Animation Plays Differently in Captivate

I'm looking for ideas about why an animation (.swf) might
play differently in a published Captivate Flash movie than it does
in Internet Explorer itself or in PowerPoint.
I'm using Ho Technologies MP3 To SWF converter to package
.wav files into animations that include a vcr control and then
inserting the animation into a Captivate 2 slide. The animation
includes a progress bar (looks like the progress bar on a Captivate
Skin's Playback control). The animation's progressbar lets the user
scroll forward or back in the animation.
It works as expected except that in a published Captivate
movie the animation's progress bar appears to be about twice as
long as the audio. The progress button only moves about 50% of the
way by the time that the audio finishes. If I tug the progress
button beyond the 50% mark and hit the play button, the animation
only rewinds, as if the audio content has already been passed.
But, if I link the same animation to a PowerPoint slideshow
or view the animation in Internet Explorer the progress bar behaves
properly.
I'm using the most recent Flash Player Version 9,0,47,0 with
Captivate 2.
Here's what I've tried so far, with exactly the same results:
Publish in Flash 6, 7, or 8.
Adjust the frame rate to be the same (24) when I create the
swf and when I publish the Captivate movie.
Any other things to try or suggestions would be welcome.

Hoo Technologies answered promptly to say it can't be fixed
(see below for details). I'll experiment with the shell swf, which
as I recall produces a companion file like Captivate's .htm file.
But since my need is for a swf that I can embed in the Captivate
slide, it probably won't get me anywhere.
I got three files with the email, track_volume_time.fla,
track_bar.fla, and track_volume.fla. I assume I'd need Flash --
which I don't have -- to open them only to find out that I
certainly can't fix them without enrolling in Flash University for
a couple of years.
So, since I need an audio playbar and use the Hoo Tech
converter, I guess I'll include a text caption that points midway
along the progress bar and states, "Audio ends here". I can already
hear the client's feedback. Ouch!
Anyone got a rescue?
Hi Phil,
A software engineer of ours reviewed the SWF you attached and
checked the source file of SWF player of the MP3 to SWF Converter.
He told me the problem cannot be fixed by us. As the SWF player
doesn't use "_root" object that may cause unexpected problem, but
uses "_parent" object instead. The "_parent" object is safe. I
attached source files of track players.
One suggestion, you can try to use the shell SWF to check if
it works normal in Captivate.

  • How to play different HTML 5 animations interactively.

    Hi all,
    I have created 5 different animations in Edge Animate. and now i want to play each animation one by one , everytime user clicks on the screen.
    What should i do?
    i created a new file to assemble different animations (EXPORTED symbols) .
    STEP 2 : I placed all the animations sequentially over the timeline and added a STOP trigger between every two animations.
    STEP3: I added an action -PLAY over every animation.
    Now what happening is : First animation Plays well --- It stops --- now when i click on the screen -- the next animation appears like a thumbnail...( ALL STATIC ) and so on..
    Am i approaching this the wrong way.
    It would be very great if i can get a solution ...

    Just one more query.
    The sample u provided solved my entire user-interactivity and animation part.
    i even published and tested my web application on different devices and it runs nicely.
    The new problem is that audio file is not working on i-pad and i-phone. The sound works only on windows.
    I went through other discussions on the forums also and found that sound would not play on ios
    is there anyway i can enable sounds on ipad/iphone ??

  • Animated GIF. problems in Captivate

    I have been trying to bring in an Animated GIF. into my
    Captivate presentation.
    When I import the animation using Insert> Animation it
    converts the animated gif to a swf file.
    In the preview screen it shows my animated gif with multiple
    colors flashing over and over. It is doing this to all of the
    animated gifs that I am bringing in. My fps is set to 10 within
    Captivate.
    Is there frame restrictions or file size restrictions that is
    causing this error when bringing in an animated gif. Any
    suggestions?

    Hi mikeygilbert23_nap and welcome to our community
    Unfortunately, there are a few different methods used to
    create animated .GIFs. One would think all of them would be created
    simply using different images. Largely this is true. But some
    animation programs allow you to choose different methods for the
    way the screen is painted between frames. Sounds like you may be
    seeing this behavior.
    Not sure what to advise as to how to work past it though.
    Sorry. Hopefully one of the others has a clue.

