Animation - Lip Sync sound problems

Hey guys. I used to have Macromedia Flash 8 but I've now got
Adobe Flash CS3. I am trying to make a speaking animated person in
flash and for this, I wish to change the framerate to 24FPS for
high quality, and then import the sound to timeline and for each
individual frame, change the facial and mouth expressions. For
this, I would like to, when clicking on a frame of the sound to
animate, just the sound for that one frame to play so I know what
expression to add.
I used to be able to do this in the old version fo Flash and
I hope that you can help me with this.
Thankyou,
Ryan

I can't walk you though it step by step (*maybe somebody else can). But here are some things to look at:
Echoes in a particular room, especially without significan movement of the mic, fall at ver specific frequencies. They can be greatly reduced with careful use of extremely narrow parametric equalizations.
The following is non-FCP specific but you'll figure it out. The short story: you want to set up a parametric EQ with a narrow band and with the gain pumped up.
Now sweep the frequency up from the bottom until the sound gets really boomy and annoying. You just found one of those frequencies. Center the frequency where it sounds the lousiest.
Now turn the gain all the way down. The sound should be much better. Tweak the bandwidth and the gain until the most objectionable echo is taken out without affecting the desired audio too badly. This is subjective.
You're not done yet. Repeat this process with another parametric EQ, sweeping up friom the frequency of the first one. Repeat all the above. And so on until you've got a handle on it. Most of the nasty echos will be in the boomy bass area.
If you're really finicky, you may now find yourself going back and raising the gain on some of these to get back some of the audio quality. Echo isn't all bad, but there is definitely such a thing as too much.
I guess I do go step by step... darn, I don't have time for that!

  • Help Overcoming Sync Sound Problems

I have some video footage that a client has handed over where the sync sound shot on location is, shall we say, less than optimal. It is interview footage of Doctors in Emergency Rooms and was shot on location in empty ER treatment rooms. It is very echo-y/hollow and has a lot of background voices from out in the hall of the ER.
Though I would like to minimize the background voices, I can live with them. The real issue I need to some advice on is how to minimize the hollow/echo sound from shooting in an empty sheetrock/linoleum room? The levels are excellent and the voices are crystal clear.
I am true novice at Soundtrack Pro (and sound in general) and would really appreciate some advice on how to make the voice track "richer".

I would try deleting the detached audio and unmuting(turning volume to 100%) all the video clips after the  detached one starts.

  • How to lip sync and see the sound wave better?

Alright, so first of all I will thank you for clicking this post!
There's 2 questions/problems, so if you got the solution on both/one of them, PLEASE post!
So I'm working on an animation where some guys sings and in order to make that look good, i need some good lip syncing.
Since this is not short clips, but a whole song on 2-3 minutes, it's very hard for me to make the lip sync perfect because I have to replay from the beginning in order to hear the music.
So question one is: Are there a way that I can play the movie in the middle and still hear the music?
And so the second question is that I can barely see the sound waves in the Music layer, even though there's lots of music.
Here's a picture of how big the sound waves are:
And that's in the middle of the song!
The problem is not that the music is too low, because it's quite high.
So question number two is: Are there a way that I can make the soundwaves bigger in the music layer without affecting the music itself?
Feel free to post even if you don't have the answer, so it will stay at the top till someone knows how to fix this!
    Thanks from Mistah NovaNova

There are several ways to make the sound file, or any layer, more prominent in the timeline. In the upper right corner of the timeline window is a contextual menu. In that menu select Large. This will make all of the layers use a larger area in the timeline window. Set the frame rate to higher rate, say 100 or 150 fps. This will stretch the audio, and all of the other content over a larger space in the timeline.
Both of the above will make the audio track easier to see. Add a layer to the timeline and place key frames at points where you need. These will aid you in managing the audio.
I usually cut up the audio file into smaller chunks and place these end to end in the timeline, usually in different layers. The net effect on playback is that the sound plays as expected. On the timeline, I get a short chunk of content to work with. You cannot expect to maintain sync over any extended period of time in Flash, or any application like it. Keep the extent of any given synched section short and run them end to end. The audio and the visual portions of Flash are compiled separately and will be played back separately.

