Android 5.0 Lollipop FAQ

Android 5.0 Lollipop FAQ
Hi all forum users!
I have put together an list of questions with answers that we often see in regards to the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
This FAQ will be updated whenever its needed.
Please check this topic first, your question may be listed and already have an answer.
Why am I not able to update to Android 5.0 Lollipop?
The Android 5.0 Lollipop just as many other of our software updates rolls out gradually over regions, networks and time. Therefore it is not possible for us to tell you exactly when it will arrive for your specific device but stay up-to-date with our product blog for the latest information about software roll out and devices.
You will receive a notification in your Xperia device when the Android 5.0 update is available for you.
If the Android 5.0 Lollipop update fails this can be due to server overload so I kindly ask you to just try again later. This happens from time to time whenever we release a new software update.
Why can’t I see any lock screen notification?
When going through the setup wizard of Android 5.0 you will be prompted with a setting for lock screen notifications. If you miss this you can configure it later via Settings > Sound & notification > When device is locked > Show all notification content
NOTE: If you have configured any Exchange Active sync account with the Android native client it may run policies which restrict the feature of having lock screen notifications.
I’m not able to use ”Swipe” or “None” as screen lock
If you previously had a screen lock such as PIN or pattern password set to your device before the Android 5.0 Lollipop update you may experience problems changing the screen lock back to Swipe or None.
To fix this simply go to Settings > Security > Clear credentials.
This won’t delete any personal data such as contacts, calendar messages etc.
Where did Bluetooth and Face-unlock go?
The lock features Face-unlock and Bluetooth unlock has now been moved into the menu called Smart Lock. In order to activate Smart Lock you will need to first set a secure screen lock such as PIN or pattern password. In order to activate Smart Lock you will need to first set a secure screen lock such as PIN or pattern password. You can do this and find Smart Lock via Settings > Security.
Where is Location based Wi-Fi?
I our Android 5.0 Lollipop update the developers have worked hard on improving the power management, including Wi-Fi scanning. So there was no longer any reason for keeping Location based Wi-Fi since Android 5.0 has such improvements made to the Wi-Fi scanning.
Where is the Update Center application?
In the Android 5.0 Lollipop update the Update Center application has now been replaced with the What’s New app. What’s new will notifiy you about all our media application updates and help you download them to you device.
System updates will now be managed via the native menu found, Settings > About phone > Software update.
My messages are gone after the Android 5.0 update?
After you update to Android 5.0 the system will need some time to index all your messages and depending on how many you have this process can take up to 30 min. So no worries, they are still with you.
Various applications crash after the Android 5.0 update?
After you’ve installed the Android 5.0 update you may experience that some of your downloaded applications may crash suddenly or not work at all. The reason for this that you may be running an old installation of the application itself and you may need to reinstall the application or contact the application developer to check for Lollipop compatibility.
How do I clear several notifications at the same time?
In Android 5.0 the notification panel has two steps. To be able to clear all your notifications with just one press you will need to access the second layer of the notification panel. You can do this by swiping the status bar down twice or use two fingers when swiping the status bar down.
Where did all Chrome tabs go?
In the latest version of Google Chrome all tabs are by default merged with recent apps.  If you want the old school way of switching between tabs just open Chrome > Press the three vertical dots > Settings > Merge tabs and apps.
How do I make my Xperia device visible for Bluetooth networks?
In Android 5.0 some changes has been made to Bluetooth visibility. All you need to do is go to Settings > Bluetooth > And enable Bluetooth.
As long as you have Bluetooth enabled and stand in this menu your device will be visible. When you leave this window your device will not be visible any more.
Some fields turn turquoise from time to time?
The reason for this is because some applications and themes are not yet fully optimized for Android 5.0 and therefore the system will display a fall back color, which in this case is the native turquoise Android Lollipop color.

I'm beginning to like Android 5.0 features, but it can be a little intimidating at first. Just take a few minutes (or days for some people) and  security is not really a big issue.

  • The wait is over: Android 5.0 Lollipop will begin public rollout today

By tech2 News Staff /  04 Nov 2014 , 14:07For those of you who had been eagerly awaiting Android’s latest OS release, the Android Official Blog has put out a post saying that Android 5.0 Lollipop has started rolling out today. Google has confirmed that Android 5.0 Lollipop would be coming to all the Nexus devices – Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and tablets Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013 editi0ns) and Nexus 10. The Nexus 9 which has launched internationally comes baked in with Lollipop and so will the Google Nexus 6 when it comes out.Speaking on the importance of Material Design, the blog goes on to say, “A number of apps that you know and love have been working hard to build material design into their framework. It is important that every app be able to take on its own unique personality and experience while fitting in the larger system.” We have just seen the rollout of the new Gmail 5.0 app along with the Calender app, both of which come with Material Design. We are sure more Google apps will get the Material Design treatment soon.Motorola has confirmed the update to a majority of its phones available in the market, including the Moto X (1st Gen. & 2nd Gen.), Moto G (1st Gen. & 2nd Gen.), Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini. The latest update is that the Moto E, Moto G and Moto X devices would be getting the Lollipop updates within a month’s time.Apart from that Sony’s Z-series smartphones and tablets will be receiving the update as well. “We’ll be making Sony Mobile’s Android L upgrade available for the entire premium Z series: including Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.” Sony announced on its website.Similarly, HTC confirmed that it will be rolling out the Android L update within 90 days of receiving the final software from Google. However, it has only announced the update for its HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 devices as of now. Other select HTC devices will receive the update later on.For those of you who already own Nexus devices and can’t wait for the Lollipop update notification can manually check for one. Just head to Settings>About Phone>System Update>Check Now.