  • Animated Gif files in Captivate

    I have created an animated GIF file in Photoshop that i want to use in my captivate file.
    The file wont preview in any of the preview modes other than the HTML5 output preview. All other previews just show the first frame of the GIF file.
    If i chose to SWAP the animation with another GIF from the library the preview shows the animation playing.. see attached
    Is there something im doing wrong here.
    I guess i could upload my final file to the LMS with HTML5 output as this preview shows the animation but i also read there are limitations with this output as some transitions / effects dont work.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes, you can verify whether your GIF would fucntion correctly on HTML5 platform by Window--HTML5 Tracker Pod.
    I am not an expert on Photoshop, but still would like to make a recommendation.
    Set the 'delay' value for each of your Frame to 0.01 or some value if it shows as 0, this can be done using the animation frame Window. Save it as GIF again for Web Devices and import in Captivate, see, if you are abale to preview this time.

  • Inserted swf animation plays slowly 50% of the time.

    Hi, I am currentlyhaving a problem where i am trying to add a swf file animation to a captivate 6 project.
    the swf is made in flash 4 and is at most 2mb big.
    there is lots of moving things in the swf file.
    Basically, when i add the swf to any project (heavily tested) or even a blank project:
    the cpu jumps to 45%ish
    the animation plays slowly at points or constantly, if i move forward a page, then move back it pretty much always is smooth like it should be but if i go to next page then back again, this time it could be slow.  there seems to be no tangible pattern to whether or not the animation will run choppy or smooth.
    My animation originally was in layers, i systematically broke it all down so that everything moving is on the first layer now.
    There's a lot of masks in my animation.
    Both captivate and flash are/were set to 30 fps.
    I have been trying to fix this for weeks now but to no avail, i have exhausted every bit of advice i can find. 
    Remember, the problem still persists even on a blank project.
    If anyone can help me, that would be greatly apppreciated.  I will be around for the next hour then on again tomorow (and the day after, and the day after)

    ok, i got into contact with adobe.  Afer about 30 mins it seems the problem is only when i preview, when i actually publish the project, it is fine. 
    So for other people experiencing this problem, publish your project (even publish a dummy copy) and test that if your previews are playing back slowly and unpredictably.  I get the feeling this is a problem thats been happening with a lot of people because nobody wants to publish something that doesnt seem to be working.

  • Animation - plays in larger size than specified

    Has anyone experienced this issue, or can please advise me on
    what I can do?
    I have inserted several swf animations into a course, and the
    animation has been specified in constraints as 300 x 300. The
    constraints are also "locked" at 300 x 300.
    When I run the course, the animation plays at a larger size,
    "spilling" outwards in all 4 directions, so that I can see the all
    the rough edges of the animation. I guess that what I see is what a
    Flash programmer would see when editing the animation in Flash.

    I have to wonder what you mean by "rough edges of the
    animation," and constraints locked at 300 x 300.
    If you want the finished project to display at 300 x 300
    pixels, then you must define that 300 x 300 area at the very
    beginning. Then, only images 300 x 300 or smaller can be brought
    into the project.
    When you publish the project as an SWF, then it will only
    display 300 x 300 pixels. The HTML file Captivate publishes along
    with the SWF (assuming you allowed that) embeds the movie with the
    300 x 300 dimensions within the browser. If you choose not to
    publish the HTML file, then opening the SWF directly will generally
    cause it to fill the browser window, as you seemed to describe.
    The "rough edges" thing really has me perplexed. It's almost
    as if you expect to be able to mask off a portion of the screen and
    see only that masked area -- not the full dimensions of the movie.
    That's definitely not possible in Captivate.
    If I misunderstand what your problem is, you might try
    again.

  • Why does the same clip play differently each time I play it?

