Animated GIFs In CS3?

I need to edit some animated gifs. I can edit them in Elements 5, but have
not figured out how to do that in CS3. Is it possible, and if yes, how
please?
Thank you.
Mike

For cs4 you need to run the 32 bit version of photoshop cs4 to use
Import>Video frames to Layers.

  • Animated GIF - Animation slows after save CS3

    Hello,
When Saving an animated GIF in Photoshop CS3 the animated frames slow when viewed after the save. Therefore any gradient fades etc seem to stutter, about 25% slower than the frame rate set initially.
When the animation is played in photoshop it plays at the right speed, only slows when viewing the file after saving...
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks
    Andy

I just experienced the same problem in Photoshop. 22 frames with "no delay" selected in all of them. When opening the animation in IE6 and Firefox it runs slower than the original.
Therefore, would you be kind to post it if you found a solution?
    Hope to hear something soon.
    Thanx!

  • How to open animated .GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer

Q: Since ImageReady is long gone from Photoshop, how can I open animated GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer?
    A: File -> import-> video to layers.
In the dialogue box type "*.*" to show all file types.
Select your GIF file and which frames to import.
They will now be available in your animation palette.

    Zeno
curt y, sorry for the late reply, I tried that but I doesn't work. I have to choose at least two files in the Load Layers window in order for the OK button to be available and then some action script uses the different files to make layers and merges them but not from the frames of the gif file. I can undo through the script to see what it did but it never accessed the frames of the gif file, just the first frame. Choosing "make frames from layers" in the animation palette only puts the original files into layers - that is only the first frame of the gif file.
I guess I'm out of luck with the 64  bit version of Photoshop as Zeno suggested :-(
What program would you people suggest for opening each frame from gif files?

  • CS1, CS2, CS3 Animated Gif Creation Error.

    Example: http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/5665/walksz2.gif
Whenever I made an animated gif with a transparent background, the above happens. It doesn't hide the previous frame when drawing the next one. However, when I give it a non-transparent background, it is still fine - http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/8080/walklk4.gif
How can I fix this? This happens in Photoshop CS1, CS2, and CS3.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

Read up on "frame disposal method."
Here's a link to the online PS CS3 live documentation about the subject. This info applies to all the versions you mentioned:

  • Can't open animated GIF, even with secret trick (psd cs3)

    Hi
I know a lot of people have had trouble with opening animated .gifs in photoshop cs3. I had that problem until I learned the little "trick" you could do (type *.* in "import video frames to layers") and then simply open the gif. This has worked one my computer for some time, but then all of a sudden it stopped working. I thought it was odd and then I formatted my computer and installed a few windows updates and then installed adobe photoshop cs3 and then quicktime. But it still won't open GIF as it used to do. And it's very odd, as my laptop can do it (and it has just been newly reformatted too). I know Adobe's own solution, which is to use fireworks, but I find it to be a crappy program, so I'm not going to use that. I want to be able to import GIFs into photoshop as I used to :/
Hope someone has encountered this problem too. I know a lot of people had been able to use the trick, but I havn't been able to find anyone who has the crash problem.
    Know of this?

sounds like you might have a conflict with QuickTime, seeing as the error is in MODNAME quicktime.qts
first, try resetting the PS prefs. hold CTRL+ALT+SHIFT on launch and then click Yes when prompted. if you have any preferences that you would prefer not to reset, close PS, move the preference files, then launch PS to create new ones. if it's not the problem, you can put them back later. Use the info in kb401600 if you don't know where the preference files are.
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb401600
if resetting the prefs doesn't fix it, make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime installed (7.4.5) and that it can launch without problems. if you have problems using QT, let us know or post on Apple discussions to find a solution.
if you do have the latest version and the problem recently started, it may be that Apple broke something that PS uses in a recent update. uninstall the version you have, delete /program files/quicktime/ folder if it still exists, reboot, download an older version (apple has archived installers; search for "download quicktime 7.3.1 windows" OR "download quicktime 7.1.6 windows" on google to find it), then install it and reboot before trying PS.

  • CS3 Animated GIFs display incorrectly in browsers.

I am having trouble getting animated GIFs to display correctly in web browsers. When I view the file in a browser, any browser, it displays extremely fast. I have tried exported the file as an animated gif from a slice, exporting as an animated gif, and saving the file (Save As) as an animated gif.
No matter what I have the frame rate set to in Fireworks it displays the same in browsers.
Anyone have any ideas on how to overcome this?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Open and edit animated .gif while preserving frame timing

CS4 Premium Design Edition, Win XP
I was disappointed with the removal of Image Ready from CS3 because although some of the functionality was placed into Photoshop 10, there was no way to open and edit an existing animated .gif while preserving the timing of each individual frame. I was told on the PS forum at the time that I really needed to use Fireworks. I resented that, because I was very happy with Image Ready and I didn't want to have to learn a new application just to gain functionality that had been included in previous versions of PS/IM.
I've now got CS4 Premium Design Edition which of course includs Fireworks... and here's what Help has to say on the subject of imported .gifs.
"Note: When you import an animated GIF, the state delay setting defaults to 0.07 seconds. If necessary, use the States panel to restore the original timing."
This is no use to me. What if I don't know the individual frame timings? What if there are 200 frames with varying timings?
Simple question: which current Adobe product is capable of importing a .gif while retaining the frame timings? If anyone knows, or if I've misunderstood the nature of the Fireworks Help quote above, I'd really appreciate some input here. Thanks :)
Not so simple question: why was an excellent gif-editing application thrown out to have its functionality partially replaced by a bunch of scripts and half-effective workarounds cooked up by desperate users ("import a gif by using the video import and typing *.* into the filename box..")? It's a fair question I think.
    Mark

Hi Bob, that's not glib at all, it's a reasonable question.
I uninstalled it along with everything else when I installed CS3, in the reasonable expectation that whatever replaced IR would be at least equal in functionality.
Perhaps I should just dig out CS2 and install IM from there, but I have some serious reservations about doing so, because I don't know if/how a partial install of CS2 will impact upon my installation of CS4, and I'm not confident of getting support.
I am also curious to know if/why Adobe actually removed basic functionality without replicating or replacing it in their other software. I really want to know: which recent, currently supported Adobe product
should I be using in order to regain this functionality? Or do Adobe no longer produce a geniuinely comprehensive .gif-editing application?

