  • Trouble creating an animated gif in Photoshop

Hello. I am having trouble creating a gif in Photoshop (using still images). I get as far as the step where you click the dropdown menu on the top right of the timeline screen (following multiple online tutorials) and don't see the option to "create new layer for each new frame". I get completely different options and none of them seem to be right. I am using Photoshop CC 2014 and am completely udated. Can anyone HELP?
Here is an example of a tutorial I followed (many say the same thing)
I get stuck at step 5:

Here is a screenshot of what I see, Argh!!!
Can anyone help? Thank you in advance!

With a document open in Photoshop CC 2014 use menu Window>Timeline to display the Timeline palette. In it you will see a button with a pull-down menu in the center.  The button can create a Frame Animation timeline or a Video  Timeline.  You want to create an Frame animation.  The Palette also has a fly-out menu opened by clicking the little down pointing triangle in its upper right corner.  There are some useful options in it. For example you can create two frames from some layers you have then have Photoshop create frames between them using the tween option. Then save out a PSD,  a Animated Gif and render a MP4.

  • Animated .gif files

I have been using an older version of Photoshop Elements for a long time but just got a new MacPro and decided it's time to upgrade my PSE.  But maybe not....I downloaded the Photoshop Elements Trial version to check out if it's really worth upgrading or not and I think I'm in trouble. I have a ton of animated .gif files and they do not appear to open in the familiar "layers".  i read through some of these discussion threads and I think you're saying that if I use the current version of Photoshop Elements I will not be able to edit my old .gif files.  I did try making new layered files and save them for the web with animation and that seemed to work.  But if I'm going to lose the ability to edit my old .gif files I'm not sure I want to upgrade.
Can someone clarify this for me please.  Maybe it's just a matter of switching from Elements to CS4, but I thought from the descriptions of the programs as provided in the Products section that I fit more with the Elements program.....maybe not????
And this does not even consider that I haven't tried to load my older version on the new intel machine yet, it may not even run if I try that.
I do, for about 20% of my computing time use "that other" platform, but I don't like it, I much prefer my wonderful Mac machines.
    thanks for your help

Thank you for your offer, I do appreciae it.  But I think the better question to ask at this point is :  What is the last version of Photoshop Elements that supports editing animated gif files.  This is too important to me to lose this ability and after checking further I see CS4 is out of my price and needed features range. I would rather hang on to my old laptop to manipulate photos than lose the ability to edit my .gif files.

  • Animated gif not moving, image.animation_mode already set to Normal

    ''dupe of - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/932846 - locking''
With image.animation_mode already set to Normal, animated gif are not moving, it seems only the first frame is downloaded. I tried downloading the image, it also seems that only the first frame is downloaded. Then I disabled all extensions, the problem persists. Then I use a whole new profile, there seems to be no problem.
The question is, is there another hidden settings in firefox which cause this trouble? I do not want to start a new profile just because of this. (It also happens in Firefox version 13)

Do you see the animation if you check the image in Tools > Page Info > Media or open the image directly in a tab?
Some security software (firewall) can block animated images and send a normal image instead, so can try to check the advanced settings for Firefox in the firewall if the problem isn't in Firefox.

  • Does iOS Support Animated GIF's?

Do animated GIF's play on the iPod or iPhone in mobile Safari by default? I know Flash won't & want to make a decision on best way to put a simple animation into a web site. If not any suggestions on what format best to make animations?

    @DarenG
I wasn't offended Daren. I do see an awful lot of questions here where it is the same simple thing asked over and over again and many cases where the questioner is simply not seeing how they are the root of their own problem or are not looking in the logical place. Wyodor has answered other questions for me in the past and I know he is very helpful to a lot of people. In my case I was expecting a simple "yes" or "no" yet he went to the trouble of posting an example. I really appreciate that.
    @JamesWard4
I am glad I didn't ask the "Flash" question but it was sort of related.

  • Activation of links to embedded ".kmz" and "Animated GIF" files.

I recently upgraded from Adobe Acrobat Pro X to Adobe Acrobat  Pro XI and noticed a slight difference on how documents linked in an Adobe Acrobat File are activated for display.
I have placed files I want to display in my Adobe Acrobat file as file attachments.  I then link to those files, so that the user can click on an icon area within the document and open the file in a new window.
After a little effort, I was able to make the correct links to .pdf file attachments, but ran into problems linking to and displaying files that utilize external applications to view the file.  If I was able to convert this file to a .pdf file, I could open it with no problem.
However, I am having trouble linking the following file types for display from file attachments already embedded in the Adobe Acrobat document file.
They are...Portable Network Graphic (PNG), Animated Graphic Interchange Format (GIF), and Keyhole Mark-up Language - Zipped (.KMZ)  and Microsoft Word (PPT) files.
The .pdf file was originally convered from a Microsoft Word file in which all of the links worked fine.
I thought I had the problem solved in Adobe Acrobat Pro X, but cannot seem to open the same files iin Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
    Would appreciate some guidance.

