Animated GIF Fix?

With the recent releases of KN 4.0.2, OS 10.5.2 and the Graphics update today, I was hoping that Keynote would better handle transparency in animated GIF images. I haven't seen any change but am wondering if anyone else has been able to get transparent GIF animations to work?
Thanks,
Chris

I'm having this same problem. Animated GIFs with transparency look fine in Safari or Preview, but have an opaque background in Keynote 4.0.1.
People have suggested using Flash, but Keynote doesn't allow importation SWF files that I can see.
And I can't figure out how to generate PNG-video, which a poster suggested in answer to an archived version of this same problem.
If anyone knows a workaround, I'm all ears!

  • Will there ever be a fix for Animated Gifs  OS 10.5.8

    I realize this extremely stupid bug which has/had been around for many years was apparently fixed in 10.6, but that upgrade is simply not an option for me (as, 10.6 will not install on this machine.)
    the problem is very well known (and many years old): loading a simple animated gif, even very small files, causes Safari to beachball while the gif is downloading (this can take over a minute even for a file under 250k). it should be almost instant (like it is in Firefox)
    this was never a problem using older OS and older versions of Safari (even very large animated gifs loaded very quickly and did not affect system performance.)
    this problem does not exist (and never did exist) in Firefox. i can load animated gif as expected, and very quickly under firefox.
    why did apple refuse to fix this? why do they continue to refuse? it worked fine, and then apple broke it. and it seems like they are leaving it broken on purpose.

    HI,
    Empty the Safari Cache from the Safari Menu Bar more often.
    Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
    Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.

  • Problem saving animated gif

    Hello!
    Just for fun i was planning to edit a animated football tackle gif. I was planning to remove the player who tackle in each and every frame of the animated gif. So it would take some time to finish.
    I have successfully opened the gif in CS6 via import Video Frames to Layers.
    It consists of 72 layers and i have tried to fix 10 of them just to see how it roughly would look like.
    My problem comes when I try to save and render the GIF (via save for WEB).
    The 10 first frames of my gif only shows one freezing frame, and then it shows the rest from 11-72 without any problems.
    What am i doing wrong, since my edited layers don't show up in the final GIF?

    Right on! Easy solution.
    First, the reason your first 10 frames are not changing is because each of those frames shows the same layer (Layer 1).
    In your layers panel, you have Layer 1 set to visible and all the other layers are invisible. That's good for Frame 1, but for frame 2 you'll want to make Layer 2 the visible one.
    Click on Frame 2 in your Timeline panel and then check the eyeball icon to make Layer 2 visible! Do the same for Frame 3/Layer 3, Frame 4/Layer 4, etc. until you get to the end of the animation!
    To address the second problem, the option for Make Frames from Layers is greyed out because you already have frames in your timeline.
    Go to your Timeline panel and select all the frames and delete them.
    Then select all your layers in the Layer panel, right-click and choose Make Frames from Layers... you should be able to click on it once your Timeline is cleared. It will automatically create frames that go from Layer 1 to your last layer (so, you wouldn't have to do it manually like above ^).
    Either way should take care of your problem! Please let me know if this works for you!!
    Cheers,
    Michael

  • Viewing Animated GIF files in Preview

    Hello...
    I'm trying to figure out why I cannot view animated GIF files within Preview. When I search within Preview's help I get this...
    *1. Open the animated GIF file in Preview.*
    *2. If the window's drawer isn't already visible, choose View > Drawer.*
    *The drawer contains a thumbnail image for the animated GIF. The number of frames in the animation appears in the lower-right corner.*
    *3. Click the triangle beside the thumbnail image.*
    *Preview shows all the frames in the animated GIF. When you click a frame, the animation stops and Preview displays that frame.*
    Now at the end of number 3 it states that "the animation stops", so according to that statment Preview should be "playing" the animation until I click a certain frame to stop it. Well mine doesn't do this, SO what's going on?
    Oh, my OS is v10.4.10 and Preview is v3.0.9(409).
    Thanks!

