Animation Plan of Attack

I'm looking to do an effect where I use a company's logo (with a black center) as a transition. I'd like to have the logo enlarge until it looks as though individual pixels appear, but those pixels will turn out to be video clips. I was thinking of duplicating 25 clips or so to make it look like more since they would quickly be moved off-screen as the shot zoomed in on a single clip to start the next session.
Right now, I'm planning on an animation in photoshop with each frame enlarging, then fading in a layer with a patchwork over the original logo.
However, it occurred to me that with all the experience on this board, someone might have a better way of doing this.
Any suggestions for this effect? I have FCS2 as well as Shake and any advice would be appreciated.
Lawrence

It worked out great!
That was what I needed. Although I haven't finished the whole thing, it's definitely the answer I needed.
And, as I zoom in on the logo, I can use rendered clips of the replicated 16 because they will be even smaller.
So I will have the 16 which will be enlarged until they fill the screen. Then, the camera will turn and see all the clips laid out as a wall. But instead of sliding the camera forward, I will have the screens keyframed to start sliding across the screen, giving the viewer the feeling he is moving forward beside a wall of screens moving past him on his left.
From there, the camera can turn back to the screen and I will have already keyframed a full-res screen to be enlarged. This is going to allow me to get this animation done. Sorry if the question seemed remarkably silly, but I'm really pretty new to motion.
Thanks again for the help!

  • Slow Leopard, possible plan of attack...

I have Leopard running on an iMac G5 1.8 GHz PPC with 2 GB of ram. My Canon LiDE 35 scanner and Canon iP6600D printer work fine. But Leopard is much slower on my system than Tiger.
Plan of attack: 1. create a bootable backup of Leopard 10.5.1
    2. erase and install Leopard
    3. bring over apps, docs, etc from firewire HD during install
    4. update to 10.5.1
Sound OK? Feel free to give suggestions to help my slow Leopard OS.

I'm glad it worked out well.
The idea of starting in Safe Mode is that it runs a directory check and eliminates everything but Apple installed startup items, fonts other than System/Library and other items. It often helps to isolate an issue. (But not his time).
The re-install you did was probably best and easiest way to handle it. When you update use the 10.5.1 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update (the one from software update) so it should overwrite any files may still be damaged or missing.

  • HP Pavilion TX1000 Tablet PC - Replacing the fan (Qs and my plan of attack)

Alright, so I finally got my HP Pavilion TX1000 tablet PC that I mentioned about when I asked a week or two ago about the 3G module. It works quite well, even if it does show it's age, I'm happy with it. One thing I noticed about it was that it heats up quite a lot when sitting idle.
The buyer noted in his listing that the fan might need replacing. It turns out that the system is cooking itself since it doesn't have any exhaust fan sucking the heat out of the vents as the fan is seized. This means when the laptop gets around 70*C, the BIOS safety temperature watchdog kicks in and kills the laptop until the laptop's internal thermal sensor has detected a safe temperature. Judging from Speedfan readings before the laptop shut down, this overheating issue popped it's head up around 70*C.
I got a friend to drop in his MacBook cooler that he uses, and I have it plugged into a USB socket. It is keeping the HP Tablet in a safe (but still warm) 60*C-ish temperature rage. I also got a portable AA-battery powered fan and aimed the fan at the vents, which meant I was "blasting" cool air into the vents. This kept the system down around 45 - 50*C.
I took the laptop apart partially (well, not a complete teardown but enough to see it's fan when it's switched on to see if it's spinning, and I can confirm the fan is not spinning at all, not even when the CPU is really hot, it's just stationary. I looked around and didn't see any wires stuck in the fan or anything, so I'm assuming the fan is seized up (or burnt out).
I've ordered this replacement fan off eBay for my tablet. Spare part number matches apparently: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300749320112 .
Now, my question is, is it possible that laptop fans can be seize up in rare events? Don't shun me away and say "Oh no, it would never happen", because fans are moving parts and could seize up if subjected to a lot of heat. I know the TX1000 series are known for overheating woes, so I'm going to ask you this - In your experience, have you seen fans failing, and if so, could a seized motor be the cause?
I am going to follow this guide once the fan arrives (http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/hewlett-packard/8875-modding-tx1000-part-1-changing-thermal-compound...) because I heard that black paint on the heatsink assembly does nothing to help keep the CPU cool, and if I remove it, I can get a 5 - 10*C CPU temperature droppage. Which is good because I don't want it to be burning my hands if I'm using it to jot notes down!
Alright, so that's my plan of attack. Suggestions? Opinions? Encouragement?

