Anna vs NoAnna

From my experience: NoAnna.
As in: NoAnna wants their phone to become useless.
Ever since I upgraded my E7 last week, I've stopped counting the number of times I've had to restart my phone, or reset it with power button longpress.
To tell you the truth I actually expected this to happen as I've gone through the exact same scenario when the N95 came out. That 1st software was horrible, but I can't remember resetting the n95 that much. It lagged a bit, but picked up, unlike the E7. At moments it seems the phone is downloading pictures from the Hubble, and can't bother doing anything else, including allowing me to answer an incoming phone call, since the screen is COMPLETELY unresponsive to a variety of touches: soft-touch, hard-touch, irritated-touch, gentlest-touch, knuckle-touch, and even shake-shake-shake-shake-touch. Sliding the screens is also on the my phone's will-do-but-later list.
Initially I though the Nokia Bubbles app is to blame, and removed it.
Then the Sleeping Screen app, and removed that as well, but at that point I just said: Hey! The phone is supposed to do what I want, and not the other way around.
Now my phone doesn't freeze up ALL the time, but just now-and-then, particularly when I want to use it. It probably works like a charm when I'm not "bothering" it to do something, like type a message, or make a call, or check the time.
Have you tried pairing your new Anna device with Windows 7 Bluetooth? Nokia has managed to downgrade the BT software in Anna. You can not pair an Anna with Win7 BT.
If I had a choice to downgrade I would. This way the only option I have left is to delete EVERYTHING on my phone, hard-reset it, and reinstall the whole shabang from scratch.
Maybe by the time I'm finished Belle will have come out, and I can do it all over again. (?!) Yipee.
Maybe it's in the name. "Anna" sounds much like a "banana". In my country's slang that means a dud or something bad.
Maybe Belle will be: "Well, well, they've done it."
Or maybe it will be: "Well! I need a well to throw my phone in it and put me out of my misery!"

The Belle update is a major change to the Anna firmware with the ability to add up to six home screens and a radical re-design of the GUI. Performance of the phone is a lot faster as well.
However, there are a few known issues that Nokia are working on such as the inability to play some FLV videos.
You should search this forum for known issues with Belle before commiting yourself to the update, as there is no way back to Anna should you not like Belle.

  • What Is the Diffrence Betwenn S60,Anna and Belle?

    Let me know this....

S60 is also known as Symbian^1. Anna and Belle are different versions of Symbian^3.
Symbian^3 can be found on devices such as the N8, C7 and X7 whereas Symbian^1 can be found on older devices such as the 5800XM and X6.
Some of the main differences are the ability to add multiple homescreens and widgets. But most of the differences are "under the hood" for better performance and usability.
Anna and Belle are two different versions of Symbian^3, with Belle being the more recent version and having a complete new UI and the ability to add six homescreens as opposed to three in Anna.
In case you are wondering, devices running Symbian^1 cannot be upgraded to Symbian^3 due to hardware limitations.

This will only transfer iTunes purchased music, not ripped CDs. and it is unnecessary now, as the music can just be downloaded from the cloud.

  • Symbian Anna update 1/2 failed to install

The story so far. I did the first round Anna update (around 27 mb i think) OTA cos my Ovi Suite never able to update firmware on my n8 since trying to update it to PR 1.2, and I did try reinstalling, redownload, reboot PC, reg clean, ccleaner to fix the Suite but it still do not update my firmware at all. But that's another story.
So I installed the 1st round, n8 rebooted to white screen, rebooted into homesceen with Midnight theme. SW update then shows 4 more items: Anna update 1/2, 2/2, Store and Social. The 1/2 was showing around 20++ mb. So I selected all 4 and update. Halfway through the installing process of 1/2 update (note the download part of 1/2 was very fast), I did plug in the power pin, cos the installation process was damn slow for 1/2. I did not notice wheher it finised installing cos later i checked it was already on 2/2 (downloaded and installing). It then went to the last two items and installed ok.
Rebooted device, but SW update still showed Anna update 1/2 available (the only one left) and the download size is now 7166 kb. I proceed to update it, it failes with error but no error codes or any message what was the error about. I tried again and again, with fresh reboots, still failes. What gives?
Even more, split screen not here. I did the uninstalling Swype, activating qwerty mode in portrait, still no split screen.  I do not have any Betalabs apps.
My Quickoffice & Reader is not here anymore (the app manager not showing them too). Heck I bought the full ver of Quickoffice 6 last time. Wat a waste of my money now that ver 7 is out!!
Anyone knows how to delete the "dowloaded cache" of SW updates? I want to force SW update to redownload this 1/2 item to try fix this issue.
Thanks for listening and please help. Cheers!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I got the same problem since this morning on both my N8 & just found out solution on a previous update error similar to this & completed the update on one of the N8. Re-trying on another one.
Working Solution for failed update was found on Flashism's website quoted & "touched up" per below:
Big thanks to user “Unick” on Nokia Support Forums, who posted a working solution to the problem, and there are couple of successful installs reported from the solution.
I just deleted folder E:\Private\20019119\. After that I ran SW update on the phone & it restarted download of Symbian Anna Update 1/2 & 2/2 as well as Social, they  finished updates successfully.
To delete the mentioned folder, follow these simple steps:
    • Connect your Nokia N8/C7 in Mass Storage mode to PC via USB cable
    • Locate and delete folder named “20019119″ under \Private folder of Mass Storage
    • Unplug the device from PC, and retry again. It should work.
However, I still got no popup split keyboard after completing the updates & restarted the phone.

