Animated GIF as a rollover?

I need to have an animated GIF be the rollover image for a button. However, when I insert the 'up' image for the button, and naming the aminated GIF as the "over" part, it doesn't play it as an animation since an animated GIF must be added as an animation, not as an image. Is there a way to do this?

Yes, Captivate 7. I'm re-working an old Dreamweaver HTML CBT program to bring it up to today's standards using Captivate. I previously had small cartoon hands pointing to the right or left to click to go to the next or previous slide. The pointing hands are static, but on rollover I had an animated gif of the pointing hand moving in the direction it pointed. I'm certain I can figure out a workaround, just wanted to see if there was a built-in way to have an animation be the 'over' state.

  • Animated GIF starts with rollover

Hello! I want an animated gif to start when I roll over it. I
tried this with a swap image, using the "still" version of the
first frame and then setting the swap image to be an animated gif
file (set directly under the still image. Doesn't seem to work..
should I be able to do this?

Export the animation first, and then use it as the image you
    swap in.
Uncheck the preload images function in the swap image editor
    to force
the animation to begin playing onMouseOver.

  • Possible to Use Animated GIF as Rollover Image?

Before I spend a lot of time on development...does anyone
know if it's possible to use an animated GIF as a rollover image in
Captivate? I'm developing an e-Learning course for a
Sarbannes-Oxley application, and I want to be able to hover over an
object, then have a rollover graphic describe the hover target in
more detail...the catch being that I want the description to look
    like a scrolling stock ticker.
I'm sure Flash is probably the ideal development environment
for this idea, but that project is way beyond my Flash skills at
    this point...
    Thanks!

I know you can load and display a PNG image just the way you do for a GIF/JPEG one :
ImageIcon myIcon = new ImageIcon("my_icon.png");but I don't think many others formats are recognized by j2se... you can simply try to load a BMP file to find out.

  • Animated gif rollover

i've created an animated gif in fireworks i want to create a
rollover button within fireworks then export the animated gif with
rollover into fireworks. i seem to be doing something wrong, i've
created the rollover button but it isn't showing up in preview in
fireworks or showing when exported dreamweaver. any idea how to fix
    it? many thanks

If you're using Dreamweaver, the easiest thing is to do your
rollovers there. Export your two images from Fireworks, then use
    Dreamweaver's menu:
Insert > Image Objects > Rollover Image
    It's a snap.
Fireworks is a graphics program that can export HTML for
mockups and prototypes. It is not a visual Web development tool.
When you switch from making graphics to making pages, switch from
    FW to DW.

  • Loss of rollover behavior with animated GIF

I am currently working on a webpage design that has lost the ability of the rollover behavior on a page when animated gifs are optimized.  The gif images are on seperate states that cycle forever, but the rollover slices at the top of page will flash slightly when moused over but go back to original state.  The other pages that don't have the animated gif will work properly and hold the image when highlighted.  I have changed the rollover behavior on the master page from simple to swap image and that does not help.  I have also tried to insert the animated gif images as slices and only animate that portion on the page, but I can't get that to work either.   Any tips?
    Thanks

I found out that it works better to import the animated GIF's through dreamweaver.
    It is now working.

  • Animated GIF with hover?

Here is an animated GIF where you can stop and start it when you hover over it.  I know how to make them in PSD but not sure how to do it with the hovering (scroll down to see it on page below):
    http://www.sbnation.com/2014/1/16/5304078/breaking-madden-49ers-vs-seahawks-beeftank
If this something I can do in Muse?  Requires coding or is it a PSD function?  I use PSD CS4.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
This setup is possible in Muse. Please follow the steps below :
    1) First save a copy of your GIF as Jpeg image image (with just first frame of your JIF)
    2) Now place a Blank Composition Widget and keep only one Trigger and target in it (Delete the rest).
    3) Now place your GIF in Target and in Trigger, use the Fill option at top and fill the Tirgger container with the JPEG image.
    4) Select Trigger again and using the states option, you would need to delete the Fill image from Rollover, Mousedown and Active state.
    5) Place the Trigger on top of Target container and from Widget flyout opion, use the settings as shown in the image below :
A long process but should help you achieve what the effect.

