ANN: Setting up PHP in Mac OS X Leopard - tutorial

The Mac PHP package created by Marc Liyanage that I recommend
in my
books is not yet compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). The
new
version of Mac OS X comes with Apache 2.2.6 and PHP 5.2.4
preinstalled,
but not enabled. Getting them up and running involves a few
simple edits
to text files. Detailed instructions can be found on my site
at
http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/php_leopard.php.

Hi Sheila,
I am using a mac air and ipad mini. My mac is OS X 10.9.1
I looked at your link and used it step by step to set it up but was advised to initially put in a dummy email so that it allows me to add in imap.
Firstly my ipad is all working and my hotmail account is well synched. However with my mac after adding my hotmail account is does not work 100%
Inbox shows up along with all my folders, however i have the following problems:
1-attachments seem to be 'empty' when i try and open them?
2-when i do things on imail it does not seem to synch with my original hotmail account online, but my ipad and original hotmail account synch perfectly. ie. if i read an email on ipad it shows as read on the other, same with deleting emails etc. but this does not happen on the mac.
3)I then went to add another email account (hotmail) and all the folders appear with emails in but the inbox reamins empty, i can still send emails from this account but no new emails show in the inbox despite emails showing in sent, draft etc.
I have been told conflicting information about what to put in as server names when setting up the account, maybe this is the problem?
Also should i be able to view attachments in emails when offline? My email is not so so large so i would like to be able to?
Thank you in advance for any information.
Simon

  • Integrated PHP in Mac OS X

I'm trying to install MagickWand, a PHP API for ImageMagick (an open-source Unix image editor). I need to untar the directory in the /ext directory in my PHP source directory. The problem is that, since I'm using the built-in PHP (v. 4.3.11), which I didn't install, I don't know where the source directory is. The "which php" command in tcsh gives me "/usr/bin/php", but that's not a directory; phpinfo() tells me the php.ini file is in /etc (and /etc does contain a file called php.ini.default), but, again, no directory. What should I do?
    PowerMac Dual-2GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi,
I don't what you have to do after putting the files in the ./ext/. directory, but here are hints where to find this directory.
The php-ext directory can be found at:
    /usr/include/php/ext
And if you don't find a php.ini in /etc you should create one. This is easy.
If no php.ini can be found, php uses defaults, that is the reason, why something is set within php to values.
Just copy the /etc/php.ini.default to /etc/php.ini and you got it.
Now you can change the /etc/php.ini file to values you like and don't forget to restart your Apache-Server.
    Two ways:
    1. within System-Preferences turn off and turn on personal websharing
    2. apachectl restart
During the restart your new /etc/php.ini file will be used.
You can check if you change one of the default values and and after the restart call the phpinfo()-Routine again and you should see the new value set.
    Hope that helps,
    ~ Markus

  • My ipod was set up on a Mac. Now I have a PC and want to sync my music on iTunes, but I can't without reformatting my drive and losing my music.

My ipod was set up on a Mac. Now I have a PC and want to sync my music on iTunes, but I can't without reformatting my drive and losing my music. Help. I no longer have a Mac. I want to keep the music and videos I purchased. Since it is an iPod classic (80GB) I cannot even use the iCloud. Is there a way to move my ipod's music so I can reformat it to my pc?

WIndows is asking you to reformat the iPod's hard disk because it's probably in the Mac OS X Extended Journaled file system format which the Windows OS can neither read or write to.  Reformatting will erase all content from the device and rebuild the filesystem as FAT32 unless you specify it as NTFS (which you shouldn't do).
If you want to be able to use your iPod to copy music from your Mac to your PC, you'll need to either pre-format it as FAT32 using Disk Utility on your Mac and then copy everything over to your PC, or use third party software such as XPlay that allows a Windows PC to read and write to a Mac formatted iPod.
Perhaps you could take a look at this article for other ways to copy your iTunes library and files from your Mac to the PC.

  • I am new to LR and have it set up on a Mac desktop and laptop.  On the laptop, the Basic function under Develop simply disappeared.  I am lost.  Help.

Question:  I am new to LR and have it set up on a Mac desktop and laptop.  On the laptop, the Basic function under Develop simply disappeared.  I am lost.  Help.

It's a common issue. The Basic panel is merely hidden.
Hiding/unhiding panels is actually a feature of Lightroom but it is unintuitive - few people know it exists - so most newcomers are thrown when a panel somehow gets hidden.
Right-click anywhere in the right hand side panel area and a context menu will appear.
Click the Basic option to make the Basic panel re-appear.

I suspect both since I think both are based on the same engine. I've seen numerous articles refer to both programs simultaneously.

  • Setting up php

i am trying desperately to set up php and can't get there without some serious help on one issue. ive gotten php, phpmyadmin, mysql, and apache running. BUT i can't figure out how to get rid of the following warning that appears on the phpmyadmin home page:
Your configuration file contains settings (root with no password) that correspond to the default MySQL privileged account. Your MySQL server is running with this default, is open to intrusion, and you really should fix this security hole.
i dont know where the configuration file is, or within that file where the root & password need to be modified. please someone help me out. im almost up and running and this obstacle has frustratingly kept me from learning php for months.
    thanks in advance

MySql is telling you that the 'root' user does not have a password assigned to it. The 'root' password is unassigned to access the program on install. You should definately change this asap.
Go to your terminal app in utilities folder and launch it.
    1. Start the MySQL monitor by typing: mysql -uroot.
You should now be connected to the monitor and it will give you a welcome message.
    2. The comand prompt should have chaned to 'mysql>'
User rights for users are stored in a database called 'mysql' You need to change to it to change the 'root' account's access details.
    3. at the prompt type: use mysql.
    A message displays 'database changed'
4 To give the root user a password type the following (and replace yourpwd with your own password). Be carefull here, the password is enclosed between two single quotes and a semicolon at the very end of the query. The semicolon tells MySQL that it is the end of the query.
    Type: UPDATE user SET password = PASSWORD('yourpwd') WHERE user = 'root';
    5. To remove anonymous access to MySQL is next.
Be carefull here too, two single quotes next to each other (no spaces) at the end of the query and followed by a semicolon.
    Type: DELETE FROM user WHERE user = '';
    6. Now flush the privileges.
    Type: FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Test it now by closing the monitor.
    Type: exit
Close the terminal window and open a new one.
Now try to get into the monitor again by typing at the prompt: mysql -uroot
It should not let you in this time.
To gain acces in future type: mysql -uroot -p
It should ask you for the password you set up as described above. Enter it and press return. You should be in!
Your MySQL should now be more secure with an asigned password to the root account.
Now go back to the web interface of installing MySQL and specify the user as 'root' and in the password field add your new password you gave the 'root' account as specified above. That warning should now be history.
Remeber! Do not delete the database named 'mysql' because all the user accounts and access levels are stored there.
    Hope this helped you.
    Regards,
    Q.

    Thanks!

Well, it may be too late for this, but the easiest way to set
    up a new mac
is to just connect it to your old one via FW during set up to
    transfer
    everything.
Otherwise, you can import/export them individually:

  • My daughter's MacBook was stolen today in OKC and she didn't remember setting up find my Mac. Does this come already set up in the default settings?

My daughters MacBook was stolen today in OKC and she doesn't recall setting the find my Mac to "on".  Is it set to on as a default?

No, you have to set it up yourself in iCloud...does she have an iCloud account?
Setting it up is a matter of only checking a box in the iCloud services list.
Try logging into iCloud: https://www.icloud.com and go to Find My...and see if it is listed per chance.
