Animation with iMove HD6 or other Apple software

Hello,
I am trying to create short animations with some IllustratorCS images I have created (dozens of images in sequences).
I have iMovie HD6, Final Cut Express, and Quicktime Pro 7. I am wondering which of these would be the best suited for this kind of project ?
I can't afford Flash MX, Maya or 3D Max right now so will have to settle for one of these. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks a million,
Kallum

Open QuickTime Player and then "Open Image Sequence".
That's my preferred method, too. Tweak the input/output frame rates, as necessary.
If you compose the source images as 720x480 (for NTSC) or 720x576 (for PAL), then when you export them as .dv, there won't be any scaling. The same resolutions apply to 4:3 and 16:9 standard definition DV projects.
(I tested this and, as expected, any other resolution like 640x480 or 768x576 etc produced slight scaling artifacts to the output: vertical 1 pixel black lines were scaled to grayish 2 pixels or more).
If you want to see the correct proportions, you can set the composing app to use pixel aspect ratio for NTSC 4320:4739 = ~0.912 and for PAL 128:117 = ~1.094 if you are doing 4:3 projects (for 16:9 projects you just multiply the 4:3 aspect ratio by 4/3).
This way the output quality will be best possible (the DV codec may introduce some artifacts, though):

As a hobbyist dual core Macbook Pro 13-1nch will do fine.
For professional work, you are better off with Macbook Pro 15-inch quad core i7..
iWeb is no more available from Apple. You may  have to check Amzon for it.

Just bought a MacBook Air.  Isn't is supposed to come loaded with Numbers, Pages and other basic software?  I can't find these.  Can anyone help?

It comes with iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand, but not with Pages, Numbers and Keynote. You have to download them from the Mac App Store.
Open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and accept all these apps, so they will be downloaded and installed free of charge.
If you cannot download them, see > http://www.apple.com/creativity-apps/mac/up-to-date/

  • Quicktime and Other Apple Software Close Unexpectedly

After installing Quicktime 7.1.6 my whole computer started messing up. Every time I try to open Quicktime it unexpectedly closes before it gets a chance to open. This also happens with Itunes and Other Apple Software, even system preferences closes unexpectedly. However I can open and run photoshop with absolutely no problems. Is there a way to revert to 7.1.5 or a way to restore the operating system to a date before I installed the new version of Quicktime? I know you can do that on windows operating system.
    thanks
    powermac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I discuss by eMail with a developper of Graphic Converter and he confirm this problem
    Really?
The latest version of GraphicConverter (5.9.5) runs perfectly with OS 10.4.9 and QT 7.1.6.
Not that GraphicConverter has anything to do with video.
It's a Quicktime crashes with .AVI corrupted files..
'AVI' can be many things. It is not a codec but a container, and if a file is corrupted you can't blame Quicktime for not opening it!
Try doing a bit of maintenance on your computers, guys.

  • ITunes and other apple-software | nothing's possible anymore

    Hi,
I know there's been some discussion already on several issues with iTunes especially that also cover ONE of my problems but unfortunately the given strategies to resolve those probs didn't work out.
So I'd like to post my problem once more. Since I, unfortunately I can't really tell what I did, I think I did an Update via "Apple Software Update" an my PC crashed, I can't open up any Apple Software anymore. I can't open up iTunes - a message appears "that this action is only valid for products currently installed ". And the worst thing about this all is that I can't uninstall iTunes directly because there is no "uninstall information" and I can't (re)install iTunes or Quicktime or anything else because it is not possible for the installation-routine to uninstall the "old" versions neither...
An Idea: Is there any - let's say -hack to delete iTunes from my PC that the installation routine can be run correctly without trying to uninstall the old version of iTunes that isn't working anymore anyway?
I'd really appreciate some help because I'd like to use my new iPod that is just lying around for about three weeks now.....
    Thanks in advance... biboff.
PS: Of course I will provide additional information if needed.

