What's the graphics file format of the imported image files?
What conversion have you specified for the output, assuming that ePub workflow is similar to XML and HTML, where image destruction is controlled by:
File > Utilities > HTML Setup
[ Options \... ]
File Format for Images:
(_) GIF (_) JPEG (_) PNG
{any new choices in FM11?}
And since FM converts image formats for some workflows, those files have to reside somewhere, so access and permission problems could arise.

Converting Framemaker files into PDF progaramatically using publishing server

Background:
We are going for upgrade of Frame maker 8 which is on unix system to FM 10 or 11. We are using Framemaker mainly for renditions, i.e to convert the fm documents to PDF. To convert fm document to PDF we are using the below mentioned command line utility available in FM 8.(on unix). /opt/app/frame8.0/bin/fmprint -i -p Sample.fm.fmtpl Sample.fm Currently the the fm file which need to converted to PDF and the FM 8(installed) are available on the same unix system ,so we were able to initiate/use the command line utility of FM 8. The rendition of the FM to PDF is On -Demand.( We are not running any batch activities/ bulk renditions).We are rendering the document as soon as the document is available.
Requirement:
As we are going to upgrade the FM to newer versions which would be installed on the Windows machine as Frame maker 10 or 11 will not support unix plat form, so can you please let us know which option is better to use i.e we want to convert fm file to PDF using java program without any manual intevention using publishing server/client version.
can any one help us as it is very urgent for us.
please let us know the ways to do and links for helpful documents .

How to Invoke tasks created in FrameMaker Publishing Server from the Windows command line

Hi All ,
i would like to know how can we Invoke tasks and schedules created in FrameMaker Publishing Server from the Windows command line.
we used publishing server mainly to convert Frame maker files into PDF and that should be do progarmatically without manual intervention on Demand.
so could you please let us know how can i invoke rthe task creted to convert FM file to PDF in FrameMaker Publishing Server from the Windows command line.

FrameMaker 12 Publish Crash

Using Framemaker 12.0.1.331 all publish operations crash if the document contains a UserString of 1 or more characters in a table element. We use UserStrings in this way to hold metadata about tables such as database keys and effective dates.
The Mif looks like this: [We would normally have an xml fragment here but this is enough to produce a crash]

Incidently a zero length UserString doesn't result in a crash.
Looks like a bug to me.

Thank you for all your efforts with this. However, the UserString issue is not fixed with the FrameMaker 12.0.2. Here is the way I am testing this:
1) Create a new Portrait FrameMaker document.
2) Create two small text frames at the top of the page.
3) Select one frame and run this:

var textFrame = doc.FirstSelectedGraphicInDoc;
textFrame.UserString = "Set with ExtendScript";
alert (textFrame.UserString);
The fifth line displays "Set with ExtendScript" like you would expect. However, when you comment out the fourth line and just try to display UserString, it displays "undefined".
I tried selecting the second text frame and repeating the test with FrameScript:
Set oTextFrame = FirstSelectedGraphicInDoc;
Set oTextFrame.UserString = 'Set with FrameScript 6';
Display oTextFrame.UserString;
It displays the UserString like it should. When I comment out the second line and run it again, it still displays the correct UserString. If I save and close the document and reopen it, it still displays the correct UserString.
FrameScript 6 is correctly reading and writing the UserString property, but ExtendScript is not. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thank you very much.

Publishing server doesn't work - error 'The request URL doesn't contain the query string for the client OS'

Hi,
I'm trying to setup an App-V environment in my lab.
I've used the App-V 5.0 Trial guide to help me configure all necessary components.
I'm able to install everything without error.
when come time to publish an app, it simply doesn't show up on my client.
after looking at events on the client and server, I found that the Publishing server is returning under Admin the following message.
'The request URL doesn't contain the query string for the client OS'
My setup is pretty simple.
App-V Server managament and Publishing on the same box
App-V database on my SQL server.
I'm able to see the publishing "webpage" by using http:://localhost:889.
It only display this :
-<Publishing Protocol="1.0"
<Packages />
</Publishing>
I've published one app from the management console.
any idea what could mean this error?

I've validated the suggested debug steps. It seems that the problem is with my Publish server again.
I've looked in the web.config file. It seems to be missing some parts compare to the example provided.
Again, I've published an application from the management console. Management and Publishing are running on the same box, while SQL is remote.