Should be able to answer your own question by physically trying to rotate the blades with a thin tool or blowing into the blades & if bearings good it should rotate easily.
bearings fail, fan motor/boards fail, mainboard control & power can also fail !
Most modern equipment has almost no real effort in proper thermal control so some modifications may help but you will be limited in what is achievable on a finished product.
Here in Asia we have done a lot of notebook cooling mod combo's such as vent increases, thermal shims, quality thermal grease & secondary 25 to 30mm 5v case venting fans with internal porting & baffles to help good airflow/heat extraction with great results in reducing overheating & component failure ...
Should be done at the factory !
For $10 of parts we reduced a custom dv2500 with T770 & Nvidea graphics by 25% & made the machine reliable & feel safe rather than a lap microwave ...

  • Plan Of Attack......

    Greetings...
I have been a professional videographer for close to 30 years.  Mostly a shooter in the corporate/industrial and event arenas but I also edited on 3/4" tape and know the storytelling and pacing aspects of post...I can read waveform/vectorscopes. I am most proficient on Logic, as I am a musician. So I just got Final Cut Studio 7 but when I heard FCPX was coming out I put my learning on hold with 7.....I am not bad on 7( I have a ways to go) but I am a one man operation and don't forsee hiring myself out as an editor...So my question is Should I partition the drive and download FCPX or un-install and sell Studio 7 and forget learning it, or should push on with 7. I don't have any editing jobs right now but I know I need to add post to my services. I have 2 mini-dv cameras(not HD) but customers want HD so I have no problem buying new cameras with sd cards.....Interested in your thoughts........Thanks

FCP X will handle your media so that does not seem like a problem.  One of the remaining things to look at would be whether you plan to work together with others who might use FCP 7.  If you do all your work yourself, and have no need to bring in FCP 7 material, it seems like it might be okay.  Then, while there are ways to workaround multicamera support in FCP X, it is not as easy as it was in FCP 7 ... so that might be an issue.  Having said that, there are ways to do multicam in FCP X, and Apple has said they plan on having it in FCP X.  I also am a one man post production setup, and I was at a convenient stopping place when I switched.  I decided to learn FCP X because I considered that was the future.  Despite the fact that the "leading edge" can become the "bleeding edge" for early adaptors, I made the plunge.  While still learning, I am happy I did. The metaphor for working is different, and the tools are different, but I have not yet seen any show stoppers for doing complete projects as long as legacy stuff is not involved.  IMHO. Best wishes.

  • Multiple instruments; same test. Best plan of attack?

I'm looking for some information on design structure dealing with multiple instruments that do the same thing but require different command sets. Specifically I have an application running tests via VISA GPIB using an Agilent PNA. My current application uses a queued state machine with two loops; one taking care of the GUI and another taking care of the states; works like a champ and is easy to add new tests. But I have been asked to migrate the current tests to different flavors of network analyzer specifically old school HP8510 and some non-hp gear. Some tests are very complicated and have a couple dozen steps with numerous sub vi's to take care of all the commands and data formatting. We do not want separate applications; I have to identify what is connected and sequence the test accordingly to attain the correct results.
I'm looking for links, suggestions, or recommended reading to deal with such things and to maintain maintainability.
What I have been able to find is hit and miss with some reading pointing towards using a separate state-loop for each instrument and others just added more and more states to existing state machine.
    All opinions / ideas welcome.

    Good suggestions.
SCPI is great but some of the instruments are 20 years old and things like getting bandwith numbers are more complicated in the older equipment. I'm still fighting with people to stop using low level GPIB commands and just use VISA.
My understanding of the replies lies in writing a subset of vi's for each piece of equipment while reusing the common commands (Like writing an overloaded function in .NET land?).
A simple flow diagram of what would occur would be as below if I'm understanding the suggestions -
    - Front panel for user to select required test.
    - Query what instruments are connected and decide if hardware is available to run such test.
    - Using VI's libraries I will create to perform each test; select the proper set and run the test. (I would still use a QSM type design to easily facilitate changes down the road).
    - Everything would be invisable to the end user; they are just selecting a test; all front panels will be standard regardless of instrument. They would only differ by the selected test.
Am I on the right track? I'm a VB.NET transplant trying to not get on the "wall of shame" of labview code. LOL.

    Hi Chris,
This is similar to a Q posted on LAVA earlier this week that can befound here. In that thread Aristos Queue (father of VLOOP LV OOP) outlined some classes to utilize Dynamic Dispatching (choose the sub-VI to run based on the class selected). Conciering your background, that thread may work for you.