  • Few apps don't work after Anna update

I got a new N8 recently (my last one was stolen, insurance covered most of it though) but with the same product code and everything. Of corse, it didn't come with Anna pre-installed (it actually came with PR1.0 and I remembered how horrible the phone used to be). However, I updated to Anna with Ovi Suite without problems but I had a few weird experiences with the additional 1/2 and 2/2, for instance, when the phone found these updates it said that they were about 30-40 kB which obviously is wrong, and it took a while to install them. Then later I got them both again but this time they had the right size. 1/2 installed without problems but I had to try with 2/2 several times before it (")worked(").
Anyways, some apps like fMobi (pay-version) and the swedish app for public transportation don't work anymore. Don't know if they did on my last N8 after update. The additional updates were supposed to fix some non-working apps but it certainly isn't that way with my N8...advice please?

Just to point out that the fMobi stopped working in my N8 too after the update.
    Uninstalled and reinstalled no end.
But I found that if you go to the fMobi facebook page, he say's that wiith the new controls put in by facebook, it has somehow messed up the App. Check his page out and see what he says.

Likely whoever sold you yours flashed the local software to the device, but left the product code unchanged,
When you updated to anna, your phone picked up the Chinese variant firmware and the FM was again disabled
    Your options
    1) Take it to a nokia care point and ask them to flash woth the local firmware and change your product code, there may be a charge for this and they may refuse to do it

  • Fring Not Working after upgrade to Anna

I recently upgraded from Symbian 3 to Anna on my Nokia N8. After upgrading, I downloaded and installed Fring and although its installed but its not logging in!
Before upgrade, I had Fring on my N8 and it was working without any issues.
    Does anyone have any solution?

Email received from fring and I quote
"Thank you for contacting our support team.
Please note that your device is supported only using the Symbian ^3 version, the Anna and Belle updates are not supported by fring at this point, did you update your device to these latest versions? "
So why is this? Why are we constantly told to update when it just breaks things?

    Hi Anna,
first of all, please check your receipt again,
if you've purchased anything else during the period it might appear as if it's related to Zombie Farm (Apples receipts are a bit hard to read to be honest.)
If this is indeed not the case and you have indeed not purchased anything from us, yet have been charged 239 DKK, there's obviously a big issue.
However, we're not in charge of the money handled in purchases, as Apple has chosen to be the only one controlling this.

  • Hotmail sync problems - HELP! (Nokia N8 - Anna )

    Hi
I got a problem with my hotmail sync.
I deleted my account without wanting to, and now i want it back - before I could sync all my folders in the hotmail account, but when i'm trying to make a new account it only syncs the inbox/sent maps? The other maps doesn't even appear on the screen when I go to maps.
How do I set up the account in a way so all maps are sync?
    Please help!

I had two hotmail accounts on my nokia c7. one of them stopped to synchronize. I deleted it and I tryed to reconfigure again but it will not let me. I did a soft reset, a hard reset, installed all updates (anna), but still does not leave me. I put the sim in another nokia c7 and let me set up the account correctly. ¿¿¿¿¿¿????????¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿????????????¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿????????????
In nokia care they told me to delete the account in messaging web, before configuring the account in my phone, but it did not work

  • Missing features in Symbian Anna (Is it only me? o...

