[ANN] BPEL-TN009: BPEL PM Oracle 9i Configuration Guide
A new version of the Oracle 9i configuration is now available. It include Linux/Solaris information as well as support of the latest 9i DB packaging.
one more thing: if you are looking at testing a specific feature (file adapter wizard for example), please let us know: we are looking for "champions" for each of the new features. -Edwin

BPEL with Oracle E-business suite 11.5.10
Hi,
We are in the process of testing BPEL with Oracle E-Business suite 11.5.10. What is the best document for configuring these two components.
Thanks
GiriI recommend you to read documentation about Oracle Applications adapter. This is good start from technical point of view. http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/integrate.1012/b16498.pdf

BPEL-10555 Identity Service Configuration error is thrown in Solaris O/S
I am getting the below error from the WorkList Application, when I run my code on Solaris O/S.
But when this same code is run on Windows, it works fine.
"500 Internal Server Error
BPEL-10555 Identity Service Configuration error. Identity Service Configuration file has error. "
It is because,I have imported 4 classes in my payload-body.jsp file of Human Task :-
oracle.bpel.services.workflow.task.model.ShortHistoryTaskType,
oracle.bpel.services.workflow.task.model.ShortHistoryType,
oracle.tip.pc.services.identity.BPMAuthorizationService,
oracle.tip.pc.services.identity.BPMUser,
I have also added the below code, to so show the list of "Approvers" in the jsp file :-
BPMUser bpmUser = null;
BPMAuthorizationService bpmAuthServ = wfSvcClient.getAuthorizationService
("jazn.com");
if (task != null && task.getSystemAttributes() != null &&
task.getSystemAttributes().getShortHistory() != null)
ShortHistoryType shortHistoryType = task.getSystemAttributes
().getShortHistory();
List taskList = shortHistoryType.getTask();
String taskApprovers = "";
for (int j = 0; j < taskList.size(); j++)
ShortHistoryTaskType individualShortHistoryTask =
(ShortHistoryTaskType) taskList.get
(j);
if (individualShortHistoryTask.getState().equals("COMPLETED") ||
individualShortHistoryTask.getState().equals("OUTCOME_UPDATED"))
bpmUser = bpmAuthServ.lookupUser
(individualShortHistoryTask.getUpdatedBy().getId());
taskApprovers += bpmUser.getFirstName() + " " +
bpmUser.getLastName() + ", ";
j++;
if (!taskApprovers.trim().equals(""))
taskApprovers = taskApprovers.substring(0,taskApprovers.lastIndexOf
(",")) + ".";
Please do suggest a proper solution to run the above code on Solaris O/S.We have set the OID and our security realm is "alshaya.com" would that be a problem.
Also below is my is_config.xml file :-
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
<ISConfiguration xmlns="http://www.oracle.com/pcbpel/identityservice/isconfig">
<configurations>
<configuration realmName="alshaya" displayName="alshaya Realm">
<provider providerType="JAZN" name="OID" service="Identity">
<connection url="ldap://boomidevp.alshaya.com:389" binddn="cn=orcladmin" password="ifbEl1hXVLg=" encrypted="true"/>
</provider>
</configuration>
</configurations>
</ISConfiguration>
So shall I change the below code as follows :-
BPMAuthorizationService bpmAuthServ = wfSvcClient.getAuthorizationService
("jazn.com");
to
BPMAuthorizationService bpmAuthServ = wfSvcClient.getAuthorizationService
("alshaya");
Will the above change work for me on Solaris O/S ?
Please do reply. -
Time Delay when Initiating BPEL from Oracle ESB
Hi there,
I am currently working with a client who have an on-going integration project. They are using the BPEL and Oracle ESB components of the Oracle SOA Suite 10.1.3.3.1. There is an issue that periodically occurs.
The scenario that we are occasionally getting is as follows:
The ESB is used to Poll for business events in a SQL Server database. Business Events are just information that needs to trigger a process occuring. The ESB has a DB Adapter that POLLS for these events. The ESB simply listens for these events, when one occurs it transforms the incoming message and invokes a Synchonous BPEL process that processes the message. Periodically in their environment, when the ESB DB Poller picks up a message, there seems to be a significant time frame between picking up the message and invoking BPEL. This has been anything upto 90 minutes. For Example messgae picked up 1t 12.30pm and the BPEL instance starts at 2.00pm. This issue seems to be uncreatable. Has anyone experienced similar issues or has any advice regarding this?
Any assistance / advise would be appreciated
DaveHi Ruplim
Thanks for quick response,
I want to Invoke ESB service from BPEL and get the Response Back in the form of Transformation Data.
I tried searching for Demo example in tutorials but i am not able to find such case, Do you have any documentation or Sample code for this type?
Thanks & regards

