Android viewer scrollable frames

We often use scrollable frames in folios. Is there a chance the the native android viewer supports vector scrollable frames in the near future?

Yup, soon. We're trying very hard to get them done but there are some memory things on Android that get in the way of us releasing it. We're working on those issues now.

  • IOS Viewer Scrollable Frames bug

Scrollable frame drawers pulled down and to the right, which are set to Use Document Position, function as expected in the desktop and Android ACVs, but are displayed as static fully drawn objects without the scrolling functionality in the iOS ACV.
Adding the stand-off item that was used in the pre Use Document Position era will get them to function correctly.
    See in this sample document.

the behaviour is really different between desktop and iPad. the android viewer and the desktop viewer are both built in the (same?) air framework, so they behave the same the most time.
funny that it is working there, i always need to insert some "helper boxes" to ensure that there is enough flesh in the scrollable content that you can drag out of the view:

  • Scrollable Frame issue on iPad 'Adobe Viewer'

I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue when previewing a folio with the iPad viewer.
The issue is when I have a full (or even part) page scrollable frame on a page and once I have vertically swiped/scrolled to the end of the scrollable frame, then the next vertical swipe seems to stick much more than usual and requires a much longer/sustained swipe to get it to move on to the next page.
This issue is only occuring when previewing a folio on the iPad viewer. It behaves as expected (short normal swipes) when previewed on the Desktop 'Content Viewer'. It also behaves as expected when simply previewing from the Folio Overlays panel – both on the Desktop viewer and iPad viewer. It also behaves if I import the article as PNG format into a folio, however I am requiring vector quality/display for this project so can't ignore the issue.
It also does not fix the issue to select 'raster' rather than 'vector' in export options within the 'scrollable frame' folio overlay panel.
My first thought was that maybe this is just a quirk of the iPad viewer, but the fact that the behaviour works in most other scenarios has me guessing. Maybe i am missing something somewhere which may explain this. I see the use of Scrollable Frames in this manner within many apps (in vector/PDF) without experiencing this issue, hence why I am leaning towards it being a quirk of the viewer when as a folio with a PDF scrollable frame.
I am using the latest viewers (Desktop and iPad app). The folio's tested trying to resolve this issue have been in both v26 and v27. Using InDesign CS6 on Mac. Same issue happens whether iPad is horizontal or vertical.
Please let me know if you need any further details on my setup or what i have been testing if that will help.
    Thanks
    Ross

i had this problem once, in the folio producer have you given the folio a name, number and description?
also in the viewer on the ipad they are not nessecarily in the right order - so scoot about on it
if all else fails, delete the folio and re-upload, we had a glitch once and the only solution was to re upload

  • Scrollable Frame causing viewer on iPad 1 to close

    Hello,
I am about to launch my magazine on the iPad, just need to send the App for Apple's approval. Unfortunately I am facing the problem above when changing orientation on iPad 1, and I don't like the idea of launching a "buggy" product.
The scrollable frame that is causing the viewer to close is vertical and is 2517 px height.
Is there any size limit that I should keep when working with Scrollable Frames?
    Thanks in advance.

You got a point here Bob!
My idea is to send the app with only a few (perfectly functional) articles for approval.
One other thing I can do is to not work on both orientations. I am using vertical and horizontal orientations to complement the content, on the vertical layout I have the main article and, in some cases, I use the horizontal to present photos as slideshows, scrollable frames...
But after your comment, I'll con tinue to try (harder) to overcome the problem.
    Thanks.

  • Scrollable frames. Buttons not working.

    Hello.
I have a problem with buttons in the scrollable frames.
I have a slideshow with a thumb's. Each thumb consist of MSO (non active icon and active icon) and clear frame - button to that MSO and to slide foto. The thumb's grouped and placed into the frame with horizontal scroll overlay effect.
That frame placed into another frame-pull out tab, which have vertical scroll effect. And when I pressed the button, slide fotos changes correctly, but button MSO not working.

Sorry for my english. I need help very much.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I understand that I can use two 'states'  of the buttons. And I tried it. But. Buttons renditions are raster images. And on the retina display we had bad quality. My target was to create vector buttons. With good quality on both displays.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi (again),
It seems that you built your stuff in a very complicated way.
    First, try to make simple!
You mixed MSO and buttons functions. Useless and unfonctional.
Yous should use only button panel, with two different 'states' ('Normal' and 'Clic').
See below (no MSO function used at all for the button):
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-5735625-468602/445-605/Button_ 1.jpg http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-5735625-468603/448-605/Button_ 2.jpg
Use the layer panel to easily select the objects you want to modify.

