Anna browser - Google search missing

Prior to Anna I regularly used the Google search window sst the foot of the browser window. With Anna installed I could not find the search window and had to revert to visiting the Google site. Which is a complete pain and a backward step.
However I found that removing Swype while testing the fix for 'no split screen' had the added benefit of bringing back the Google search option, now accessed by clicking into the address bar.
The cause of the problem appears to be that the swype window fills the while screen and doesn't allow the search pane to drop down.
What a pain. How can nokia be alerted to this bug to allow them to update Swype?

ummm where does one get this swype update? cuz I checked Nokia store and im running the latest they have available...

  • Web/Country drop-down missing from Google search-tools

    After updating to 35.01 and now to 36.0, the Google search results page now behaves differently between Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. The issue is that the "search tools" used to ALWAYS show the web/country choice filter (drop-down), but now only shows 2 options, that is the anytime filter, and the all-results filter. Chrome still shows consistently, all four options (web/country, anytime, all-results, local-location).
    After reading various articles on this, and checking likely options in about:config, I found that the ONLY way I could get this back to "normal" was to override the "browser.newtab.url" setting as follows:
    browser.newtab.url;https://www.google.com.au
    NOTE: I have NO problem or blockage in changing my home page (it is set to www.google.com.au) and do NOT have any malware, or the Trovi/SearchProtect/Conduit add-in.
    This can still occasionally get the missed options, but it is now 90% consistent. It would be good to get a permanent and proper fix for this. If anyone has a better more rbust method, please let me know. TD

    Hmm, maybe I should have mentioned the more general advice to clear cache and your Google cookies, in case something "stuck" is causing this problem.
    '''Cookies''' - While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    In the dialog that opens, google.com.au should already be entered at the top to drill down to just their cookies. You can remove the cookies individually. I suggest also changing the filter at the top to google.com and removing those as well. Then do a "full" reload using Ctrl+Shift+r.
    Does it make any difference?
    '''Cache''' - To flush the cache, you can use:
    "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

  • How to change the default browser for "Search in Google" pop-up menu?

    This issue has come up for the last three OS X releases, at least, and it's still here for Lion.
    I'm in Apple Mail and select some text. I want to search on the term using Google. Right-click brings up the context menu with "Search in Google." This inevitably results in Safari opening for the search.
    Chrome is definitely set as my default browser. Clicking links in email messages brings them up in the proper browser. "Search in Google" does not. Wherever this context menu item is selected (Mail, TextEdit, etc.) it opens Safari instead of the default browser.
    As far as I'm concerned, that makes the context menu item useless, since I do not use Safari.
    Has anyone figured out a workaround?
    Has anyone in the OS X team at Apple paid attention to this issue? It is not new.

    This post helped me.

    Basically, the "Search in Google" extension is from Safari and it can be disabled in System Preferences.
    System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Services -> Searching and unchecking "Search with Google"
    It worked for me and I also disabled a few other right-click options that I never use.

    Type '''about:config''' in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' button.
    * Preferences that have been modified are shown as '''bold (user set)'''.
    * Preferences can be '''Reset to the default''' or changed via the right-click context menu.
    -> In the '''Filter bar''', type '''browser.sessionhistory.max_entries'''
    * Right click the preference '''browser.sessionhistory.max_entries''' and click '''Modify'''
    * Change value from 0 to whatever you want over 0 (Default value is 50)
    * click OK
    -> Close the '''about:config''' tab and then Restart Firefox.

    If another uses the computer with their own user account, everything
    is kept separate in each users folder. Only if someone used your account
    would that be an issue.
    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Google search in MacOS - how to make firefox the default browser?

    Hi there!
    I tried to address my issue looking in the forum as well as other websites; not too fruitful.
    In most of the applications in MacOS, let's say in mail, when you open an email and select a word or a sentence, ctrl+click, you can "search in google" for what is highlighted.
    Although my default web browser is Firefox (everytime I click a URL, firefox opens), every time I use the 'search in google' option, safaris pops up.
    Any hints? any way to get the OS to search in google using firefox by default?
    Thanks!

    no. this particular function is hard coded into OS X apps like Mail. it therefore doesn't matter what your default browser is, google search will always use safari.