  • Need GUI "plan of attack" suggestions

I'm looking for suggestions on going about a chess board gui. I want this to look nice, not cheaply done, since it will be used with several different side projects I am beginning to work on such as an correspondance chess client and notation converters.
I would prefer the pieces to be "drag and drop", all ideas are fine with me though. Resizeable is also desired.
I wasn't sure what the best way to go about it was as far as having many panels, or one big canvas, etc, etc. I haven't dealt with drag and drop with java before, so i'm really not sure what the best things to use are as far as the inner work or even the best type of images for it. Any suggestions will help.
A board functioning much like the one from games.yahoo.com/ch would be best.
It needs to be able to have custom positions built as well, and scroll through to earlier parts of the game, and possibly through different branches.
Any GUI experts out there know a good way of tackling this side of the project?

I'd probably make a GridLayout of panels. You can use a MouseListener
to tell which panel you're over for picking up/moving pieces. You can render
pieces as images on top of the panel, and drag/drop similarly to:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/2d/images/doublebuffering.html
When they drop a piece, you can ask the listener what cell you're over,
erase your floating image, and dump it into the center of that cell.
Of course, that's with 20 seconds of thought.

  • Multiple Animations for a single MovieClip sprite

Ok, after hours of exhausting searching, and having to learn how to animate a simple sprite for the 100th time, I hope I might found I more specific, and better explained answer to my problem.
I'm trying to make a flash game, of course, and I want my main Player sprite to be able to play multiple animations based on specific input. So, a running right animation, a running left animation, a jump animation, and an attack animation.
At the moment, the most I can seem to achieve is to create a single timeline, with a default frame in the exact middle. Then when player holds left, it plays the previous frame, or scrolls backwards through the timeline. When the Right key is held, it plays forward from the default middle.
It's ugly and extremely limited. I've tried using the gotoAndStop() and gotoAndPlay() methods, but because the statement checking for the key being pressed is constantly being checked, it will stay on the frame chosen for those methods, rather than move forward along the time line.
I would greatly appreciate a better method for this, or a more specific tutorial to achieve the goal i'm looking for.
I've seen mention of the attachMovie() method, but I can not find an understandable explanation of how to properly use it in the way I desire.
essentially, the sprite will have the default standing frame while no keys are pressed. Then, if the right key is down, it plays the running right animation. When the left key is down, it plays the running left animation. When the jump key is pressed, it plays the jump animation. And when the attack key is pressed, it plays the attack animation.
I hope that's enough information and that it's understandable, if not, let me know what more you need to know and I'll do my best to explain it more.

You can do this a number of ways but I will try to explain the what I think is the easiest.
    Step 1
Draw a box on the stage
    Step 2
convert this into a movieclip (F8), name this myCharacter (or anything you want really), then press ok. Now select this movieClip and in the properties dialogue box, type "box", again, without the quotes. Then press enter.
    Step 3
Double click this new movieClip (this should take you into this movieClip timeline)
    Step 4
Now press F6, 3 times. This wil give you 3 additional key frames on this timeline. You should now have 4 key frames.
    |Step 5
Select key frame 1 on this timeline and press F8. Type into the diag box "standing", without the quotes. Then select the Movie Clip radio button, if it is not already selected.
    Step 6
    Step 12
Make sure  your library is in view, if not Ctrl+L. You should see the movement clips you created, running_right, running_left, etc. Double Click any one of these and add the animation your want in these movs.
There we go, simples.....Test you animation and see how you are doing.
Select key frame 2 on this timeline and press F8. Type into the diag box "running_right", without the quotes. Then select the Movie Clip radio button, if it is not already selected.
    Step 7
Select key frame 3 on this timeline and press F8. Type into the diag box "running_left", without the quotes. Then select the Movie Clip radio button, if it is not already selected.
    Step 8
Select key frame 4 on this timeline and press F8. Type into the diag box "jumping", without the quotes. Then select the Movie Clip radio button, if it is not already selected.
Great, once you have done this, these new movieClips should now have appeared in your library (press Ctrl+L if you cannot see your library)
Ok then you have just created your movement MovieClip. You now need to get back to the main timeline. You can just keep on clicking the stage to get back to this location. Once there you need to select the box you have just created and name this "box" for the time being.
Ok then a little bit of programming now.
Step 9Create a new layer in the timeline and name it scripts.
Step 10Then select this layer and press F9 on your keyboard. THis should bring up the scripting pane for this frame.
Step 11Type in the following code
box.stop();// when you run this animation, this command will stop your box from doing anything
var keyBoardListener:Object = new Object();// Creates a new Object for the keyboard presses
    keyBoardListener.onKeyDown = function() {
if (Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) {// runnning LEFT action
_root.box.gotoAndStop(3);// Frame where the running right animation is
} else if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)) {// running RIGHT action
_root.box.gotoAndStop(2);// Frame where the running right animation is
    } else if (Key.isDown(Key.UP)) {// JUMPING action
_root.box.gotoAndStop(4);// Frame where the JUMPING animation is
    keyBoardListener.onKeyUp = function() {
_root.box.gotoAndStop(1);// When the keys are released, this action takes your animation back to frame 1, where your character is just standing still.
Key.addListener(keyBoardListener);// this assigns the listener to your key press detection Object.
    Step 12
Edit the action movs within your library by double clicking each one and adding movement to each. Then test your animation.