    Dear Katrina,
thank you very much. Now iTunes is working again.... Sending many thanks to Redmond too... !! Before closing this thread as my problem is solved now, I'd like to update my experience with this MS tool "Windows Installer Clean Up Version 3" so the others users reading this thread might also be able to solve their probs.
So while first running this little "MS Install Clean Up" and deleting "iTunes", the iTunes Installation Routine broke up again afterwards, whilst installing QuickTime.
So I ran "MS Install Clean Up" again and deleted every Apple Product I could think of being connected to iTunes - so far I thought of "Apple Mobile Device Support", "Bonjour" and of course "QuickTime" since QuickTime-Installation was the drop-out of the Install Routine.
I hope I could add some additional information on this issue and again thank Katrina very much for her help. My question was answered and I am enjoying iTunes again at the time. I'm even thinking about switching over to Mac soon.... hopefully something like this doesn't happen on a mac. This even was written using SAFARI, so I'm almost there....
    Thanx.

  • Monetizing OS X and other Apple software tutorials on Youtube?

    Hello community!
I have a howto video of OS X Lion up on Youtube that has reached almost 60,000 views and I plan to do lots more, because there often seem to be things that somebody hasn't done a video on and I simply like making howtos. Also, I'm a student, so any few extra bucks would be welcome.
Back on topic though, is it possible to monetize videos on Youtube that I have used OS X in to demonstrate how things are done?
I'm aware I must not allow the impression it's an official Apple video or endorsed by Apple, so beyond that, am I good to go?
And does this apply to all software Apple provides? I'd love sparing the forum asking this everytime I decide to record something new that might not be the base OS X install, but instead maybe an iPhoto tutorial or whathaveyou.
I tried searching the internet and the forums here, but to no avail.
Thanks a lot in advance folks!

This is my feeling, too, however I really don't want a bad Youtube account standing so I need something that I can show Youtube in the event the legality of my monetization gets questioned either by them or a 3rd party. (could be a troll, you know stuff like that is happening)
Thanks for the quick reply so far though, it's nice to know my feeling doesn't seem to be too off with what others estimate to be good to go.
And about "not using Apple logos or other copyrighted materials":
This is borderline impossible, as what I'm recording is basically going to show the Apple logo sooner or later (Menu Bar for example) and being a Youtube partner I'd love making a custom preview image for the video which would of course need to depict what I'm showing (e.g. OS X's logo) for obvious reasons.
    Would that be okay?
I know I cannot use the logos as channel logo or anything, at least not the official ones. (Nobody could stop me from snapping a pic of a real apple and slapping that on my channel icon )
    Again, thanks so far.

  • Installing 10.5.1 and other Apple Software makes my Boot Drive Invisible !

    Hi There,
    I need help,
after installing the leopard Update 10.5.1 my System booted just fine but after logging in I noticed that my boot drive WAS NOT visible in the finder sidebar or desktop...
I opened Tinkertool System and looked at my hard drive. And it had mysteriously been set to "INVISIBLE" in the HFS and Finder Attibutes.... After setting it to "Visible" again I could see it in the finder....
    Can someone PLEASE explain this.....
Leopard is great but one has to do a BUNCH Of trouble shooting to get it to purr

    Thanks 4 posting anyway
The installation instructions state "installed" not "active'
I don't believe Apple makes Tinkertool. You should have uninstalled it before upgrading.
I believe Tinkertool qualifies as a system modification.
    The install instructions cleary say
    Important: Read before installing
You may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications installed, or if you've modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)

  • FCPX 10.1 : how to backup the library file (with LaCie SilverKeeper or other backup software)

Hello... I was using FCPX with an external hard drive (A) with all "events" end "projects" folders.
Then, on a regular basis, I was copying hard drive (A) content to another hard drive (B) using LaCie SilverKeeper. All new or modified content in these folders was copied. With the new 10.1 version, no more folders but a "library" file which is not recognized by SilverKeeper.
So how to backup library files without starting a new copy each time ?

Thank you for your input, nevertheless, I may have miss something but I am used to work with all my media on an external HD.
Then, on a regular basis, say each time I have an important editing step, I backup this external HD to another external HD.
With FCPX, I have chosen to integrate new media in the new library file. Consequently, these media files are not in folders, but inside the FCPX file.
The problem is that when I want to backup all this (including media files inside FCPX library) this library is not recognized by backup software.

  • Why does Aperture implement full screen mode differently to other Apple software?

