The only problems that I am aware of with the updater are
these:
* Some third party extensions currently don't work with
Dreamweaver 8.0.2.
* The Test SQL Statement panel doesn't render correct results
for MySQL
functions.
* The recordset dialog box strips out the MySQL CONCAT()
function from
SQL queries.
Item 1 isn't a major concern to me, as I rarely use the
extensions
affected (mainly MX Kollection 3 and extensions created by
Tom Muck).
Items 2 and 3 do concern me, but since I'm aware of them, I
can easily
work around them.
I have installed the 8.0.2 updater, and don't have any plans
to
uninstall at the moment. The changes to the server behaviors
improve
security, so that's an important reason to update. On the
other hand, if
you rely heavily on extensions created by InterAKT or Tom
Muck, you may
be better off waiting until they have updated their products,
too.

  • HTML5 vs Flash Navigation Menus

    Don't want the topic to get deleted so I'll try to put this carefully-speculation you know!
    Since iWeb first came out I've been creating my own navigation menus. Simply by creating a text box and linking the text within the text box to my pages. This has been recommended many times in this forum due to the search un-friendliness of the Flash based navigation menus that are used when "Display Navigation Menu" is selected in the Inspector.
    In a future iWeb, that may be more HTML5 based, could that change how iWeb creates such things as the built in Navigation Menus. Just wondering

    A custom navigation allows a lot more versatility in choice of font, size, color, rollover colors, placement on the page, horizontal or vertical etc.
    I don't think its so much that there are problems with default as the fact that building your own menu in a text box allows you to add more keywords. For example, you can have a page name "Joe Gramm" in iWeb and this will appear in the URL. In the navigation menu this page could be named "Upholstery King" giving you a chance to add more keywords.
    If you want speculation, I would be more inclined to guess - or hope - that iWeb will move towards multi layer CSS menu generation.
    Here's a test page with a partial menu of this type....
    http://web.me.com/roddymckay/Web-Media-Test/Menu.html
    Its relatively easy to build a menu like this but very time consuming. If your website is fairly static I guess its worth while. I make too many changes which would require updating the menu and pasting it to over a hundred page. I'm not into self punishment!

  • Making DVD style navigation menus for use in PC files

    Hi There
    I basically need some help with the above! I want to make a film, with menus to start with, which can naviagte to the desired chapter when seleceted. When I put the menu overlays on, instead of exporting to DVD i choose PC files, but only the film itself is saved, not the graphics or menus. Is there a way this can be done?
    Many thanks in advance

    Once you've added your menus and navigation, you need to Share/To Disc to burn a DVD. (You can also elect to burn the files to a folder on your hard drive.)
    Are you not trying to create a DVD?
    I'm not sure of any other way to make your video navigable by menus.
    Although, as I explain in my books, in version 9, you can Share to a WebDVD -- which creates a web site that you can navigate through menus, like a DVD.

  • Embedding an SWF Flash Navigation into Dreamweaver

    My website http://www.theboxinghistorian.com/ has already been created and has a lot of files, at the moment whenever i make a change to my spry navigation i do it through the template which automatically updates every page.
    Now I was looking to remove the spry navigation and to add a flash SWF File as my navigation, however I am relatively new to this and was wondering if adding such a file as my navigation is a simple case of updating the change through the template and once again every page through the Webstite would be updated.  Or would there be more complex issues i would need to Iron out as im using flash in dreamweaver.........

    My advice would be to forget about using Flash for navigation and stick with your Spry menu for now - but make it more efficient (see below).
    There are no upsides and too many downsides to Flash navigation including relying on the Flash plugin being available on your vfisitors computer (what do they do if Flash is not available for them?), search engines struggle with Flash without some clever coding by you (why bother?) and maintaining the navbar is a major pain (have to recreate the Flash file every time).
    The navigation you're currently using looks OK but I suggest implementing it as a Server Side Include instead of propagating it through your Template every time.
    Whilst the Template approach works, the major downside is that you have to upload every page of your website every time you change the Template. That gets old, fast.
    If you convert just the HTML part of your navigation (the ul structure) to a single tiny external text file (an Include) which the server then Includes in the page dynamically every time, you have minimal work to do to update your navigation bar whenever you wish. Just update the tiny text file (e.g. add/delete/move an <li> in the code), upload it to the server and your entire site is instantly up-to-date.
    Adding your navbar to the page as a Server Side Include transforms maintenance from a lengthy mundane chore to a pleasure.