  • Lip Sync Problem AFTER LG Firmware Update on some HD Channels

I have an LG HDTV, model number 47LH90, and I'm experiencing lip sync issues even after they gave me a firmware update to solve the problem.
I've noticed the problem appears to be most prevalent on the History HD channel.  Most other channels seem fine now following the firmware update from LG.  Any reason why this is  happening?  I have a couple thoughts to add for Verizon personnel:
    1) The Motorola STB/DVR I have from Verizon let's me choose my output as 720p, 1080i, etc.  It would be nice if it would also allow a pass-through option to just be whatever input the feed is.  For example, sometimes I wonder if this issue is because the DVR is trying to take 1080i input to the STB and convert it to 720p output to the TV, which somehow changes data lengths and results in some lip sync issue.
    2) I have a PlayStation3 that I bought to use mainly as a Blu-Ray player.  The PlayStation Audio/Video to my TV using the HDMI cable works great, with no lip sync on Blu Rays, Hulu, games, etc.  I know this lip sync is sometimes more prevalent on LG TV's, but it would seem to me that if PlayStation's can produce lip sync-free content, surely FIOS can too.  Perhaps they could upgrade their hardware and use the latest standards.
    3) I'm using the same make/quality/length HDMI cables on my PlayStation3 and STB, HDMI 1.3a.
I would love to see some updates that address this issue as soon as possible.

We frequently have a similar/same problem but do not have a HDTV or programming. We have a  QIP6416-2 hooked up to a 12 year old Sony large screen TV (we won't buy a HDTV until Verizon gets a better, higher capacity DVR or until out contract is up and we can move on).  Often when we are watching a taped show (we tape almost everything) the sound and picture will get out of sync.  Think bad Japanese movie!  It makes me crazy as I read lips but my husband, although bothered, doesn't want to kill the DVR after a few minutes. We have found, by trial and error, that if we exit the show and then resume play the sound and picture return to normal. It also happens when we rewind on a currently playing show.  It happens almost every time I rewind a long ways (I do this when I watch 2 shows at once).  It is harder to get back in sync when this happens but it sometimes works if I watch and jump forward to be close to live and then jump between shows and only have to rewind a short ways.  I used to routinely watch 2 shows at once but now the aggravation factor makes me either tape everything or just not watch some shows I like.  I posted to let you know that it may not be the LG update and may be the DVR.  Try out my tricks when it happens, and if they work, I would blame the DVR.
Thanks for the suggestion.  My problem actually seems to go away when the show is recorded versus live, at least sometimes, but not always.  Although, I've found that stopping playback, then resuming, or similar behavior can help the problem as well.  I just want my TV to work without having to throw salt over my shoulder.

  • Lip sync problems on Prisoner

Has anyone had lip sync problems on the downloaded (to Apple TV) of episode 3 of Prisoner?
I find that the speech is appx. 3 seconds ahead of the visuals. It's the same on the download to computer version also. Haven't contacted Apple support team yet as I first wanted to find out if it's a common problem.

    oldgroover wrote:
They've refunded me for this episode, but not for the whole series which is now spoiled for me (and which I've canceled)
That's the point really - it's a 6 part series and one messed up episode will ruin the whole experience and devalues the rest of the episodes.
It's a shame they've not refunded all the episode costs to date to you or at the very least made some other kind of gesture of goodwill. What's worrying is an apparent lack of concern over all these itunes store issues that crop up - as a user you want confidence that when you're paying for what are in essence proprietary versions of DRM protected media that you can actually use and enjoy them properly.
I have many music videos purchased in last few years which are now available DRM free with higher sound quality - I've upgraded may be 40% but a large proportion are not offered even though they are available - several reports to store support simply return a kind of stock along the lines of 'not all old purchases have been updated in the database yet as available for iTunes plus' - I mean it's gotta be over a year now since the store went iTunes Plus for music.
I've resumed buying music video DVDs now - for the cost of 2 or 3 iTunes Plus music videos I can often get a DVD compilation fro the same artist cheaper.
UK pricing is crazy, and I don't know if it's Apple or the media companies. I've mentioned the original Star Trek tv series that appeared on iTunes UK a few weeks ago - about 10 USD for series 1, but no £54 in the UK, and the previews show crap encoding with jaggies on edges everywhere.