Error Event ID 103 on publishing server

Hello everyone
I started migrating my environment from App-V 4.x to App-V 5.0
I installed one App-V Management Server and one App-V Publishing server, I created a new group called App-V Admins which includes all the App-V administrators and the machine accounts of both servers and I added it to the local
administrator group on both of the servers so they will have full permission on each other
the management server seems to work fine but the publishing server get
AuthenticationFailed when I navigate to http://localhost:82.
on the event viewer of the publishing server I see the Error Event ID 103.
as a workaround I tired to install the Publishing role on the Management server and there - everything works fine and I can publish packages to clients without any issues.
firewall is disabled on both servers so there's shouldn't be any block
I re-installed the publishing server, changed ports... everything I could think of... I still get that annoying error
my environment is a bit restrict in general because it's a finance organization, so permissions on DC are not widely open but still, I even tried to add permissions on my DC's root for App-V Admins and it makes no difference.
anyway, following TechNet, there's no special permission request so I don't even know if that's the problem

What operations did you do when you met this issue?
Whether you created some event receviers in your SharePoint.
Please provid access to nt authority\authenticated users group in the master page gallery as read.
Repairing SharePoint installation, compare the result.
If this issue still exists, I suggest you install the latest CU to check if it works.

App-V 5 Publishing Server + Load Balancing (NetScaler) issue

All,
I have attempted to load balance my App-V 5.0 deployment, which includes two nodes (appv-1 and appv-2) on a Citrix NetScaler VPX appliance.
The management server is working fine, when browsing to the load balanced VIP DNS alias - pass-through authentication works great and the management console is displayed.
When I attempt to browse to the load balanced VIP DNS alias for the Publishing Server, it prompts for authentication credentials, then displays the following error:
Method not allowed. Please see the service help page for constructing valid requests to the service.
When I attempt to browse using the same internet explorer instance to http://appv-1.fqdn:8088 it displays the XML page after entering authentication credentials.
Here is my set-up & what I have done....
Appv-1 Server
Management Server installed on Port:8088
Publishing Server installed on Port:8090
SQL Cluster and Mirroring configured (tested and working)
Appv-2 Server
Management Server installed on Port:8088
Publishing Server installed on Port:8090
SQL Cluster and Mirroring configured (tested and working)
NetScaler
Management VIP: 10.1.1.148
Publishing VIP: 10.1.1.124
Both Appv-1 and Appv-2 are setup as services and bound to the corresponding Virtual Servers.
Load balance alogrith - persistence - source IP: 255.255.255.255 - Least Connection
DNS and AD Modifications
host A record - appvmgmtsrv.fqdn = 10.1.1.148
host A record - appvpubsrv.fqdn = 10.1.1.124
computer object create in same domain for appvmgmtsrv and appvpubsrv
SPN Modifications:
setspn –A http/appvmgmtsrv:8088 domain\appvmgmtsrv
setspn –A http/appvpubsrv:8089 domain\appvpubsrv

IIS Modifications:

Rebooted and IIS starts correctly.
Testing
On Appv-1 if I browse to http://appvmgmtsrv.fqdn:8088/console.html it asks for authentication, when authentication is entered it fails.
On another other machine in the environment if I browse to http://appvmgmtsrv.fqdn:8088/console.html it automatically loads the console with the credentials of the logged on user.
Launching the Management Console via Load Balanced DNS name works on every other server except itself.... assume this is Kerberos modifications? (This only happens when I disable the appv-2 node on the load balancer, forcing all IIS connections to Appv-1).
The management server issue above is not a big one and can work around that easily. The major issue is with the Publishing Server. .. .
On Appv-2 if I browse to http://appvpubsrv.fqdn:8090 it will prompt for authentication, once enter it displays: Method not allowed. Please see the service help page for constructing valid requests to the service.
in a new tab if I enter http://appv-1.fqdn:8090 it will prompt for authentication, once enter its displays the XML page with App-V meta-data.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue please.... When I update the App-V client with the load balanced publishing server VIP DNS it displays the following error in the event log:
Getting server publishing data failed.
URL: http://appvpubsrv.fqdn:8090
Error code: 0x45500D27 - 0x80190195
Any help will be greatly appreciated. ....

