  • How doI stop it opening the internet with Creative Commons and use another search engine e.g. Google?

When I first go to the internet with Firefox, then want to type in what I am looking for, it opens with Creative Commons. I would MUCH rather it opened with a search engine such as Google. How do I change to this? N.B I am using a Mac.

    ''morflorian wrote:''
if the migth-be protocol has no handler, assume it is just a search engine request).
The main problem with that would be that Firefox would fail to notify the user in case of a valid protocol that's not associated with a program, and would instead send the URL as a search query. Firefox would appear broken, when in fact the problem is with the external application. That's far from desirable. This isn't an uncommon occurrence with externally-handled protocols like ''magnet''.
Also, I don't think the vast majority of people are likely to run into this problem. Even those that do can easily work around it, by placing the search words first (e.g. ''gingerbread intitle:recipes''), or by starting the query with a search engine keyword (e.g. ''g date:1 heartbleed aftermath''). To assign a keyword to a search engine, click the icon in the search bar and choose Manage Search Engines.
If you feel very strongly about this, head over to the ''#firefox'' [http://irc.mozilla.org IRC channel] and see if you can find someone familiar with the File Handling component. If they think this change is a good idea, you could then file a bug report.

  • Online search engine code using Spring+JDBCTemplate

    Hi ,

    Hi,
I think to export the logic to the beans will not help a lot, because the .jsp and the beans are compiled together to a servlet anyway. And so, it doesn`t really matter, where the logic has been befor, after compilation it will be in the servlet.. But to have java code logic in the bean and not in the jsp is a good idea anyway. It is always nice to have as few scriptlet code as possible, makes the application more readable..
I think you should better have a closer look to the search logic, and the database. For such huge data amount, the Oracle database would be the best. And then let the database do as many of the search work as possible, because java is a little slow, and the database will be allways faster for this things of work..

  • Toolbar search engines keep reappearing after closing Firefox after "Managing" and unchecking "Show search engines" box. Why?

I have gone to "Manage Search Engines", deleted the ones I don't want, and unchecked the "Show search engines" box several times. Every time I close and re-open Firefox all of the original search engines are back in the list. Why is this, and how do I fix it?

Hello AleishaDawn1980, default search engines are stored in the Firefox [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory installation directory] in the "searchplugins" folder, you can find and delete the "*.xml" file (e.g., "google.xml") if you like.
If the search engine you want to delete is a newly-installed(you install it) then it is store in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox profile folder] again in the "searchplugins" folder, find it and delete it.
    thank you

  • FF4 freezes when loading default homepage, Google and when using search engines

Whenever I open FF4, it will freeze/hang when loading the default homepage, Google.
Same with the problem on other search engines, Yahoo!, MSN, Bing, etc.
    Search engines main problem.

Do you have the McAfee Site Advisor installed? If so, remove it from your PC and try using any search engine with FF. Removing the Site Advisor worked for me, seems like FF 4 b10 isn't compatible with the Site Advisor.

  • How do I get rid of ZoneAlarm search engine in the address bar and middle-of-page search box?

I downloaded ZoneAlarm firewall. It has you install Chrome and choose its search engine when you download. I'd heard these were easily removed afterward. I reset Google in the upper right search bar.
Now Firefox starts OK, but each time I use a tab to open another window the ZoneAlarm search is in the address bar and the center search box, and Google search is in the upper right search bar. How can I get rid of all ZoneAlarm search everywhere?
I have the latest version of Firefox and Windows 8.1.