  • EXPORTING SCROLLABLE FRAMES TO EPUB

    HI ALL,
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO EXPORT SCROLLABLE FRAMES IN EPUB? I AM BUILDING AN EPUB BOOK FOR ANDROID AND I HAVE SOME SCROLLABLE FRAMES THAT WORK FINE WHEN I PREVIEW THEM, BUT THEN WHEN I EXPORT THEM THE FUNCTIONALITY IN TH EPUB FILE IS LOST. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM?
    THANKS
    CR

    thanks Carl.
I had found this same link on the forum, but not being a programmer myself I was hopping there would be a more straightforward solution!
I am having a book a wrote on ibooks author and published with Apple, now trying to also do in a format that would be compatible with non-Apple users, but I am finding that for simple users like me InDesign is a bit of a nightmare! Apple has a number of plug-and-play powerful widgets in ibooks author and trying to get the same functionality in inDesign and EPUB does not seem to be possible.
but thanks for your help and for replying.

  • Can't swipe to next article on scrollable frame?

    Hi,
I'm not sure what's happening here. I've got a page with a scrolling frame which covers the whole page, frame is set to scrolling, scroll direction is vertical only. I've just updated some of the scrollabe content and now when I view on iPad I can't swipe to the next article, the swipe to next article worked fine yesterday, all content and links work OK I just can't get off the page now... any suggestions?

    So Okay,
Excuse the lame design (only 10 minutes of my lunch break left)
So I quickly mocked up a 768x1024 doc (Horizontal)
Made a Scrollable frame 732x952px to sit on the page bleed at the bottom and within left and right margins
Created 4000px Deep worth of fake content (Grouped and pasted into the scrolling frame)
    Set to vertical scroll only
Popped a stickly overlay on top and a background image underneath
    All in seperate layers.
    Imported as a PNG article
    and here are the results.
All images are screen grabs and the last demonstrates that even with a scrolling frame this long - if you import as png you can still horizontally swipe off it
    All's good!

  • Scrollable Frame solution for EPUB Fixed Layout

    Hi,
I have found a solution (or, rather a hack) which allows us to create scrolling frames for EPUB Fixed Layouts.
You can find the exported EPUB, as well as my InDesign file on my Dropbox: EPUB scroll.
This solution has some weak points and has only been tested in iBooks on an iPad with iOS 8, but here's how it works:
Create two text frames (one as big as your text requires, and one which will be the container [tip: make the container a bit wider than the text frame])
Cut the big text frame, select the smaller container frame, and Edit->Paste into
Right click on the container, select Object Export Options, choose EPUB and HTML and enter "subchapter" as epub:type:
Open a text editor and create a new CSS file. For CSS code, see below
Export as Fixed layout EPUB. In the export dialog box, select the CSS tab and add the previously created CSS file
    Done!
    CSS code:
    div[*|type = "subchapter"] {
    position: relative;
    div[*|type = "subchapter"] > div {
    overflow: auto;
As you see, steps 1 and 2 are essentialy the same as for creating a scrollable frame folio overlay.
It’s not perfect, and this solution is just a proof-of-concept, but it should get you going.
An obvious problem is that we use basic HTML scrollbar, which is not being displayed in e-book readers such as iBooks on the iPad. Hence, the user has now idea how long the scrollable content stretches. This could probably be solved with a more complex, JS-based solution.
Also, the gradient feather at the bottom (which is intended to create a "fade-out effect) seems not to export well. This one should be easy to solve, placing another rectangle with a gradient in it. But I’m not sure if transparency exports well, and haven’t tested it.
Feel free to use, and improve, this hack!
    Thanks,
    /Jacob

    Thank you Uwe,
I look and hold you aware of your solution in an environment EPUB

@Papo – then I would suggest not a scrollable frame, but an MSO you can click through showing the whole text.
    1. Do some text frames the same size
    2. Thread all the text frames to one story
    3. Align the text frames
    4. Make a MSO out of it:
The text frames are still threaded and text can easily flow between them.
    5. Do some navigation buttons to control the MSO states:
"Go To First State", "Go To Next State", "Go To Previous State" etc.
Later you can change the text (add or remove, do different formatting) flowing in that story through the states.
A very flexible solution. Ok, it's not a scrollable frame, but something like that…

  • Scrollable frames question.

