Animation Lag on MacBook

I have a MacBook Pro with Retina Display (Early 2013) with OS X Mavericks. When I used it for a while I found that some of the animations like opening apps and windows are really slow and not smooth.
Sometimes when I am loading websites the screen will freeze like a second and I can't move the mouse or trackpad.

I have the same problem.

  • Does iOS 4.3.3 animations lag sometimes?

Hello! I'm new to Apple devices, and there is a big question for me - does iOS 4.3.3 animations lag sometimes for everyone? I mean, not apps, but iOS itself. While sliding lists, fade out animation when pressing Home button while being in application etc. Even when I try to quick slide main "Settings" lists, it moves uncomfortable sometimes. I tried to restore my device as new, but it didn't solve the problem.
    Sorry for my English.

There are lags when the free memory is low, or when the are significant background processes using CPU time.  These have been present in all iOS versions.  They seem to be more noticeable in the iP4 than earlier models, possibly because of the larger graphics demand of the high resolution display.
Restarting, resetting, deleting background apps all will help.  If it doens't - and restoring as new doesn't, your phone is defective.

  • Animation lag in ios 7.0.3

Hi! After updating ipad 4 does not work! animation lag and other problems in the interface!
Please correct the problems in the interface!

Same thing on my iPad 4 64 GB. I left a rather lengthy iPad feedback regarding this. Some activities seem quicker in iOS 7, but those that aren't are unfortunately the very actions used most.
The main one, for me, is using the pinch multitasking gesture to return to the home screen from an app. It's smooth until the outer "ring" of icons starts being drawn. At that point, it hesitates, then kind of stutters to complete the animation. Returning to the home screen using the home button is fine, though, which is a bit odd because the animation is customized to zoom from the app's icon location - as opposed to the one initiated by he pinch gesture.
There are other places where the UI just isn't as smooth as it was on iOS 6, even remembering back to before last August when I was running it on an iPad 3.
To add insult to injury, I was literally forced to upgrade to iOS 7 last week when I needed a warranty replacement for the iPad 4 (backlight issue). I had been running 6.1.3, and although I would eventually upgrade it to 7, I wasn't ready to do so yet. Anyway, the replacement came with v6.0.1, and iTunes refused to allow me to restore from my backup, showing an "OS is too old - restore will install the latest version" error (I don't remember exact wording). I tried everything for several hours before giving in (I had previously downloaded the 6.1.3 IPSW file when 7 was released, but Apple stopped signing it shortly after the release).

  • Expose animation lag & Dashboard ripple gone after 10.6 on Macbook Pro '08

I upgraded a Macbook Pro 2008 model (MacBookPro4,1) to OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard), and various animation effects across the OS started having issues.
1.) Expose animation of windows coming into place is now laggy.
2.) Dashboard's water ripple effect is gone when adding widgets. Just the widget window zooms in and out in a couple bounces.
3.) But other animations like the dock Genie effect work fine.
These were all working perfectly fine on the OS X 10.5.8 installation I just upgraded from. This is the model with the 256 MB GeForce 8600M GT.
For comparison, I upgraded a Macbook Pro 2007 model with a clean install of Snow Leopard much earlier, and it didn't exhibit any of these issues. Any ideas? This happens even upon fresh reboot (4 GB RAM installed).

    You mustn't use MacKeeper > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3036 Uninstall that program > http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malware/
If the problems persist after uninstalling this, it has broken Mac OS X and you have to reinstall Mac OS X. Press Command and R keys while your computer is starting and reinstall Lion

  • Why are my animations lagging?

    Hi,
Recently I download Mac OS X Mavericks (clean install). I've noticed since (about a few weeks after installing) that my animations have been incredibly laggy. I can't enter Mission Control properly (it'll get there, but it looks odd). Here's a video of what I mean - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt_48VBEquI&feature=youtu.be. It's not video or recording lag that you see, that's exactly how it appears on my computer. I'm running a 15" early-2011 MacBook Pro with a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor and 8 GB's of RAM. My graphics are "Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB".
    Thanks,
    Ian

  • Photoshop cs6 lags on macbook pro retina 15'

Recently I got my hands on photoshop cs6 but my brush lags quite a bit while using it. This happens when I'm zooming in to do minor details or if I'm using a brush more than 200
I've heard good things about design production on macbooks but so far I've seen the opposite. Is there anyway to solve the brush lag problem from Apple's end?

I am using a student version which is running atm on a windows 7 64 bit macbook pro retina 15. The best thing i can try doing is downgrade to CS5. Though i'm positively sure if I installed photoshop less than a few weeks ago, it would be at the latest...

