Animated GIF starts with rollover

Hello! I want an animated gif to start when I roll over it. I
tried this with a swap image, using the "still" version of the
first frame and then setting the swap image to be an animated gif
file (set directly under the still image. Doesn't seem to work..
should I be able to do this?

Export the animation first, and then use it as the image you
swap in.
Uncheck the preload images function in the swap image editor
to force
the animation to begin playing onMouseOver.

  • Animated GIF as a rollover?

I need to have an animated GIF be the rollover image for a button. However, when I insert the 'up' image for the button, and naming the aminated GIF as the "over" part, it doesn't play it as an animation since an animated GIF must be added as an animation, not as an image. Is there a way to do this?

Yes, Captivate 7. I'm re-working an old Dreamweaver HTML CBT program to bring it up to today's standards using Captivate. I previously had small cartoon hands pointing to the right or left to click to go to the next or previous slide. The pointing hands are static, but on rollover I had an animated gif of the pointing hand moving in the direction it pointed. I'm certain I can figure out a workaround, just wanted to see if there was a built-in way to have an animation be the 'over' state.

  • Animated gif on multiple rollover buttons ?

I want to use animated gifs as MouseOver in rollover buttons.
Somehow when I put this together the animation only works for the
first time I do the MouseOver. - the anim gifs are not looping I
want them to restart every time I have a MouseOut and MouseOver.
I get this to work if i dont put in preload images as default
but then I will have problems with delays instead. Do anyone know
how to solwe this problem in an easy simple to explane kind of way

  • Can't open animated GIF, even with secret trick (psd cs3)

    Hi
I know a lot of people have had trouble with opening animated .gifs in photoshop cs3. I had that problem until I learned the little "trick" you could do (type *.* in "import video frames to layers") and then simply open the gif. This has worked one my computer for some time, but then all of a sudden it stopped working. I thought it was odd and then I formatted my computer and installed a few windows updates and then installed adobe photoshop cs3 and then quicktime. But it still won't open GIF as it used to do. And it's very odd, as my laptop can do it (and it has just been newly reformatted too). I know Adobe's own solution, which is to use fireworks, but I find it to be a crappy program, so I'm not going to use that. I want to be able to import GIFs into photoshop as I used to :/
Hope someone has encountered this problem too. I know a lot of people had been able to use the trick, but I havn't been able to find anyone who has the crash problem.
    Know of this?

sounds like you might have a conflict with QuickTime, seeing as the error is in MODNAME quicktime.qts
first, try resetting the PS prefs. hold CTRL+ALT+SHIFT on launch and then click Yes when prompted. if you have any preferences that you would prefer not to reset, close PS, move the preference files, then launch PS to create new ones. if it's not the problem, you can put them back later. Use the info in kb401600 if you don't know where the preference files are.
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb401600
if resetting the prefs doesn't fix it, make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime installed (7.4.5) and that it can launch without problems. if you have problems using QT, let us know or post on Apple discussions to find a solution.
if you do have the latest version and the problem recently started, it may be that Apple broke something that PS uses in a recent update. uninstall the version you have, delete /program files/quicktime/ folder if it still exists, reboot, download an older version (apple has archived installers; search for "download quicktime 7.3.1 windows" OR "download quicktime 7.1.6 windows" on google to find it), then install it and reboot before trying PS.

  • Animated Gif - Problem with Frame Delay

    Mac OS X 10.5.8
    PSE 6.0
I just created an animated gif by following the steps in PSE Help.  It says that I should be able to adjust the rate at which the images rotate by changing the Frame Delay measurement but I am unable to change it.  In fact I am unable to change anything in the Animation section of the dialog box.
When I check Animation, the options appear to become active (they're no longer greyed out) but I can neither uncheck the Loop option nor change the Frame Delay option.  All other sections of the dialog box work fine.
Your help would be most appreciated!
    Beth

Unfortunately this is broken in PSE 6 and PSE 8. You can tab into the frame delay box if you start above it someplace on that side of the screen, and it appears to let you change the rate, but your choice doesn't really affect the actual frame rate. The only workaround is to duplicate frame layers that you want to stay onscreen longer (so it will be changing just as fast, but not visibly).

  • Placing a animated GIF pic with .Mac mail

Hello, I am a pretty experienced user and cannot find a way to attach an animated GIF to my email. I use .Mac mail and downloaded a program to make animated pictures. The only program I can animate my pics in is Text Edit. I did a thorough search and could not find an answer. Any help will be appreciated. Many thanks.