  • Tips for Changing Flash Website to HTML / Dreamweaver

    I am going to be taking over the management of a website that was designed entirely in Flash. There really is no need for the entire website to be entirely in Flash - it is confusing to navigate and most of the content would be so much easier to update and maintain if it were saved in html. I want to keep two flash effects - one is the splash page and the other is gallery where a grid of photos flips up like cards and you can click the individual photos for a link to a specifications page.
    So, my question.  Is there an easy way to transition the site from flash only into html / dreamweaver? I think I already know the answer to this - "NO" - I'm going to have to redesign the site in dreamweaver and just insert the two flash elements I want to keep, but if anybody has any tips or tricks that would be FANTASTIC!  Thanks.

    The problem with FLASH sites is that they speak a different language - Action Script instead of HTML.  While some Flashy effects can be emulated with DHTML (JavaScript, JQuery etc...) it's not always possible to achieve the exact same feel without FLASH.  Everything depends on how Flash-centric the original site is and how much your client/boss is willing to toss out in favor of a more web accessible, search engine / user friendly / standards compliant website.
    Incidentally, SPLASH pages are a complete waste of prime URL real estate.  You don't want a Flash or image only SPLASH intro page on your ALL IMPORTANT domain name default page.  If anything, you need to rebuild home page in HTML with plenty of keyword rich content for search engines and people to grab onto.
    For more meaningful suggestions, please post a URL to the live site?  It will be interesting to see how it ranks on Google and other SEs.

  • Why is the Photoshop font size extremely small for their navigation menus and tools?

    Why is the font size for the Photoshop Cloud navigation menus and tools displaying extremely small on my laptop? I can barely see them. The other Adobe Cloud applications don't display small.

    funkotronic13 wrote:
    Is a readable interface an unreasonable expectation?
    Not at all, and we should well expect that Adobe is working on it.  By their own admission they ARE working on it.  I don't sense "deafening silence" at all.  But results won't/can't be instantaneous and they're not going to promise you release dates.  Life is not like that, no matter how many times you click your red shoes together.
    It's not hard to understand that right now only a small minority of Photoshop users are running high dpi screens that can't take advantage of the 200% setting.  And it was the choice of those users to buy such hardware even in light of the fact that Photoshop can't work fully well on it yet.  Adobe didn't force anyone to buy a 150 ppi display.
    Frankly, if you've chosen such hardware even though Photoshop doesn't offer 150% scaling, it's your own fault.  I recently invested well over $1000 in a new monitor and I planned well enough ahead to buy a 100ppi model (Dell U3014, and it's GREAT).  There's a reason that very new technology is called "bleeding edge".  If you want "To Work" instead of "Dealing With Quirks", sometimes you have to be conservative.
    A majority of Photoshop users DO expect new and useful features, however, such as new tools, new camera support in Camera Raw, etc., so Adobe understandably cannot dedicate every resource they have to revamping Photoshop's user interface just for a special few folks who have irresponsibly adopted new display technology.
    We can debate all day how much Adobe ought to be spending on engineering development, but you and I don't run the company.  We don't make business decisions for them.  I do, however, claim to understand their capabilities and limitations - possibly better than most - because I'm in the same business.
    I can only recommend you be patient.  One day Photoshop will respond to your desktop settings.
    What the heck has anybody ever accomplished here, with Adobe, in either fashion?
    Rhetorical or not, some quite tangible things do come to mind...
    At one time I couldn’t paste my clipboard containing a grayscale image into a new document via an action assigned to a key; the color engine would crash.  Today I can do so without incident.
    At one time multiple Help windows would pop up unexpectedly, often when working in the Styles panel.  Today they don’t.
    At one time I had to select Basic GPU mode.  Today I use Advanced GPU mode without a problem.
    Once running Liquify or Smart Sharpen or a number of other things were slow, especially on big images.  Now they're quite fast, with GPU acceleration.
    At one time an action could not write data back to a document when in windowed mode.  Today it works.
    At one time panorama stitching and focus stacking did not work.  Now it works.
    At one time most filters only worked on 8 bits/channel data.  Now many of them can handle 16 bits/channel.
    Once naysayers predicted that the Photoshop Photography bundle would shoot up in price.  Yet today it's still $9.99 a month.
    Once it was impossible to read Photoshop's UI on a 200+ ppi screen.  Now there's a new 200% setting for that.
    I'm sure I can think of other things.  And of course the software isn't perfect today.  It never will be absolutely perfect.
    Station_two, are you keeping up with the latest Photoshop releases?  If not, I submit that your rhetoric may be falling out of date.