  • Auto Lip Sync for Animation (Mac)

Hey, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there are any
programs out there that will automatically lip sync your animations
for Flash that are available for OS X. I've found a few out there,
    but they're for Windows.
If not, does anyone have a simple trick to make it less time
consuming? I used to mess around in Flash but it's been ages. I
remember essentially making each character a movie? Or was it
making the mouth a movie? It ended up being that on the timeline
you would just press a button and the right mouth would come up.
Uhg. I bet that sounds mental.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Just keep in
mind my Flash knowledge is super limited.

Hi, I know this is an old post, but I'm writing in case people are still looking for a solution.
Our new SmartMouth extension (http://smartmouth.ajarproductions.com) works right inside Flash (and is cross-platform)!
You can also use our free FrameSync extension to speed up any manual lip syncing.

  • Animation with lip sync

We have produced some simple facial animations with lip
    synced voices using
TTS. When played back on pocket PC the lip sync is way out.
    Is this a
limitation of the flash player or the pocket PC power.???

I'd expect to see that if the device doesn't have the
    horsepower to do what
you are asking of it. See if you can optimise the animations
    in some way.

  • How do I get rid of lip-sync issues with iTunes 10.2.2.12?

    Hi Everyone.
    Firstly, a very Happy Easter!
I'm having lip-sync issues with iTunes playback on my PC. The video is largely smooth with the occaisional choppiness when the CPU is made to work hard. (Playback on my iPod Touch is fine).
The system stats for my PC are at the bottom of the post.
The sound is produced through a Creative Live Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card.
Video is through a NVIDIA Geforce 6200 with 512Mb of RAM. (All video and audio drivers are up to date).
The physical set-up is that I have iTunes installed on the C drive and my media installed on an external USB hard-drive.This isn't just a problem with 10.2.2.12 - it's been there for the last few updates.
I suppose my main questions are:
Should iTunes and my media be on the same drive? (Which would mean the external drive as I'm short on space on the C drive).
Is there some combination of settings in QuickTime that will solve this? (I've tried different combinations, but it doesn't really help).
Is the spec (below) of my PC causing any issues.
Here's an Easter Egg for anyone able to help!!
    All the best

Select *List view* instead of *Album list view*. These are in the View menu or the boxes next to Search, on the right top of iTunes.

In List view, you can turn off every column (in menu View > View options) except track name.

  • Magpie or Papagayo Lip-Sync?

Ok, I've just gotten through learning Anime Studio Pro. It's like Toon Boom. I've been wanting to learn how to do character animation for a while and Motion is not the perfect solution. Cool thing with Anime Studio is the "bone" structure so you can build and manipulate characters and design custom "actions" to do common things.
Phenome Lip-Sync (exact mouth move matches) is done through an external program, either Magpie or Papagayo. Papagayo is free, but REALLY limited. But it basically makes a .dat file which consists of list of keyframe/frame positions and a corresponding "switch-layer." Makes it very easy to program lip moves quickly and send to Anime Studio Pro, or After Effects, Maya... etc.
My question is this : This concept of a switch layer is really powerful: Is there a way to do this in Motion?
FYI : A switch layer is like a group with a number of layers/drawings in it. Only one can be visible at a time. SO you can click on one and the others will all not be visible. Perfect for lip moves or expressions, hand positions, etc.
Motion seems to be limited to having to keyframe the opacity of EVERY other layer to do this.