  • ImageReady animated gif creation

    Using ImageReady 7.0
I created an animated gif by putting a bunch of files named so they retained that order (1-29) into a folder and then did Import Folders as Frames. I then add times in the animation window for each frame and then save it optimized. I've always done it this way because it works and is fairly simple but I can't edit the file later and that's what I need help with.
The deals is, whenever I try to add an image or move layers all the frames end up being that layer in the animation window. All I want to do is add some new images to the end or maybe somewhere else in one of the animated gifs instead of going through the steps like before.
Can someone tell me how to do it or what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance!

Its been a long time since I have used ImageReady, and then it was for about year when CS3 came out. So my memory if very rusty with that program. (In other words I am hoping that I am not too far off base, lol.)
Check and make sure there are the same number of layers as there are frames. I believe there is an option in the animation palette for sending the frames to layers. Once you know that the frames and layers match (plus any additional layers you create), you can clear out the animation and reapply the layers to frames.
You should find a small icon in the upper right hand corner of the animation palette and the layers palette. Clicking them will bring up a menu that will do what you need.

  • Animated Gif, XML & Flash 8

I created an animated gif in photoshop cs3. I'm opening the
gif file from inside an xml file using flash 8. It displays the gif
just fine without the animation. I noticed that when I open the
same gif file from an html file the browser (IE7) ask permission to
run activex. Once I give it permission, the animation runs fine.
    When I run it from flash 8, IE7 doesn't ask permission...it just
displays the gif file without running the animation. Any clues?

One thing you may want to look at is the way your symbols are being triggered on the timeline. For example: you have an image of a ball bouncing, it goes down then up over the course of 30 frames and you are playing the FLA at 15 FPS so it takes a full two seconds per "bounce". If you are then putting that symbol into another timeline (probably the main timeline) you need to give the instance of that symbol the full 30 frames to go through the bounce before it stops, but if you give it 31 frames or forget to put a stop() command on the last frame, the sequence will repeat before clearing the stage.
I would look at how you have positioned the object that is being looped in the main timeline and remember that with each keyframe you add to the timeline the animation will restart from the beginning. Imagine the bouncing ball graphic is a video clip of a ball bouncing and not a collection of vectors being repositioned on the stage. Every time you have a keyframe on the symbol of the video on the main timeline, the video restarts and appears to loop. The same may be happening with your animation on the timeline.
    Hope this helps.

  • Editing animated gif

I made an animated gif in CS4. I have to make some changes, I tried editing it in CS3. It woould be easier to start from scratch, but when I deleted the animation and clicked on a layer, all I see is the bottom layer no matter what layer I click on. How do I get my layered photoshop file back?
    Thanks

    Hi,
What version of Ps do you have and what platform are you using? Are you working with video content for the layer changes, or do you have a still that you're manupulating?

  • Animated Gif to Flash... Newbie

Hi all. I'm pretty experienced with using most of Adobe's
software with the glaring exception of Flash.
I've been asked to create an animated banner which I have
done as an animated gif from within PhotoShop. However I'm fairly
sure this sort of animation would be better created in Flash.
    The animated gif is
    here
Ive imported the PSD file into Flash CS3 but I'm not doing
very well at either selecting different layers or indeed moving the
photo and the text over a certain time span.
I imagine this sort of thing if easy to anyone with some
    experience.
Can anyone offer any help on how to do this?
Also, the animated gif file size is about 150kb. Would the
    flash file be significantly smaller?
    Thanks.

Let Flash do that for you. First you have to create a symbol
out of the background image... a graphic symbol will suffice. A
quick way to do that is to place the image on the stage, right
click it, and select Convert To Symbol.
Then, place that symbol in a keyframe. Somewhere down the
timeline, right click on another keyframe and select Insert
Keyframe. The symbol should now extend from the first keyframe to
the one you just added. But for the keyframe you just created,
physically move the image to the slid over location you intend
Go back to the first keyframe, right click on it and select
Create Motion Tween. An arrow should now be joining the two
keyframes which should have blue-colored frames between them. Run
    the movie.
For a competent developer, maybe a half hour tops starting
from scratch... it depends on how much content has to be added to
    the image(s).

  • Problems only with Adobe ImageReady Animated GIF

Anyone encounter a problem and solution for getting ImageReady animated GIF working properly in a java app? Developer placed 2 animated gifs in the app which caused the CPU system resources to spike to 100%.
We then tested animated GIFs made from Macromedia Flash and also a freeware animated GIF editor, and both work out fine in the same java app.
It's odd, but we think there's a problem specifically with animated GIFs produced by Adobe's Image Ready in the Creative Suite 1 package.
    Anyone have more insight?

Its been a long time since I have used ImageReady, and then it was for about year when CS3 came out. So my memory if very rusty with that program. (In other words I am hoping that I am not too far off base, lol.)