  • ADF Menus for Page Navigation

    I have completed the [ADF Menus for Page Navigation|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/11/cuecards/adf_set_43/ccset43_ALL.html] tutorial.
    Everything work as expected, with one exception. The 'Add and Bind Navigation Pane Components' section has you put a Navigation Pane in the menBar facet of the panel header. In the Hint dropdown you select 'buttons' and set some other properties.
    When I run the finished project, the menu items in the menbar are displaying vertically instead of horizontally as the image with the tutorial shows. Why? How do I get them to display horizontally?
    I really like that menu model and plan utilizing it in real world application; unfortunately, have the menubar dislay vertically in the panel header is unacceptable.
    <f:facet name="top">
            <af:panelHeader text="ADF Menu Example" id="pt_ph1" size="0">
              <f:facet name="context"/>
              <f:facet name="menuBar">
                <af:navigationPane id="pt_np1" hint="buttons" var="menuInfo"
                                   value="#{root_menu}">
                  <f:facet name="nodeStamp">
                      <af:commandNavigationItem text="#{menuInfo.label}"
                                                id="pt_cni1" icon="#{menuInfo.icon}"
                                                destination="#{menuInfo.destination}"
                                                action="#{menuInfo.doAction}"/>
                  </f:facet>
                </af:navigationPane>
              </f:facet>
              <f:facet name="legend"/>
              <f:facet name="info"/>
            </af:panelHeader>
          </f:facet>

    Ok, I am still at a loss as to why this is happening.
    It seems to be related to the either navigationpane or the menu meta data.
    I have only foudn one difference so far. The tutorial states that JDeveloper us org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.model.XMLMenuModel managed bean class by default; however, my project used oracle.adf.view.rich.model.MDSMenuModel. When I use the XMLMenuModel, the only visible diference is in the Visual Editor and the Preview panes. The menus appear horizontally in those panes, but not when you run the application in a web borwser.
    Still troubleshooting.

  • Flash Player for Dreamweaver

    Hi All
    Does anyone know of a good and reliable flash player that i
    can put into pages in Dreamweaver?
    I am currently using the 'import flash video' function within
    Dreamweaver and my videos are becoming Jumpy and un-consistent.
    Here is what i mean:
    http://www.thewakeplace.com/videos/Harley_Feature.html
    I just need a plain looking player that streams the videos in
    a clean way. Just like how vimeo.com seem to do.
    Many Thanks in Advance
    JP

    And just a by the way - if DW can't get Flash playback right,
    then nobody
    can, I'd guess.

    * SQL queries that use MySQL functions may be corrupted

    * Changes to the Advanced Recordset dialog box.
    * XSL Transformation server behavior fails in PHP 5.1.4 (not

    David,
    Will this affect pages prospectively? In other words, if I

  • ANN:  Completely recreated PHP_MySQL UltraSuite for Dreamweaver CS5

    Folks,
    A completely recreated UltraSuite PHP_MySQL extensions package (Version 11.2) for Dreamweaver CS5 was released a few days back.  Actually, the best place to obtain the latest announcements and information about updates and new releases is dwUltraSuite.
    You may download this latest update from the UltraSuite site.
    The PHP_MySQL server behaviors were recreated keeping in mind user feedback for version 11.  Most of the deprecated code has been removed. Several extensions have been combined.  The code has been made more compact and new additional funtionality has been added especially to the Login and Uploads modules.
    J.S.
    http://ultrasuite.blogspot.com/
    http://bit.ly/gZjM8b

    Works intermittently in:
    DW CS5.5. (Version 11.5 Build 5344. Windows 7. Lorem and More 1.3.0.)
    DW CS4 (Version 10.0 Build 4117. Windows XP Pro. Lorem and More 1.3.0.)
    identical behavior in both
    It works fine IF:
    I open a file, go immediately to Insert | Lorem & More | choose any combination of Type, Format and Amount and click OK;
    I open a file, click anywhere in the file or move the cursor with the keyboard arrow keys and then choose Insert | Lorem.... (etc)
    BUT, if I type any keyboard character, number, Enter, Space or Backspace, then Lorem & More will NOT work.
    If I then close the file, reopen it and try Lorem & More again without first typing anything in the file, it will work.
    EDIT: just discovered that it will work again if I give the focus to something outside of the Document window (for example, click on a file or folder name in the Files panel, launch Help, click in the CSS Styles panel or Properties panel), then repeat the Insert | Lorem... steps. Also, it works if I click on something outside the Document window, then click again in the Document window. So:
    Type anything in the document
    Insert | Lorem....
    = FAIL
    Type anything in the document
    Click somewhere else in Dreamweaver to remove the focus from the Document window
    Insert | Lorem...
    = WIN
    Type anything in the document
    Click somewhere else in Dreamweaver to remove the focus from the Document window
    Click back in the Document window where you want to insert the lorem ipsum
    Insert | Lorem...
    = WIN