  • Adobe Photoshop CC lags on Macbook Pro when moving layer content around

    Hi,
We just bought new Macbook Pro laptops last Friday and also got Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Illustrator CC. Everything works pretty fine, except moving layer content eg. images or fonts around is a bit behind, slow/laggy, without any apparent reason.
This happens despite external screen connected or not. It also happens with or without power adapter connected. We have brand new Mac OS Mavericks and 16GB RAM so performance should not be a problem.
I hope you can help out, we are a digital agency and do a lot of graphical work. Thanks in advance.

i cant believe this problem is still happening. same exact issue here. photoshop cs6 and CC run like **** on my macbook but run smooth on windows 7 on the same exact hardware, macbook pro 2.5ghz core i5, 16gb ram and intel hd 4000. ive talked with applecare about this, adobe support (who hasn't called me back twice now) and no response on how to fix this. its absolutely ridiculous that we are having to go through this much trouble to get this problem fixed. ive brought it up over 5 times now and no solution except for the usual suggestions (turn off hardware acceleration, delete your preferences, yada yada). same hardware, mac osx photoshop cc lags, windows photoshop runs fine.. something is wrong with the mac version of photoshop cs6 and CC adobe please fix this as soon as possible.

  • Lag on macbook pro retina 13

I have a macbook pro retina 13' late 2012. I'm expecting lag issues with safari(and others browsers) when the webs are plenty of photos/videos. I'm expecting no issues with older macbooks. Is this usual? The same happens using Dreamweaver (scrolling), with some PDFs...

    Try resetting your SMC.
    Erase and Reinstall OS X
Note: This will delete all data on the disk. Back up important files before continuing.
Erasing and then reinstalling OS X can give you a fresh start, making your computer exactly as it was whenever you received it from Apple. This can solve various problems such as corrupt system files.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
Press the Power Button to turn on the computer.
Press and hold both the R and Command (⌘) keys on the keyboard until the Recovery partition loads.
Select Disk Utility and then choose Continue.
Select your startup disk (Macintosh HD by default) from the left.
    Select the Erase tab.
Choose the Format pop-up menu and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled), enter a name for your disk, and then click Erase.
After the disk is erased, choose Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility.
Select Reinstall OS X and then choose Continue.
    Follow the instructions.
    I hope I helped.

  • Illustrator scroll lagging on macbook

Hello everyone I have a brand new Late 2013 macbook pro with a retina display. I have the display set to maximum resolution and was wondering why illustrator was lagging when scrolling. It does this for every type of file. Even the ones with smaller resolution. The scroll is very laggy and choppy. The version is CS6 with all updates installed.
    Thank you in advance.

I have an older Intuos 3 which I recently installed the driver for which could very well be the culprit. Just removed the preference pane and will let you know if the problem re-occurs. Thanks for replying!

  • Common reasons for lag on MacBook Pros/Leopard?

Hi all. I have a MacBook Pro that's a couple of years old. I'm running 10.5.6 on a 2.16 GHz Core 2 with 2 GB of RAM. As of late I've been noticed some very poor performance, specifically a lot of lag and sluggishness.
This manifests itself in a few ways. I notice when I'm playing music through iTunes or streaming sites that it gets very choppy. My mouse tends to lag at times and I also notice it when using Expose (the windows don't move smoothly). I've also had a couple of system crashes lately which I rarely had previous to the last couple of months.
I've searched some forums and tried some of the fixes (e.g., repairing disk permissions) but these things haven't helped. It's possible that I just need to up my hardware although when I check Activity Monitor I sometimes, but don't always, see the CPU spiked when I'm noticing problems.
Are there any steps I can take to diagnose what's going on here and potentially fix this?

Heya... Next time you are in the middle of a slow spell, definitely pop open Activity Monitor and if those CPU meters are maxed, it's because the CPU percentages of all the processes are hitting 200%. Anytime (ever) you see the meters peaking, you most definitely will be able to see who's eating it up, because the meter/graph is directly tied to the sum total of the usage of all processes. Sort it in descending order and the top apps are the prime offenders.
If you notice the CPU is mellow, check the RAM. If the pie chart doesn't have a shred of green, then you have no more free RAM and the system is now resorting to swap space. You can jump over to the disk activity meters and watch them thrash as the system is paging data from RAM to disk over and over. If you /then/ decide to try and close some husky program (aka Photoshop) that's been sitting open but unused for the past 3 hours, you're now going to wait while the system pages all that data in (while pushing something else out) before it can even just quit.
If you see all the meters totally freeze up for a few seconds, you might be having IO failures (disk drive is dying, etc.). To elaborate: if it's updating the graph every second but sometimes pauses for 5 seconds and jumps back to life.
The stuttering graphics have happened to me even on Macs with the highest specs possible. It's a pain to try and pinpoint... All the eyecandy is offloaded by the GPU so the CPU is not affected by it. It could be anything from video RAM running low to the bus getting swamped, to something causing Quartz to go wacky. I have found that simply logging out and logging back in (restarting the WindowServer) almost always fixes it. That's a lousy answer and I would love to get off my butt and find the 'what' there.
If the audio starts skipping, that can also be a number of things. Maybe the disk is overtaxed, thus your player can't read the audio data fast enough, or maybe some program is going crazy and doing things to trip up the audio pipeline. Something as simple as an app neglecting to write *one bit* of audio data can cause endless static since everything's now misaligned. It's usually software related.
If you start with the "CPU, RAM, disk activity" process of elimination, you'll generally be able to figure out what's going on. The important thing is to try and avoid trying solutions that are totally unrelated... not to mention that today it might be one thing, tomorrow the next. There is no list of things that'll work every time. =)

