ANM, ACE module device type

I have a pair of ACE modules installed and maintained through ANM.  We
started with ANM 2.X and recently upgraded to 3.0.
The ACE modules were running code A1(6.3) and are now on A2(2.3).
ANM is identifying the devices as Device Type ACE v1.0, and device types
seem to limit the features that ANM exposes for configuration.
The GUI does not expose the HTTP/SSL rewrite features in Expert mode, but I
can configure the devices in the CLI.
I have been unable to find an info on how devices are identified, or if they type
can be changed..
The exact module installed is a ACE20-MOD-K9.  Can anyone shed some light
on if this is an 'ACE V1.0' and if not, how to convince ANM of the correct type?

Just a thought - when you upgraded did you change the default www user password on the ACEs? I remember the upgrade instructions instructing that this step was necessary to allow manipulation of the configuration via xml (which I believe the ANM tool requires to exercise its full functionality).

  • Can not import ACE module to ANM

    Hello,
    Good day.
I recently facing an interesting problem.
We are running ANM 5.1.0 to manage our LB contexts, those contexts are configured on ACE20-MOD-K9 module which installed in Catalyst6500 switch. Our installation is like this, two ACE20-MOD-K9 modules installed into same Catalyst6513 different slots. And  those two ACE modules serves different Data Halls, contexts configured on those modules are completely seperated, different VLAN, different subnet no relation at all.
I'm able to import the catalyst chassis into ANM and under Config>Guided Setup>Import Device>Modules, I'm able to see both ACE modules but only one module able to be imported, another one I can not even choose it. There are slightly difference those two modules show themselves in that page. The one I'm able to import shows exactly it's module type and version number but another one is showing someting strange.

Does any was facing samiliar problem?
    Thanks

I think I found something related to my issue.
In ANM operating Guidance, section"Importing ACE Modules after the Host Chassis has been Imported" mentioned some restriction. The module in slot 9 actually has samiliar situation, show module commands shows that Catalyst chassis doesn't really recognize the software version that might caused ANM not able to figure out if that module is supported or not so it makes a simple decision deny import. I will try to reboot that module see if we can fix this issue.
    "Guidelines and Restrictions
ANM 3.0 and greater releases do not support the importing of an ACE module that contains an A1(6.x) software release or an ACE appliance that contains an A1(7.x) or A1(8.x) software release. If you attempt to import an ACE that supports one of these releases, ANM displays a message to instruct you that it failed to import the unrecognized ACE configuration and that device discovery failed.
However, if you perform an ANM upgrade (for example, from ANM 2.2 to ANM 3.0), and the earlier ANM release contained an inventory with an ACE module that supported the A1(6x) software release or an ACE appliance that supported the A1(7.x) or A1(8.x) software release, ANM 3.0 (and greater) allows the A1(x) software release to reside in the ANM database and will support operations for the release. ANM prevents a new import of an ACE module or ACE appliance that contains the unsupported software version.
We strongly recommend that you upgrade your ACE module or ACE appliance to a supported ACE software release, and that you instruct ANM to recognize the updated release. See the "Instructing ANM to Recognize an ACE Module Software Upgrade" section.
See the Supported Device Tables for the Cisco Application Networking Manager for a complete list of supported ACE module and ACE appliance software releases."

  • ANM Server & ACE Module

We have a Custom built tool to manage our existing CSS boxes wherein we shutdown multiple Services at one single instance without affecting the entire VIP. The reason to do that is because of the following scenario. 10 Servers. Each server has multiple interfaces configured to support multiple websites thru IIS. Out of the 10 Web servers if we plan to remove one server for code upgrade/deployment, we take that server and shutdown all its configured services from the CSS using our tool.
I understand in ACE, the control is not at the Rserver level, but at the Server farm wherein you have all you servers configured for multiple ports. If I want to take a server (which is configured for multiple websites and multiple ports), I have to navigate to each server farm in the GUI (ANM) and then select the rserver one at a time..U know, it is time consuming..
Since ANM uses mysql to store the data collected from ACE module, is there a way we can create custom tools to achieve our requirement. If possible, Could you please provide us more information on the ACE/ANM Interaction and the options to customize ANM features?
I checked and found from CISCO Site that ANM 1.2 is the latest and only available Software package to Manage ACE in GUI environment. Do you have any other recommendations are products?

you can do it from the CLI.
Each rserver is defined with just an ip address and you define the port when using the rserver in a serverfarm.
By de-activating the rserver in global, you de-activate it in all serverfarms it is being used.
This does not seem possible with ANM so.
If you don't like CLI, you could use XML commands.
    Gilles.