    Playing a flash animation clip in Adobe Media Player plays differently each time I play it.  I'm looking at animation we made that has a left to right move.  Sometimes it plays smoothly, other times it stutters, but the stutters happen at different points each time I play it, and the amount of stuttering changes each time I play it.  I'm trying to decide if the file is acceptable to post on the web, so I'm playing the same 34 second file from my hard drive, each time in succession, yet each play is different.  Boy, if you can help me with this I would sure appreciate it, as it is driving me crazy.  (The same thing happens on other flash players).  And no, the file isn't haunted...

    Hello and thank you for trying to help me out. When I click on the itunes icon on my desktop, it does the preparing to install.... on my laptop, when I click on the icon, itunes opens automatically. I really can't figure out why one does this and the other does not.
    Apparently, I was not having trouble connecting to the itunes store like I thought. Many other people complain of the same problem I had---the connecting to the itunes store progress bar goes halfway, stops, and then all I see is a blank white page that says itunes store. Well, after playing around, and clicking on VIEW and SHOW sidebar browser, I was able to see the itunes store! Yay!! It was so simple, it was unreal that so many people are having the same problem I thought I was having, connecting, when all that was was a VIEW issue.
    As far as my desktop doing the preparing to install, I don't get it. I have uninstalled itunes9 and redownloaded it, reinstalled it. Same problem. Preparing to install. No matter what itunes icon I click on, or even if I click ont he application itself from it's folder. Any ideas?
    So just forget about my connection problem---it was not a problem after all. Yet one pc does preparing to install when the itunes icon is clicked on, and the other pc does not. Both are running windows vista home premium. One is a desktop, one a laptop. I can't figure it out.

  • Audio tracks playing different audio tracks - routing issue?

    I'm having trouble with some routing issues I believe. Here's the deal:
    Some audio tracks are playing different audio tracks, when that region is not even in it. For instance:
    Track #2 is Soloed. Output is Output 1-2. I hear the audio file that is in Track #1, which is NOT Soloed and I shouldn't even hear. I don't hear anything from Track #2. The only way I can hear Track #2 is by playing it from the audio bin, which obviously isn't going to work out right.
    If I drag the audio region of Track #2 to a brand new audio track, I still don't hear anything. Is it possible this audio file(s) got corrupted somehow?
    Please help!

    Check the parameters, in the left side of the arrange page window.
    To me, it sounds as if you have a bunch of arrange tracks, which are all playing back through audio track #1.

    I know you can select the different speakers to play the music to, but wondered if you can also push different music to different speakers at the same time ?
    If not is there a way around this other than going for something like Sonos ?

  • Adding animated cartoon characters in Captivate 5

    Does anyone know if it is possible add animated cartoon characters into Captivate 5.0?  I've done some investigation and believe this can be done using a character builder (detailed on www.mediasemantics.com).  I'm fairly new to Captivate so would appreciate any advice on how to add this type of animation and any problems anyone has encountered do this.

    We've also used a product called Toon Boom on a project about a year ago to create animated cartoon characters and add them to a Captivate project.

    Though in theory it's also AS2 output, it worked fine in Captivate AS3 content.  Don't know why.

  • Playing different Movie Clips onRollover?

    I have several buttons that I would like to play different
    movie clips
    onrollover on the stage. So if button 1 is rolled over it
    plays a clip
    in the lower right corner and when rolled off it stops and if
    button 2
    is rolled over it does the same.
    How is this done?

    There are two easy fixes to this.
    One, you can set up Family Sharing, in which you can have two different iCloud Accounts, yet still share the same apps, music, media etc.
    Two, go to Settings and turn-off "Handoff". This can be found under the General page.

    anyway, so i pretty much got the banner done - but i'm stuck
    on one problem. I made a motion clip of a heart, and i want the
    heart to fall from top to bottom, following a squiggly motion
    guide, and to rotate 1/4 turn on the way. I got it as far as
    following the motion guide, but when i try to select the instance
    in the first frame and rotate it, shouldn't the motion tween make
    it appear to slowly rotate, rather than stay put then rotate 1/4
    turn at the last frame? When I select the clip and play around with
    alpha and stuff, that works fine. What the heck?
