Animation with looping objects?

Hi all.
I have this animation in which I have 4 squares - red, green, blue and orange - in this order, in a sliding row. Check animation
When I mouseover on any of them, the timeline slides one square to the left/right centering one of the squares - for ex, if the green square is centered and I mouseover the blue square, the entire row slides one square to the left so that the blue square becomes centered. It's like an horizontal sliding menu.
The whole thing works fine. What I need is for this animation to be loopable, that is, when I reach the final square (orange) I want the row to keep sliding so that the first one - the red square - becomes centered (always seing a bit of the previous and next square).
How do I this?
My files
pmfr

Hi!
I just duplicated the red, green and purple boxes (to keep those at start and the end of animation) and put some logic on it. It's quite simple.
Here are the files.
This is my first answer here, so, I'd be glad if you mark as correct!
Cheers!

  • Newbie problem with new objects and tools.

    in chapter 4 of the after effects essential training series from Lynda.com in the section about controlling animation with the pick whip. when he applies the null object the red bar immediately populates (correct usage?) the timeline to the right. when i apply the null object it's hidden to the left, under all the layer info, and i need to drag it out into view.
    ive found that whenever i have a problem, e.g., im using a tool and nothing is happening, it always comes down to this same thing: the layer is not with everything else and i need to drag it out into view.
    not only am i new to mac, but im only marginally literate and a total newb to anything more advanced than iphoto, any advice would be appreciated.

    Rick Gerard wrote:
    I'm not understanding what you are asking.
    If you have a layer in the timeline, a null, and the parenting column is visible you simply click on the pickwhip next to the layer and drag it to the name of the null layer. The Parenting box now says that Layer 1 is connected to Null 1.
    Now, when you move the null, the layer will move.
    i understand what they do and how to set them up.
    my question is more specific, but also applies more generally to other tools and layers. when Ian creates his null layer in the video (as well as other layers ive seen him create) the red bar that represents his null layer immediately appears in the timeline with the begining of the red bar at the left end of the work area. it is fully visible. when i create one the file shows up in the list of layers on the panel to the left of the time line, but it is not visible in the comp window and the red bar is hidden to the left side of the visible timeline to where you have to click its right end and drag it out from behind the panel on the left.
    this has happened with other layers ive created using other tools and before i figured out what to look for it was very frustrating. now, whenever i can't find something, or a tool that im using isnt doing anyhting (besides creating more and more layers) ive learned to look and see if theyre just hidden. it seems like it's probably a setting. but clearly, something is different: he creates a null layer and it appears in the timeline, and mine appear slid to the left.

  • Troubles importing Flash 10 Animation with 3D Transform

    I am looking for any workaround/experiences for importing a Flash 10 animation with 3D transforms. Currently, doing this will wig out Captivate 4 and break the embedded animation in all sorts of ways. AS3 support in Captivate is turned on and the same animation will load and play correctly if the 3D transform is removed. All other Flash 10/AS3 possibilites work including motiosn graphs and filters.
    I find the 3D transform option of Flash CS4 to be one of the most powerful features ever introduced in Flash and would allow some incredible breakthrough design possibilities for my Captivate projects, if it would just support it! Any experiences with this issue welcomed. A bug report has been submitted also, but looking for a quicker remedy.

    Problem Resolved!
    I got this tip from Vikram (Adobe Support)
    1. Open your project having Flash Player 10 animations involving 3D transforms.
    2. Click the Edit menu and select Preferences.
    3. Select "Publish settings" under the "Project" section.
    4. Check "Animations" option under the "Externalize resources" section.
    5. Press OK.
    6. Now click the publish button.
    7. In the publish dialog, select Flash Player 10 from the "Flash Player version:" drop down.
    8. Click publish.
    (F4 preview may not work, so use preview in browser)
    Also, you may need to be wary of embedded scripted symbols as they may loose reference to the parent symbol after being embedded in yoru your CP4 project containing 3D transforms. My advice here is to try to script using as much object oriented js as possible in the main timeframe.
    I am using a combination of localConnect and ExternalInterface functions to control the 3D animation from captivate quiz buttons. This process adds a whole new level of interactivity and visual interest to your captivates!