Please help me, I don't ask many questions. I answer more than I ask,

  • Possible to Use Animated GIF as Rollover Image?

Before I spend a lot of time on development...does anyone
know if it's possible to use an animated GIF as a rollover image in
Captivate? I'm developing an e-Learning course for a
Sarbannes-Oxley application, and I want to be able to hover over an
object, then have a rollover graphic describe the hover target in
more detail...the catch being that I want the description to look
    like a scrolling stock ticker.
I'm sure Flash is probably the ideal development environment
for this idea, but that project is way beyond my Flash skills at
    this point...
    Thanks!

I know you can load and display a PNG image just the way you do for a GIF/JPEG one :
ImageIcon myIcon = new ImageIcon("my_icon.png");but I don't think many others formats are recognized by j2se... you can simply try to load a BMP file to find out.

  • Opening animated gif in PSE 8 for Mac

I am switching from PSE for PC to PSE 8 for Mac.
I have always been able to open animated gif as layers and work with them, then resave as an updated animated gif.
WIth PSE 8 for Mac, I get a pop up that the file is animated and can only see the top frame. Any ideas on how to open up all of the frames in layers?

Do I need to enable this process for my Mac? Maybe I'm missing a plug-in or update?
I have been opening these files from others, tweeking and resaving for almost 2 years in PSE. It definitely will not shuffle the individual panels on an animated gif into the layers box.
My tweeking usually involves adjusting frame speed. Is that what you mean by 'frame rate'?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Animated GIF transparency in Muse

I am using Adobe Muse CC 2014 and am interested in placing either a transparent animated .GIF image or an Adobe Edge Animate CC 2104 transparent .OAM image on top of
an image in the <body> section. Placing the Adobe Edge Animate .oam image results in a NON-TRANSPARENT background, even though the same background when
creating/saving/viewing the .html image in Adobe Edge Animate  displays as transparent.
I created an animation with a transparent background in both Adobe Photoshop CC 2104 and Fireworks CS6, saving the file as an animated .gif. In both applications, the
background is again, transparent. Placing either of those animated .gif images on top of a <body> background image (.jpg) results in a white stroke/outline around the
non-transparent part of the animated .gif.
All help would be greatly appreciated for enabling either an Adobe Edge Animate .oam image with a transparent background, or an animated .gif file with a transparent
background to be placed on top of a <body> image in Adobe Muse WITHOUT a stroke/outline of any color. Either the steps to make this happen OR a temporary
    workaround would be terrific!
NOTE: The stroke of the image has been set to NONE in Adobe Muse to remove this option as a variable.
    Thanks,
    Prefix

I appreciate your reply. The problem, in this case, did not lie with Photoshop or Fireworks - both of which were used in the creation of the animated images. In both
applications, adding a darker background (just for testing purposes) shows no white outline. As it turned out, the problem was due to the nature of saving (in this case)
a .gif from either a .png file (native to Fireworks), or from a .psd file (Photoshop, of course). The .gif supports transparency, but only at greater than 50%. Anything at 50% or
less (as would occur with anti-aliasing or feathering, for example) will resolve to white. Since there was feathering (and anti-aliasing) for both the transparent characters
as well as the outer edge of the sphere, saving the file as an animated .gif caused the white outline to appear.
The GOOD news is that there is a solution to the problem. I created a file with the animated images 3X larger than the final size. When the image was reduced
in Adobe Muse to the desired size, the white outlines disappeared, leaving me with what I intended as an image from the beginning.
Thanks all who replied and ultimately helped to determine first the cause of the white outlines, and then a way to "fix" the problem.
All of your help is greatly appreciated.

  • Stepping an animated gif, one frame at a time?

Does anyone know how to do this?
I want my own timer to tell it when to paint the next frame.
What I really want is an "asynchronous progress indicator", in other words, an icon that animates as long as stuff is still making progress.

What I really want is an "asynchronous progress

For example you can decode GIFs using Java Decoder (http://www.gif4j.com/java-gif4j-pro-gif-image-load-decode.htm) and then modify delays between frames or even extract frames and animate them manually.

  • How can I edit an animated GIF?

is there a way to add a animated GIF into your work, when I try to add one I am told that it will be a single layer. I downloaded a GIF from the web and trying to incorparate it into a web site header.

