Android  DT automated  app installer now spotted on Verizon phones, is your phone clean? ?

Android bloatware alert: DT Ignite automated app installer spotted on T-Mobile, Verizon phones | PCWorld

If you read about it, it is quite scary.
It allows the carrier to get into your phone and install software such as promotions, ads, banners, etc.
The software can bypass the installer and install it self without your knowledge or consent.
It can also install bloatware which uses the metered data you use at your expense.
Right now it has been on the note 4 and the Lg g3 (from what I read).
It is real and currently in all the news.  The crazy thing about the software is that it is granted access to all information on your phone and can install anything it wants w/o your knowledge or consent...actually you can't even say no or uninstall it.  Currently the only phones that seem to be immune are the nexus phones and of course any windows/apple products.

Sorry for late reply..I was away.
@TBO27, I've tried that and it does stop the downloads and installs but only temporarily. The next time I connect the WiFi it starts downloading and reinstalling again.
@Tidbits, No, that app isn't preinstalled. I can uninstall it easily enough but it really gets annoying when a bunch of the old apps get reinstalled one after the other. I chose Sharesfinder as an example. There are many others.  I had downloaded a few electronics tutorials and simulators 2 phones ago and even they get put back...sigh.
When I bring up my Google Play Apps on the PC I can bring up the settings where it asks whether or not to show each phone in the menus. There is a checkbox for each phone. That and a button to rename the phone. I unchecked all the phones from there except the latest, most current phone but it is as if this list was being ignored.
I reset the phone a few days ago but this time I unchecked the google backup and restore. I have to keep it off until I figure this out unfortunately...
edit: Since I was testing a paid backup app I reset the phone and since I didn't let Google reinstall anything automatically but installed all my apps myself, the "My Apps" in Google Play showed only those few apps I installed myself. Everything looks as it should. I was quite happy that it finally "took" and stopped the extra app nonsense. Sad to say that when I checked that box for Google to backup and restore my Apps, passwords, settings, etc. then POOF...all those old unwanted apps came back....sigh.

  • Windows Server 2008 (TS) and Lync Web App installation failure

    Hey folks,
I've run into a little big problem due the Lync Web App installation via mstsc on a stand alone Terminal Server 2008 SP2 64 Bit. When I tried to install the Lync Web App Plugin via
mstsc and standard user I get the message:
    "The system administrator has
set up a policy that the installation
    prevents"
    Till that it's just fine.
The next thing I did is to disable the UAC and DEP, but same problem as above. I also tried to extract the install EXE for the MSI packages to allow the installation. But did not work.
After I searched the internet for an answer relating to this problem I've had to create or change a RegEdit entry. So I switched to the registry to:
    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
and created a DWORD entry DisableMSI and set it to 0. Then I tried the installation of Lync Web App Plugin via
mstsc and standard user again and this message appeared:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755"
Now the curious thing is, that when I am logged on locally, the standard user is able to install the Lync Web App Plugin. And it works fine. After the installation is complete I can switch to mstsc again and it works.
The only thing what doesn't work is to install Lync Web App Plugin via mstsc into the user profile.
    Any suggestions?

Before you install the application, change your user mode to installation mode.
You can run the following command with Prompt Command:
    Change user /install
After the application is installed, change back to execution mode, you can do so by running the following command:
    Change User /Execute

  • APP STORE (APPS INSTALLATION PROBLEM IN IPHONE 5s)

I am using iphone 5s 16 gb, i have been facing the issue in app store, every other app I try to install free on my iphone 5s, I get the "App could not be purchased at this time" box. After that the app store shows a the circling progress indicator rotating indefinitely below the app, and I can't click to try to install again.
Later when i close the app and again start the app, i find the cloud symbol next to that particular app,
This has been happening since the release of iOS7 more than a month ago.
It's unlikely to be a network problem since it happened on various locations. The fact that the app installs the apps but there are issues while installing,
Please clear this issue of mine.???
    Thanks,
    MOHIT

After updated apps, apps would  disappear on iOS 6 but not iOS 7 apps will not disappear as long lists of apps where are completed and won't disappears.. I read article and explained how to get rid of the updated apps that it said:
"This is by design now due to the Automatic Updates Feature.  The only way I have found to clear them is to go into Setting> General> Date & Time and turn off the automatic setting, set your month to several days/month in the future..
Then go back to the App Store and the updates should clear, Then go back to your Date & Time setting and change it back to automatic" by KalebsDad78.
I did try this but still there and won't clear..  I can't figure it out how to get rid..

