Hi jakon
You are running a Chinese firmware(S660_S026_140228).
Chinese firmwares are only in Chinese and English, don't have Google services like the Play store(not allowed in China) and are full of Chinese apps.
To cover a wider international market some sellers modify the original official firmware adding Google services and multilingual support. That's why you can't update....
Can you tell me where(what seller) exactly did you buy it from?
Did someone help you today? Press the star on the left to thank them with a Kudo!

  • UK Sony Xperia Z1 Kit Kat updates for unbranded phones?

I have a UK generic unbranded Sony Xperia Z1 (i.e. I purchased my phone outright, not through a carrier) and am experiencing distorted audio and dropouts with Bluetooth when connected and playing music to some devices.  My phone is running Android 4.3 Sony update 14.2.A.0.290.
I read Sony have fixed the Bluetooth dropout and distortion issue with a later firmware 14.2.A.1.136 but Sony PC Companion and Sony Update Service will not upgrade my device beyond firmware release .290 (I've completed a 'repair' using both PC Companion and Sony Update Service and the phone is still on 14.2.A.0.290).
Has Sony not produced a later firmware update for the non branded UK phones since 14.2.A.0.290?  I see the branded phones have got Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat in the form of update14.3.A.0.681, how long will it be before this version is available to UK users who bought their phones outright?

    Hi
I'm currently having a conversation with Sony Xperia Contact Center (!) in regards to the Bluetooth issue with the .290 update, and why Bluetooth worked fine with the previous Android 4.2 update.  I've pointed out to them that techincally the phone is not fit for purpose (legal term) in its current state.  Awaiting their response

  • Is There Any Way Under Heaven to Prevent Kit-Kat from Installing?

I've already had my phone screwed up enough.  Tonight the stupid Kit-Kat downloaded to my Galaxy S3, and I'm getting those annoying pop-up dialogues asking me when I want to start the install.
I don't WANT to start the install.  After reading so many problems here, especially the battery charging issues, I don't understand why this update continues to be pushed on those that have not already been stuck with it.
Please!  ANYONE!  Tell me how to get this out of my phone.  I am looking for new phone, though I shouldn't have to, but it's going to be a couple of months before I can do it.  I'm only one year into a 2-year contract so I'm having to pay out of pocket for the new one.  I've already spent a ton of money on portable power packs, extra batteries, extra chargers.
These things are money-pits, plain and simple.  And making people tear their hair out.  For Pete's sake, leave us alone!

    bubblemaker  Elector
    Try this...
Application Manager-All-Google Services Framework-Uncheck Show Notifications
That at least stopped the annoying popups that just WAIT for you to get through your lock-screen, then jump in before you can hit another app, forcing the install.
I don't know if this will hold it off forever, but my daughter has been able to avoid the 4.3 update since last December.
The Android icon will appear in your notification bar, but it will remain quiet.
EDITED TO UPDATE:  Well, no, it isn't working after all.  All is lost and our phones are doomed.

  • Is there a way to revert back to Kit Kat on the G3?

The Android L (5.0) update has made my phone fairly unreliable.  Is there anyway to roll the phone back to Kit Kat until some of these issues are worked out with lollipop on this device?

You cannot revert back to KitKat without flashing your phone [read: Void Your Warranty!].  The latest scuttlebutt is that LG is aware and working on a 5.1 update.  So until then we are stuck.  I phones have had their issues as well, i.e. Apple finally acknowledging WiDie (phone loses WiFi connection for no reason).  We just take the good with the bad at this point.  You'd think in the 21st century this sh*t would be a thing of the past, but you'd be wrong....

  • Droid DNA battery life after kit kat update cut in half

Since the kit kat update,  my battery has gone from lasting about 13 hours to barely 7. If I am actually using the phone heavily it's less.  If I look under usage, Android system is shown at 76% with Facebook being next highest at 6%. I haven't installed any new apps since well before the update.
I'm also experiencing a very long delay in opening sms messages- about 45 seconds, with considerable delay in sending as well.
Any help here? I use my phone almost exclusively for texting and Facebook messaging, as well as taking pictures/using Instagram.