  • COD4 Lag on Macbook 13 Inch

I have the old white macbook 13 inch with 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo procesor, 2gb of ram and intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory.
I'm experiencing a lot of lag with the new cod4 that i had just purchased from the apple store and i was wondering if anyone knows what the problem is and how to fix it.

    Hi namillionaire,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
While I've not attempted to run CoD4 on the older MacBooks, the x3100 graphics processor is not supported as a minimum system requirement. Which means, while it may run the game it will not run it well and is unsupported by the game developer.
So regrettably, the lag you're experiencing is to be expected.
    System Requirements
    Mac OS v10.5.4 or later
2Ghz or faster Intel Core 2 Duo processor
    1GB of RAM
    9GB free hard-disk space
ATI Radeon X1600 or NVIDIA GeForce FX7300 video card
    128MB of VRAM
    DVD drive
    Mouse and keyboard
Broadband or LAN connection for multiplayer mode
    Supported video cards: ATI Radeon X1600, X1900; Radeon HD 2400, 2600; NVIDIA GeForce 7300, 7600, 7800, 8600, 8800; GeForce Quadro FX 4500
Note: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some disk and virtual disk drives. _*Intel integrated chipsets are not supported*_, nor are PowerPC (G4 and G5) processors.

  • Fcp lag on macbook pro

i've noticed a lag when editing on my macbook pro. It's something i've never experienced in fcp, and indeed is only happening on my mbp, not on my slower imac.
it's pretty subtle, but very annoying. basically the mouse freezes up for about 3 seconds. it's usually when i'm in the timeline. i press play, it starts playing right away, but the mouse is unresponsive for about 3 seconds.
both my machines have 2gb of ram, both running fcp 6.0.1.
has anyone else experienced this? any ideas?
    thanks.

I also had problems with the trackpad periodically stuttering on my new MBP.
Someone suggested that I turn off the "Ignore accidental trackpad input" in the system preffs.
I think it may have helped. Although I still experience missed letters when typing.
Let me know if you see a difference.
    good luck,
    g

  • Gameplay lag on MacBook Air 13" 2010

I played some games on MacBook Air 13" 2010 with Windows 7.
The gameplay was OK when I played on battery power. However, gameplay was lagged while using with AC power adapter.
What could be the problem? Is it CPU throttling?

I have the same problem. Did you find a solution?

  • Lag on MacBook

Well, I completely reset up my airport Extreme/Express network this morning, and I get really speedy response to the web on my iMac G5, absolutely blazing speed, but I get shocking lag going between websites on my MacBook... never seen it going so slow, sometimes take a minute to open a website.
The settings are identical on the two machines, both on Airports (g) and both have the same DNS etc.
Any suggestions would be great, I am vexed on this one...

Found it !!! If you have parallels installed, be careful how the Parallels NAT interface is set up, it was on DHCP and was taking the address from the ADSL router and not from the Airport Extreme. I have now manually configured it to be on the Airport Extreme's subnet and hey presto.. speed again..

  • 10 Second Internet lag on MacBook Pro since Airport extreme CD Install

I have a MacBookPro 2.16Core Duo 17 and an Imac 24 and just purchased the new Airport Router. Hookup was a breeze, however, after installing the CD my MacBook now takes aprox 10 seconds to switch sites when surfing the net. If I connect via a ethernet cable the lag is gone. If I login to Win XP in bootcamp wirelessly, and surf the web there is no lag. I only get it from any distance when I'm on OSX latest version. I tried setting up a new user and booting into that to no avail, same problem. My wife also has two Macs, a MacPro and a PowerBook and they both have no lag wirelessly, it's just my MacBook Pro. One other side note, the lag only occurs when going from one site to another, but once I get to the site I'm at full speed, including downloads. We use Comcast.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.......

I have a Macbook C2D with the N card enabled now and an Airport Extreme (802.11n). I did a speed test the other day and it rated me only at 1.7 MB/sec download. A friend on mine has the new Extreme too and a Core Duo Macbook, so he only has the 54G card, and he pulls 6 MB/sec downloads. We both use Comcast internet as well.
His girlfriend on the other hand has a new Macbook C2D with N enabled, and she only gets the 1.7 MB/sec download like me. My PC which is hooked up through Ethernet cable gets roughly 6 MB/sec download. I think it has something to do with either the firmware for the Airport card in the macs or the firmware for the Airport Extreme. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.