How to debug BPEL in Oracle 10G / Oracle 11G
Hi All,
How can we debug BPEL in Oracle 10G / Oracle 11G .
We are working on RosettaNet conversion in BPEL. We would like to debug BPEL
Appreciate your help.
Regards
VijayHi
I need to debug BPEL code in same manner how we debug Java Code ( Line by Line ) .
We are working with Java CAPS and Glassfish ESB for last 5 yrs. In NetBeans we debug BPEL in the same manner how debug Plain Java CODE.
Have a look at below link
http://wiki.open-esb.java.net/Wiki.jsp?page=TestingAndDebuggingBPELProcesses
I am looking for same sort of options to debug BPEL using Jdeveloper.

Are other people out there using BPEL with Oracle 8?
BPEL seems to only barely support Oracle 8 (Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.2.0) e.g.
with oracle 8, BPEL requires a database procedure to be owned by schema owner before it can be used in BPEL ... I don't think this is the case with BPEL and oracle 9
with orace 8, the retry ability as per bpel.xml can have some retry schedule extra retry due to socket read error .. (works eventually)
with oracle 8, you have to manually alter toplink setting to pick up date and time rather than just date ... this is not the case with BPEL and oracle 9
i.e. you can make BPEL work with Oracle 8 but it takes some doing!!Can you use WebLogic 8.1 SP4 ? BPEL has been certified with that version. We have been able to reproduce the issue and currently investigating the cause of it.

Does Fusion BPEL replace Oracle Workflow?
Does Fusion BPEL replace Oracle Workflow or does it provide a new way of expressing processes to Oracle Workflow?
In many ways it replaces Oracle Workflow. If you need a database workflow engine you should use Oracle Workflow but if you need a midtier workflow engine BPEL is your best choice.
It contains a lot of features Workflow doesn't have, and I think many of Workflow features were or will be added to BPEL.
Plus, BPEL being a SOA and integration tool, provides a lot of additional features such as adapters and connectivity to systems, transformation etc. etc.

Oracle 8i Configuration Tools Fails on Install
I found problems on the Oracle 8i Installation, on my Windows XP Desktop (SP1). I've selected the Minimal Installation, and all goes on. When they reach the Configuration Tools Section of Setup...
It found the following fails:
- Net8 Configuration Assistant, fail:
Class not found: Files\Oracle\Ora81\network\jlib
- Oracle Database Configuration Assistant, fail:
There is no available output for this tool.
Apparently, it doesn't create the Starter Database (my main need). I'm newbie in Oracle Database world (I'm MS-SQL Server DBA), so, if anyone can help me, I'll be glad...
Thanks,
RafaelPlease turn on the debug trace in tip.properties
Since we want to see why B2B did not start, we want to have as much trace as possible. Please set the following (in tip.properties)
b2b.oracle.tip.DiagnosticLevel = DEBUG
oracle.tip.LogType = text
If there is an exception in also should be logged in /home/oracle/MTProd/opmn/logs/B2B~B2BServer~MTProd.helenab2b.helenachemical.com~1
Please gather as much trace information as possible when you start the B2B Server manually.
If opmn is not started, use the 'opmnctl start' command in $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin
Then use the following command to start B2B:
opmnctl startproc process-type=B2BServer
Thanks,

The issue is resolved. Thanks for your response.
The issue is, windows 2003 server is 32 bit and I am trying to install 64 bit 11g database. I tried installing 32 bit 11g database. Before that I have cleared the traces of virtual box in my host system and reinstalled it and tried. It worked out.

I've AMD64 system with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. It's been rough ride for me to install oracle-xe-universal. I've already spent more than 2 days on this. Still unsuccessful.
1) First I downloaded the packages libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb and oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
2) Then I ran
sudo apt-get install bc (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb (gave me dependency error for libc6 (>= 2.3.2), I modified the control file to remove dependency and rebuilt the package) (now worked fine)
Oracle xe is now installed. Then I tried to start the DB it started but it's HTTP client never started. So I decided to uninstall the oracle-xe=universal. None of the sudo apt-get remove oracle-xe-universal command's didn't worked for me. So i went for manual uninstallation directions as per oracle link.
I ran the following command-
Manually uninstalling Oracle 10g
sudo rm -rf /usr/lib/oracle /etc/oratab /etc/init.d/oracle-xe /etc/sysconfig/oracle-xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe_client
Then I again ran the following command to install oracle-xe
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
See below what I got as the output-
rocky@ubuntu:~/git/mygit/edas2/libaio$ sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
dpkg: warning: overriding problem because --force enabled:

Now if I try to run the following command, it says command not found-
rocky@ubuntu:~/git/mygit/edas2/libaio$ sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure
sudo: /etc/init.d/oracle-xe: command not found
rocky@ubuntu:~/git/mygit/edas2/libaio$
Even in applications menu I don't see the if oracle has been installed.
So i conclude first time installation was ok but somehow http client didn't worked.
After manual uninstallation, second installation didn't even loaded/installed the oracle-xe in init.d directory.
Please help here.user1680826 wrote:

Any reason you are not using a supported OS?
And any reason you are running two threads on the same problem? /etc/init.d/oracle-xe is missing?