Wow! Okay that is the problem with someone who has never used scripts trying out a script with thin documentation. I was looking for the script in the "Scripts" menu. I now see it under "Window". Thank you Paul.

  • Gigaworks and audigy 2 zs platinum lip sync is

Can smeone form creative please help me with this issue.
I have loads of external dvd players, a pacific, an xbox, 4 yamadas, accoustic solutions, scanvision, etc etc.
This is what is happenning, i am connecting the pacific dvd players optical out (or coaxial) It makes no difference as they both do it.
Press play to watch dvd, and start watching movie, the longer the movie plays and even in the first 5 minutes of playback the lip sync starts to go out, this is with the use installed decoder checked on soundcard and doly digital decode slected instead of default, spdif byass.
If i stop or pause the dvd and press play the lip sysnc comes back in, then it gradually goes out again.
Now it is not the dvd player. as it does this with the xbox as well, and the yamada, etc etc, this is on a clean installation of win xp pro, the only things that are in are chipset drivers, gfx card driver and the full installation of the audigy 2 zs platinum driver disc.
I connect the optical out or the coaxial ut to the optical in on aud 2 zs plat li've bay, and the same with the coaxial in on aud 2 zs plat li've bay, but only one at a time.
Can someone tell me why this is doing this, i am 98% certain i do not get this from using aux 2 in.
Also it always says unknown or invalid spdif signal in the decoder options.
Also it fails to initialize the dolby digital decoding when inserting the coaxial cable sometimes or rather 8 times out of ten, i have to either restart dvd player, or restart computer to get sound back.
I am not happy with either the s750 speakers whilst playing dvds or the audigy 2 zs card, the speakers are not very loud whilst playing most dvds and teh lip sync is not acceptable, i have used a dtt2200 and sb li've 5. witht the same dvd players and i never had this issue, granted this was on another computer, so i wil be try the s750 with the new computers onboard 7. sound chip to see if i get same issues, then i will be moving the sound card into another pci slot but i should not have to do this, as creative should have already tried this card in all available pci slots in all manufacturers motherboards to test the compatibility, if this issue remains can someone at creative tell me if they will give me a refund for the hardware of gigaworks s750 and audigy 2 zs platinum as www.dabs.co.uk will not give me a refund for these the speakers have only been in use for at most 2 weeks but are 3 weeks old and aud 2 card is about 0 weeks old but have only just been tested on my new computer as of at most 4 days as thats went i got all the other hardware to build up computer and i am most unhappy that dabs tell me they only do a refund or replacement upto 28 days, so creative it looks like the refunding of my money will fall to your company, but then after all it is your hardware, so you maybe can force dabs into giving me a refund , as after all it is your hardware and you will be able to reimburse dabs .