    Preview in Panther did play animated gifs, although it was a bit clunky at it. Evidently they intended to fix this in Tiger, but instead they ended up breaking it completely. To play an animated gif you now need to do so in a browser, such as Safari. Preview no longer plays them at all.

  • Question on Animated GIF Timing

    I have a weather-type animated GIF, and believe me, it is not
    my choice or
    idea, but anyway I need to get this working.
    Here it is:
    http://www.sendto.org/temp/weather-cvia.gif.
    In this animation, all the frames are set to 100 but the
    timing is not
    smooth. No idea why. When I change frame 2 to 50, the timing
    seems to me
    to be closer to even, but it makes no sense to cut the time
    on frame 2 to
    have all frames display for equal time. Is anyone else seeing
    this?
    The source file is here:
    http://www.sendto.org/temp/weather-cvia.png
    Many thanks,
    Tony

    Hi Anthony:
    Are you testing the playback in a browser? The FW playback -
    at one time
    anyway - was not a reliable method for previewing.
    Have you checked to make sure there are not several frames
    identical to
    frame 2 in the animation? That too would give the impression
    that frame
    2 is staying up longer.

  • Animated GIF's aren't animated.

    Now this is probably a simple problem to fix, but it is really bugging the crap out of me. Whenever I try to open an animated GIF, it simply sits at the first frame. This also happens in Preview, and it's very discouraging because I deal with a lot of animated GIF's, and it's a huge hassle to have to travel between my OSX and Windows partitions just to manage my photos. Any ideas?

    I have a similar problem:
    We have some animated gifs on www.scbadasscoffee.com...they ARE working from computers from home. One computer is in an office at the shop sees everything fine...using current Firefox and Safari...we have 4 computers for the public...somewhere in the last weeks they stopped being able to view the animated GIFS. Any ideas on what happened, what to look for or ???

  • Animated GIF transparency in Muse

    I am using Adobe Muse CC 2014 and am interested in placing either a transparent animated .GIF image or an Adobe Edge Animate CC 2104 transparent .OAM image on top of
    an image in the <body> section. Placing the Adobe Edge Animate .oam image results in a NON-TRANSPARENT background, even though the same background when
    creating/saving/viewing the .html image in Adobe Edge Animate  displays as transparent.
    I created an animation with a transparent background in both Adobe Photoshop CC 2104 and Fireworks CS6, saving the file as an animated .gif. In both applications, the
    background is again, transparent. Placing either of those animated .gif images on top of a <body> background image (.jpg) results in a white stroke/outline around the
    non-transparent part of the animated .gif.
    All help would be greatly appreciated for enabling either an Adobe Edge Animate .oam image with a transparent background, or an animated .gif file with a transparent
    background to be placed on top of a <body> image in Adobe Muse WITHOUT a stroke/outline of any color. Either the steps to make this happen OR a temporary
    workaround would be terrific!
    NOTE: The stroke of the image has been set to NONE in Adobe Muse to remove this option as a variable.
    Thanks,
    Prefix

    I appreciate your reply. The problem, in this case, did not lie with Photoshop or Fireworks - both of which were used in the creation of the animated images. In both
    applications, adding a darker background (just for testing purposes) shows no white outline. As it turned out, the problem was due to the nature of saving (in this case)
    a .gif from either a .png file (native to Fireworks), or from a .psd file (Photoshop, of course). The .gif supports transparency, but only at greater than 50%. Anything at 50% or
    less (as would occur with anti-aliasing or feathering, for example) will resolve to white. Since there was feathering (and anti-aliasing) for both the transparent characters
    as well as the outer edge of the sphere, saving the file as an animated .gif caused the white outline to appear.
    The GOOD news is that there is a solution to the problem. I created a file with the animated images 3X larger than the final size. When the image was reduced
    in Adobe Muse to the desired size, the white outlines disappeared, leaving me with what I intended as an image from the beginning.
    Thanks all who replied and ultimately helped to determine first the cause of the white outlines, and then a way to "fix" the problem.
    All of your help is greatly appreciated.