I installed the Symbian Anna Update which was released yesterday (18th August 2011) and got trough the update process despite the difficulties the Software Updater in my phone caused. After the update I noticed some features are missing:
(Not Adobe reader or Quickoffice, they were available after the update.)
    1. The animated pop-up notification that I got when I connected to the internet is missing in Symbian anna. (It's really annoying because I can't actually see what access point my phone is using unless I look harder.)
    2. The Games folder is missing (The Icon with the game controller on it)
    3. No wallpaper in the Default "Midnight" Themes.
    4. Homescreen Rotation is a bit jumpy. (The operators name doesn't appear with the rotation animation. It jumps in)
If anyone encountered any of these problems, please let me know. If you have a solution I'd really appreciate it. Or if these things are normal. Well I'll wait for a future software update from Nokia.
I have a Nokia C7-00, I tried reinstalling the Software update and Soft-Resetting but non of it worked. Just so you know.
    Thanks,
    Lasiru.

    Hi,
Seems that you have downloaded an old version of OWB. The new version is 9.2, not 9.0.2 and it is as far as I know only available as a standalone download.
The version of Developer Suite currently on OTN is more than a year old.

  • Symbian S^3/Anna Calendar Meeting Request (Invitee...

First... I want to explain how this came about. I've never sent out a Meeting Invite from my Nokia N8 (PR1.2) to anyone before. However, in the days of collaboration, people send & receive Calendar Appointments to and from different Email/PIM Clients.
Since Symbian Anna announced that it will have "e-mail invitations with full meeting request support"... I ran a test with a buddy of mine that had Symbian Anna.
This is also because iPhone users can 'send invitations' during Calendar Event creation and this meeting request magically appears in my Google Calendar.
Why are't Nokia generated meeting requests appearing in e-mail and Google Calendar???
    Observations:
    a) When I send out a Meeting Request (via E-mail or SMS), my Nokia N8 PR 1.2 (Pre-Anna) - sends the attachment as Calendar.vcs, which has a totally different format from the meeting.ics that is read by e-mail clients. Is the meeting.ics a change in Symbian Anna? I am assuming that Calendar.vcs is an internal Nokia to Nokia format. This does not work in this day and age of people using many different brands of OS's.
**Side Note: I am in Canada. When is my Anna Update for my Vanilla Nokia USA N8 going to be available???
    b) When I receive this Calendar.vcs as an attachment in e-mail, it is not translated as a Calendar Invitation item at all in my Gmail or my PC E-mail Client. Why?
Calendar.vcs is sent out as "Application/Octet-Stream" in Base64 Encoding by the Symbian Email Client or the Nokia Email Servers??? Why???
What does Application/Octet-Stream tell the receiving email client? This is an application attachment. Treat it as such.
    c) When I asked my friend who has a Nokia N8 (PR 2.0) Symbian Anna to send me a meeting request, I get an email that has an attachment "meeting.ics" -- let's call this Specimen A -- when it arrived in my Google Inbox, it is not seen nor translated as a Calendar Item.
By this time, I got confused...
So I sent an Appointment/Calendar Request from my Novell Groupwise and sent it to my Google. I also receive a "meeting.ics" -- let's call this Specimen B. However, Google was able to immediately translate that this meeting.ics is a Calendar Item and neatly displays it as such, asking me to say YES, NO, MAYBE to the Calendar item. It even magically inserts into my Google Calendar.
So I was even MORE confused!!!
Here is what I have gathered from reading the Message Sources.
    Nokia meeting.ics (Specimen A)
    - attachment meeting.ics is sent out as MIME TYPE Application/MSPowerpoint (this tells the receiving client that this is a powerpoint application and is not translated as a Calendar Item)
    - attachment meeting.ics is sent out encoded in Base64
    - meeting.ics files is missing PARTSTAT=NEEDS-ACTION in each Attendee (tells the PIM Calendar that this Calendar Request needs to be acted upon with an Accept/Deny)
    Novell Groupwise meeting.ics (Specimen B)
    - attachment meeting.ics is sent out as MIME TYPE Text/Calendar
    - attachment meeting.ics is encoded in 8-Bit
    - meeting.ics file has PARTSTAT=NEEDS-ACTION for Attendees.
So what is the difference? Why is the meeting.ics (Specimen B) from Groupwise readable by Google Mail/Calendar while meeting.ics (Specimen A) from Nokia Symbian Email Client not readable at all?
So I did a small test.
I edited Specimen A meeting.ics from Nokia Email Client and added to th PARTSTAT=NEEDS-ACTION Attendees.
I sent these in 2 Test Emails to my Google Mail.
Test 1: Original meeting.ics from Nokia Email without PARTSTAT=NEEDS-ACTION
Test 2: Altered meeting.ics from Nokia Email WITH PARTSTAT=NEEDS-ACTION
I send these "meeting.ics" tests via my Groupwise Client as an attachment file.
When I received both in my Google Mail, Google is able to properly render this as a Calendar Item and display it as such, asking me to say YES, NO, MAYBE to both instances of the Test Emails.
So, maybe PARTSTAT=NEEDS-ACTION has nothing to do with this then...
I forwarded the test messages back to myself to see what MIME-TYPE Groupwise sent this as this time.
It sent it as TEXT/PLAIN and encoded in Base64. So now, we know Base64 Encoding & 8Bit Encoding is not the culprit.
So I ponder more. WHY WOULD NOKIA EMAIL CLIENT SEND OUT meeting.ics as APPLICATION/MSPOWERPOINT???? *.ics file extension is not even related to anything Powerpoint.
So if meeting.ics is sent out by the sending email client as text/calendar or text/plain, the receiving email client is able to properly translate this and render this as a Calendar Item (Request).
However, because Nokia Email Client send this out as "Application/MSPowerpoint", the receiving email client will think this is an e-mail attachment for PowerPoint and will not display the Calendar Item properly.
MIME-TYPES. Something so basic, something that would cause a HUGE ERROR.
Is this a BUG? I THINK IT IS...  PLEASE FIX THIS ERROR. PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!
So... THIS IS A FAIL. Nokia!
Collaboration is also part of "Connecting People". If Person X using Outlook, Person B using Crackberry, Person C using iPhone, Person D using Android, Person E using a Nokia Symbian cannot collaborate and send/receive/accept/deny Calendar Items they send each other... isn't there a HUGE DISCONNECT?
I am hoping, actually, I am praying really hard to the many gods and dieties that this will be forwarded immediately to the Nokia Email Client Team to be looked at and an Update Immediately made available.
    Thanks.