Well, you are in luck, sort of. You have all the apps needed to create an animated gif. However that does not mean that the image you download was already or not. It could be a single image.
A couple of things to go over
    1) When downloading from the net make sure you have permission to use that image before sharing with the public, as the image is protected by copyright laws in the US. (Images that state - Permission to use commercially, copyright free, common law licence - Generally are meant to share with the general public, granted that you post somewhere who you got the image from(the Least anyone can do it give credit where credit is due)
2)Since you have the Master Collection or the CS4 Master Suite, you have every app that is need to create your own works of art. Photoshop, After Effects, Premeire pro are all capable of creating animated gifs. With the latter two being easier than photoshop.
Since you have CS4 photoshop and this is the photoshop forum, we will keep it there.
The version of Photoshop that comes in the master suite is the extended version of photoshop which is require for most of the animations it can do. Though, think and am not certain that the standard version can create animated gif files.
OK, ok we got a lot of mumbo jumbo above so lets get into how to create an animated gif.
First we need to determine if we are editing an animated gif or creating one from scratch. To load an animated gif all you need to do is file>open then select the file. Simple enough.
The file will place each frame onto its own layer and if you have the animation panel open (If not select Windows>Animation ) Each frame will be placed there as well.
Lets say we are going to edit a frame or better yet introduce a new frame. In the upper right hand corner of the animation panel is a small icon. Clicking it will pop up a menu. In that menu select delete animation. Don't worry your layers are safe, it only removes the frames from the animation panel.
Now you can either change something in one of the layers or add a layer where you want the frame intoduced.
When you are done you can select that same icon in the animation panel to pop up the menu and select Make frames from layers This will place all the layers back into the animation panel. This has to happen in order to save an animated gif.
You can now use the File>save to web or File>Save to web and devices (This optiuon changed during one of the version, I don't recall so both are listed or look for something close to that)
Select Gif for the format then the save button, where you can choose a location and file name. It will automatically add a hyphen between any words that normally are spaces for the web.
OK, If you read the above, you probably alread realize how to create one from scratch. Just add a new layer for each frame and follow the steps above to add it to the animation panel and save for web.
I know it sounds like a lot, but once you have done it a few times, it actually fairly simple.
OK, Bonus round - What about After Effects and Premeire Pro?
Well both of those apps Use a timeline instead of frames. Which makes them much simpler and more powerful for animations, since that is what they are dedicated to do.
It is as simple as open the gif file, edit it, save it, done.
I won't go into how the timeline works as that would require a long , long post. But once you understand it, it is much quicker and can do way more feature wise.
One last thing, play around with it and see what it can do before commiting time to creating or editing a gif. It goes much easier once you get the hang of it.
If you have any questions, issues, etc. just post away...
Well, I got to go, I hope this helps.

  • Why animated gif not working in webpage designed in fireworks?

    Hi,
I have 2 questions. Pl. consider me a novice in this field, started just 2 days ago.
    1. I have designed a website page in fireworks cs5, I have added an animated gif in the page and when I preview in browser or export the webpage.png the animated gif's background color is only shown and no animation takes place.  Where as when I run the gif file only in web browser it shows animation. Why the animation doesn't show in the website. However, when i change the selection to "animated gif websnap128" at the bottom of the screen, then every element of the whole webpage alongwith the animated gif start doing animation, that is everyelement changes (animate) from state 1 to state 2 contineously.
other question is in new thread.
    thanks for your help.

The animation needs to be in a seperate slice.

  • Fireworks CS4 animated gif - ghosting - Help Please!

I have creadted a skyscrapper ad using Frieworks with a gradient on the background. When it is played on a PC (I use a Mac), there is ghosting of the text. Does anyone know how to get rid of this? It looks fine on my Mac. When I save as an animated gif, I select dither to make the gradient look smoother. Help! Please!

    Hi,
Animated gif backgrounds with gradient would definitely look ghosted or distorted because of the way GIF images are generated. Take a look at the solution suggested in this tutorial http://www.smartwebby.com/free_tutorials/website-design-how-to/GIFs-optimization.asp - I think using the Exact setting might make your Animated GIF with gradients smoother.

If you select "File" , "Save as previos version"
I have attached a screen shot. Or do you require them to be saved in 8.0 as you do not have 8.2 ?

I recently purchased iwork 8. I have been using 6 and have used a lot of animated GIF files with a clear or transparent background. This has always worked well with 6 but with 8 the GIFs show up with a white box background. They place and play the way they always have but there is this white box behind. I have even tried opening an old presentation with 8 where the GIFs had a clear background and they show up with the box also. I have called Apple support but they don't have any answers.