  • Using animated gif...

I've encountered a problem in displaying animated gif using java Swing.
For my program, I need to display 6 animated gif images. Sometimes I would get all those displayed, but sometimes only 1 or few are displayed.
This problem troubles me until I found that it is the problem of animated gif I've used, because I have tried to replace the animated gif to static ones then every time the images are all displayed.

  • Need help with publishing as animated .gif

I'm having trouble publishing my project as an animated .gif.  My project, which consists of two different animated movie clips, plays just fine when test it (Shift + Enter).  But, when I go to publish it, the animations don't show up.  The settings are exactly the same as with my other animated .gifs.
    Any suggestions???
    Thanks!

If you try to 'publish' as an app, and you use the words ebook or just book, the review teams are likely to reject and tell you to do a book instead, so be prepared to not call it any type of book and to deliver something that showcases the device and iOS as best as you can if you take that route...it's non-trivial, mostly, so be prepared to learn any skills you may not have yet need going in.
Look at the book 'Yellow Submarine' for what I consider a good example of a standard epub w/m'media. it can be done, but as noted, iBA is iPad only, so....good luck.

  • Exporting an swf as an animated .gif the correct way?

I have read all kinds of posts on this, most are old from back in the early 00's. I have some flash banners that I made that need .gif back ups and I find myself pretty screwed if I can't do this. I tried exporting an .swf thru the publishing settings in Flash and no matter which setting I choose the gifs are pixelated and very bad quality. I just finished reading a post where it said to use the file - export from the menu which I did use and the quality is much better but nothing near acceptable for the client. I also read to export the swf to Quicktime and QT can convert to animated gif so while I look at that option is there someone that can point me in the right direction as this could spell trouble for me if I cannot come up with a solution as I have multiple swfs that need to go through Google analyctics and need the gif back ups.
    thx
    rder

After spending hours losing my hair finding an answer, I found that there is no answer. reality is that Flash (at least CS3) has an export to gif feature but this is a waste as the gifs are horrible quality. Publishing as is no better so that closes the door doing it that way, so on and on I went searching and saw a post that Quicktime can do this, so I publish as a QT file and then export QT file (in QT) as an image sequence. It worked but it delivers each frame so the longer file you have the more frames. Useless to me, so in 2009 as far as I see there is NO WAY you can convert an swf to an animated .gif if you are on a Mac. Go ahead and search for OS X swf to .gif and you will see tons of misleading adds and then when you open each you see they are all .exe files and you know what that means!
So, thank god I have a pc as well and found about 100 apps all kinds from freeware to sharewrae that will convert swfs to animated gifs (IF YOU HAVE A PC)

  • Can't open animated GIF, even with secret trick (psd cs3)

    Hi
I know a lot of people have had trouble with opening animated .gifs in photoshop cs3. I had that problem until I learned the little "trick" you could do (type *.* in "import video frames to layers") and then simply open the gif. This has worked one my computer for some time, but then all of a sudden it stopped working. I thought it was odd and then I formatted my computer and installed a few windows updates and then installed adobe photoshop cs3 and then quicktime. But it still won't open GIF as it used to do. And it's very odd, as my laptop can do it (and it has just been newly reformatted too). I know Adobe's own solution, which is to use fireworks, but I find it to be a crappy program, so I'm not going to use that. I want to be able to import GIFs into photoshop as I used to :/
Hope someone has encountered this problem too. I know a lot of people had been able to use the trick, but I havn't been able to find anyone who has the crash problem.
    Know of this?

sounds like you might have a conflict with QuickTime, seeing as the error is in MODNAME quicktime.qts
first, try resetting the PS prefs. hold CTRL+ALT+SHIFT on launch and then click Yes when prompted. if you have any preferences that you would prefer not to reset, close PS, move the preference files, then launch PS to create new ones. if it's not the problem, you can put them back later. Use the info in kb401600 if you don't know where the preference files are.
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb401600
if resetting the prefs doesn't fix it, make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime installed (7.4.5) and that it can launch without problems. if you have problems using QT, let us know or post on Apple discussions to find a solution.
if you do have the latest version and the problem recently started, it may be that Apple broke something that PS uses in a recent update. uninstall the version you have, delete /program files/quicktime/ folder if it still exists, reboot, download an older version (apple has archived installers; search for "download quicktime 7.3.1 windows" OR "download quicktime 7.1.6 windows" on google to find it), then install it and reboot before trying PS.

  • Creating Animated Gifs in Illustrator?