    Hey there,
we've got a problem at work with building scrollable frames.
We've made endless amounts of regular scrollable frames, which all work perfectly.
But now we're trying to paste an image into a "free shape" (triangle for example, or a trapezium,...) and make that scrollable.
It works fine in indesign, but when viewed on the iPad. the triangle shape (or any shape really) turns into regular rectangle again.
Is there a way to do this? Or are scrollable frames always rectangular?
    THANKS!
    kev

cvg.br, follow Bob's suggestion to the letter:
    - create your scrollable frame using rectangles
    - draw the non-rectangular shape you want to use as a mask and arrange it in front of the scrollable frame
    - with the non-rectangular shape selected, convert it into a multi-state object (it'll become two identical states)
    - set the MSO to autoplay once (everything else unticked) in the Slideshows section of Folio Overlays

  • Failed to load the folio. Pan Only, Scrollable Frame Overlay

    Hello All,
I get the error "Failed to load the folio." when previewing a page in the Content Viewer with a scrollable frame overlay using this technique described here:
Create scrollable frames using Pan Only:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/digitalpubsuite/using/WS67cb9e293e2f1f605e8ea44412b13edc5ec-80 00.html
I checked the KB but the solution to remedy the problem is vague. I am not using any offending characters and what's odd is that I can pan and zoom images without a problem. When I try to scroll the text I get the error.
The folio I am testing is a new document, there is no other content other than this text frame. I've compiled other folios without a hitch but this is the first instance I am using this technique. The workstation I am working on had the prerelease tools on it then upgraded to the most current version about a week ago.
I am guessing that maybe the prerelease tools were not properly removed and that could possibly be a problem? If so what files am I looking for or is there a link someone can provide?
Or maybe the current tools/Content Viewer need to be removed and installed again? Again, what files need to be removed?
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.
    D.

    Hey Peter,
Thanks for the link. I have tried both techniques, the layer and the paste into and both yeild the same result with the "Failed to load the folio." error. I also forgot to mention that I am using CS5.

  • Hyperlinks within scrollable frames

I'm trying to get hyperlinks within a scrollable text frame to work but it's not working properly in the content viewer. Is it possible to do them within scrollable content, and if so, is there a certain technique that works best? Thanks!

Sorry -- I've created a scrollable content layer that works properly, just with text scrolling down. I've selected the text and created a hyperlink using the hyperlinks panel (that works for the text in non-scrollable frames). When I view the issue in the Content Viewer on the iPad, the hyperlinks outside the scrollable frames work fine and open, but those within the scrollable frames do not. Is there a specific way I should be creating the hyperlinks within the scrollable frames that I'm not doing correctly? Thanks.

  • Button in Scrollable Frame not working

Hey, I read lots of other questions concerning this topic but could'nt  find a sollution
I am working with CS5.5 and the newest version of the Folio producer. I have a page witz a Video, some buttons and a scrollable Frame where are some pictures inside. These pictures ae grouped together and then anchored inside of the frame. Scrolling these images works fine, but when convert the pictures into Buttons and and link them to a random website nothing happens when I click them.
Is it only possible to test this on the iPad? At this moment I can only test in the Content Viewer Deskop Application. I have already tried everything...putting layers to the front or background, defining the pictures as Buttons before or after putting them into the scrollable frame...nothing is changing...
Now I am despairing a bit. Hope somebody can help me!

Yes yes, I know. But makes it a difference with this issue? Problem is: I have the iPad I use for testing only from while to while and I dont get it back before monday. Not a very good starting point to build a folio, I know...

  • Scrollable Frames Problem

I'm trying to use the scrollable frame to create a vertical sliding tab/tray (created the grouped object, pasted it into the frame). The bizarre thing is that the first time I created it and previewed it, it worked perfectly fine. However, I altered the grouped object and now the Content Viewer isn't even detecting that I'm clicking on an object. If anyone knows what I might be doing wrong I'd be tremendously thankful. As a side-note, I also tried to do the tray workaround but had no luck.

Okay, I've figured it out. You still have to use the tray workaround. The scrolling frames won't scroll unless the main tray has been cropped via the frame and the invisible box is still there. At least for grouped objects, I haven't tested it with just a simple image.

