Animated mask question.

When i try to test a simple animated mask using test movie command, it looks like my animation stops on frame 1.  Anyone seen this before?
Thanks, Mike

Thank you for all the input.  I think I may have stumbled onto the the problem.  For some reason, if I use a merge object for my mask object everything works fine.  I was using multiple drawing objects for the mask.  Apparently that's not allowed.
Thanks to all of you who gave my problem some thought.

  • Layers in Animated Gif Question...

    Been going crazy all night
I'm trying to create an animated gif. I made a BG image that I want the video to go on top of. The video is 136 frames (layers). I duplicated the BG image 136 times and pasted the videos 136 layers on top of the BG image.. Here is my problem.. I need to move the video frames (136 of them) onthe background so it lines up better... How do I move them all at once. Meaning if I move the frame on layer 1, the frames will move on EVERY layer. There has to be a way to move them so they all move to the same location at once. There is no way I could move each one separately and get them in the exact same location...
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thanks in advance...
    GT

Sorry... Using PS CS4 Extended.. Not sure what you mean by click the purple icon and then the red button.... I know it will be a bit choppy, but that is alright for this project.... I know with imageready (in the past) you could drag the image and it would move the image in every frame.... There has to be a way to move the image on layer one so that the image will move to the exact spot in each layer..... Atleast, I hope there is.. Thanks for getting back to me

Click the purple icon and then click the red button. Click the OK box below it if you like the result.
It would help to know what program you are using and it might help to post in that program's forum.
Beware that you are grossly abusing the GIF format. It is not intended for video. You could experience choppy playback and/or a lousy color palette.

  • Animated mask on an animated clip : huge problem...

    Hello,
Am I completely hallucinating or what ? That's several years I'm working with Flash, and today, i want to do the simplest animation ever, and it just doesn't work....
I want to mask an animated clip with an animated mask (a shape animation), but every time the mask arrives at a keyframe, the clip restarts to the frame 1 !!
I added a piece of code to see at which keyframe it is blocked, and at every mask keyframe, the code says 'TypeError: Error #1009: null property...'.
    What is this $@#?!@$ ???
Here is an example : http://moonpalace.fr/AdobeForum/testClipMasked.fla
    Thanks for your replies !

The 1009 error indicates that one of the objects being targeted by your code is out of scope.  This could mean that the object....
    - is declared but not instantiated
    - doesn't have an instance name (or the instance name is mispelled)
    - does not exist in the frame where that code is trying to talk to it
    - is animated into place but is not assigned instance names in every keyframe for it
    - is one of two or more consecutive keyframes of the same objects with no name assigned in the preceding frame(s).
If you go into your Publish Settings Flash section and select the option to Permit debugging, your error message should have a line number following the frame number which will help you isolate which object is involved.

  • Want to move an image and it's keyframed animated mask

I want to move an image and it's keyframed animated mask to a new position.
What steps do I need to undertake to accomplish the seemingly impossible task?
    Thank you.

You should try placing it all inside a movieclip by copying/pasting it into the movieclip timeline.  That way it is completely mobile.

  • Masking question

Can anyone point me to a tutorial that explains how to create
a "winding, swirling" type of mask? Similar to the following :
    http://images.templatemonster.com/screenshots/15700/15769.swf
(look at the green growing leaf , and the green concentric
    swirl on the left side)
I've got the artwork, I'm just now sure how to mask it so
that it looks like it's "growing".
    Thanks

It's an animated mask, take a look at his site:

  • Animated mask problem

I am new to Flash and am using Flash 5. I have created a fla
file that contains an animated mask layer consisting of a rectangle
with no fill or stroke that moves over an eps file I imported from
Illustrator. There is no text involved. When I hit enter to view
it, the animated mask works. When I publish it as either a swf or a
mov file, the animated mask does not appear at all. I don't know
what is wrong. My default browser is Foxfire. I don't know how to
preview it in IE to see if it works there but because it doesn't
show up in the Flash player or in Quicktime, I figure I've done
something wrong but I have no idea what. Can anyone help?

exactly my reaction - a rectangle with no fill or stroke is
    indeed nothing :p

  • SWF Export; Rasterized Layer from using a simple animated mask?