  • I am having major issues importing Animated gif's into Adobe Captivate

    Hi everyone
    Captivate 7 (64 bit) keeps crashing when i import animate gifs into flash.
    It's a serious workflow issue for us as the project requires animated gifs.
    I don't have any files to supply for this query as i can't even import gif's into a blank doc.
    Has any one found a solution for this issue ?
    Adobe ??  Have you got a fix for this bug ?
    Thanks in advance
    Nick

    How were the GIF's created? Which version of 7 do you use, you can see the complete version number under Help, About Captivate.
    I have been using animated GIF's in 7, they were created with Photoshop. And I know that each frame in the animation has to have a duration that is not 0secs.

  • Animated gif frame count & fps

    How do I find out details of an animated gif? I need to know the number of images in a strip, and also the frame rate. I would like to convert the strip to a BufferedImage for animation.

    See http://www.fmsware.com/stuff/gif.html for a free decoder.
    It will give you a frame count, and return each frame as a BufferedImage. It will also tell you the duration of each frame (animated GIF's don't have a fixed frame rate).

  • Photoshop elements 10 animated gifs show one layer only

    I don't like this new version of photoshop elements (photoshop elements 10). When I try to edit an animated gif file, it says I can only view one layer and the rest will be lost. Why is this?

    Known issue. This is actually because Photoshop CSx used a GIF plug-in that didn't support opening GIF files as layers. That same plug-in was sent over to PSE in version 9. You can get the plug-in from earlier versions to fix this:
    Can't open animated GIF files as layers | Photoshop Elements 9 | Windows

  • Animated gif in photoshop

    Hi
    I'm running Photoshop 7 on a MacBook Pro. I previously used photoshop on a PC.
    I created an animation using layers, and saved it as an optimised gif. However, when I tired to upload it to MySpace it would load: error message said it was an unsupported format.
    I didn't have this problem before on the PC - any ideas what is different or how I can fix it?
    THanks
    Seamus

    Hi, my apologies if that sounded condescending. Indeed I'm getting the same error as you do when trying to upload animated gif files created in either PS CS2 or IR CS2. I don't know what this site's problem is, because my gifs run in any browser. I have found that myspace accepts a gif file only when I open it in Safari and drag it from the browser window to the desktop first. Go figure.
    I know it's annoying to have to open every gif file in Safari and drag it from the browser to the desktop, but at least it works this way.
    It might just be some optimization setting in IR, although I wouldn't know what.
    Good luck

  • Animated Gif Repaint

    I knew I was going to end up here eventually, stupid animated gifs.
    First of all, I get weird drawing artifacts on an animated gif on jkd 1.5, I upped this to 1.6 and everything is cool with displaying the gif. It could be because I'm running JBuilder in a XP VM. I don't really care how to fix this, or if its even fixable, I'm just pointing it out.
    I have an animated gif in an imageicon. The program is hangman, and the gif shows a stick figure walking up onto the podium to get hung. I would like to play the gif once, every time the "New Game" button is clicked. I have tried a variety of things to do so, including JLabel1.repaint(); calling the label again, etc, etc. I'll try to post the relevant bits of my code.
    public class HangFrame
        extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
      public HangFrame()
        try {
          jbInit();
        catch (Exception ex) {
          ex.printStackTrace();
      }jbinit calls the placement of all the items.
        jLabel1.setBounds(new Rectangle(19, 57, 550, 400));
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
        if (e.getSource() == start) {
          start();
    ....'start' is my name for the button that reads "New Game".
    The start method contains:
    ImageIcon maingif = new ImageIcon( (ClassLoader.getSystemResource(
            "hang1.gif")));
         jLabel1.setIcon(maingif);
    //I've been trying different stuff right here, like repaint.The image displays correctly, and runs once (per the setting I gave it in flash, or thats how java does it).
    I've searched extensively (seems I got lucky by just managing to get it to display once :D). I saw that I might have to flush the image or something like that, but I'm not really sure what that means. I've never had any experience with the graphics and paint component, most of the work we do in class is console and algorithm stuff. I got bored over break and made my hangman into a swing app. I'd appreciate any help.
    Oh, and sorry if this should be in the swing subforum, I figured my issue was too basic for it.