  • V20 Problem Scrollable Frames

    Hi Everyone!
I have InDesign CS5.5 and I'm having a problem with the new scrollable frames functions.
I tried to recreate a scrollable frame like the one shown here tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-digital-publishing-suite/scrollable-frames-and-pan-zoom-v19/ at 03:43.
    My Problem is:
Hide Scroll Indicators does not work
Use Document Position does not work too.
I have installed the latest producer tools (FolioProducerTools-CS55-1.10.1 and FolioPanel-CS55-12.2.2.1).
I'm running Windows (Is this the problem here? :-P )
I un- and reinstalled the producer tools.
I also tried it on my windows notebook. Same result.
Do I need to install anything else to get it working?
Maybe someone can help me here.
    Best,
    Wolfgang
Message was edited by: Onefootvisual19 I uninstalled the Folio Producer Tools v 1.10.1 and installed s v 1.8 (where the feature scrollable frame wasn't available yet) than installed v 1.9 (the wanted function as described above didn't work) and then finally reinstalled v.1.10.1. It still doesn't work ...  Am I the only one here who experiences these problems?

Here are also three screenshots to illustrate my problem.
1.) I the red frame is the container of the grouped elements that are scrollable (on the left side is the whole element so you can see it). Hide scroll indicators option is checked and also use document position.
    2. When I start the Content Viewer the scrollable frame places the content on the upper left corner ...
    3. and scroll indicators are visible
    What's the problem here?
    Can  anyone help me out?

    Here is another strange thing:
I looked up http://www.caniupdateadobedps.com/ and they say that you find the dps version number in the info window of the folio builder panel. it should be 20.
but mine says 15? though I installed v20 now for the fifth time.
the extension manager says I have v20 though.
Is this the cause for my dps functions not working the way they should?
I really would appreciate some help here.

    Dear Neil,
Thank you for pointing out the right direction.
    Here is the deal:
After I deleted all the parts you described and reinstalled the tools it still didn't work, but I noticed in the Extension Manager that the plug-in was still active and located at the location where I installed InDesign CS5.5. I again deinstalled the tools and also deleted the "(DigitalPublishing Resources)" folder and the plug-in "DigitalPublishing.apln" (which was from the year 2011).
Than I reinstalled the tools and after starting InDesign CS5.5 the panel window told me I'm missing a plug-in and I should download the latest producer tools.
Here is the trick: I copied the newly created (from reinstalling the new tools) "(DigitalPublishing Resources)" and the "DigitalPublishing.apln" from C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5.5\Plug-Ins\Graphics to the location where I have installed InDesign CS5.5 and it works!
Neil, thank you very much for your time!
    You saved my day!
    Best,
    Wolfgang

  • Scrollable Frames canceled out by video on page

I had wired up a scrollable frame (tab) at the bottom of my page. Tested and everything works fab. I added a layer above this scrollable area and dropped several video clips into the layout. Those clips are part of the main page content.
As soon as I did this, the container and the scrollable content placed into that container doesn't render when the file is Published/tested. It fails on both Desktop and iPad Viewer.
If I hide the layers contain the video clips the scrollable frame content returns and works just fine. Is this a known issue that video even being present on the same page kills scrollable content?
New to using scrollable frames along side video content, and I haven't tried the myriad of hacks to get it to work. Want to start with the obvious questions... should this work?
    Thanks
    Steve

I've made some progress, and have also made some odd discoveries.
So, I was able to make the MSO work - but it doesn't work consistently. I went back to the original approach of putting the tab on the first state, and the videos on the next 3 states, This way the tab starts things off, and as soon as someone taps the invisible buttons to jump to any video, those videos play fullscreen.
The trick is a tap to return to the first state where you are then able to drag the tab (scrollable frame) up. It might trip a few users, but is a trade off, where most people will just try to drag it again and will have success. Acceptable for this secondary content.
This page is the last page in a 9 page stack. When I "Preview" the page on Desktop or direct to iPad. the page loads up by itself and everything works great!
However, when I upload the whole article/stack to the DPS server, and download it. I of course have to swipe down from page 1. When I arrive on page 9, the videos work just fine, but the tab is gone on the first state. It doesn't render at all.
Once you click to a video, you see the "dummy" tab appear on those other states. Clicking in that place holder area to return to the first state where the tab should be removes the "dummy" tab, and the actual tab doesn't render.
As you can imagine - this is maddening!
Thoughts I have... could something on the other pages be messing it up? Possibly, but every page in the rest of the article have static content, and 1 scrollable frames. No other videos OR multistates. And all the other scrollable frames work 100% of the time.
Is there a limit to the number of scrollable areas and I've hit it? I'm going to start trashing pages one at a time to see if I strike a nerve. But I'm grasping at straws.
If you think of something, all suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks!
    Steve