  • When will ANM support ACE module A2(3.0)?

    Hello,
We are using ANM 2.2 to manage our ACE modules running A2(2.2). I would like to upgrade our ACE modules to version A2(3.0). It was released on 12/Oct/2009 but ANM 2.2 still does not support it (although it does support A2(1.6a) which was published on 20/Oct/2009, after A2(3.0)). And 2.2 seems to be the latest version of ANM.
When can we expect ANM to officially support ACE module A2(3.0)?
    Regards,
    Marc.

anm 3.0 will support ACE A2(3.0).
The current schedule date for next anm release is jan 2010.

Please let me did anyone face this issue before or is it any known BUG?

HI All, Thanx for the help. Got the resaon from show version output.
last boot reason:  NP 1 Failed : SRAM Parity Error Chan 3
Also got the TAC comment on SRAM party error
The SRAM parity error presented in the core file is not due to a software issue.
The issue is the result of a "bit-flip" within the SRAM itself which can occur as a
result of environmental conditions. This "bit-flip" is rectified by a simple reboot of
the system, which would occur with the generation of the core file. Cisco internal
testing and customer experience has shown that these types of issues can occur
with very low frequency, but do not required an RMA of the device.
If there are multiple instances of this issue on the same module, a proactive RMA/EFA
of the device would be in order.
ACE is susceptible to this because of the way it uses SRAM to store control information
and packet data as opposed to scratch-pad storage. Almost any 1-bit flip will be detected as a
parity error. Cisco has recognized the issue and is taking action to ensure this will not be
an issue on the next generation of the ACE module. The next generation module design
and timeline is currently under review.
    Thnx again for the help

  • ACE30 - Accessing the ACE Applicance Device Manager

    Hi...
I've got basic connectivty to our ACE30 module and when I try connecting to the management IP address (attached to the Admin context), I see a very basic GUI which only lists the CSM to ACE config conversion tool.  I don't see a GUI as detailed in the document:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/data_center_app_services/ace_appliances/vA1_7_/configuration/device_manager/guide/UG_over.html#wp1072950
How do I get the ACE Applicance Device Manager GUI working so that I can then configure real servers, serverfarms etc rather than via the GUI?
Having read through copious amount of documentation I can't seem to find a refrence that would help here.  This should be a fairly straight forward exercise - do I need to install some other software to get the full fledged GUI working?
    thanks
    Sheldon

Only the ACE 4710 appliances have the GUI.   If you are looking for a GUI for the ACE30 module you will need to use Cisco Application Network Manager (ANM)   It will provide the GUI for the ACE30 to be able to configure it.   As you have seen, only the conversion tool is available on the module.

  • Load Balancing on ACE Modules

    hi,
Is it possible to load balance VIP hits on two ACE Modules in an active/active configuration. Or is it that only per FT group only single context could be active.
    Regards.

You can have 1 context active on one ACE and the other context active on the other ACE.
If you have 2 Vip, you can have 1 vip belonging to one context and the other vip belonging to the other context.
Like this, you split the traffic between the 2 devices which allows you to handle more traffic than what 1 device could normally do.
If one device can handle all your traffic, I prefer to only have 1 active unit and 1 standby.
    Easier to implement and troubleshoot.

  • Reuse of context in ACE module

Hi all, just have a question about som reuse of resources in a ACE module context.  I don't want to make a new context, and can reuse most of the existing configuration in one of my context.  The config is not complex and difficult, but I'm not sure if I can do this.
The primary goal is to loadbalance 2 webservers with a new vip, new serverfarm, stickygroup, policy-map and different nat-pool.
Since I haven't decided the ip addresses to be used, they are just xx in the config below.

  • Ace module in bridged mode with client nat

Could someone confirm whatever a NAT is supported for ACE-20 module, please?
Let me to explain technical details.
I do need to convert working CSM(SLB) config to ACE configuration and I am not quite sure
if the configuration below is correct. ACE module should be configured in bridge mode with two
vlans - vlan 36 (client) and vlan 436 (server) - bridged with interface bvi 36.
NAT on ACE configurad as "nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436" into corresponding
    "policy-map type loadbalance"
Could you check two parts of configs and advise me if the ACE config is
properly converted from CSM and will be working in the same way (especialy for NAT).