Hi supercujo What's the rush? I have a sony Xperia Z1 and I will wait until Sony and Telstra approve the up grade. My phone is working fine on 4.4.4. In 9 months time when my contract finishes I'll buy the lattest and by them we'll probably be saying Lollypop what? I can't understand why people must have the latest update only to find it does precious little to their out of date hardware of their existing phone. My phone is not a toy as I use it for business and some private work. JMHO Cheers

  • Android 5.1 Lollipop update stuck

I got a notification for Android 5.1 Lollipop update for my phone. I downloaded the update but it is stuck in installing phase for more than 12 hours now! I have tried restarting the phone but after the restart, the phone automatically starts the system update again and is still stuck. What can I do?

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

The question remains, will hp push lollipop for slate 7 extreme? Would be great to have usable sd card support again...I seriously doubt this will occur. There are newer tablets from HP than the Extreme that have yet to receive KitKat!    WyreNut

  • Location based wifi error

So I have a Lollipop updated D6633.  From what I understand Sony got rid of the Location based wifi support with the new Lollipop release.  However I keep on getting an error message every so often as attached, showing that location based wifi has stopped.  I also attach what I think is a logcat.  Anyone else expereinced this problem?

  • Portable Wireless Server WG-C10 doesn't stream any audio and some video content after updating phone to Android Lollipop 5.x

The Portable Wireless Server WG-C10 I purchased in 2014 doesn't stream any audio and some video content after updating phone to Android Lollipop 5.x.
The WG-C10 firmware is the last version which is available and the PWS Manager software is the last version available in Google Play Store.
There are no updates for the WG-C10 firmware nor PWS Manager software since 2013 or for Android 5.x (Lollipop) and I don't know if the WG-C10 firmware is the problem or if the PWS Manager software is the problem.
BTW, I am still able to stream this content on my tablet which is on KitKat (4.4.x) so the files are not corrupted.  The only problem is with Lollipop.
PWS Manager in the Google Play Store says it supports Android 4.0+ which is no longer true.
The audio file formats which fail to stream are:  mp3 and wav
The video file formats which fail to stream are:  mp4, avi and 3gp
JPEG Images appear to work fine, but I haven't tried other formats.
I purchased the WG-C10 to stream audio and video primarily to my phone and now that this no longer works, the WG-C10 is useless to me.
    Any ideas?

  • Android version to be 5.0, Lollipop name confirmed

today this new android version will be launch so we z1 owners should we worried or will android 5.0 Lollipop come to z1

We just need to fix some bugs that left in 4.4.2. Does it really matter if it's 4.4.2 or 4.4.4? Not sure. We have a Sony overlay and many tweaks under the hood. I would preffer some new features like double tap to wake up or working Bluetooth SMS -> Car Handsfree bugfix than just another os sub-revision. Developer Preview of Android L will be released tomorrow, final version probably this Autumn. I think that Z1 may get this OS version somewhere around March 2015, Z3?? probably near December 2014 or January 15. But I don't see any point for new flagship device this fall so maybe we will see Z2 Compact sharing the same hardware as Z2/Z2 Tablet. Then early 2015 release of L version for Z2 series and following release for Z1 series is quite possible. Just my own opinion.

Unfortunately, HP does not advertise the exact dates updates will occur.
When they are ready, they will be pushed to your device OTA (Over The Air).

  • Spotify crashes a lot since Lollipop update

    Hi,
I'm hoping this is a wider issue and not just my specific Nexus 5's problem to bear, however I couldn't see another recent thread...
My Spotify frequently just crashes. In addition to that, sometimes when I turn it on, the screen goes black (and you can see the green lines of the Spotify UI) however the text just won't load - for like 4 or 5 restarts of Spotify. Lastly, when it IS playing, sometimes it stutters, and you feel like it's close to crashing!
If anyone knows the solution, I'd be very grateful! I have a Nexus 5 running Lollipop... I didn't have these problems before the update, although I have had some overheating issues with the device in the past.
    Thanks!

Hi,    I'm having the same issue as above. I'm using a nexus 7 (2013) on lollipop and Spotify keeps crashing and stuttering when streaming.   This occurs both on and offline. I have performed a clean uninstall (background folders and all) and it still hasn't solved the problem.    Any help would be great thanks.

Hi, I'm also having the same problem but I'm using HTC one m7. My phone actually restarts or crashes completely when using spotify and this since I upgraded to lollipop. It gets quite annoying getting the phone to restart 2,3 or more times in a row even after waiting for the phone to fully load. I have checked and made sure that enough resources are available in case maybe they weren't. I shut down most apps that may be running in the background that aren't needed and still when I open spotify it crashes.I appreciate anyone knowing the solution to this or possible workaround if any or hope spotify knows what the problem is and releases an update soon fixing this issue
Hi both, have you tried the steps mentioned in the thread here: [PLEASE READ] Android 5.x Lollipop - Distorted playback, sound levels fluctuating or pauses etc...