You can check if you have the ZoneAlarm search engine file in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program or in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
You can delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • I've been using firefox for years, and i'm very upset with the 34.0.5 update's changes to the search engine feature.

    hi,
this new search engine is incredibly convoluted, and i put some real thought into why it's bad
the dropdown menu contains more things than it used to. previously only a list with icons and titles and a link to options...now only icons (with no options to include text), a reiteration of your terms and current engine, separators between each icon, and loads of potential results from auto-complete (which i disabled immediately). though taking up less space by forcing icons only, more things were added, giving the user more clutter in less space.
having a permanent default search engine is counterproductive to the feature's previous nature. this was supposed to be there so i can quickly change between websites i'm searching, now it's been equated to the search feature in the address bar (which i am now also unable to change the function of on the fly, as changing the search engine used would also change the address bar's search function - perhaps influenced this change?). it's now faster for me to type the website i want followed by my terms into the address bar, just like when i use chrome. this feature was one of the largest reasons why i preferred firefox over chrome
i would commonly leave my search engine on merriam-webster when writing papers, wikipedia when doing research, etc. and now i have to click which one i want. every time. with every search that isnt default, unless i change my default through the options constantly. this is incredibly tedious. most irritating of all is the inability to use hotkeys to select my search engine, the lack of ctrl+up/down. previously i wouldnt have to use my mouse often at all, which is imperative for laptop users
so yeah, ive put some real thought into this, and i'm very unhappy. this greatly hinders my browsing experience. heard the saying "if its not broken, dont fix it"? ive been using chrome in conjunction with firefox for a few years now, and it's been painful to see mozilla attempt to imitate it. i will be using chrome more often in the absence of this feature (i am right now, even). i'm also upset that i was unable to find a public message boards hosted by mozilla to voice my opinion, and i apologize to whoever customer support employee that (probably didnt) read this - please pass it on to the devs and tell them internet people are angry and said they fucked up. thanks.
and i beg you, please give us the option to revert back to the old interface in future updates, or at least an official extension overriding this awful update. i realize i cant request this really, and yes im upset, yes im sending an angry email - thats because this is something i use often and i am passionate about it
    sincerely,
    pissed

You can use the Tab key to select a search engine on the bottom bar and press Enter to use the search engine to do the search.

In the current Firefox 34 release there is a new "one-off" search bar.
This search bar doesn't show the name of the search engine and a logo.
You can type one letter to make a drop-down list appear where you can see suggestions and see the used search engine and that also has bar at the bottom where you can select other search engines that are enabled via the Search tab in Options/Preferences.
You can use the Tab key to select one of the other available search engines and press the Enter key to search with the selected search engine.
Click the search engine icon and click "Change Search Settings" to open the Search tab in Options/Preferences (positioned between Tabs and Content) to select the default search engine and select which search engines to show in the search bar drop-down list that opens when you start typing search terms.

  • How to get rid of Yahoo which has replaced itself as the search engine on safari . I have tried going to safari and changing the default search engine to google and the homepage to no avail can anyone PLEASE help

After updating Firefox . I notice Yahoo has taken over as the search engine on safari . I have gone into safari and changed the default browser and home page to google but yahoo is still there . Can someone Please tell me how to get rid of Yahoo . peter

Since I looked everywhere for this answer and never found it I decided I needed to help!
    1. GO TO THE TOOL BAR WHERE IT SAYS SAFARI AND CLICK TO BRING DOWN THE MENU OF OPTIONS, CLICK ON PREFERENCES
2.INSTEAD OF JUST CLICKING ON THE GENERAL TAB AND CHANGING THE SEARCH ENGINE LIKE EVERY OTHER STUPID SUPPORT TELLS YOU TO DO LOOK AT THE TAB THAT SAYS EXTENSIONS.
    3. Chances are you downloaded something that was made by a third party to "enhance" your web experience but really they just screwed you over, YOU CAN CHOOSE TO SIMPLY UNINSTALL ANY EXTENSIONS PUT ON YOUR COMPUTER BY CLICKING INSTALL, BUT TO BE SURE THAT THIS IS THE ROOT OF YOUR PROBLEM IN THE SECOND COLUMN SIMPLY CLICK ON THE UNDERLINED NAME OF WHO THE EXTENSION IS MADE BY IF CLICKING THE LINK BRINGS UP A YAHOO PAGE THIS IS THE SOURCE OF YOUR ISSUES AND SIMPLY UNINSTALLING THIS WILL RID YOU OF THIS  DUMB PROBLEM!!
    HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!