In PS if you have a layered file, you can create an animated gif via SAVE FOR WEB AND DEVICES.
But it seems you can only create static gifs via SAVE FOR WEB AND DEVICES in Illustrator from layered files.
Please! Say that ain't so - that I'm missing some small detail that will allow me to do this same thing from Illustrator!!!!
    Many thanks in advance!

    Thanks so much Scott,
    You break my heart! ;(
Going via PS is tons of extra work. Uneccessary work! What happens is that for some strange reason, the layers come into PS weird. the icon for EACH layer is a folder AND a subfolder. So they have be flattened one by one and THEN turned into frames in the animation layer AND THEN saved as a gif. So what's perplexing me - is seeing the same SAVE FOR WEB AND DEVICE dialog box in Illustratore - yet it only saves static gifs.
Is it really true that i have to go through all these extra steps? Yikes! I wonder why Adobe would do that, and yet go through all the trouble to let you export swf's. It seems so very poorly planned by Adobe that i keep hoping someone will tell me I'm missing something - and that there's a way to do this from Illustrator.
But thank you so much for your help. I really do appreciate it.

  • Need Help creating an animated GIF in Photoshop CS6 Trail version

    Everyone,
I am new to PS6 and reating animated GIF's and would like to get some guidance.  I am trying
to put the following animation together and very confused when I try to get the section and also
how to add new things to it.  I am running the trial version of PS CS6 on a WIndoes 7 environment.
Trying to ensure that I can do the things I want prior to puchasing the product.
The following is what I want to do:
    1.     With the logo, have it be as if there is a spotlight moving back and forth at medium speed,
shining on the logo.  Wherever the light hits, have that section sparkle. That will be exquisite.
    2.     Have the "CLICK HERE," words alternate starkly (not blending) between white and pumpkin orange.
Again, medium speed. That will be garish, but is okay because it's not part of the designed section.
The file is attached.  I am having trouble trying to select just the "CLICK HERE" portion of the
logo to have the words alternating color.  I cannot figure out how to get a spotlight function to this logo.
Then how to have it sparkle when the spotlight hits the other section of the logo and not have the
spotlight going over to the "Click Here" part of the logo.
I could really use some direction on this and would appreciate it greatly.  Thanx in advance.
    Jerry

The banner does not have to be this large.  Here is a link to using the spotlight with sparkles:
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-5012713-285076/371-194/bannerA nimTest2.gif
Also, the spotlight should be just over the "CLICK HERE" section.  If the spotlight could apply in the diameter to the whole text of "Click Here". and use the sparkles,
that would be great and then I can break it out and see how it is done.  Again, it does not have to be this large, maybe a little larger the the size of the first one I posted
would be good.  Then how would I get it to a jpg and gif file?  Thanx in advance.

  • CS3 Animated GIFs display incorrectly in browsers.

I am having trouble getting animated GIFs to display correctly in web browsers. When I view the file in a browser, any browser, it displays extremely fast. I have tried exported the file as an animated gif from a slice, exporting as an animated gif, and saving the file (Save As) as an animated gif.
No matter what I have the frame rate set to in Fireworks it displays the same in browsers.
Anyone have any ideas on how to overcome this?
    Thanks in advance.

Change the Frame or State delay to a higher number in the Frame or State Panel.

  • Safari corrupt transparency in animated GIFs

I am running Safari 4.0.4 under Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on an iMac (mid-2007) and am having issues with animated gifs on websites displaying with fringes of mis-coloured pixels where they should be transparent.
Annoyingly, the issues are intermittent. I can find a bad GIF, see mis-coloured pixels, refresh the cache and sometimes it will be fine, sometimes it will show mis-coloured pixels again but in different places and colours.
Here are two screenshots of the issue. I have cropped the GIF, zoomed it 200% and saved it static for you to see the problem.
    Example 1 : http://www.dcoffey.co.uk/images/BadGif1.jpg
This was supposed to be an animated GIF of the Scottish flag and about every 2s (which is the length of the animation), the border of mis-coloured pixels flashes off then back again.
    Example 2 : http://www.dcoffey.co.uk/images/BadGif2.jpg
This was a snapshot of an animated GIF from DeviantART. The original is here : http://TheUncle2k.deviantart.com/art/glomppoke-146127118
When I save the GIF to Desktop and view the individual frames in Preview, they all look perfect but if I hold the cursor down and let it flick through them all, I get the corruption appearing occasionally (Example 2 original shows it on the second frame of the original).
    Any clues?

    HI Daniel,
Run the Apple Hardware Test from your iMac install disc to make sure it's not a video or graphics card problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
If everything is ok there boot from your install disc and run Disk Utility to make sure there aren't any errors on the the startup disk.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
Make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