Unable to print a PDF file using the BI Publishing server

Hi,
I have a BI publisher server version 10.1.3.4.2 on W2K3 43 bit.
I can access through the url that server.
From my desktop I access through an url my Oracle APEX application.
It has been configures with:
Report Printing:
Print Server Protocol: Advanced (requires Oracle BI Publisher)
Print Server Protocol: HTTP
Print Server Host Address: the IP address of my BI Publisher server
Print Server POrt: 9704 (from instllation of BI)
Print Server Script: /xmlpserver/convert
On the page I want to print, it is configured with:
Download:
PDF option is checked.
When I click on Action -> Download -> PDF for this page, I get the error:
<file>. pdf file can not be opened because the file type is not supported or because it is damaged (because, for example as an e-mail attachment is not sent and correctly decoded)
Does someone has an idea what the problem is and where I should investigate further?

If you are trying to print to the Adobe PDF printer and that fails, try using print-to-file. Then open the file in Distiller. If the result is the desired PDF, then check for AcroTray running as a background application. Sometimes it has to be restarted, but should be in your startup (you can check msconfig from the start>run menu to see if AcroTray is there).

Since you are starting Publishing server, you should login into CRS BCC and not ATG CRS Application.

I have a 2 server SharePoint farm.
All outgoing emails were working fine.
I just restarted both servers and now after that none of the emails are being sent. I am using OOB publishing workflow and it shows message:
The e-mail message could not be sent. Make sure the outgoing e-mail settings for the server are configured correctly.
Even if I setup Alert on some list, it doesn't send email.
I have checked that outgoing email setting in CA is defined and like I said it was working fine without problems but after restart it is showing error.
What could be the cause of this and how to fix it?
EDIT
I removed outgoing mail server in CA, added again and restart IIS but still emails from OOB workflow is not being sent. But email from Alerts are being sent. Don't know what to do now.

This is really weird, It works when an alert is set but workflows doesn't send emails... Can you create a simple 1 Step workflow in SPD to send an email when a specific field is set. See if this sends an email..

I created a test workflow which sends email to user and it is also not sending email. But I am getting email from SharePoint regarding "variation" page changes as well as alerts which I told above.

BI Publisher server vs. Siebel report templates

I am investigating creating BI publisher reports using data from Siebel.
Do you know what the advantage is of integrating BI Publisher with Siebel vs. using BI Publisher Desktop to create report templates and just adding these into a Siebel database to view the data that way?
Putting this another way, are there any advantages to running reports in BI Publisher server vs. running them in Siebel?
E.g. Is there anything else you can do with the data in BI Publisher server that you can’t do in Siebel?

Hi,
The Main Difference is that reports in Siebel can Manipulate data, whereas BI publisher can only read data and publish processed output, it cannot Modify data in the Database.

I have SP 2013, and it was working properly. and workflows send emails perfectly. yesterday, i decided to build a fresh site collection so i deleted the old one and created a new one. now, workflows are unable to send emails. i'm sure it has nothing to do
with my mail server cuz no changes happened to it. i'm sure about the settings for outgoing mail on central admin. all i did, was to enter mail server IP in outgoing mail field and email below it.
in the workflow status the status says "error" followed by this message: "The e-mail message cannot be sent. Make sure the outgoing e-mail settings for the server are configured correctly."
Any help please?

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to send email after building a fresh site collection.
I recommend to verify that you have entered your SMTP server name correctly.
You can add it as FQDN e.g. ServerName.DomainName.

I agree with Bistesh. But after Outgoing e-mail settings are configured properly, if the issue still exists,
It may result from your Anti-Virus. Please refer to the following steps:
Open MCAfee Console and go to Access Protection window.
Click Anti-Virus Standard Protection and edit “prevent mass mailing
worms from sending emails” rule.
Now we need to know which processes are being blocked therefore we need to check the MCAfee Log located at
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\DesktopProtection\AccessProtectionLog.txt
you may find entries of DtExec , DtExecUI and DatabaseMail90, now these processes need to be entered in the exclusion list of selected rule .
Reset the IIS And SharePoint Timer service to check if this works for you.

Transfering reports to other publisher server

Hi all,
First of all, all the best wishes.
Is it possible to copy the reports that you made on a 'devolop' publisher server to a 'test'publisher server, and so on?
Or what are the best pracitices to work with this problem?
I can't find anything about this in the manual or in blogs.
We are working with an OTAP street (this must be DTAP street in english or something)
(Develop, Test, Acceptation, Production) so we want to copy reports from one server to another.

Hi,
you can copy and paste the folders of one repository to the other and synchronize via the UI as Administrator. A pitfall could be the datasource names in the xdo-file. If you only have changed the templates (rtf) you don't need to synchronize, they are used automatically with the next call ... that's the way I use, but perhaps there's something more sophisticated.