Oracle Validated Configurations - Yes or No
To satisfy my curiosity, I've just tried, for the first time, oracle-validated configuration on a clean 32-bit OEL-5.2 installation without oracle database software already installed. I've used the actual
oracle-validated-1.0.0-8.el5.i386
rpm package.
According to the official oracle documentation's recommendations and naming convention, taken as a standard, I can say that oracle-validated configuration more failed than succeeded.
CORRECT SETTINGS:
* /etc/sysctl.conf has been correctly set
* /boot/grub/grub.conf has been correctly set
FAILED SETTINGS AND INCORRECT CREATIONS:
* /etc/security/limits.conf has been correctly set for oracle, but all other entries in the file related to other users has been erased by validation script
* no modification of /etc/pam.d/login file (pam_limits.so)
* the script created 'dba' and 'oinstall' groups and 'oracle' user with 'dba' group as primary group (not 'oinstall'), that is not in compliance with official oracle documentation. To verify:
[root@localhost ~]# id oracle
uid=502(oracle) gid=502(dba) groups=502(dba),503(oinstall)
If oinstall is not the primary group, what is it supposed to do?
I'd appreciate if someone could clarify this dichotomy between Oracle official documentation's recommendations and "oracle-validated configuration".
Thanks in advance.

NJ, (and segio, please take my response in account),
If you read between the lines of my response I (more or less) make the some of the point you do.
-required rpms
'that's a job for OEL linux Installer': I can only come to conclusion 'the OEL linux installer' you talk about must be installation program of linux. There is no database option in there, so that installer can't help you. Or do you mean the database installer? The database installer only checks if the rpm's are installed.No, I meant OEL Linux installer (anaconda). When you choose packages to be installed, you can select them either individually or in various groups. A group called let's say "Oracle database 10g/11g required packages", as an option, would be very useful. I said - as an option - because OEL is not exclusively related to Oracle database. It is a distro, just like any other distro. Certainly this doesn't mean that "oracle-validated configuration" cannot be useful by checking (and resolving) the dependencies once again at any time when it is necessary. But, in any case, it should be the primary job for OEL installer at OEL installation time.
I agree with you that loosing settings is a very bad thing and should be considered a bug.Of course.
besides that I don't like the oracle user and groups to get random uid and gid's; in any environment you want that to be fixed numbers.
besides that the points I wanted to make was:
-it is not that it's not that hard to make a script which setups your environment in a basic way.
another point is that for rough and quick setup, a default linux system can be used to run a default installed database. no need to do any tweaks with system settings.
-an oracle validated package should not overwrite any settings (obviously), but should be flexible and 'steerable' so it can work together with system policiesCompletely agreed.

what would be the problem?At the Oracle Support site https://support.oracle.com
To access the document, you will need a valid CSI (Customer Support Identifier), which is given when you purchase a support contract from Oracle.
If you do not have a CSI, I would recommend that you completely uninstall the product and reinstall again by following the Install Guide at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=11

"Oracle Database Configuration Assistant" failed
I am attempting to install Oracle Database 11g R1 on CentOS 4.6 (Linux version 2.6.8-67.EL (gcc version 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-9)).
The failure occurs after the message : "Oracle Net Configuration Assistant" succeeded
This message is in the log /u01/app/oraInventory/logs/InstallActions2008-07-07_09-22-20PM.log, and states:
Command = oracle.assistants.server.DbcaCfgPlugIn has failed
Exception : java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
The instance instance was running after the failure and I could access it through EM, but after shutdown it cannot be brought up.
Does anyone know what might be done to prevent the heap space error? This was my third attempt at installing. I specified DW type database and also automated backups. I may try one more time booting the system with telinit 3 to free up some memory by not running GUIs, and if that fails I may try eliminating automated backups from the install.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
akhFYI, I was able to install without error after the following changes:
-reduced fs.file-max from 6553600 to 65536 (not sure where the extra 00 came from :-) )
-changed type of database from data warehouse to standard/oltp
-unchecked the option for automated backups
Unfortunately, I'm not sure at this point which of the 3 changes made the most difference.