  • Changing Win 8.1 Pro Store App Installation Folder

I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet with Windows 8.1.  The c:\ is very limited capacity at only 24GB.  With the OS only on the c:\ I just have 8.6GB of free space.  So I have added a 64gb SSD to the machine and want to install all my apps on
it and not the C Drive.  I know the apps get installed in c:\Program Files\WindowsApps folder so I have ROBOCOPY'd all the files to d:\Program Files\WindowsApps and created a symbolic link using mklink.  It seems that new apps are install correctly
now on d:\ however the existing apps fail to open. What is the Microsoft's solution to making this happen seamlessly?

    Hi,
I am sorry to say the action about changing the folder location is not supported. And the APP installation folder is designed hidden by default, which means the folder should better not be modified by users.
So if we have any backups available, please consider to restore to the point before the modification, and then using Diskpart to make the C:/ drive larger. Or we might consider to
    reset the PC.

  • Creative Cloud app (installer) does not show all installed apps - do I get updates?

    Hi,
with the installer, I've installed CC-versions of several apps (InDesign, Lightroom, PS, Premiere etc). They all work as expected, and start registered to me etc.
When I now open the Creative Cloud app, I see only "Photoshop CC" listed under "Your apps".
On the "Home" tab, I only see one activity; namely the update of "Creative Cloud" 12 minutes ago.
    1) Do I get upgrades for the other installed apps regardless? (nothing over the last few weeks, at least - been like this for some time)
    2) How can I get the installer in sync with installed versions, without reinstalling the individual apps? (takes time, have done it once already, sigh!)
    Addl. info;
On my first install, I accidentaly got localized (Norwegian) versions of the apps (due to installer defaulting to OS language/locale, I guess). Locale also affects keyboard shortcuts, and that confused me so much (muscle memory since Photoshop 3), so I had to *reinstall*. (Searched forums, no way to change locale except first change in Creative Cloud installer, then reinstall all apps).
Anyways; I did this, got English versions (with English shortcuts, phew!), and I had the reinstalled apps in the Creative Cloud app for quite some time. At some update, they got lost.
    Best regards,
    Henrik

    Hey Pete,
I'm not sure why Acrobat XI is not recognized. It is on my system. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling it.
You can uninstall through the OS
Control Panel > Programs & Features
and then reinstall it through the Creative Cloud app or https://creative.adobe.com/products

  • Help! Finder thinks photoshop is automator.app. How do I correct this?

    Hi,
Finder thinks that my program "Adobe Photoshop 7.0" is to be opened by automator.app
I've copied over a saved version of the application but the system still thinks this to be to do with automator.app
how do I fix this without re-installing the whole lot (if i can find the cd!!!)
    I just updated to os x 10.4.10
just before the error I was about to upload some photos from my camera and the capilo mounter program which does this reported a usb error.
About that time I also I got problems again with my freecom 400gb going back to its old tricks of making finder hang again (see earlier post)
    any ideas?

    Brody Hi,
mine is the APG graphics Powermac G4
Machine Name: Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics)
    Machine Model: PowerMac3,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.7)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 400 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.1.8f5
<quote>Was the machine asleep with Energy Saver before the issues began?.....</quote>
No the machine was not asleep in this instance.
I have the "put disks to sleep" option to off because of problems i had (and still have) with a freecom 400GB external drive.
    <quote>Is your data backed up?</quote>
    Yes.
also I now see that when i click on a .jpg the finder is able to find the photoshop i moved from os x applications in readiness for copying over the backed up version. This seems to me to indicate that the problem is with finder identifying a click on the photosho application icon with the application itself.
<quote>I may not be able to answer all questions immediately as I'm going out of town this weekend and may not have access to the internet. So don't do anything rash without first asking if it can be done and getting a reply.</quote>
I won't and thanks very much for troubling yourself with my problem

  • Best Practice - App installation location?

After switching from Windows to Mac I've tried to be pretty security concious with how I run things. My user account doesn't have Admin, and I rarely have to escalate to Admin on my system. However, there is something that is bothering me.
I noticed that all bundled apps are in the root Applications folder. This makes sense, as this makes them available to all users. But when installing new apps, they don't go into the Applications folder in my Home folder, instead also defaulting to root. (in fact, not a single app is in my Home folder, now that I check)
Is this normal operation? I've noticed a lot of installers let you pick a target volume, but then dump the app straight to the root apps folder. Should I be re-directing these to my Home folder? Will this adversely affect performance?
It just seems a little odd to me.

