[ANN] New Developer Poll on JDeveloper home page

Check out the new developer poll and let us know where do you deploy your J2EE applications.
http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev

The comments on the blog center on why Hibernate was not included, which I would have liked to see also.
What I wonder about is what these numbers actually represent. I think you would get very different results from a poll on TheServerSide or anywhere other than technet. I mean, I would never have heard of BC4J if we hadn't tried JDeveloper as an IDE, which we probably wouldn't have bothered with if we didn't already license a lot of technology from Oracle, making JDeveloper a no-additional-cost solution for us. Similarly for TopLink, if we didn't already have a Smalltalk application that uses TopLink, I think it would have been unlikely that we would have understood how much it can do for us. And even then, we weren't going to use the Java version until Oracle bought it and it suddenly became another no-additional-cost solution. What I'm saying is, if we weren't already an Oracle shop, we'd probably be working with Eclipse and Hibernate. I actually think that JDeveloper and TopLink will provide us with a more robust solution, but I'd feel better about the long run if I thought that this approach was gaining more acceptance in the industry as a whole.
TopLink may have brought a fair number of not-necessarily-Oracle people with it, but I'd like to see JDeveloper and UIX used by people who don't already think of themselves as an 'Oracle shop'. If we were using BC4J, I'd feel the same way about that. Unfortunately for JDeveloper, unless Oracle can find a way to market it better, I think the wider acceptance of technologies like UIX and BC4J may not come until you can use them as easily with other IDEs as you can with JDeveloper.

  • Window to create a new incident missing in the home page of a key user.

    Hi all,
    we facing the following problem in SM 7.1 - SP10. We test the incident opening ZMIV as key user and in order to keep read-only the field "Installed base component", we applied the OSS note 1926788.
    All seems ok, but when we define a business role ZSOLMANREQU, copy from SOLMANREQU, and we assign it to Role configuration Key ZSOLMANREQU, window able to create a new incident disappears in the home page of the key user.
    Let me explain with some screen shot:
    Whit this configuration for business role SOLMANREQU
    the key user connecting to SAP CRM has the following home page (window to create a new incident exists):
    When we change configuration:
    The key user is not able anymore to create a new ticket in the CRM, as you can see below. The window is missing.
    Is it possible to maintain the "Create new message" window?
    Thnk yo very much
    Best regards
    Ines

    Hi Vikram,
    thank you for your reply!
    I checked my customized role configuration key ZSOLMANREQ, but this is only a definition in the customizing:
    SPRO/Customer Relationship management/UI Framework/Technical Role definition/Define Role Configuration Key
    Or maybe did you mean Business role?
    Thank you again!
    Ines

  • Viewing new SMS messages on my home page - Pearl 9100

    Can the BB Pearl 9100 show new SMS messages on the home page if the Today layout is selected? This was possible on my old BB 8110.  I wish to see new messages without having to click to the next screen.
    I loved my 8110 and know that if I can find a solution to above, I will love my new 9100 more.
    Grateful for any advice given!

    Yes you can use a Today theme with messages & sms.
    it will be enhanced even more when the OS6 will be available.

  • Want new tab to open to home page and why does firefox not have a simple check box in the options because I can't keep going through a long procedure each time

    I want new tab to open to home page and why does firefox not have a simple check box in the options because I can't keep going through the long tedious procedure each time I install firefox. It is something that should be in the options tab , and I want to know why it isn't. I am totally frustrated with firefox and getting ready to switch.

    You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
    *https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
    Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
    If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

  • I am trying to remove all my RSS feeds from my News Folder on the Safari Home page. I can't figure out how to do this. Irving

    I ammtrying to remove RSS Feeds from my News Folder on the Safari Home page. There should be an easyway of doing this but I can't figureit out.
    Irving

    Ok I figured it out myself But for anyone else with the same problem I tried re-setting my network settings and that did the trick. I should have thought of that!

  • How do I make new tabs default to my home page instead of a blank page?

    My home page displays when I launch Firefox, but if I click the icon to open a new tab, the new tab displays a blank page. I want it to default to my home page.

    Try this excellent add on: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/newtaburl/ NewTabURL]
    thank you

  • When open a new tab, I want the home page to come up, but it's something else. How do I change this? Thanks!

    If I click the + to open a tab, it comes up to a browser window that I don't want. I have changed the "home page" to what I do want, that didn't seem to work, even when I restarted Firefox.
    How can I change the screen that comes up when I select a new tab? Many thanks in advance for your assistance!

    There is an extension to do that -> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/

  • How can I make a setting so that new tabs bring up my home page?

    When I open a new tab I get this lame empty page. I want my home page to come up! I know I can just click on the home button to do this but how can I set up Firefox to do it automatically? PS when first opening Firefox there is no problem - home page loads fine.

    You can do that by using an add-on such as:
    * NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
    * New Tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage

  • I have set home page, what option do I use to set new tabs to open as home page?

    I have set home page default. What option do I use so that new tabs open as home page?

    You can look at this extension:
    * NewTabURL : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl/

  • How do I make all new tabs open with my home page?

    When I open a New Tab, it opens with a blank page.
    Is there any setting which will force each New Tab to open with my Home Page?

    New Tab in Home Page: You can modify Firefox with an extension, though I personally would not want that at all, before dismissing a tab I make sure there is nothing in the tab in a backward direction, and would consider looking at anything but a blank page for a new tab as a distracting encumbrance but you can do what you ask for.
    with the following:
    *NewTabURL :: Add-ons for Firefox<br>https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl/

  • How do it set new tabs to show my home page rather than blank page?

    Whenever I click on a "new tab" is shows a blank page. (it use to show the Mozilla user update page) However, I wish to see my home page "Google" every time I open a new tab.

    You can look at one of these extensions:
    * NewTabURL : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2221
    * New Tab Homepage : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/777