I'm currently animating some drawings from Illustrator in AE CS3, and exporting them as SWF's.  Everything has gone pretty well, up until I used a simple rectangular animated mask (Inverted, Mode 'Add') that revealed a layer.  Whether I have the mask directly on the layer, or have it parented on an adjustment layer, the output is horribly rasterized, but only for that layer.  I've looked at the Help Viewer and it states that masks are a supported feature of exporting to swf, but I am flummoxed how to keep the vectored images I began with.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!
    Mike

Thanks for the reply!  I had considered that fact, even though I couldn't find any documentation for it.  However, even with a static mask, drawn onto the layer, the rasterization still occurs.  Is there a way to have even a static mask produce a non-rasterized export?  It seems it should be the case considering it's a 'supported feature.'   Do I need to import vectored shapes from Illustrator as masks, instead of drawing them in AE?  And yes, Continuously Rasterize is checked (althought it doesn't seem to be necessary in any other of the Illustrator layers).   Any ideas?

  • Problems with animated masks and external images

I have an instance of a movieClip on the stage and I load an external JPG into the movieClip.  The movieClip is masked by a layer that begins animating on a certain frame.  As soon as I reach that frame my externally loaded JPG disappears.  The movieClip doesn't mind being masked, but as soon as the mask animates the external image goes away.  The mask animation is shapes drawn frame by frame.
It is interesting to note that if I create a Class and load the JPG into the movieClip (or do this in a constructor) I do not experience this problem - it is when the JPGs are loaded into an instance of the movieClip that lives on the stage that I encounter this. Unfortunately that is not an option in my project (since I have to get the path for the JPG from an xml file I am loading).
Could someone please help me with this?

    that's a flash bug.

  • Layer Mask Question

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting, sorry. I am new
to Flash, but I've got a general knowledge of it to help me discuss
    this question.
I am trying to build a site that has a homepage with some
images on it. The basic format of the site is broken into a grid.
It is 5x9. It is basically a graphic over the top of the
background. From this home page there are 3 buttons at the bottom.
What I want to happen is when one of the buttons is clicked the
homepage background image, or whatever is in the background, stays
there and the information that the button is calling up to dissolve
one square at a time, or in a combination, to give a nice
dissolve/transition to the next set of information.
    What I've tried doing:
I started another scene, which is the contents of the page
after the first button is pressed. My layer stack from bottom to
top is, a copy of the background image and grid from the homepage,
then a new layer that is masked. On the layer is an image with all
the information I want to show after the wipe. So on the mask layer
I have 45 boxes. Each box is set to a zero alpha. As the keyframes
go thru the time line certain sets of boxes are put up to 100%
alpha, and have a white color. But what I'm getting is the
background image is static, and then the white boxes just pop the
masked layer in below. There is no dissolve or anything.
This is probably the wrong way to attack this problem but
with my limited knowledge it is the only thing I could think of.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could achieve this effect?
    Thank you!

Yes, as Michael pointed it to you, you are seeing your edit below the arm layer, and Photoshop processes layer from top to bottom.

  • Matte/mask question - very basic

Really dumb question- I have never fully understood the terminology, though I know conceptually what I want to do. I want to create an image matte I believe. An example would be - I have a photograph of a television set. I have made the entire screen (slightly oval) all pure black. I wish to have a layer (video) underneath it snow up, but only through this layer of black, so the image is cropped around the edge of the round-ish screen (it's an old TV). How do I do this? I'm always confused at all the composite modes - matte, mask, add, yada yada.
I know this is very basic, so I'm looking for some guidance on how to accomplish this so I know the terminology and the basics.
    Thanks

    qft.
Nothing wrong with that either !
In the interests of science and bad family entainment (which I know Mike likes to inflict on relatives. Sorry Mike, had to throw that in, still get a laugh when I think about that post) ... there is more than one way to skin the cat
Mike - if you wanted to use a matte and not a mask then you'll want to composite the image you want to use in the screen part of the tv using that part of the tv.
You'll want the "black" portion of your screen to be white. Then you'd use on another layer above that white "matte" the image or layer of video you want to appear.
So you'd have your tv box on one layer- then your white screen on anther layer - then an image/video above using Travel Matte Luma from the composite mode.
It's quick - but offers less cntrol, imo.
I like masks - personal preference only, tho'

  • Text animation (Masking)