Yes I know I always was pretty thick, and things haven't improved as senility draws nigh, but I have not yet found a way to run Aperture as I would like to.
What I want to do is to run the NON full-screen interface in a manner that occupies the whole screen. This would have two benefits:
    1. It would proved larger images, since the lower border of the application would cover the dock.
    2. It would enable a more efficient conversion between Aperture and related non full-screen programs such as finder, scanner software, etc. In the modern OSX fashion, one would simply swipe from one to the other.
Yes, I do know how to run in Aperture's full-screen mode, and I use it a lot, but the work I'm doing right now demands frequent trips back to the browser interface, and I want it bigger, better.
Please tell me I'm missing something fundamental.
Of course, it might just be sorted in an up-coming version of Aperture.
Thanks for reading this and hopefully, for your tolerance.

    Julian
Perhaps I'm missing something here - so if this answer is wrong - apologies in advance
Try clicking the 'Plus' button top left of the Aperture window. (This is the same button that would be green in a Finder window)
Press it again to revert to the previous non full window view

  • Can't project iMovie HD6 with mirroring off

MBP 10.5.4, model 3.1, NVIDIA GeForce 8600m GT
I want to project my HD6 iMovie HDV project via a 1080p 1920 x 1080 projector, with mirroring option set to off, so as to get full HD resolution on the screen.
I have tried all possibilities offered by Display preferences, F7 key etc... but to no avail; I can only project with the mirroring option set to ON.
Has anyone out there experienced the same problem ?
    Tks
    jc
PS I can project my FotoMagico slides show with full resolution and mirroring set to off, but can't do it with iMovie HD6.

Thank you, but it's a "no go".
Could you pls be a little more specific ? I don't know what you mean by the "menu bar icon" for instance.
When I click onto "Arrangement" on the External Display panel, I see two little blue screens apparently on the top of each other, but I can't separate them and draging my iMovie icon over such blue screen, does not do anything ie it rejects it.
I understand that some MBP have had a problem with the F7 function. Mine was bought in late 2007.
    Thanks

  • Canon HG10 work with iMovie 08?

I know...you can't even get one yet, and it is not listed on the Apple camcorder compatibility chart for iMovie 08.....but does anyone have a guess if this will work ok with iMovie 08? One would think it would based on the other HDD AVCHD camcorders that are shown to work. I need to get an HD camera for the daughter's upcoming wedding in October.
    thanks, Bruce
ps....I too was disappointed with iMovie 08....but I have been using it quite a bit now, and even with the few things I can not do, there are so MANY positives that I am very happy with it. I can always use iMovie HD for the few things that I might miss....but I doubt it.

You will get a better editing platform for your home movies with iMovie HD6, which is a free download.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/iMovieHD6
You will also get better quality video if you buy an HDV camcorder, however, unless you also buy a Blu ray DVD burner and Toast, you will only be making standard definition DVDs with iMovie and iDVD, no matter what cam you buy.
Tape is superior to hard drive AVCHD cams in many ways and iMovie HD6, the superior editing platform, REQUIRES a tape based format.

  • How can I get my new camcorder to work with iMovie?

    Hey
I just bought the new Panasonic SDR-SW20 and it doesn't work with a Mac.
At least that is what I read at amazon.com.
The file types it records in are .MOD files. Can these be converted?
And if they can, how do I do that and what program do I need?
Could someone maybe explain to me how I can get it to work with iMovie?
    Thanks.
    Bye Sandra

    Hi Sandy,
Yes, you bought the wrong format of cam for working easily with iMovie HD6. Your cam records in MPEG2, which will need to be converted to DV for use in iMovie. You might want to read what the following page says about that cam's format.
    http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Panasonic-SDR-SW20-Camcorder-Review-35018/F ormat.htm
It doesn't give a good review of the video quality and that will only get worse with the conversion necessary to work with it in HD6. If returning the cam for something more suitable is possible, unless you have bought this solely for its underwater capabilities, that might be your best bet. The best cam for use with iMovie HD versions is a miniDV cam using firewire, to capture to your Mac.
If you want to persue the workarounds, you will need to get MPEGStreamclip (free-Google it) and the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 plug-in (cost $20.00), available at the Apple downloads site.
    Hope this helps you.