  • While Loop - Object Creation

    Hello,
    I have a question on object creation and while loops. Have a look at the following code snippet:
    while(true)
           Object obj = new Object();
           // Pass off obj to a new thread
           Thread job = new Thread(new ObjectHandler(obj));
           job.start();
    }My question is, do I have to wait until the newly created Thread is finished with the Object obj before I can create a new Object called obj in the while loop?
    Also does anyone have any documentation on this sort of thing?
    Thanks,
    Tony.

    I'm still not sure you get what I'm on about, you might want to read up on java methods and pass by value.I think we know how it works. Most of us have been programming in Java for serveral years.
    >
    When you pass an object to a method in java you pass it a copy of a reference to that object. Leading on from that, before an object is eligible for garbage collection in java, all references to that object must be dropped.
    So with all that in place, my question was, is the creation of an object in a while loop dependent on previous objects of the same name? Objects don't have names. Have we mentioned that before?
    You have a reference, larry that is referencing an unnamed object. You can also create other references that reference the same object. The thread will have one reference. You can then make larry reference another object. That will not change anything in the thread. It will still reference the old object, and that object will not be claimed by the gc until that thread stops referencing it.
    So the second time we go through the loop below, do we have to wait until larry has been garbage collected, before a new larry can be created?Read the articles/tutorials and what I have written above. What do you think?
    Do also note that the GC isn't executed synchronously.

  • Import pptx with movable objects?

    I was wondering if there was a way to import a pptx file that will still allow me to move and play with the objects (such as add interactions/motion/fade). Is there any way to do this? I know that you can import pptx with "High Fidelity"....
    Captivate states it provides "Native support for pptx. All objects used in presentation, including Smart Art and animation will be included"
    I choose High Fidelty but am not able to move objects.
    Am I understanding this worng or doing something wrong?????
    Please help.
    Thank you Captivate experts, you have been my saviour in more than one occasion!

    OK I see...
    So I see what your saying, but it really doesn't help me much. Who would have Captivate and not PowerPoint (rhetorical)?
    I get it though, PowerPoint is Microsoft and Captivate is Adobe... They dont want to encourage microsoft products too much
    Thanks for the input you really helped out a lot...doesn't make my life easier but answerd my lingering question!!!

  • Working with PowerPoint objects in 7

    I'm evaluating Captivate 7, comparing it with Articulate Storyline.  One of the adverstised features of 7 is the ablity to import PowerPoint including, explicitly,  all object and animations. I have tried this and so far it only looks like it creates an image of the PowerPoint slide. I can't see how to directly interact with the PowerPoint shapes, text, etc. except by opening a linked PowerPoint session.  But I would like to create a drag and drop interaction with the objects in the PowerPoint slide, or apply other Captivate effects to the objects.  This is easily done in Articulate Storyline which turns the objects into Storyline objects.  Can I do the same in Captivate?  What am I missing?

    Hi folks
    Slight correction here. PowerPoint slides are imported and converted to Flash animations. (.SWF files) and the .SWF is set as the background image.
    Likely what is meant by importing all objects is that they are all included in the SWF? Not sure. Additionally, while any changes must be made using PowerPoint, Captivate has a way of opening PPT under its control to make changes.

  • Animation with motion path like flash

    Hi at all,
    is it posible to animate an object in circle move like motion path in flash?

    @resdesign
    If you were right, the example below won't work ;-)
    Rotation is  rotating an object around its origin. If the origin is outside the object, it moves in a circle.
    Here is the example: http://mcmm.com/edge/circular/circular.html
    It has been done like in my description above.
    All objects in the example are simply animated with rotation. The earth rotates around its origin and the planets do the same.
    The only difference between earth and planets is that the earth has its origin untouched while the planets have their origin outside.