  • Strategy, Planning and Managing bulk updates to large fleet of Windows Servers 2003-2012

a major project at my new job using SCCM is to push out in an organised fashion updates to its fleet of 500+ windows servers. Numbers: 50+ 2003, 50 x 2008, 200x 2008r2, 200x 2012.
This is spread across DC's, File/print, Exchange, Lync, FIM, App, SQL, Orchestrator, with many clustered/NLB, others not.
I am struggling to piece together a plan to attack which server first, in an organised, planned fashion but using collections and SCCM. We also have Orchestrator, although I am not that experienced in using it (but it may server my purposes better?)
I have already downloaded one software update group for all O/S: Server 2003- Server 2012.
I am only interested in the BASE Operating System (Server core, not Application, like exchange/lync).
What are at least the basic principle i should adhere to (ie. target non-critical first)?
Can I deploy updates to all at once, suppressing restart, and then just manage the restart process in a managed/documented fashion?
Can I, should I, depend on SCCM to process updates during assigned maintenance window, to apply updates and then initiate restart at deadline? (This hasnt worked as intended during workstation update deployment).
Should I use powershell/Orchestrator to control reboot process more precisely?
What groups of servers can i manage together and automate restarts during service windows etc.
Thanks in advance. links to blogs/articles are welcome (i found hardly any useful).

    Hi Maxwell,
To deploy the updates in SCCM, please follow this article, we can specify the download behaviour and deadline behaviour of installation in the "Deploy Software Updates Wizard":
    SCCM 2012 - Deploying Updates
Q: How do I automatically approve and deploy updates with System Center Configuration Manager 2012
If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.

  • What is your Premiere, After Effects and SpeedGrade Workflow?

    Hi Everyone,
I am an experienced editor who's switched to Adobe's CC barely a year ago. At the moment I'm in the midst of finishing up a corporate project and trying to think of the best workflow between Premiere, After Effects and SpeedGrade. I'm loving the Dynamic Link workflows, but at the some time I'm facing some obstacles, and am wondering how you guys do your work.
Let's say I finished the edit of the project and send the project via Dynamic Link to SG. I finish the grade and then decide to use the Dynamic Link to AE to add some titles with shapes and effects such as Fast Blur. This is where I'm facing the first problem. When I choose a clip to be 'Replaced with an AE Composition', the color correction is gone, and now if I grade in SG, it will naturally grade the titles I added. So, it seems as though my color grade is a waste of time and I have to do it the old school way of first absolutley completing the color grade, exporting, re-importing and then heading for titles and effects. That makes you lose quite a bit of "dynamics" in your work (and time aka money), if my clients want changes for example.
For simple animations with text, and shapes, this is not a big issue since you could easily add the titles to a second Video track. But when you use After Effects which changes the acutal image of a clip by adding effects, things don't work out too easily. But in any case, these might just be the limitations to the relativley new Dynamic Link workflow.
In my specific example, how would you go about it? What is your workflow? Maybe I'm missing out on some tips & tricks.
Be happy to hear from you guys and maybe get some expert knowledge.
    Best,
    fabian