    Hey guys. I've just started using Dreamweaver to create a website. I included a navigation bar that i created from scratch in Adobe Flash CS5.5. I have imported the file to my website in dreamweaver but when i try to preview the file in a browser like chrome i get this output:

    Any idea what is causing this problem? The .swf file runs fine when i preview it in dreamweaver itself( The Play option).

    Actually no. Im guessing there are quite a lot.
    There are only a few, but they could be deal breakers:
    1.  Some people do not have Flash players installed (for whatever reason)
    2.  Screen readers do not 'read' Flash, so your pages will be inaccessible to those using screen assistive devices
    3.  Search engine spiders may or may not be able to find your links within the Flash, with the potential downside that your site will appear to only have a single page in it.
    Should I go on?
    So i guess i should just scrap this and move onto a Javascript version then.
    Your words, not mine!   Just make sure that the javascript is only used cosmetically - there are javascript menus out there that embed the links in the javascript, and that will give you the same results as a Flash menu....
    DW's built-in Spry menus do not do that, so check them out.

  • Flash Navigation Not Working (the swf works, but the external links don't)

    I used Illustrator and Flash Catalyst to make a navigation bar for my website, but it's not working... I click links and nothing happens. I click one of the links to the sub-menu (the "careers" button and "advertising" button go to other menus) and those work fine, but the links themselves aren't working, even though they were when I first uploaded it...
    I've double and triple checked, and they all have the right links associated with them in FC, so any ideas on what I should do to fix it?
    The site: http://www.sorean.net
    ALSO: Anyone not using Firefox, if you could see if they work for you, I'd much appreciate it.
    Anyway, you click on the logo to bring the main menu back up if you're in a sub menu... But I've had to put text-based links above the navigation so that it wouldn't be a huge inconvenience while I'm trying to make it work.
    Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    - Amanda

    I figured it out... I was trying to use the navigation on multiple layers (sub-folders) of my site, but putting a full URL makes the external links NOT work
    like "http://mydomain.com/file.swf" instead of just "file.swf" but when I changed it to NOT include my domain, it works great. ... SO, I did have to put a copy of the swf in each sub-folder, but that's ok, 'cause as long as it works, I'm good. I'm so excited.

  • Best way to insert non-flash photo album in Dreamweaver CS5.5

    Using Dreamweaver CS4, I created my wife's art website.  It is:  www.tanglewoodbrushstrokes.com
    To insert photo albums, I used Bridge and Fireworks.  Once past the initial learning curve, I was able to create these albums fairly easily.  However, these albums have two limitations that I would like to address.
    1.  Adding or deleting an image requires creating a new album and then posting it on the page.  Now that I have practice, it doesn't take me very long to do this but there must be a simpler way.  As you will see on my wife's site, she has many pages of photo albums.  Moving photos from her "Recent Creations" page means those images my be disbursed over three or four different albums.  So this can be very time consuming.
    2.  The albums created in this manner are flash galleries and are not visible on Iphones or Ipads.
    I recently purchased Dreamweaver CS5.5 so I could use HTML5 in order to make my site work on Iphones and Ipads as well as PC's.  I have nearly completed the tutorial and am about ready to create a new site.  Today I have done some searching for ways to use non-flash galleries and have not come up with a definitive answer.
    As you can see on my wife's website, the galleries are fairly simple.  All I really need is a page of thumbnails leading to a larger image with a description.  I want to keep it that way.
    Any suggestions?

    There is no one size fits all solution to this.  You're using DW to make a gallery and it's not really a gallery creation tool per se.  It's web authoring software.  So whichever gallery solution you choose it's going to come from someplace else.  And then you must integrate it into your HTML pages.
    Personally, I really like dynamic slideshows with jQuery.  Add some PHP code to your page.  Upload jQuery   scripts and optimized images to your server.  Done.
    To swap images later, add/delete files from image folder on server. Done.
    You can see a live demo of this below:

    If you want to generate a lot of different galleries quickly, look at JAlbum.  It's a commercial product that creates the thumbnail images & HTML pages for you.  There are lots of skins (styles) to choose from and you can further customize layouts with CSS.
