Animated GIF - Animation slows after save CS3

Hello,
When Saving an animated GIF in Photoshop CS3 the animated frames slow when viewed after the save. Therefore any gradient fades etc seem to stutter, about 25% slower than the frame rate set initially.
When the animation is played in photoshop it plays at the right speed, only slows when viewing the file after saving...
Any ideas?
Many thanks
Andy

I just experienced the same problem in Photoshop. 22 frames with "no delay" selected in all of them. When opening the animation in IE6 and Firefox it runs slower than the original.
Therefore, would you be kind to post it if you found a solution?
Hope to hear something soon.
Thanx!

  • Animated gif, bad quality after exporting.

    Hi,
    I've done this image:
    http://kpopgames.com/images/widgetv2.gif
It's an animated gif, but I noticed that the quality became bad. Especially in the face of the characters there. How can I fix this?
Here are the individual pictures used in this gif:
    http://www.kpopgames.com/images/widget.jpg
    http://www.kpopgames.com/images/widget1.jpg
    http://www.kpopgames.com/images/widget2.jpg
The third pic looks okay, but the first and second one are really bad..
I've also tried optimizing it and this is the best one I got:
    http://www.kpopgames.com/widgetv2.gif
it's better but it's still bad in quality.

It's actually good quality for a GIF animation. You'll get better results by exporting it in SWF format. SWF handles JPEG's better than GIF format, whch is limited to 256 colors. To export in SWF (Flash) format, choose File > Save As. Choose Adobe Flash. Click on the Options button to set the speed.

  • .gif preview slow in Save for Web

I am having an issue in Save for Web where the .gif animation preview works very slow and choppy. I am an advertising designer and many times I need to work on animated .gif banners. I am working with Photoshop CS6. When I play the animation in the frame timeline the animation speed works as intended, a little choppy but the timing isn't too bad. However when I go into the Save for Web screen and play the animation it always appears a lot slower and looks choppy. Anything se to 0.0 or No Delay runs as if its set to .1 seconds. Now if I export the file and open it in Chrome the animation speed seems to go back to normal. This wasn't always the case, I tested this 2 or 3 months ago and the animation speed in the export was also slow and choppy but it must have been fixed in one of the updates since then.
My issue is I don't want to have to preview everything in Chrome after I export it, and then possibly have to go back and tweak it then save again, preview again etc. I have never encountered this issue in previous versions on Photoshop or other machines. Ususally my experience has been the opposite, the frame timeline has always been slower, but previewing in Save fro Web has shown a pretty accurate preview.
I also have a HP laptop running Windows 7, photoshop CS6 and I don't encounter this issue at all. It seems that everyones default answer on all of the forums is "different browsers handle .gif animation speeds differently, etc.." but int he past I have saved a .gif on my mac and it was slow and choppy in the Chrome, then I saved the same file on my PC transfered it back to the mac and previewed in Chrome and the animation played quickly and smoothly.
I can't see it being a hardware issue because the machine I am using is farily new. iMac Late 2013/2013, 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB, running OSX 10.8.4 Mountain Lion.
Could it possibly be a setting or preference that needs to be changed? As I stated above it seems that now when I export the animation works fine in the browser the preview is just slow, but I have read that many people are having this issue so hopedully someone will have a solution.

I don't use a Mac but the first the first thing I do when I have performance problems with Photoshop on my PC is to do some house cleaning.  I reset my Photoshop Preference to a saved copy I made when Photoshop was working well.  I Also clean my disk up clearing caches and temp files so the plenty of scratch space.  I close all applications and look at the machine CPU utilization. Then try Photoshop to see if it is back to its normal performance.

  • After Effects skipping frames in animated GIFs

    Hello,
I have a 20 PNG sequences (each with 8 images) that I would like to combine into a single Animated GIF.  That's 160 frames, which adds up to 00:00:05:10 on my timeline.  After Effects shows the proper number of frames when they are arranged in sequence.
When I attempt to render the GIF, however, After Effects drops 12 frames in the final output, giving me a total of only 148.  This was confirmed when I re-imported the animated GIF back into After Effects; its duration was only 00:00:04:28.  The frames appear to be getting pulled from all over the GIF, with no apparent pattern.
I need all 160 frames because I am eventually going to convert them to a sprite sheet for a game (I have a program that will convert GIFs into sprite sheets).  I've attached a copy of the sprite sheet that I just exported from the GIF; notice that 12 frames are missing.
Does anyone know why AE would remove frames like this?

The After Effects forum would be a good place to ask. This is just a general animation forum that is read by only 13 people.

  • Problems/help with animated GIF exports

I am an experienced Photoshop user.  I recently upgraded to CS5 (Windows) and have been attempting to produce animated gif files.
After reading a few tutorials on the topic, I have been able to:
    Create a PSD with a few jpg images as layers;
    Move the layers to the animation window;
Set the cycle times and optimize the animation window; and,
Use the Save for Web Devices dialog to create the GIF file.
Everything appears to be normal throughout this process.  However, the exported GIF file appears as a dark gray frame when I open it in IE, or upload it to my image hosting site.
Anybody else experiencing this type of problem?
    Thanks

No, my Photoshop CS5 saves animated GIFs just fine, and I did just what you said.  For example (you have to click on an image here to see it animate):
Can you post your image here?  Maybe it could be a problem with your browser not animating the image properly?  What version of IE do you use?

  • What's the simplest way to export a single frame from an animated gif as gif?

i have an animated gif and wish to save a single frame as a non-animated gif.
in the past i've been achieving this by deleting all the frames i don't wish to export and deleting them before exerting, this seems very clumsy though so i figure there's a more sensible solution in there somewhere, but where?