    Hey there,
I'm also looking for a solid workflow solution since adopting (and actually really liking) Speedgrade.  So below is what I'm going to try which should work and will follow this thread to see if any other workflows pop up.  Also typing this out here to help me with plan of attack
Project Specs - 3 minute corporate video with text animation, interviews, broll, and computer screen replacement
    Edit in Premiere
Dynamic link to SpeedGrade for color correction
Open back up in Premiere, confirm all color corrections are applied, and then duplicate sequence to an AE Prep extension
In AE prep sequence, take all AE "base" shots (for computer screen composite or anything needing stabilization) up onto their own track (i.e. V5 & V6)
Add 10 frame handles to in & out, checkerboard clips as needed
Delete all other remaining content but keep blank spaces / no ripple deletes
Export this out to a ProRes4444 QT movie
Import ProRes4444 QT movie back into premiere, add over existing video layers in AE Prep extension sequence, and then there time out the screen shot replacement content to cover effect duration
Dynamic link AE Prep Premiere Pro sequence to AE
    Do the AE work
    Dynamic link back to Premiere
    DoneHopefully
This was my similar work around back in the day before I had Automatic Duck in FCP to AE
Hope this helps anyone else - if there are any glaring "why would you do all that" points - please let me know   I'll also report back if there are any horrible roadblocks throughout the process.

  • Running a java program a set number of times

This is a general question. Is it possible to make a java program run only 5 times for the sake of arguement.
Basically I want to write a program that will give the user some flexibility when it will actually run another Java program, but I only want them to be able to say "not now' for a set number of times. When the last time comes the other program will launch. I was initially thinking of the Do Whilw loop, but this needs to work when the program is restarted.
Program starts, it has 5 times it will run before it does something else(doesn't really matter now I think). User takes option "Not Now" and the program ends, but warns the user this will run 4 more times before you will need to do something.
This process will repeat until the user takes the option "Ok install now" or the time limit expires and the install occurs anyway. Can someone point me in the right direction.

ok I see so it's like one those programs that you download for free on the internet and they give you a set amount times to use it before you have to pay for it. but in this case when the number of times you use it equals 5 (or when the user clicks ok) a different java app will open automatically.
My first thought would be to Write a Serialized object to disk using objectOutputStream that stores the number of times the application has been opened. and each time the program runs it checks for the serialized object and then you can do something like what I posted before. of course if were worried about security the user could always look for the object and erase it, if so then I guess we would have to come up with another plan of attack
    Hope this helps

  • Load Rule validates, yet no data values modified

The load rule worked on a server running an NT operating system with essbase version 6.1.3. I rebuilt the application on a server running W2k with an essbase version 6.1.6. The load rule validates on the new server. The load looks as if it is loading correctly. When I check out the log file, it shows a warning number 1003035 with a message stating "No data values modified by load of this data file." Any ideas??? Creating a new load rule from scratch did not work. My next plan of attack is to check out the actual txt file to see if anything looks odd.

Have you got any record select or record reject statements in your rules?

  • IWeb will NOT open domain package, tried many things.

I hope someone can help me. I searched the forum several times and went through all six pages of results looking for an answer. I did try everything listed in the few posts that did seem related, as well as a lot of those tips in combination with others, but nothing has helped.
Problem: After an AppleStore hard drive replacement, I copied things over from my Time Machine backup, as well as a backup of the more important things on another external drive. I copied things very peacemeal, basically starting from scratch for a few weeks to make sure the problem I was having was gone. (It's not, but that's a story for another day). When it came time to copy over my domain file and open it, it wouldn't open with iWeb. That is to say, doubleclicking it would open iWeb, but even watching activity monitor like a hawk, I couldn't see that it was doing anything.
Here is what I HAVE tried:
1 - deleted current domain file, and copied old one in it's place. No change.
2 - emptied the folder usually used to hold the domain, opened iWeb to create a new one. Close iWeb, copy domain to desktop, then copy the old one in it's place. No change.
3 - delete preferences and caches for iWeb, then repeat step 2. No change.
4 - delete preferences and caches for iWeb, then delete any combination of the following from the domain package: .plist files, domainstate.archive file, index.xml file. I tried this step about six times, with a different combination of these files each time, finishing with a repeat of step 2, and testing it. The only combinations that had any change were leaving only the index.xml file in the package, which got me about a second-long loading bar, then nothing, and leaving both the index.xml and the domainstate.archive in the package, which got iWeb to peak around 90-110% CPU (on activity monitor), flash the app not responding message a few times, then about 10 seconds later, it started idling again, nothing having opened.
Each time I've tried both opening iWeb first, and then actually doubleclicking the domain package. No difference between them. Then I copied the iWeb app from the time machine backup into my documents folder, and manually tried to open the domain package, with .plists missing, with that copy of iWeb. No change there either.
Both copies of iWeb, the one that last saved to the domain, and the one I'm trying to open it with, are the same version. I don't even been an OS update since it was last saved; I'm pretty sure I was on 10.6.4 then too.
I'm a little hung on what to do next. There isn't much in the domain package that could be causing issues except for the ones I tried copying out; everything else is just pretty standard file types.
That said, I'm not sure what could be causing the issue on the iWeb end, since I not only deleted the preferences and caches, but also tried a whole different application file.
I am planning to do a clean install on this computer, yet again, and start from scratch in hopes I can pinpoint what is causing my (unrelated to this issue) problem, for the Apple tech guys.
Should I just do another Time Machine backup with this new image, as well as keeping the old one, and then try to copy it over again when I've re-installed? I was hoping not to have to do it for another few weeks, because I'll need another external, since this one is out of space, but I also need to be able to edit this site!
Any help anyone has, even it's just a hunch of a suggestion, would be fantastic, and very appreciated. At this point, I'll try anything that won't damage any of my data, no matter how far-fetched.
    Thanks!