I've never installed anything into Applications in my home folder (~/Applications).
But +in principle+ (but I've only done the one...), the difference is:
If you install it into the system-wide Applications folder (/Applications) then any user of your computer can use it. But installation requires an administrative password. Some applications will require this.
If you install into ~/Applications, then only you can use the application, but you do not need an administrative password to install. You (or any malware that is running as you) would also be able to change it.
Since you are paranoid about security, you should also note that if you installed an application into /Applications by dragging the application into the Applications folder and then typing an administrative password (i.e. no installer) then that application is owned by your nonadministrative user (at least in Tiger). This means you (or any malware that you have inadvertently launched) can modify the application without an administrative password which is bad. You can check this by (single)clicking the application in Finder and then typing Command-I (for Info) and looking at the ownership and permissions information (near the bottom of the Info window). Hopefully your administrative user, and not your nonadmin one, owns the application. If not, there might be a GUI way of "fixing" this, but the only way I know is to open a Terminal and type
    <pre>
    sudo chown -R admin:admin /Applications/application.app/
    sudo chmod -R go+Xr /Applications/application.app/
    </pre>
where the first admin is the (short) name of your administrative user, and application is the name of the application. The second command (chmod) should strictly not be necessary, but shouldn't hurt.
The first sudo command will prompt for your admin password and you have to already be an admin to use it. If you are launching the Terminal as your nonadmin user, then the sequence of commands must be preceded by
    <pre>
    su admin
    </pre>
which will also prompt for your admin password.

  • Automator app won't run from double-click

automator app won't run from double-click in finder or from alert from ical. Will only run if I open in automator editor.
I found a solution on my own. I opened activity monitor and all the automator apps that I run daily were hanging up and the auromator launch was hanging up. I force quit them from the activity monitor. Now it works again.

I might have gotten there eventually on my own, but I suspect finding your post saved me a lot of work. Thanks for posting your solution.

  • I only want one app for now

I currrently have Adobe Creative Cloud and only want one app for now which is Photoshop .... I accidentally installed Lightroom, Bridge CC, Exchange Panel, Extendscript toolkit, Extension manager, touch app plugins from Creative Cloud and would like to uninstall these apps until I have a full understanding of the Creative Cloud.
I pay monthly for membership and do not want to uninstall the Creative Cloud.
Please advise on how to uninstall these other apps.

  • Stop app installation

I was trying to update an app but I didn't have enough storage and now I can't access the app anymore.I don't want to add storage or clean another app. How can I stop the installation without deleting the app and lose the game progress? Signing out and turning the phone off didn't work.

You can try to force the installer to quit or shut your computer down.

  • How do you find "App installation path"

According to the SDK doc page 117 on presets, you're supposed to install to "App installation path" but I can't find a reliable registry entry that indicates what it is.
    Premiere Pro presets
    [App installation path]\MediaIO\systempresets\[exporter subfolder]
    I did find...
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\[version]\AMECodecCache\64\en_US\AppRoot
    and..
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Premiere Pro\[version]\AMECodecCache\64\en_US\Default\AppRoot
    and...
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\CommonFiles\Usage\Agent
What is the correct way to detect the installation path?
What if the user has CS5 and CS6 installed?
What if the user doesn't have en_US installed as the language?
Is it really a common preset system for CS5 and CS6 as the doc suggests or do you have to put it in both PPro and AME?
    thx
    Rallymax

I should put a link from page 177 to page 35 on plug-in installation.  There it gives the Premiere Pro app path you’re looking for:
Presets and editing mode XML files are loaded from the application-specific folders, not from the
common location. On Windows, the root path for Premiere Pro is in the registry at
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\
Adobe Premiere Pro.exe. Then, just add the proper subdirectories.
    For sequence presets:
    \Settings\SequencePresets\[Your specific folder]\
    Editing modes:
    \Settings\Editing Modes\
    Sequence preview presets:
    \Settings\EncoderPresets\SequencePreview\[Your editing mode GUID]\
    Encoder presets:
    \MediaIO\systempresets\[Your exporter folder]\
Unfortunately there’s no Media Encoder app path given.  I’ll log a bug if you’re interested.
However, now that the AME team has added the new Preset Browser for CS6, that info on installing the presets in a separate location for each app for better performance may no longer be relevant.  Installing to the shared location here…
    [User folder]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\AME\[version]\Presets\
might be fine and quite a bit easier.
