Hello all,
I'm working on my first InDesign job. It's upaid and I'm doing it for my portfolio.
Everyone on these forums have been greatly helpful and I was hoping one of you could take a look at our screen via i-chat and let us know where we might be running into issue with the text that was created in Photoshop. Please send me a message letting me know what you would charge (in an hourly rate) to work with us. I've been watching tutorials and learning a lot, but I'm still a beginner with Indesign and I have to make sure that this magazine prints perfectly. I have a lot of people counting on me. I could pay via paypal or check. I need someone with a lot of experiance working with offset printers. I don't have the greatest communication with mine who is in China.

Our 3rd party extension causing DW CS3 to crash ... looking for consulting resource

We have been maintaining an extension that creates Plateau
(LMS) compatible questions since Dreamweaver MX2004. We updated it
to work with Dreamweaver 8, and then updated it again for
compatibility with Dreamweaver CS3. However, the extension now
seems to crash Dreamweaver CS3 after we create a question (i.e.
close the extension window).
My feeling is that there is something in Dreamweaver that has
changed since the previous version, either in the API that is used
by code somewhere in the extension's files or in the way the
application interacts with the extension's HTML. Something is
making Dreamweaver unstable, and it does not seem to be any of the
new code that we put in during the extension updates.
I ran the crash through Visual Studio's debugger, but all I
got was a cryptic error message: "Unhandled exception at 0x0083a03e
in Dreamweaver.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location
0x00000090." Looking at the disassembly did nothing to make the
issue any clearer.
Is anyone else experiencing crashes with extensions in CS3?
What would be some of our options here? Are there
consultants/experts who we could discuss an engagement to look at
this?
Or if the issue is within CS3 API - is there some one from
Adobe monitoring this forum who might be able to point us to a
technical sales person where we could discuss fix options with
Adobe?

You'll get quite a bit of free expert help in this forum if you post specific questions and show us your code.
HTML, CSS & JavaScript are not hard concepts to learn on your own. PHP/MySql is more advanced and should be undertaken only after you have a working knowledge of the other three.
It would help us help you if you tell us something about yourself.
     a) How much coding experience do you have?
     b) What do you feel most & least comfortable with?
     c) A brief description of your project goals.
     d) A link to your site (if you have one).
I can only speak for myself but like most people here, I regularly donate time to this and other forums while simultaneously working on client projects. If you need a bit of hand holding while you work through tutorials, Adobe forums contain a pool of worldwide product users who are available 24/7. Owing to differences in time zones and other commitments, a private consultant might not be as convenient to reach when you have burning questions.

Looking for a software development company or expert programmer for plugin

I work for a company that hosts web software that many newspapers use to power their online websites. We are interested in working with an expert individual or firm in programming extensions or plugins for InDesign. The goal is to build a function within InDesign that gathers all of the newspaper articles from within an InDesign file and send them through the internet into our online system *from within InDesign*. In other words, we are not interested in a "save to xml" type of option... we are interested in an option that would be called "Send articles to website" which would scrape together all of the content, package it in a structured way, and upload it to a drop box of come kind hosted on our server. From that point, programmers at our company will write the server-side routines to detect the uploaded materials, parse through them, and populate the site.
Again, I need someone who's a proven InDesign software expert who can create a cross platform solution for our needs. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

New to inDesign - looking for help with creating booklets

Looking for a tutorial/answer on how to set up my book so that the pages can be printed, folded in half (like a brochure/magazine) so that I can bind the pages myself in a book. Not sure if my page size would be what I want the finished book size to be or if I need to double the page width setup size, because I will be folding them in half to put the book together. I know there must be a magic button as well that will sort the pages and keep them in the right order, once I fold them. Does this make sense to anyone?

I'm not sure if this is posted in the right place; if it's
not, please don't flame me -- just let me know and I'll remove it.
I am an academic, working with two colleagues to produce a
DVD-Rom for the academic market (we have a publishing contract with
a University Press). The project is basically a "chapter" format
with forward/back controls and a main menu. It includes Quicktime
video.
I'm the person responsible for actually authoring the project
in Macromedia Director, but I'm only an English professor, i.e.
enthusiastic amateur! I've got the files mostly assembled, but I'm
not confident of my ability to produce a fully professional title.
We are looking for a consultant to help us out with these things:
*** Working out how to implement a "bookmark this page"
function.
*** Work with me to understand what I need to be aware of
while completing the files. This might include giving me advice on
scripts to use for successful memory management, advice on what
quicktime codecs to use, advice on any other scripts I should
understand (e.g. how to change monitor res, preloading flash &
video, quicktime detection etc.).
*** Advice on how to pop up full-screen video, what Xtras I
will need, where to get them etc.
-- we are funding this through a university grant which
expires on November 30th, so the work needs to be invoiced by then.
We are also on a *very limited budget* by your standards - about
$6000.

My company is looking for a consultant with NKE experience

My company need to write an NKE in order to port our product to OS X. We've studied the documentation and example NKE projects and know what to do and how to go about it.
However, that's in theory, when developing for an OS on which you have no experience its always slower, and obstacles are encountered, and you can't be 100% sure the design is optimal, or won't create unanticipated problems.
So we're looking for somebody with proven expertise in developing NKEs who may be interested in some paid consultancy work on a per-need basis, activities could be design review, code review, guru to ask questions if something unexpected happens etc.
We're based in Vancouver, Canada. If there is somebody nearby in the Pacific Northwest that would be ideal as it means face to face meetings are possible. But this isn't essential.