It sounds as if the problems, or the symptoms at least, are the same. When I double click the domain file, iWeb opens (with the open/welcome/tutorial screen if I've just deleted preference and cache files), and I'll get the menu bar, but nothing else. With the right combination of files removed from the domain package (see my previous posts for that), I can coax a loading bar out of it, but it "loads" in the normal few seconds, and nothing displays. Nada. Menu bar has iWeb, but almost all of the items in any drop down menu are greyed out, all the important ones I checked for anyway, and you can see either the desktop or finder window, or whatever other application that was open before you clicked the domain file.
I'm not sure I included this in my last post, but I did try just simply disabling MobileMe, but without any luck. I never really thought it would work, but figured it could never hurt to try.
The disk utility found a few permissions problems, but none were related to iWeb, they all actually seemed to stem from one thing. I did repair, but no improvement. I'm hoping to have some time this weekend to try some different things to see if I can get it to open. I'll keep a detailed list of what seemed to help, what didn't, and if I'm lucky, what solved it. Short of that, free time allowing, I plan to do a clean install I need to do for another reason, on Sunday. Unfortunately that means you guys won't get any details as to what would have solved it short of something drastic like that (hopefully that will solve it...) but I've got deadlines approaching, not only for that, but for the initial reason for the clean install.
I will try everything I can think of, and anything anyone else can think of, and will volunteer to me. I'm going to move enough files around this evening and tomorrow on my externals to do a full time machine backup, plus second backup of the more important files, so anything you want to suggest, I'll be a testing ground, so others with the issue hopefully won't have to resort to the clean install. As re-installing iWeb had no effect, I'm going to assume, with my limited knowledge in this area, that problem stems from a shared file or the domain package itself. Hopefully not the latter; it's all I've got.
Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions of even something to look for that might serve to flag my attention to investigate further, I'd appreciate it, so we can get a solid plan of attack for others.
Thanks for your help so far, everyone!

no, that's not a reason you would use a class file.
anyway, your document class variables are defined on the main timeline so to reference them from any timeline you can use:
MovieClip(root).w36;  // for example  (but it's really undesirable to have coding in more than one timeline)

  • Hp c7180. Test page has got lines across text and colours.

My Hp photosmart c7180 is not printing to a good quality.
My problems started when the cleaning mechanism was not able to go back to the home position and this then caused the print head to slam up to the cleaning mechanism (there is two plastic tabs that it hit). I then went inside the machine and found that the cleaning mechanism is on a runner with the rubber and a few other things. I freed up this mechanism and got it to slide up and down several times. i then put the machine back together printed a test page and the inks were very faint. After cleaning the head and doing an alignment several times, the inks are becoming more clear but still not right. There is a lot of lines through the text and the blocks of colour.
I did a print of a page of small text and the quality was fine. I printed a picture in greyscale and it has greens and reds in it. Also the larger text is blurred on some lines (not all the text on the same line is blurred)
What do i do now ??
There is also a roller that is spinning more than it used to. This is located underneath the print head towards the back of the printer.( It is connected to the little cogs on the left which pump the ink to the heads i think) Any suggestions on this would also be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Stephen

Thank you for the detailed post rileyc.
I would like to help you with the printing issue you are experiencing. I understand the issue seems to be related to the ink system or potentially the driver. The best plan of attack is to narrow down the root cause.
Can you please perform a colour copy that contains black spots too? I would like to see if the printer hardware can duplicate a page without any quality issues. Please let me know the outcome of the copy and we can go from there. Thanks
