the motion and then use time remapping on a pre-comp to adjust the timing of the slide show. All methods are quick and easy.
Here's a fly in bounce and then drop out fxx preset that will give you an idea of how expressions based on in and out point work for slide shows. You just drag the layer to it's resting position, apply the animatiokn preset and the layer flys in, bounces, and then drops out the bottom of the comp. Works in 2D and 3D space.

Also, make sure that it is uninstalled from your machine, Windows: Control panel>> Uninstall a Program
Mac: Go>> Applications>> Utilities>> Adobe Installers>> Uninstall CS5.

Grouping Anchored Objects

I have an anchored graphic image (using Object, Anchored Object, Insert) and need to add a text box under the graphic and a rectangle frame with a stroke on top of the image to highlight a portion of the image.
What I would love to do is anchor the graphic image and then group the text box and graphic rectangle to the anchored graphic and have all move together. NO LUCK, I guess you cannot select and group multiple objects if one of them is an anchored object.
The work arounds are
1) Anchor EACH of the three objects which works fine but takes a long time.
2) Group the objects and paste them "inline"
3) Group the objects and manually move them when your text moves.
Is there any way to group, attach or link objects to an anchored object so all of them move with the anchored object?
Have InDesign 3 and 2 (same results)

Right clicking on the anchored graphic and using the "Paste Into" option to paste the three grouped objects worked wonderfully. Thank you so much.

My anchored objects dont display after CS5 upgrade - help?

We've just upgraded to CS5 from CS3.
I publish educational books, which contain a lot of object styles and anchored objects.
I have just opend a book im working on in CS5 and have had problems with both anchored objects not displaying and object styles changing. The first is more pressing.
The problem arises where I have an anchored object inside another anchored object, and they use custom positioning.
For example. I have a pullout box that contains text and an image. The image is anchored inside the pullout box and the pullout box is anchored to the main body of text.
The images are no longer displaying. I can select their frames, and if i change the image positioning to inline the images display fine, but when it is set to custom (which they need to be) I can no longer see the image.
Is anyone able to help with this, its a major problem as i am woking with hundreds of images here.

My usual advice is that with a project this large, it's best to finish it in the same version it was started in. Even a small change in the text engine can effect things like this and there were changes from CS3 to CS4 and again to CS5, but I'm not really sure what's happening in your case.

Remove multiple anchored objects using find function?

Hello, there are hundreds of anchored objects (text boxes) I need to remove from a document; can I do this using the find/change function? I have been able to find them by choosing "object" then specifying it's custom positioned text box, but I can't see any way of deleting them all at once; all I can do is change all their properties at once.

Click Grep
type in the Find What field: ~a (thats to find the anchor object marker)
then leave change to blank
click change all
and... viola!

Where do I use These lock object FM's (Enqueue & D? and How do I use them?

I created lock object for user defined table (zconsist). The system automatically created 2 FM's (Enquiue & Dequeue).
I created a new TCode and accessing this with mulitple users to do some updates and inserts in that above table.
I used INSERT ZCONSIST statement in 5 places in my program (4 include programs).
Where do I use These FM's? and How do I use them?
I mean before inserting which FM I need to use? after immediately what fm used?.
every insert statemnt before i need to use the respective fm? so 5 places i need to call the respective FM is it right?

Lock objects are use in SAP to avoid the inconsistancy at the time of data is being insert/change into database.
SAP Provide three type of Lock objects.
Read Lock(Shared Locked)
protects read access to an object. The read lock allows other transactions read access but not write access to
the locked area of the table
Write Lock(exclusive lock)
protects write access to an object. The write lock allows other transactions neither read nor write access to
the locked area of the table.
Enhanced write lock (exclusive lock without cumulating)
works like a write lock except that the enhanced write lock also protects from further accesses from the
same transaction.
You can create a lock on a object of SAP thorugh transaction SE11 and enter any meaningful name start with EZ Example EZTEST_LOCK.
Use: you can see in almost all transaction when you are open an object in Change mode SAP could not allow to any other user to open the same object in change mode.
Example: in HR when we are enter a personal number in master data maintainance screen SAP can't allow to any other user to use same personal number for changes.
Technicaly:
When you create a lock object System automatically creat two function module.
1. ENQUEUE_<Lockobject name>. to insert the object in a queue.
2. DEQUEUE_<Lockobject name>. To remove the object is being queued through above FM.

Changing Runtime View Object Settings Before and After Using Them

The example steps given in 40.8.2 seems to contradict the latter paragraph:
Because many of the view object's instance settings are saved in the passivation state snapshot and restored on activation (as described in Section 40.5.1, "State Information Saved During Passivation"), it is not advisable to change any of these settings just after executing the view object+ if you won't be re-executing the view object again during the same block of code (and so, during the same HTTP request). Instead, change the view object instance settings the next time you need them to be different before executing the query.
Steps 5 and 6 seems to be changing the settings after executing the view object.+
Bottom line is I'm looking for best practice.

Could it be that the anchord object in question won't move because you have it set to keep within margins which is preventing the move you're requesting? I've certainly run into that.
I've also run into the situation where the object model thinks the anchored object is in one place when it is actually in another because of that same keep within margins option. In this case, a move will apparently not work because the move is invisible, it being completely outside of the margins -- although that only applies to relative moves, I think.

New technique to place multiple anchored objects in InDesign story

Hello,
For a while I have been trying to figure out how to insert multiple anchored objects into an Indesign story. As far as I can tell, you cannot copy multiple objects that have already been placed in a document (such as a multi-page pdf) into an InDesign story, but must copy and paste them one-by-one into the story. This is a problem for a project I am working on where I want to have a large number of 340x52 pt pdfs to flow throughout a document in a master text frame interspersed with text.
I have now found a solution for this issue that I thought I would share in case it would be helpful for anyone. It utilizes Automator actions for Mac OS X and Microsoft Word 2011 [2008 may work also, but I don't have a copy of that to test]; I am not good with scripting but perhaps similar solutions could be found for other systems and programs.
1. If you want to place a multipage pdf within a text frame, first it into individual files for each page (with Acrobat Pro or pdftk or something similiar).
2. Create an Automator service or program with the action "Create New Word Document". You can also use another automator action to save the document, or save it manually (to change the filename). In the finder, select the items you want, then run the service or drag them into the Automator program you have created.
3. Place the word document into your InDesign story. Your items will now be anchored objects ordered in your text frame as they were in the finder.
Please let me know if this is helpful or if anyone has suggestions for doing this process is a more efficient way. I am not sure, but it may be the case that this approach would only work on Macs, as I gather from this thread.

I might note that I am using InDesign CS 5, and importing from a document stored in docx format.

In my page structure, I got one main text frame (the content area) and two vertical text fromes on the sides of the page. There is also a small box textframe on top of the page. All these textboxes EXCEPT the main text frame are ALL "ANCHORED objects". I had to make them anchored objects, eitherwise after importing data, the boxes would jump around. (Example, the small box textframe that is on the top would get moved to the content area textframe etc). Not sure if using anchored objects is the proper way to fix this.
When I try to get the small box text frame, it does not work using the findItems (returns null) but it works fine with the getByLabel method. Why is that?