  • I just installed the latest version of Firefox and now the Google search engine won't work. Why?

I just installed Firefox 30.0 and now my search engine isn't working. Is there something in the new version interfering with Google search?

Are you using the Search box located at the top right corner of Firefox or the actual Google homepage?
I see that you have a user.js file currently active in Firefox. It's only there if you or a 3rd party program created it otherwise it's not normally there.
You can delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release. You can get to the profile folder below:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory > Show Folder
    or
*Go to '''about:support''' and click Show Folder next to Profile Directory.

  • Spry and Search Engines

I like the framework and the ease of use. Does anyone know to
    what
degree the search engines will evaluate the spry tags, if at
    all? My
guess is that a hybrid will be needed as discussed at the
    bottom of this
    page:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/data_set_overview/,
    and
    here:
    http://domscripting.com/blog/display/41.
Any other ideas? All of my customers are extremely
    search-engine sensitive.
    Rod

    Hey Rod,
As far as I know, search engines read source code. In that
regard, Spry Data in general will fail since, the content is not
    kept in the source code.
Check out the data set overview about the spry:content
attribute. That is used so that pages are more accessible and it
helps search engine stuff as well.
It allows you to have static content on the page, but
spry:content will replace that content on the screen with its data.
So this allows for content for search engines to read, plus
the dynamic aspect of spry data.
But in general, Spry and Ajax, doesn't yet play well with
    these other technologies.
    Hope this helps.

  • I dont know all of sudden firefox search engine changed from google to my search and i cant get rid of that

all of sudden a new search engine started in place of google and i cant get rid of that even i uninstalled and reinstalled many times but that problem still there, seem to be some some type of bug in latest firefox .

    Hi naveen,
You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[Search bar]]. Your default search might have been changed by a particular site. Sites like MSN, Yahoo, etc have been know to ask to become your homepage and change your search engine.
If the address bar search has been changed as well, you might want to take a look at [[Location bar search]].
If that doesn't work you should look at the article [[Preferences are not saved]]. We've also got a [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/removing-babylon-searchqu-or-mystart list of common search related issues] that might be helpful.
Finally, your issue may be because you've been hit with some [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Is%20my%20Firefox%20problem%20a%20result%20of%20malware?s=malware&r=0&e=sph&as=s#w_how-do-i-get-rid-of-malware Malware].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • I have installed bearshare and now when I open firefox, my homepage disappears and the my google search engine is now bearshare which I don't want.

I installed bearshare as my program for downloading music, but after installation, my homepage has disappeared and my google search engine has changed to bear share.
I want google as my default search engine.

To revert to Google as your preferred search engine, please do the following.<br><br>
    * In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
    * In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''<br><br>
    * Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q=<br>
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
'''To reset your home page, do the following'''.<br><br>
    * Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.<br><br>
    * Click the orange Firefox button and go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''.<br><br>
    * Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.<br><br>
    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.<br>
After you complete the above steps, install this add-on to prevent another search engine from modifying your preferences: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/browserprotect/
''''''EDIT'''''': After you complete the above steps, go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the Bearshare Media Bar. It may be called "BMB".

  • Material for Quoting and Sales online

    Hi Team,
I am new to Oracle Quoting and Sales online if any body has document regarding this modules. Please share with me.
My email id is [email protected]
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Shiva,
thanks for giving a hint. I would consider that as difficult - it is an option for me indeed, as a consultant, but I wonder if it can be handled by the business users in the end on a regular (yearly) basis. In addition these records/agreements would need constant adminitration, as new materials are opened - as would the BDCs. The experience with user here was to keep it as simple as possible (as always maybe).
From your answer and the lack of other answers I assume that everybody has/would stick to the standard here and solve this through configuring the condition records appropriate. Therefore I will try to add new access sequences or try to stick to the product hierarchy somehow to be able to put in different materials for settlement.
To sum it up in one sentence: If you want to determine the profit center product oriented in the sales order you need to maintain dependent data also on a product oriented level.
    I still appreciate comments.
    Regards,
    André
