And Another Standalone Download Issue Safari 3.2 Tiger

Hello all /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
*Sadly, yet again AND EVEN AGAIN /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png*
... Apple have ignored the polite requests to offer an alternative download facility - other than the current auto-browser setting, which is impossible if attempting using the stand-alone-download option (via a PC)
I just wish to up-date an off-line Mac /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
Could some kind soul with Mac expertise please post me a link to permit me to download the latest Mac up-dates for Safari 3.2 TIGER 10.4.11 ...
A shiny greens stars awaits ... your consideration,
Many thanks in advance for your expertise

I am looking to download safari 3.2 for Tiger (via a standalone download on a PC
but the auto-browser detection on the download keeps giving me the windows version .... when I want the Tiger version !
If I cant get access the Tiger version, I will then have to stick to FireFox instead of Safari ! Perhaps it is the will of apple

    Hello all
+*It must be the will of Apple !*+
    Alas, http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8458073#8458073
Again,I cant find a link to a download the Tiger Version of the latest update, that will allow me to use a stand-alone-download for a Mac via a PC !!If any kind soul can please once again help that would be most appreciated.
Otherwise, I shall have stick with FireFox !
    Thanks again in advance

I wonder if the browser is reporting the platform to the web site and directing us to different pages because that link definitely takes me to a page offering Tiger and Leopard versions. I hate pages that do that. A certain competitor of Apple would only let you get access to its updates if you were running a copy of the OS on your computer connecting to its site, making it impossible to update a different computer not connected to the Internet. Quo vadis Apple?

  • HT6104 Why is there no standalone download for Safari 7.1?

Tried to use this App Store to update but it is slower than slow. I had the same problem with the OS update so I used the web download software site and it was done in seconds. I don't have all day to update an app Apple, please fix it, or give us another avenue for the download.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Dual boot: Arch and another Linux (GRUB issue)

    Hi, everybody,
I've got two SATA hard drives: sda and sdb. There is a Linux on sdb, and the GRUB in it's MBR. Here's /boot/grub/menu.lst (sdb):

The Arch entry won't work: GRUB Error 13: - something wrong with the kernel image...
I tried to install the Arch's own GRUB into the sda MBR; now Arch is booting successfully from it's own GRUB - provided the sda is first in the BIOS boot order. Now I have to change the BIOS boot order depending on what system I want to boot, which is less then a satisfactory arrangement .

I'd be happy to boot into Arch from sdb; what am I to change in the /boot/grub/menu.lst (sdb)?

See this for chainloading to another MBR:
    http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual … 02fWindows
    OK right.
    PCLOS grub=MBR of sdb (hd1)
    ARCH grub=MBR of sda (hd0)
You'll want something like this in PCLOS grub:
    title Arch Linux
    unhide (hd0)
    hide (hd1)
    rootnoverify (hd0)
    chainloader +1
    makeactive
If that doesn't work then its just a case of swapping the ones and zeroes around (i hope).
Then something like this in arch grub (as long as the kernel is in the fifth partition of the first hard drive). Typo first time round, (hd1,4) should be (hd0,4):
    # (0) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,4)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda5 ro
    initrd /boot/kernel26.img
    # (1) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux Fallback
    root (hd0,4)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda5 ro
    initrd /boot/kernel26-fallback.img

  • A new iOS update and another new battery issue on the iPhone 5

Has anyone else contacted Apple support and been given te same old "solutions" on the battery issues?
    1) Turn off location services.
    2) Turn off background app updates.
    3) Restore as a new device.
These solutions turn a smartphone into a dumb-phone. I love my iPhone but with every new iOS update, the battery becomes incredibly unreliable.  Has anyone found a solution that does not kill the iPhone's functionality?

You can try a soft-reset of pressing and holding both the home and sleep buttons for 10 to 15 seconds so that it reboots, but you are likely to get the same screen. If it does then it will need to be connected to a computer's iTunes so that it can be reset back to factory defaults - do you have a friend with a computer with iTunes installed on it, or is there an Apple store nearby that you could try going to (if there is then preferably make a Genius Bar appointment at it, or don't go at a busy time) ?
Has she been backing up to the cloud ? If she has then she should be able to restore to that. If not then what she can redownload for free from the stores will show in the Purchased tabs in the store apps.

    Marc-
The Safari message is probably telling the truth.  Is the problem repeatable at several websites, or is it only with a particular one?  If all websites, you may have trouble with your internet connection downloading large amounts of data.  Mail messages are relatively small unless there are attachments or embedded images.

  • I just bought an ibook pro and want to download a browser like google chrome which I am familiar with. Safari just seems to be a lot of icons for shopping and I would like to disable it and put something more functional in its place. How do I ?