  • Firefox 4.0: Improper handling of Animated Gif background-image

FF 4.0 is giving erratic and incorrect displays of an animated gif on a project I am working on. I have prepared a very small sample that demonstrates the problem.
The problem occurs when an animated gif is used as the background-image for a div (it may also be true when used as a background-image for the body, but I have not tested that).
When a page is first loaded, the animated gif displays properly.
I would expect that the animation be displayed as animated either:
    # On each page load
    # On a page load with new session or when the image is removed from cache prior to loading the page. Otherwise the last frame of the image would show
The sample page is designed to test this.
IE: Behaved as in #1, i.e. the image was animated on each and every page load. (IE 8: 8.0.6001....)
Google Chrome: Behaved as in #2, i.e. the image is animated only when there is a new session or when the image is no longer in cache. (Version 10.0.648.204)
FF 3.6.8: Slightly strange, but acceptable.
    * The image is animated on new session and on any reload button.
    * The last frame is displayed if the location is reentered in the URL bar.
    * The last frame is displayed if the back/forward navigation buttons are used.
    * SOMETIMES the image is animated and sometimes the last frame is displayed when the change page button is pressed (i.e. Javascript change page).
FF 4.0: Just plain NOT acceptable
    * Correctly animates the image on page load for new session
    * Correctly animates the image on reload button following clearing the image from cache.
    * INCORRECTLY shows the FIRST gif frame if the reload button is pressed.
    * INCORRECTLY shows the FIRST gif frame if the URL is reentered from the URL bar.
    * INCORRECTLY shows the FIRST gif frame if the page change button is pressed (i.e. Javascript change page).
    * INCORRECTLY shows the FIRST gif frame if theURL is reentered from the URL bar after clearing the image from cache.
    * INCORRECTLY shows the FIRST gif frame if the page change button is pressed (i.e. Javascript change page) after clearing the item from cache.
All of these tests were run with Windows XP-Pro (all service packs and updates applied).
I can find no clear specification as to what ''should'' happen with pages using animated gifs that are already loaded.
    * I can conceive of rationales for always displaying with animation.
    * I can also conceive of rationales for sometimes displaying the last frame, especially if the same page is being reloaded since many sites reload the same page in response to user form submissions.
    # '''I can see no rationale for displaying the first frame of the gif and would suggest that this is a bug. '''

    Can be this bug:

  • Putting animated gifs in a Fireworks layout: What is the deal?

Ok I have scoured the help files.
Im not finding what I need to know.
I want to create a Fireworks layout with 10 squares that have photos in them that fade back and forth between one image and another, slowly.
I would imagine I can pull this off with animated Gifs.
Thing is, I can not figure out how to pull this off in Fireworks.
Do I slice up my layout and make each photo square a symbol, then give it a different state and tween between them?
And if so, how do you control that?
Or do I make animated gifs in Photoshop and drop them into Fireworks?
I tried this and the gif came in with 40 states and the animation looked ridiculously bad. Not smooth and way to slow.
Is there a decent video tut on how to make animations in Fireworks.
I havent found it yet (nothing on Adobe TV oddly)
I have a feeling this shouldnt be that difficult but so far, it is.
I also want to have a rollover in the same layout.
Is this asking too much of Fireworks?

Well, some time ago I also thought: Why not create a set of very complicated animated GIFs (using Fireworks, of course;-) and connect them to the HTML/CSS layer of the web design, and thus do with html/css and images things that are only possible with Flash and/or adavanced AJAX scripting.
I soon realised that this is not possible -- and in certain cases, not needed at all. Animated GIFs (+ an HTML/CSS layer) cannot substitute AJAX scripting or Flash.
Even more: Even if in some cases you can achieve a certain effect using only animated GIFs, this will be at the cost of very poor browser performance! Reason? Animated GIFs slow down browser performance, and a lot. Flash does not slow down performance in browsers so much. JavaScript doesn't slow down performance so much, too (although it depends).
Example: Put 100 animated GIF images inside one simple html page and watch your browser slow down terribly. Put 500, and it will maybe even crash!   Even simple GIF animations sometimes slow can be seen to slow down when starting, and then at some point, their speed goes back to normal. And that's just one example...
In some cases, Flash is the correct answer to your questions. Well, I don't like Flash much, too, but for certain tasks there are certain tools.
Using very complicated animated GIFs instead of Flash is like using a set of 60 spoons instead one simple shovel... :-)
    Just my 2 cents...
PS I don't create Flash content, but in the worst case, I can ask a fellow developer to help me...
PPS I would have created a demo with very complex Fireworks GIF animations only for the sake of pure art/pushing Fw to the limits; never in production:)