In response to the list of items in the first link, I've verified the device is undamaged, and I am using the replacement charger sold to me in the Verizon store. My original charger cord came apart within a few weeks of getting the phone.
I've done a soft reset several times in the last few weeks. Doesn't seem to make a difference. Software is up to date which is where my issue seems to be coming form.
I'm still using the phone in the same manner as I was before the problem occurred. I've removed or disabled any apps I do not use only a few weeks ago. I have put the phone into safe mode as of this morning, so will see if the battery drains as quickly with with almost everything disabled.
The phone is generally connected to wifi within our home and always has a strong signal. Display settings are set for the display to sleep after 30 seconds, I am not using live wallpaper, and my brightness is set at about 75%.
    GPS is turned off.
I'm not sure what my syncing settings are set at, but they have not changed save for one item that was altered when the latest update rolled out. After the update, Google offered me an auto-back-up service for my photos and videos (uploading them to my Google account) which I turned on. I've turned this off for now. Otherwise my settings for push/pull are unchanged.
I don't stream audio or video from my phone with any frequency (less then once a week). I have not yet done a device reset. Hoping to hold off on that if possible.
Even in safe mode, there is still an extremely long delay in accessing my SMS messages. That has not changed. I will update more at the end of the evening or tomorrow.

  • Kit Kat 4.4 OS Home Screen default?

I have a Droid Maxx with OS 4.4 Kit Kat. I'm trying to get it to default to a home screen or desktop. When the phone is initially turned on, or activated from sleep it will go to the home screen. Which will display 3 widgets and several app icons. However when you go to anything, perhaps email for instance, and then close out. It will then go to a blank screen. By that I mean, desktop will just show wallpaper, and nothing else. Then you have to swipe sideways to get to the desktop home screen.
I'm trying to get it just to return to desktop without having to swipe back and forth. No luck so far, a friend and I spent an hour, and then searched the internet. So if anyone can offer any help it would be appreciated. Even if your're not 100% sure make a post, I'm stumped.
Also the this is not a complaint, the Droid Maxx is amazing, I'm just trying to learn the device, which can be fustrating  Thanks

I will begin by saying I don't have the Droid Maxx, but I am familiar with Android devices, and the Android OS from ICS through to Kit Kat... so ....
Where does the phone go when you tap the Home button?  A blank screen, or what you consider your "Home" screen?  If it goes to the blank, then you haven't put the icons on the HOME screen, but on an alternate screen.  I remove all the blank screens, since I only use a couple of screens for my go to apps.  Press and hold a a spot on the home or a blank screen; your true home screen will give you thumbnails of all screens with a home icon on one of them - THATs your home screen.  Drag the apps and widgets you want to that screen...
What you see when the phone is turned on or activated from sleep is your LOCK screen - different than the HOME screen.

  • The Kit Kat Impressions

So after updating my WiFi model in the kit kat version i'd like to express my first impressions (After 2 weeks of heavy usage of the newest version of android)
-Super fast menus (only the settings menu seems to be a bit laggy)
-almost 30% faster I believe in Chrome and most of the apks I had already installed
-Unfortunately the flickering screen problem (mainly in apps such as chrome, or Google Tranlate) is still here.
    -the landscape button finaly works!
There was indeed a drain problem which I totally fixed by turning off the Google locations.
-Another problem I also noticed was the fact that almost all the videos I tested in Hardware mode with the default video player or by using the Mx player seem to "stop" momentarily every two minutes making the playback a bit painful... The only solution is to enable the S/W mode in the Mx Player
    That's my first thoughts.

So you buy a very expensive  tablet with extra hardware like a sd-card,  and don't mention anything about that in the review of this  crippling update?
What if Google decided that WIFI will be redundant?
Do you not care about that either?
If someone is so positive about this upgrade you have to be very lucky,  or work for Google.
And Sony is to blame too.
They did nothing to prevent this all,  but still selling tablets with a sd-reader.
If we want this kind of security solutions we had bought an iPad.!
Just as expensive,  but with better hardware!
So,  Sony do something about it,  or stop selling this kind of expensive tablets!
Google is not God! Their just a bunch of creedy...........
But hardly anybody seems to protest here!

  • When are we getting Kit Kat????

Google Camera gets an overhaul, released into Play Store for KitKat devices | Android Central
There's a new camera update, but only for phone updated to Kit Kat. So the good folks at Verizon that have the Note 3 are not able to be on the cutting edge of innovation. Why is that???

The above comment tells you all you need to know, regarding what we (the Galaxy Note 3 people) must endure. ...lol.  Jonathan, assuming you're a real person, it would have been better not to respond at all.  But thank you, yes, I am excited about receiving updates that make certain functions of my phone run better. I also get excited when the heater turns on in my car, when it's cold outside.