    Hi Joe,
    1.      Whether the sender and recipient users are on the same AD site?
    2.      If the user uses OWA to access the Meeting Request message, whether is it still displayed as a normal email instead of a meeting request?
I would like to explain that a meeting request should have MAPI property “PR_MESSAGE_CLASS” which value is IPM.Schedule.Meeting.Request. A normal message will have the MAPI property “PR_MESSAGE_CLASS” which value is IPM.Note.
    The issue may occur:
    1.      Some third-party software such as spam filter software and disclaimer software change the mail format
    2.      Some Add-ins on the Outlook change the mail format
To troubleshoot the possible cause 1, I suggest that you enable Pipeline Tracing:
Using Pipeline Tracing to Diagnose Transport Agent Problems
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125198(EXCHG.80).aspx
Note: Because Pipeline tracing could place a large amount of strain on a system, I suggest that you disable it after gathering the information.
To troubleshoot the possible cause 2, I suggest that you disable the Add-ins temporarily:
    Disable third-party add-ins of Outlook
    ==================================
    1.      Backup and then remove the following two registry keys:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins
    2.      Restart the Outlook by using “Outlook /Safe”

  • News from Telstra regarding ANNA

    Dear Mr XXXXX
Thank you for your enquiry about the Nokia N8 ‘Anna’ software release. Unfortunately, we were not able to release any N8 updates due to an issue discovered with the first update (PR1.1) by Telstra. This update was found to introduce a serious issue where the N8 freezes/crashes after making an emergency call to “000”. Nokia acknowledged this as a fault/bug on the device on the 20th May 2011. Since then we have been in weekly discussions around resolving this issue.  The issue was finally slated for resolution in PR 2.1 (also known as “Anna”) and Nokia delivered this to Telstra for testing on 24 October.
Testing has now been completed and the update is expected to receive Telstra endorsement/approval in the next week. We expect Nokia to have the update available for customers within 7 days of Telstra issuing the approval.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused but expect to be able to approve the final software in the coming days.
So there we have it ppl if you go to the top you get the answers you want.. lets hope they now follow through..