I tried it into all available pci slots on a fresh clean install of windows xp even the exclusi've pci slot was used, and even ehen it was in the other pci slots, it was not sharing an irq with anything anyways, it still does it whilst decodint the Dolby Digital Stream.
Have tried the driver updates for the card and it still does it.
    I have the audigy 2 zs platinum witht the li've dri've I/O .
I have taken this card out and put my soundblaster 5. platinum card in, and the li've dri've IR that came with that card, and using the optical in or the coaxial in the same way as the Audigy 2 zs plat li've dri've ,and it decodes the 5. with perfect lip sync, however this is not true dolby digital decdong on the sb 5. card as you have to use the CMSS feature anyways on this card, so even though the ac-3 decode is ticked, it aint true Dolby Digital Decoding anyways.
So i took that card out, and put in my older audigy Platinum 5. card, and teh li've dri've that came with that card, and formatted windows, etc, then after xp went back in installed the audigy drivers etc, then connected the coaxial cable from external dvd player and This also plays the 5. with perfect lip sync, but again however this is not true dolby digital decoding on the audgy card, even tehough the option is selected ac-3 spdif decode in audio hq, You still have to use the CMSS feature to get kind of 5..
I know this to be true as when the 7. Audigy 2 zs plat card is in, when you play dvd from external dvd and use the optical or the coaxial to the fron of the li've dri've that came with audigy 2 zs plat, you get the Dolby Digital Logo appearring on the monitor screen to tell you that it is decoding etc, and teh Quality is very good and you can hear that it is a Dolby Digital 5. stream, APART FROM THE FACT THAT THE AUDIO GOES OUT OF SYNC WITH THE PICTURE.
So I know it has to be down to the actual hardware of the audigy 2 zs plat soundcard or the hardware in the Li've dri've that came with the audigy 2 zs plat soundcard. Its a shame that a lot more people that have bought this pruduct ie the audigy 2 zs platinum version, would not test there li've dri've soundcards dolby digital decoding using an external dvd player, so as we could get a better idea of the problem, AS there are only a couple of other users on this forum that have this harware and they have the same problem, so is it because these cards are faulty, or is it inherint in the hardware that cannot be fixed, cos it aint in the software, but how can we find out when no one seems to be able to tell for sure that a driver update will fix it.
Also Does the Audigy 2 zs platinum Pro suffer from this same lip sync issue whilst using the external dvd players optical out to the optical in to decode dolby digital 5. streams.
Saying as i spent over ?400 on the s750 gigaworks speakers and the Audigy 2 zs platinum soundcard, and that they are only 3-4 months old, and have just been installed into my computer (ie just opened within the last 2 weeks) i am really shocked to learn that nothing can be done and i have wasted a lot of money to get something that cannot do what it is advertised to do, And www.dabs .co.uk are reluctant to refund me my money on the basis that they only do refunds upto 28 days, so in my situation although i purchased the goods 3-4 months ago, i have only just got round to teseting the goods, as i needed the other bits to build computer up , like the case mnotherboard etc etc.
Come on creative, whats the score with this hardware.

  • Time remapping lip sync issue.

I'll try to explain this the best way I know how.
I created a pre-comp for my character mouths (as shown in the picture below). I then created a Null Layer and parented the Time Remapping of the mouth pre-comp to the Null Layer "rotation" using the principals of this video:
Part 1: "Using Time Remapping For Lip-Sync Part 01"
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5GIOtfYWpQ
Part 2: "Using Time Remapping For Lip-Sync Part 02"
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNJgUz1t2rU
I'm sure this is not new.
My problem is that when I render the video the mouths do not reflect what is shown during editing... While I am editing I can ram render a small portion and the mouths will line up as I intend but once I do a final rendering they are slightly off at times... What am I doing wrong here?
The screen shot shows that I am in my 'Mouths, LG' pre-comp and the cursor is situated to show "layer 23" in the "Mouths, LG pre-comp"... Now the preview window is showing one mouth for layer 23 (the wrong mouth) and when I open layer 23 you can see that a different mouth is shown towards the top left side of my attached image. I believe whatever is causing this is the problem but I don't know how to make it right.
I'm running windows 7 64bit if that matters and I am running After Effects CS6 Version 11.0.2.12
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you nesting your Mouths comp in a main comp, enabling Time Remapping on that nested Mouths precomp and then animating?  I can't tell from your screen shots.
And BEFORE nesting it, I'd also make that Mouths comp 1 frame shorter to eliminate that one empty frame at the end.
Nothing like instructions in the wrong sequence, right?