  • PSD Animating a 3D Object

    Ok this might be a hardware problem but not sure.
    I create a 3d object in PSD. stays nice and centered on grid. I can rotate and adjust no problem.
    But then when I create the scene into a timeline and activate a stopwatch the object jumps to a different location on grid. Is it a bug, Bad graphics card. No idea but myself and another designer are having the same problem keeping us from animating any 3d objects. Both of us would be happy if we could create any object and spin it in place to create an animation.
    Please help.
    We have AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB

    I have same problem. When I create object in Photoshop - for example Cube Wrap all is ok until I activate animation. After that object starts to jump to different locations. What's more - sometimes parts of the object are displayed still in the original location.
    I use Photoshop CC, card is GeForce GT540M/PCIe/SSE2 with updated driver, system is windows 7 with all updates.
    Below is screenshot of oddly displayed 3d box wrap. It was supposed to sit in the middle of the grid as on the next screenshot, made before turning on animation stopwatch.

  • How to create a feather-like drop with an object?

    Hello,
    I am looking for a feather-like drop with an object?
    I am using AECS3.
    Anyone have a good tutorial and/or method?
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Ah, sorry, I assumed too much. CC Cylinder requires a small object on a large layer. There are no ballistics settings for any of this feather stuff, you create it.
    Draw a storyboard of your motion path, what does this falling object do and where does it go on the screen?
    Does it swoop and pause? Imagine a falling leaf. Suggest you buy a copy of FORREST GUMP to deconstruct the feather animation effects.
    Draw that motion path using position keyframes and remember that to create a pause at the top of an arc you need two keyframes.
    (You can complicate this by using a 3D space so your feather moves toward and away from the camera but this can be simulated by scaling your cylinder layer.)
    When you get the movement roughed out, you can start playing with the rotation settings for the cylinder object. You will attempt to orient the intrinsic movement of the cylinder with the implied air currents and directional changes. For instance, if the feather is climbing an arc, the rotation will follow the trajectory but at the top of the arc, the feather will pause while the rotation flips it over and then it accelerates in a fall as the feather points downward.
    This isn't easy. Nothing in After Effects is easy. But it's direct an fairly intuitive when you start thinking about what a light object will do when it becomes a glider. You just need to understand the implied physics and ballistics. Attempting to make it "real" is likely to make the effect appear overworked.
    I can send you a small project file. It's not polished at all, but will give you some idea of what you can play with. dbogieATidahopowerDOTcom replace the AT with "@" and DOT with "."

  • Performance issue with Business Objects Java JRC API in CRXI R2 version

    A report is developed using java JRC API in CR XI release 2. When I generate the report in the designer, it took less than 5 seconds to display the results in crystal report viewer inside the designer. But in the QA environment, when I generate the same report from the application, it takes almost 1 to 1.5 minutes to display the same results in PDF. I also noticed that if the dataset contains bigger volume of data, then the reports are taking even longer almost 15 to 20 minutes.
    While generating the report from the application, I noticed that most of time is taken during the execution of the com.crystaldecisions.report.web.viewer.ReportExportControl Object method as shown in following line of code
    exportControl.processHttpRequest(request, response, context, null)
    We thought the delay in exporting the report to PDF might be the layout of the report and data conversion to PDF for such a bigger volume of data.
    Then we investigated the issue and experimented quickly to generate the same report with same result set data from the application using XML, XSL and converted the output XSL-FO to PDF using Apache FOP (Formatting Objects Processor) implementation. The time taken to export the report to PDF is less than 6 seconds. By doing this experiment, it is proved that the issue is not with conversion of data to PDF but it is the performance problem with Business Objects Java JRC API in CR XI R2.
    In this regard, I searched for the above issue in the SAP community Network Forums -> Crystal Reports and Xcelsius -> Java Development -> Crystal Reports. But I did not find any answers or solutions for this kind of issue in the forums.
    Any suggestion, hint in this matter is very much appreciated.