I thought I just posted this question but maybe not. I'm going from a PC to an iBook and am trying to customize it. Can I add a browser like google chrome or even foxfire and disable safari? Safari jst seems to be an app store. Thnaks

It sound like you did something wrong. Try another download and install.
    Download of Chrome
    https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95346?hl=en
    Direction to install
    Download the installer file
Open the file called "Google Chrome.dmg" after it's downloaded.
In the window that opens, drag the Chrome icon to the Application folder. This installs Chrome for all user accounts on your computer. Your home page settings and browser history will automatically be imported from your default browser. If you don't have administrative rights, drag the icon to a location on your computer where you do have rights, such as your Desktop. Chrome will only be installed for your user account.
The first time you open the browser, the Finder will ask you to confirm that you want to open the application downloaded from the Internet. Click Open to continue.
You'll see a message letting you know that you can search with Google directly from the address bar (also known as the omnibox). If you'd like to change yourdefault search engine, click Change.
Unmount the Google Chrome disk image on your Desktop by dragging it to the Eject icon in the Dock. (Make sure you're dragging the disk image and not the Google Chrome application icon.)

Yes, but there at least you are talking to people who all use the app, while in this forum (which is for hardware and not software in any case, so already off the mark, since the problem has nothing to do with hardware), it is probably a minority.

  • Safari 3.1.2 and OS10.5.2 issue.

I've got Safari 3.0.4 but want to install Safari 3.1.2 .When I attempt to install it I'm informed that I can't because it needs at least OS10.5.2, but I've got that version of Leopard already installed. What's up with that?
I'm staying with 10.5.2 for now since it's working just fine for me...no issues. And some folks have been having issues with 10.5.5.
Does Safari 3.1.2 actually need a version of Leopard greater than 10.5.2?

I've seen posts on this problem (for instance [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1756387&tstart=30]).
[One solution|http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=522925], though it may not be one for you if you want to keep 10.5.2, is to run the 10.5.4 combo update. I'm currently on 10.5.4 and I'm very pleased with it. Tried 10.5.5 but decided to go back.
Safari 3.1.1 however is compatible with 10.5.2 and can be [downloaded separately|http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/safari311.html].

  • I just downloaded the Safari update to 5.1 and on my Xfinity homepage, nothing I click on will open up. What is wrong?

After downloading the Safari update, and after MacBook had to do a restart, I went to my Bookmarks, clicked on XFinity to get my email. The home page opened, but nothing I have clicked on will open except the weather. I tried opening Email, TV, Support, Help, Log In, even the news stories and none of the links open. How do I go back to my previous Safari version so I can get my email?

Its always a good idea to have a few browsers to use.  About 1/2 year ago Safari just stopped working intermittently and it took a lot of help from some of the experienced users on this forum to help me figure out why it was behaving the way it was.  Without Firefox I would have been in trouble (because when Safari stopped working so did Chrome).  Since then I have also downloaded Opera though I haven't used it.   And I have also discovered that different websites work better with one browswer than with another.  Anyway, I'm glad you figured out a way to get your emails.

Before your response arrived I shut down Safari, loaded Firefox, went directly to the Adobe download page and attempted a download. The download started correctly and then switched over to the Creative Cloud downloader and I thought, "Here we go again". However, the process completed and installed the Acrobat Pro software as advertised. This might be a work around others can use that are having issues with Safari.

  • Safari and Firefox crashing - Security issue?

I was running Safari 2.X.X (I think it was 2.0.4 and Tiger 10.4.X) when Safari started crashing. The crashing was every 10 minutes or so, but eventually Safari crashed almost instantly when opening, even if all I did was open Safari from my Dock.
I tried using Firefox, but that too, started crashing almost instantly, after being opened.
I restarted my PowerBook (G4, 1.33) and the problem still remained. I then updated OS X Tiger to 10.4.11 which also upgraded Safari to 3.0.4. After the update, Safari crashed once or twice, but then has been stable for "a while now." However, Firefox still crashes like mad (Edit: Firefox has now remained open and not crashed for a few minutes now).
Is there anyway a virus/spyware/malware caused this crashing? A search of the Internet seemed to indicate things like corrupt preferences or issues with Input Managers. However, I'd like a little more reassuring, as well as suggestions to why Safari now seems to work ok, but Firefox still crashes.
    Any suggestions or comments?

I can't speak for Firefox (do you have the latest version?) but
If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 uses Safari 3.0.4 which is not a beta. If Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard widgets etc also rely.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-on that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.0.4.
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2008-001.
As Leopard also uses Safari 3.0.4, much of the above may well also apply to Leopard, but is not guaranteed.

I found this discussion about three or four months ago. I was having the same problem with Safari not opening, along with my other login items.
The tip posted by Linc on Oct 3, 2011 9:22 AM, resolved the issue.
    Thanks Linc!
HOWEVER... Today, all of the sudden... Out of out of the blue... I have the same problem, again!?
I tried removing, then re-adding, the URL file from the log in items, automatic open list.
    It did not work?
Does anybody have any ideas/solutions regarding this issue? This is becoming VERY aggravating!