  • Where can I download firefox 3.6,firefox 4 is terrible ? I used to be able to put a key word in the address bar and go straight to the site now I get a stupid google search. I really hate firefox 4 if I cant go back i will use another browser .

    Its all the little things I don't like about firefox 4 mainly the layout and the search.I thought my browser would get an upgrade, this is complete downgrade ,I never went with firefox for speed .I went with firefox because i hate toolbars and I loved the fact I could put tpb only in the address bar and go straight to the pirate bay or ww.bbc.co .uk by typing bbc

    The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
    To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''keyword.URL''', double-click on it and change its value to the link shown below
    [http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q= http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=]
    If you prefer, you can also do this by installing the Browse by Name extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/browse-by-name
    Firefox is highly customizable and you may be able to customize it to meet your needs.
    If you do not like the new UI, you can make Firefox 4 look and behave more like Firefox 3.6, for details see http://www.computertechtips.net/64/make-firefox-4-look-like-ff-3-6

  • In the search bar google search engine missing (and others)

    A number of search engines have gone missing. I guess I can add back the ones I've added in the past but Google is missing and I'm not sure how to add that back.

    After I upgrade to Firefox, the "Restore Defaults" is not available.
    Might as well as said click the selection that is not available to do the thing that you want.
    Really irritating that Yahoo has confiscated my search bar and completely kicked out Google. This is the first time that Mozilla has really irritated me enough to switch to Chrome.
    Bye.

    I just installed Firefox 4 today. When I try to change the keyword.url settings in about:config to do a "I'm Felling Lucky" Google search, it just resets to chrome://browser-region/locale/region.properties whenever I restart Firefox.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
    * Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
    * SuperAntiSpyware - http://www.superantispyware.com/
    * Ad-Aware - http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
    * Windows Defender - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx
    * Spybot S&D - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html

  • HT2523 Google search in the right-click menu doesn't open in default browser

    Hi ...,
    Please share any suggestion that might help solve this issue.
    Thank you in advance!!

    Oh, wow that makes sense! Thank you for your reply and tips!!
    The link you gave is for Lion, but ok -- still props/kudos!!!
    I found this Chrome extension:
    "Highlight to Search"
    allows you search keywords by highlighting instead of typing them into a search box
    Google Highlight to Search is a browser extension that helps you search keywords easily.  After you highlight keywords within a web page, you'll see magnifying-glass icon appear below the highlighted keywords. By either clicking on the icon or the keywords itself, search-box with Autocomplete enabled appears for you to search quickly and easily.   By installing this extension, you agree to these terms: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/intl/en/gallery_tos.html This extension uses Google Search, and the data related to the query will be handled as described in Google's privacy policy: http://www.google.com/intl/en/privacypolicy.html

  • How do I prevent browsing and search data from being forwarded to Google by Mozilla, while still using Mozilla's Firefox as my default browser?

    I do enjoy using Mozilla's Firefox as my default browser, BUT, I don't enjoy the details of my life, to include my Internet activity, to be archived by Google, or anyone else, via Mozilla's/Firefox's sharing of my Internet browsing and/or search engine activity with any aspect or facet of the Google organization. With all of this said, my question is, "How do I prevent browsing and search data from being forwarded to Google by Mozilla, while still using Mozilla's Firefox as my default browser?"

    Firefox's default behavior includes no automatic interaction with Google.
    We do use Google as default search engine and to report web forgery in the 'help' menu, but no data are sent to Google without your knowledge, and you can change your preferred search engine at will.
    However many websites themselves make use of Google Ads which do cause interaction with Google when you load the webpages. This is visible in status bar and happens in any browser. The [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript NoScript] add-on for Firefox can largely save you from this problem.
    If you see things happening otherwise, please reply with details on what you see.