  • Kit Kat Upgrade Failed

I tried installing Kit Kat from the Software Update and it downloads with no problem.  However, as it's installing, the little Android guy falls over and I see the word, "error".  Then the phone reboots and I get a window that says:
    Software update unsuccessful
Sorry, there was a problem updating your SAMSUNG SCH-I605.  No changes were made.
Any ideas and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Ron

Thanks for the additional information Ron! Sounds like a system file might be corrupted and is interfering with the update. Do a hard reset as per this link http://vz.to/1i5WaSo Make sure to disable Automatic Restore at step number 5. Backup your pictures and contacts to the Verizon Cloud http://vz.to/14QbP0I before doing hard reset.

  • GS4 Can't send SMS after 4.4.2 Kit Kat update

Just as the title states, updated to kit kat last night and now I cant send SMS, only receive. All other functionality (4g wifi etc) works
    Galaxy S4

I don't know why so many people are complaining about the Kit Kat update for their GS4.  Folks you have to learn to adjust to new things.  I know its frustrating when your $600 phone that worked perfectly well before but now it is no longer able to make or get calls bothers you, but Android, Samsung, and Verizon know what they are doing.  Right??? They wouldn't release a buggy update that would drastically  change the way you can use your phone without warning you if it wasn't for your good? Right???  You just have to relax and evolve.  Things are changing.  Smart phones making and receiving calls and text messages, and connecting to the internet...that is so last week.  (you know before we upgraded to Kit Kat) .  Now you just need to think positive about all the things your phone can still do.   You may not be able to get a signal to dial out and make and receive calls.  Me neither. But i can still get the voice mails that my boss, my son's school,  and my mom's doctor leave for me.  This Kit Kat has completely changed how I can use my phone. I'm going to remain positive, because I do not want to go back to jail.     I remember 2 weeks ago when I could use my phone to make calls, send and receive text messages, and i used to be able to get calls too. People from all over would call me. It was nice.  Those were the good old days.  But Kit Kat has changed all of that now.  Its a new world and we have to learn to adjust and move on.   Now thanks to Kit Kat my Galaxy S4 is my main remote control for my tv. The IR still works.   I mean I wouldn't have normally spent $600 on a tv remote, but what can you do. Its Android.  They know what's best.

  • So many problems and Kit Kat 4.4.2 is to blame!

Since the update to Kit Kat 4.4.2 my LG G2, along with so many other Android users, has been having problems. My biggest complaint is "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped". The stock app won't even open unless I make Hangouts my default. I've deleted all threads, cleared cache, disabled/ tried Hangouts, and still no luck. I hate Hangouts and really want my stock app working again!
Also my battery over heats often (charging or while using) plus it drains fast, alarm randomly will not go off, screen freezes from time to time, keyboard will hang up or double my text, and I will lose 4G LTE without even moving the phone.
As for troubleshooting I have a background in tech support for phones. Here's what I have done and still no luck:
    1. Restarted phone.
    2. Disabled all stock apps I am not using plus cleared data/cache.
    3. Uninstalled all downloaded apps from Play Store.
    4. Restarted phone again.
    5. Made Hangouts default SMS.
    6. Data stays off unless I need it.
    7. Closed all running apps from Task Manager.
    8. Still no luck!
    9. Dimmed brightness to 40%.
    10. Turned off Location.
    11. Activated Battery Saver.
    14. Backed up everything.
    15. Factory Restore with out using Google.
    12. Restarted phone.
    13. Still no luck!
    16. Checked for System Updates on Verizon and LG websites.
    Still no luck!
No one wants to take the blame for this HUGE problem that is reaping havoc on ALL Android users. I didn't buy a $600 phone less than a year ago just to use it as a paper weight! WE need a fix or an update ASAP!!!!!!

The place to call is LG who updated your device with the Google Inc. Operating System.
    Verizon is not the blame.
    Good Luck

  • When is Kit Kat coming for S4

I would like to know when the new software for the S4 will be being released. Think it is kind of crappy that we have the newest phone and still not able to update to newest software.

Don't worry... in true Verizon fashion we will be dead last to get the update.
Verizon will fiddle with the update (and add as much crapware &  bloatware as they can) until the other major carriers push out the update.  Once there backs are against the wall, they will release it.
What really surprised me is that Sprint got out the gate first and supposedly US Cellular is right behind them.  As soon as I read Sprint went first I started looking for people complaining of update issues after Kit Kat.  So far everything has been quiet.
This tells me the update must be pretty solid and Verizon should have no problem pushing it out right now as we share similar cellular technology with Sprint phones.
But as I said... we will be dead last.
As someone up the chain asked, I googled Android 4.4 problems.  From what I read, it seemed that a lot of issues were nuisance things that Google handled.  The only major thing I read about was Samsungs meddling that broke the SView access to third party accessories.