Thanks, Bill! Actually version 9 looks a little clearer than that, as it has two bold clear white paddles to mark the edge of the work area.
I was a little frustrated at first, because whatever I did, it still took a year and exported the entire video.
    Then:
I caught sight of this teeny tiny box waiting for a tick from me, which said:
    Share Work area Bar Only
    We have lift-off
Thanks again. So much quicker than all that deleting ahnd hoping you don't accidentally say "yes" when prompted to save changes!

  • Animated Gif - Save for web not showing full frame range

    Hey,
I'm trying to export an animated gif with 52 frames - I'm using the timeline in CS6, it's exported correctly in the past but when I try and save for web only a seemingly arbitrary number of rames appear in the animation. With no clear route to rectify this, I've tried to affect the outcome by simply moving things around on the timeline.
I've had a variety of frame ranges (and frames) numbering between 2 and 6 frames, far off my 52 target. It's a simple image and equally simple transition to keep filesize down but I'm completely bamboozled by this. It looks like a bug but any advice I could get would be much appreciated.

If it worked in the past with CS6 try resetting your CS6 Photoshop Preferences.  If you still have the problem after that.  Up load the PSD file to a server and post a link to it.

  • ImageReady...creating animated GIF, how do you change save settings?

I cant find an ImageReady forum, hope this will do for now...
Its been forever since I have used ImageReady and Im rusty again!  I just created an animated GIF but want to lower the file size of it a little after it saves everything to GIF.  Currently, the GIF is a little larger than I care for in filesize.  Where are the settings to lower the quality and everything else for this?

Image Ready was discontinued with CS2?  There are other ways to animate now, but just not in image ready, and it is not as easy.

  • Looping options in Save for Web - Animated GIF

I find this one rather annoying, in the latest verison of Adobe Photoshop CS6 when creating an animated GIF via the Save for Web dialog box; there is a looping option section that allows your animation to loop forever, or once...
In the previous version, it would remember which setting you selected for subsequent saves.  In this new version, it forgets it and always defaults to ONCE; where I want FOREVER... making me forget to check it sometimes, when I'm working fast; and create animations that stop after one loop...
    Anyone else experience this annoyance?
    -Joe

Seems like people shouldn't have to re-request features that were already features in the last version.
Either Adobe took the "stickyness" of that setting out on purpose, in which case I'd expect nothing more will be done, or they left it out accidentally with the restructuring of the Timeline window, in which case it would be a bug, no?
But Christoph is right in either case - you can help ensure it is seen by posting it on the http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/ site.

  • Firefox slows down when opening a site with animated gifs

After updating to FF4, I find that whenever I try to open a page that has multiple animated gifs on it, firefox slows down tremendously. CPU usage goes up to 50-75% and all animated gifs are moving really slow.
It's not only large animated gifs, but it also occurs on forums that have animated smilies. I never had this problem in FF 3.6 nor any other browser (IE, Chrome, Safari). If I start FF4.0 without any add-ons or plugins it does the same thing. Even with a fresh install. Does anyone have a solution to his problem? Since I can't use some of my favorite sites now with FF, without my pc slowing everything down.

Disabling the hardware acceleration worked for me!

  • Slow down animated gif

I created an animated gif in Fireworks with 7 states. I set the properties state delay to 15 for all states, I also try 30 state delay for all states. When I preview in Fireworks, it's works. Then after I export it and open it in Firefox, Safari or mail programs everything gets ignored and the animation zooms through. Any idea how to slow down?
Would increasing the states help? Or using Photoshop instead work better? Thank you.

Are you on a Mac? If so, you can use Preview to view the GIF's contents. Inside Preview, choose Tools > Show Inspector (Command-I), then select the More Info and GIF tabs. From here, you can view the delay time for each individual frame, if one has been specified.
Incidentally, the pink character is a graphic (by Cory Thoman) from this tutorial on creating animated GIFs inside Photoshop's Image Ready: http://www.illustrationinfo.com/2008/09/12/create-animated-gifs-in-imageready/

  • Animated GIFs slow down application

    Hi all,
When I open a JDialog with some animated GIFs in a JTextPane (HTML or Styles), the whole application slows down. The GIFs are very slow and are flickering.
The problems already start after less then 10 small GIFs. I'm using Java 1.5 and I have a new, fast PC. I planned to have mor than 100 animated GIFs on the screen (animated smiles in a chat).
    Thanks in advance
    Markus

Make sure to use the Flyweight design pattern so you don't open the same GIF file twice.

  • I am using Timeline to create animated GIFs, but it is going REALLY slow.

I am trying to create a simple animated GIF using Timeline. My plan is to have it last 20 seconds. But with just a couple of layers with straight-forward movements it moves incredibly slow. What is set to take 0.1 seconds takes 5-10 seconds… Am I setting my time too long? Doing the same thing for 5 seconds worked just fine -- but it was too short a time frame to get done what I wanted.

Sounds like you are using frame animation instead of timeline animation. for frames you take the total number of frames and divide it by total number of seconds, that should provide the # of seconds per frame.
Now if you would have gone the timeline route (CS3 and newer) You could have set a key frame for the beginning time of the animation and an ending time of the animation and be done with it, no need to figure out the speed. What it does is the opposite, you set the time and the fps(frames per second) and photoshop creates each frame for you.

ipad 4 retina display is slow after iOS 8, also upgrade to iOS 8.0.1 i think and safari is slow, animations are slow, and i can't restore it to iOS 7, there it was great. i mean its like my iphone 4 with iOS 7 in its best days. i hope no to get stuck again, i mean please let me go to the iOS 7)).

Upgraded my ipad4 from ios6 to iOS 8 because the new WSJ app required it. HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!! I can maybe understand some apps being slower but not Safari or Chrome. Apple must be throttling back the ipad4 processor even more with ios8 to force an upgrade to the next gen iPad whenever it arrives.