Ok, well I'm trying to make a scrolling text box animation
for a website that has limited space. I am kind-of trying to do it
like credits or something like that. There will be a [mask] square
that the text will scroll up thru it intill it finishes and then it
will start over again. I have it all masked and when you drag the
motion frames manually, it will work perfectly - but once you test
movie, it will not show up. I'm lost
here is a simple "testing" flash of what it looks like but
with no resolution. (because pictures speak better then words)
    http://www.freefilehosting.ws/file/2500/Scrolling-Help-fla.html
(sorry it takes about 20 seconds before you can download the file
but couldnt find a better free file hosting site)

If you convert your text into a MovieClip and then click the
"Use runtime bitmap caching" box in the properties it should work.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Powerpoint Animation Import Question

Hello All. I'm running Powerpoint 2003 and Captivate 3.
Here's my somewhat silly question. When I import a .ppt slide
with simple animation into Cap, all I get is a blank screen in Cap.
Once I hit F3 to preview the slide, I see what's supposed to be in
the animation, but it fades away once the slide is done.
How do I edit the damn thing in Cap? I've tried different
grouping, different window sizes, moving things around, but I can't
get to the text that fades in.
There's got to be a simple answer that I'm just not seeing.
    Thanks
    Jimmy

    Hey there Jimmy
Standard problem is that what you created in Powerpoint from
many elements is pulled into Captivate as a single entity and thus
cannot be edited in Captivate. The best way is to build each slide
in Captivate from ground up, but I understand the frustration if
you have good powerpoint material and do not want to rebuild. In
this instance, my suggestion is to delete the slide in question in
Captivate, then open the ppt file and edit your animations there as
this is probably where the problem lies, remember that Captivate
does not have that "click to appear/disappear" functionality that
Powerpoint has and thus just plays all your animations in a timed
sequence. Lastly, import the "fixed" slide back into Captivate.
(Suggestion is to save that ppt slide as a file on its own before
    pulling into Captivate)
    cheers
    Andrew

  • Forwarding / Masking Question

So ive searched the forums here and I've found a bunch of answers to most of my questions... however I'm still having an issue with my website masking.
I built a site for my mothers store http://walnutandvine.com
However when you go to the site it shows my mac address.
I bought the domain through godaddy... and under the forwarding section I enabled Masking and set my Masking Title to www.walnutandvine.com
I also setup some Masking Meta Tags and keyword tags.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong... any help would be great.
I also have the site setup through zoneedit.com not sure if that tidbit of info helps.
Oh and under Forwarding what is 301 Moved Permanetly and 302 Moved Temporarily?
    Thanks again

Forwarding tells the domain what url to display.
I believe what you are need to look at is "cname"
You should be able to find related posts.
    Also there is information here:
With godaddy you can do it yourself in your account area.
    They also have good support.
Actually the above url has a specific reference to godaddy setup.
    good luck

  • Set operations using Rotobrush and Masks question

    Hi everyone
I have a relatively simple video clip of an object rotating.  Its shot straight on, no fancy moves or anything just rotating.  I've rotobrushed it and it looks good on a plain white background.  I'm animating a color shift such that as the object rotates its top 1/3rd part changes colors.  The area changing colors has crinkly edges but I've used rotobrush to isolate that as well, no problems there.  I duplicated the original clip, rotobrushed the duplicate to separate it from the background.  The original clip fades into pure white leaving the rotobrushed layer visible.  I duplicated the original again, rotobrushed the top 1/3rd in the same way.  I created a new layer with just a color adjustment effect and used the rotobrushed top 1/3rd as a track-mask for the animated color adjustment layer.
What I want to do is run a color gradient that shifts colors same as the top part but bleeds into the lower part that does not change colors.
So, is it possible to use a regular mask for the gradient and do a difference operation with the rotobrush of the object so the gradient only effects the area below the top 1/3rd which changes color ?  I know I can do it with regular masks, but I can't figure out how to do it with rotobrush masks.  I want to be able to do intersections and unions.
any pointers would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks
    -AK

Wrong thinking. You need to get away from masks vs. Rotobrush. In the end, all you do is create matte channels and therein lies the answer - any channel can be mangled with effects, possibly requiring to be extracted and isolated first by pre-rendering or pre-comping. RB and masks are just means to an end/ tools, nothing more.