Top news Andrew... Lets work on this promise
"Testing has now been completed and the update is expected to receive Telstra endorsement/approval in the next week."
Typical Telstra, testing is completed but it takes a "in the next week" for the pigeon to deliver the news to nokia.
Hopefully nokia get the news and pull the big switch on the wall releasing all the trapped Aussie (T) Anna's.

  • N8 Anna browser differences / issues?

A couple of things I've noticed since the Anna upgrade, WRT the browser.
    1. When entering text in text windows for some forum posts (it actually works correctly on this forum, but on others I read / post to) the newline button doesn't add a line break. It did using the browser in PR1.2, can't remember the behaviour in PR1.1.
    2. When using the PR1.2 browser, I used to double tap on the screen to zoom, which worked very well. This seems to work quite differently in Anna.
Both are notable issues / irritations for me. I suspect 1 is a big / issue - whether 2 is expected or planned behaviour, or not, though I'm unsure.
Truth be told, I've not found anything hugely positive about the upgrade to Anna - all it's brought me is irritations in the differences or things that work differently. Performance and stability seem the same to me - which is to say that it's been good before and after Anna. The difference in look and feel just makes me feel meh. I don't mean to be overly critical, I kind of expected more from it, really.
My N8 (admittedly this is my 2nd - first encountered the bug where it won't charge, nor turn on) has been well behaved, performs well and is stable. Main irritations have been with things like WiFi access being, well, unreliable and flakey - and seemed to be best served with scanning turned off, and WiFi power saving on. Post Anna, that hasn't improved, WiFi is still flakey, and not fully reliable (and there is context, there, I've got plenty of other WiFi devices that are stable, including other mobile phones).
Photo viewer no longer picks up on all my photos any more since Anna (I'd have to move other folders, that worked just fine before Anna). Browser I've not found any benefits, and merely negatives. Portrait qwerty  means nothing to me, as I find the landscape one tricky enough to get key presses accepted accurately. Video player seems no better (still no bookmark facility).
3.06 of maps seems the golden release - every beta since has been awful, one way or another - too much removed or configuration options removed, and the app dumbed down (3.08 betas). I've tried 3.07 and both 3.08 releases and in all 3 cases have reverted to 3.06 once I became sufficiently irritated that functionality that I wanted or wanted to configure better had either been removed, or was no longer configurable.
Not sure what's going on with N8 software, but I'm considering imposing a software freeze on myself, because it seems that newer releases are doing nothing more than irritating me in not addressing things that need addressing, and merely tweaking look and feel, and dumbing everything down to make it less of a well usable device.

One step Forward-Three steps Back!...dont even start going on about the flash player lmho...What I need is to be able to butcher the N8's camera into my old N95 then there would be no problems
£400 odd quid for a 12 meg nokia camera, you can get an SLR for that money....But hey wait..."You can't browse the web with an SLR!!"...Oh it's OK, you can't browse it with Nokias Flagship either lmao
    *Shakes head in disbelief*
Here's the thing - I'm not a hater - I'm not just looking to bash Nokia. Personally, I'm drawn to their handsets because for me, OVI / Nokia maps is a killer app for me.
All the same, though, and it does really irritate - key things people have been complaining about, still not fixed. Basic functions that people have been wanting from various normal apps not implemented. Yet Anna looks a bit more funky.
Same with the mapping betas - well actually worse - 3.06 for me seems to work very well - practically all the key things working quite well. Not perfect, and certainly could be enhanced.
But the recent betas have been awful - ripped out functionality, removed configuration options, dumbed down functions - but again, it looks more funky. But it all just leaves me with a big "So what?". The newer versions simply don't work as well, are not as capable, and all with some dogmatic opinions expressed as the rationale behind why some things have been removed, some options removed, and some bugs not addressed.
If they'd just focus on getting the stuff that doesn't work well, to work, in the process not remove good features or configuration options that many will want to use, THEN - if they have the time - update the visuals, then fine. But I'm sick and tired with the focus on form over function - it's making me question my entire reason for sticking with Nokia handsets - their mapping app - and I don't want to be told that mapping on phones is due a paradigm shift - I just want it to work well, with the maps updatable and relevant.

  • Anna update has left me with an erratic email clie...

Since updating to Anna my email client has been so unreliable I have had to stop using it. The problem is that it hardly ever manages to send emails, even though it worked fine before. Not only that, but when a message is then left in the outbox, I am unable to do anything with it other than delete