  • Animated gif rollovers

    I'm having a problem with animated gif in dreamweaver. I set
    it up so that when I mouse over a button a gif plays then when I
    mouse off of it another gif plays to restore the page to it's
    original look. Basically an image moves from one side of the screen
    to the other then on mouse off goes back to it's original position.
    The problem I'm having is that it only works once. Once I've moused
    over the button it plays the gif then when I mouse off it plays the
    second gif to put it back to the original look but then if I mouse
    over the button again it doesn't work anymore. If I hit reload it
    will then work again but only once. The gif is set to play once
    from image ready as opposed to forever because I want it to play
    and then stop but I want it to play and then stop each time I roll
    over the button not just the first time. Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks for any help.

    Never-mind. I have it working properly now.

  • Animated .gif has dither on bitmaps even if disabled

    I'm trying to create an animated .gif from Flash Pro.
    I set from Publish window to export a animated .gif with Smooth, with a custom Palette made in Photoshop (because default palette settings generate an awful result...) and with Dither set to none.
    The problem is that the reuslting .swf is perfet but the .gif has background bitmaps (bitmaps with no transparency, positioned below bitmaps with transparency) dithered with any setting I tried, the only mode I've found to remove the dither is to replace the bitmap with a vector image made in Flash.
    I already set the bitmaps as loseless png/gif, not jpg.
    I'm on CS5.5, anyone has a fix for this bug or a suggestion?

    Hi Jean
    I'm guessing that the palette solution offered by P_SJ
    doesn't apply to FireWorks? I'm not a FireWorks user, so I'm really
    not sure what that means. Other than perhaps referring to what I
    know as a transparent background color.
    Maybe try setting a background color to what your background
    is in Captivate?

  • Problem to create animated gif using transparent frames

    Hi, everyone:
    My name is Edison, I am playing with Gif89Encoder utility classes to make an animated gif which is a requirement for my course work.
    I got some problem about the transparent frames. I used the png image as the frame to create the animated gif,
    those pngs have transparent colors and the background is totally transparent, when i create the animated the gif with those
    frames, the animated gif display the colors but without transparency for those colors, but the background is transparent as expected.
    I am not sure if I should IndexGif89Frame or DirectGif89Frame for the colors from the Gif89encoder package.

    Is there anyone got the same problem and knows how to fix it?
    The following is how i setup the colors in my png file, the alpha channel is 80.
    Color[] colours = new Color[7];
              colours[0] = new Color(255, 255, 255, 0);
              colours[1] = new Color(128, 128, 255, 80);
              colours[2] = new Color(128, 0, 128, 80);
              colours[3] = new Color(0, 128, 128, 80);
              colours[4] = new Color(128, 128, 0, 80);
              colours[5] = new Color(204,102,255,80);
              colours[6] = new Color(255, 0, 0, 80);The code i did to generate gif:
    public void run89Gif()
            Image[] images = new Image[4];
            try{
                images[0] = ImageIO.read(new File("D:/temp/0.png"));
                images[1] = ImageIO.read(new File("D:/temp/1.png"));
                images[2] = ImageIO.read(new File("D:/temp/2.png"));
                images[3] = ImageIO.read(new File("D:/temp/3.png"));
                OutputStream out = new FileOutputStream("D:/temp/output.gif");
                writeAnimatedGIF(images,"Empty annotation", true, 1, out);
                images = null;
            }catch(IOException er){ }
    static void writeAnimatedGIF(
            Image[] still_images,
                String annotation,
                boolean looped,
                double frames_per_second,
                OutputStream out) throws IOException
            Gif89Encoder gifenc = new Gif89Encoder();
            for (int i = 0; i < still_images.length; ++i){
               gifenc.addFrame(still_images);
    gifenc.setComments(annotation);
    gifenc.setLoopCount(looped ? 0 : 1);
    gifenc.setUniformDelay((int) Math.round(100 / frames_per_second));
    gifenc.encode(out);
    Thanks in advance.