  • GetURL Javascript Animated Gif and IE

Do you know why when calling a JavaScript function
from inside the Flash using the getURL(),
the animated gifs stop looping ?
    for example:
    on (rollOver) {
getURL("javascript: alert('after this the gifs will stop
    animate...');");
    }

so no one else is having this problem?

  • Reseting animated GIF ?

I want to use animated gifs as MouseOver in rollover buttons.

first time I do the MouseOver. - the anim gifs in the Mouse over
state are set with an end state- not looping. I want the sequense
to restart every time I have a MouseOut and then go back with
    MouseOver.
I get this to work if i dont put in preload images as default

how to solwe this problem ??
    Greetings from Sweden !

whether an animated gif replays is a browser preference
    setting. There's
nothing you can do in html to control it afaik.
many browsers have this setting at something like "play once"

  • Open and edit animated .gif while preserving frame timing

CS4 Premium Design Edition, Win XP
I was disappointed with the removal of Image Ready from CS3 because although some of the functionality was placed into Photoshop 10, there was no way to open and edit an existing animated .gif while preserving the timing of each individual frame. I was told on the PS forum at the time that I really needed to use Fireworks. I resented that, because I was very happy with Image Ready and I didn't want to have to learn a new application just to gain functionality that had been included in previous versions of PS/IM.
I've now got CS4 Premium Design Edition which of course includs Fireworks... and here's what Help has to say on the subject of imported .gifs.
"Note: When you import an animated GIF, the state delay setting defaults to 0.07 seconds. If necessary, use the States panel to restore the original timing."
This is no use to me. What if I don't know the individual frame timings? What if there are 200 frames with varying timings?
Simple question: which current Adobe product is capable of importing a .gif while retaining the frame timings? If anyone knows, or if I've misunderstood the nature of the Fireworks Help quote above, I'd really appreciate some input here. Thanks :)
Not so simple question: why was an excellent gif-editing application thrown out to have its functionality partially replaced by a bunch of scripts and half-effective workarounds cooked up by desperate users ("import a gif by using the video import and typing *.* into the filename box..")? It's a fair question I think.
    Mark

Hi Bob, that's not glib at all, it's a reasonable question.
I uninstalled it along with everything else when I installed CS3, in the reasonable expectation that whatever replaced IR would be at least equal in functionality.
Perhaps I should just dig out CS2 and install IM from there, but I have some serious reservations about doing so, because I don't know if/how a partial install of CS2 will impact upon my installation of CS4, and I'm not confident of getting support.
I am also curious to know if/why Adobe actually removed basic functionality without replicating or replacing it in their other software. I really want to know: which recent, currently supported Adobe product
should I be using in order to regain this functionality? Or do Adobe no longer produce a geniuinely comprehensive .gif-editing application?

  • Animated GIF ignoring frame timing

I am trying to create simple animated GIFs with a few layers
of text that simply fade in and fade out in sequence. My initial
attempt worked perfectly. Most frames use the default 7/100's of a
second delay as they fade. A few frames were manually set to much
longer delays so that the text pauses, before fading out to be
    replaced by the next text.
When I reopened the file, to adjust the background color, and
then re-saved it, the GIF now plays straight through, ignoring the
timing of each frame. Nothing I do now can get it to pause on the
appropriate frames. I've tried cutting the symbols out and pasting
them into a new file, removing the animation from the symbols and
    reapplying it, etc.
    Any ideas, anyone?
    Thanks in advance.