  • Lip Sync Plug in

    Hi,
Has anyone had any good experiences with a specific Lip-Sync tool or Plug in?
I have created a set of PSD files with different mouth positions, showing various Phonemes. I have so far, only played a bit with Magpie - but I believe it is no longer supported or available for purchase. Our characters are still, so the mouth movements must be added in After Effects. I also imported each phoneme PSD file into after effects, layered them one per frame and sequenced them one after the other. I then add them to a background image using time remap. It works pretty well, but is rather time consuiming, and if it has to be done for a few hours of footage, well.... I know nothing comes easy, but that seems a bit rough to me.
Magpie had a pretty interresting export to After effects feature, that allowes the user to export the keyframe settings, and add that to the time remapped layer. Unfortunately, as mentioned, I think Magpie is no longer available.
    Anyway,
Any suggestions from the forum for a good program, or plug in?
    Thanks guys,
    Have a great weekend
    Pierre

    Thanks guys,
What I am looking for, is to put some sort of mouth (I say - "some sort", as I am still proofing either a simple black stripe, warped and distorted to actual mouth images drawn and coloured to match the characters) on our characters and have them speak, not 100% realistic, but to give them a little life. The characters are created from pewter, so movement is not possible on them.
I have seen the tutorial from CreativeCow for the time remapping and it looks like this will be the easiest option. I have done a bit of work with the distortion tools in the past, and it also looks pretty good mind you.....
I found a pretty cool program called Magpie, that allows you to create a set of mouths, then by assigning and tweaking settings, the program can take a section of sound, and automatically assign a mouth image to that section. This would make it nice and easy then, after creating a bunch of mouths to quickly get a list of key-frames to attach to your time remapping effect. The problem is, that Magpie does not seem to be available any more! Pity - are any of you aware of any programs that replace it?
Other than that, I will try some of the mouth tracking suggestions today - hmmm, hours of my own mouth on film - what fun! :-) - and see what sort of effects I can get out of that.
Thanks for the suggestions, and thanks for the links - Ill try it all out and report back on what I found to be the best way forward (just for anyone who is interrested *even if that person exists only in my own head!* )
    cheers
    Pierre

  • No lip sync

    Hi pals,
I use a 60GB video ipod..i conect it to my tv to watch videos..Lately while trascoding videos with videora i have been experincing a problem wit the sound..the sound n lip sync are not in synchronisation..this happens only towards the later half of the movie..the sync. is perfect at the start and the trascoded video starts to loose sync as the movie progresses..it never happened before..but lately it is happening with every video i trascode..any solution..

That is a very well known issue with videora.
    Use something else.
It is also possible that there are time code issues with the file itself that are not apparent during playback of the original. Might check whatever transcoder you use to see if it gives option to fix time code breaks(mpeg streamclip does).

  • New iTunes 6.02 AND new QuickTIme 7.04 Video Sound Problems

Hi, I had updated my iTunes for Windows 6.01 and Quick Time 7.03 to the newest versions. The new software both yield the same issue for me. They will not play videos with sound properly. When I am on Quick Time and click to play a *.mov that I have had way before iTunes or iPod, and any other playable movies in Quick Time, the video starts, there is no sound for a few seconds and then this clicking sound starts. For instance if I had a movie that is abour 20 seconds long, it will never get the synced sound with it. Let's say the first sentence would be Hi, how are you today-----------------it sounds like this: Huh-huh-huh-huh-huh-huh-huh-huh-huh-huh-huh-how-how-how-how-how-how-how-how-how -how-how-how-how-how-how-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er-e r-u-u-u-u-u-uu--u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u--u-u-u. I think you get the point. If this is a video with just sound and no spoken word in the video, it also sounds chopy, clicky, and vibrating like that and over the course of 20 seconds plays this out like this, when is should be the correct maybe 3 second part.
This also is the same exact thing that happens in the new iTunes. Exactly. Whether it is downloaded from the iTunes Store or imported in, or even converted with the new convert to iPod option.
The only good thing is when I put the 4 new movies on my iPod that I had converted form *.mov format with the new convert to iPod option, they play just fine on the the iPod which has the software version 1.0 software on it, not the newest firmware. But as I said nothing plays correctly soundwise from videos from the iTunes Software.
I tried uninstalling both new versions and reinstalling them with the same problem. I therefore uninstalled them again and installed iTunes 6.01 back on my computer and thus QuickTime 7.03 and there are no problems at all with either older version of iTunes or QuickTime.
Please advise. It this a diagnosed problem as of yet???