    Ted, The setReportAppServer problem is resolved. Now I could able to generate the report with hardcoded values in the SQLs in just 6 seconds where as the same report was generated in CRXI R2 in 1 minute 15 seconds as mentioned in the earlier message.
    But, our exisiting application passes the parameter values to the SQLs embedded in the report. For some reason the parameters are not being passed to the report and the report displays only the labels without data.
    As per the crj 12 samples codes, the code is written as shown below.
    1. Created ReportClient Document
    2. SetReportAppServer
    3. Open the report
    4. Getting DatabaseController and switching the database connection at runtime
    5. Then setting the parameters as detailed below
    ParameteFields parameterFieldController = reportClientDoc.getDataDefController().getParameterFieldController();
    parameterFieldController.setCurrentValue("", "paramname",paramvalue);
    parameterFieldController.setCurrentValue("", "paramname",paramavalue);
    byteArrayInputStream = (ByteArrayInputStream)reportClientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
    6. Streaming the report to the browser
    Why the parematers are not being passed to the report?  Do I need to follow the order of setting these parameters?  Did I miss any line of code for setting Params using  crj 12?
    Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry - bit sleepy when I last posted.
    If you want to have the SAME loop week after week, use

       loopMarker = item 1 of dString  -- "Friday"
        go marker (loopMarker)

    Make sure your markers match the first item of dString.
    If your French date string doesn't have a comma after the name day, or has a different layout, adjust "loopMarker =" accordingly

  • Creating animations with transparent backgrounds?

    I'm running into some problems when using After Effects to create animations with transparent backgrounds for Keynote...
    I use animated gifs and short quicktime movies with uniform backgrounds as source files, use color keying to take out the backgrounds, preview them to see if they look OK, render the results as RGB+alpha, and... they don't show up as transparent in Keynote. They work in Powerpoint, however. I've tried outputting as .mov, as .gif, as premultiplied vs straight alpha... no joy. Can someone explain (or point me to an explanation) of how Keynote differs from other programs in its handling of transparency? What am I missing?

    Using a TYPE_INT_ARGB BufferedImage worked beautifully. I had played around with Image for hours, but it never occurred to me that BufferedImage would be needed. :)

    When opening and saving documents with smart objects photoshop freezes the adobe PS loader (circle dots) is replaced and the system loader (multi colored wheel of death) spins for 30 seconds or more.

    Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
    Suitcase 4
    Anyone got any ideas? This is making me go nuts!

    A solution!
    It turns out the problem in my case was in fact Suitcase. Previously, I'd tried turning it off, but that didn't fix the problem, so this time, I uninstalled it completely and the problem disappeared. I then began re-adding it (installed 15.0.1, upgraded it, etc.) and the problem resurfaced with the addition of the Photoshop-specific plugin. Deleting that plugin solved the problem. So it seems that "disabling" Suitcase by stopping the TypeCore doesn't seem to actually disable all of the tentacles it sticks into your system.
    You can find the plugin here: Applications / Adobe Photoshop CS6 / Plug-ins / Automate / ExtensisFontManagementPSCS6.plugin
    (After a restart, I also had to delete the font cache, as described here http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html but your mileage may vary.)
    Alternately, if you don't want to delete the plugin, disabling it from within Photoshop seems to work as well. To do that, go to File > Automate > Extensis, click Preferences..., then deselect Enable Suitcase Fusion 4 Auto-Activation.
    Fortunately, the plugin doesn't seem necessary at all to use the the core functionality of Suitcase (enabling and disabling fonts) in Photoshop. I didn't even know what these app-specific plugins did until researching this problem, and I still don't quite understand the point of them. I guess they allow you to let the apps for which they're installed do a little bit more of their own management (enable a font via Suitcase that isn't enabled system-wide), but that seems like more control than I need--if I'm enabling a font, I want all my software to be able to use it.
    Anyway, the problem seems to be completely solved on my system now, though I just did all this, so more testing over the next few days is required. I'll post here if any issues crop up. I'm interested in hearing if this solves it for anyone else as well.