    Hello F.Makarenko-
You will want to use PAT while you do nat, so change the natpool configuration to this:
       nat-pool 1025 10.36.3.100 10.36.3.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 pat
You also need to apply the nat like this:
    policy-map multi-match IFVLAN36-POLICY
    class WEBMAIL-80
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-80
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
        nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436
      class WEBMAIL-443
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-443
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
        nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436
If you are going to build out a lot of classes, you can instead do source nat like this:
    policy-map multi-match IFVLAN36-POLICY
    class WEBMAIL-80
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-80
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
    class WEBMAIL-443
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-443
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
    class class-default
        nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436

  • Configuring FT on ACE Modules

    Hi,
I am trying to configure FT on ACE modules, with the following commands
    ft interface vlan 20
      ip address 172.16.20.1 255.255.255.252
      peer ip address 172.16.20.2 255.255.255.252
      no shutdown
    ft peer 1

      ft-interface vlan 20
    ft group 1
      peer 1
      priority 150
      associate-context Admin

The moment I enter the command 'ft interface vlan 20', it gives a prompt that 'interface vlan20 is not associated with ft', how do I resolve this ? Do I need to enable something ?

Hi have the following config which seems to be working fine for me...  check your vlan20 interface is up

  • Simple SLB with the ACE Module

    Hello,
i have some problems with a ACE module i am currently tesing.
I have a simple Serverfarm with two Servers.
But there seems to be some Problems with the Loadbalancing i not understand:
    1) I use Round Robin, but the ACE seems to put me serval times to the same server. I notice this, because i have different content on both servers, also different URLs.
    2) withz the show serverfarm statement the total connects do not increment.
    switch/slb-c1# show serverfarm webfarm
    serverfarm : webfarm, type: HOST
    total rservers : 2
    ----------connections-----------
    real weight state current total
    ---+---------------------+------+------------+----------+--------------------
    rserver: web1
    10.0.33.201:0 8 OPERATIONAL 0 0
    rserver: web2
    10.0.33.200:0 8 OPERATIONAL 0 0
    switch/slb-c1# show service-policy L4_LB_VIP
    Status : ACTIVE
    Interface: vlan 300
    service-policy: L4_LB_VIP
    class: L4_VIP_CLASS
    loadbalance:
    L7 loadbalance policy: L7_SLB_POLICY
    VIP Route Metric : 77
    VIP Route Advertise : DISABLED
    VIP ICMP Reply : ENABLED
    VIP State: INSERVICE
    curr conns : 0 , hit count : 15
    dropped conns : 0
client pkt count : 10198 , client byte count: 420991
server pkt count : 23367 , server byte count: 34915173
    I have attatched the Config.
Any Idea what is going on?

what version do you have ?
I would recommend to run the very recent A1.4.
This is something that really should work.
    Gilles.

  • ACE Module Radius with ACS 4.2

    Hi,
I am able to authenticate to my ACE modules via Radius, but when I login it does not give my Admin rights. Does anyone have a fix for this? My ACS admin has been working with TAC since last week to no avail.
    John...

You have to use a custom AV pair on TACACS server under user setup to make it work. ACE uses RBAC (role based Access Control) and for that you have to pass the context and User Role from Tacacs server to ACE to make it work.If there is no RBAC info is pushed from Tacacs server and user just get authenticated then the default role assigned by ACE is Network-Monitor.
Following steps (On tacacs server) will make it work
    1. Select your user
    2. goto tacas+ settings
    3. Select " shell (exec)" checkbox
    4. Select "custom attributes" checkbox
    5. Type your context and role information in custom attrib box, using following format
    shell:*
for e.g (if context name is Admin, domain is default-domain and you want to assign role "Admin" to this user )
    shell:Admin*Admin default-domain
    Hope it helps

  • Convert_otf - Identify device type

    Hi Experts
I am more of a functional consultant, so please excuse if this is simple thing to find out.
We are calling functional module CONVERT_OTF through a custom program to convert outputs of billing documents into a PDF file. However the PDF file generated has alignment and formatting issues. So we checked further and our ABAP consultant mentioned that the device type 'SCREEN' is used while converting the output into PDF format. This device type does not have any formats attached we we can see through transaction SPAD. So they feel this is the reason for incorrect format / misalignment of PDF output.
So we want to change the device type 'SCREEN' to 'WINSAP' which has all the required formats attached to it.
However our abaper does not not know when the program calls for device type and where to change it. He feels that output device type is called by standard FM CONVERT_OTF and we need to check with SAP on the same.
Therefore we need to know how we can change device type for this requirement. If someone has worked similar query, please help us to resolve this. Any pointers would be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Santosh

    Hi Santosh,
If your requirement is to save the preview as PDF of the billing documents, you just need to type PDF! in the command field of the print preview screen and do a f8 then a pop will come up and then you can save or print the preview.
Note : you have to type PDF in Capitals and along with ! (exclamation mark symbol) i.e. PDF! .
    Hope this helps.
