Anno 1404 on Wine

Hello,
i would like to play Anno 1404 on wine, as I don't want to setup an own windows partition.
I've installed it with wine, set the dbghelp.dll to native, and set DirectX to version 9 in the engine.ini of Anno.
Now i try to start it, but the intro isn't played correctly (instead of the video there are only colored blocks, but with sound). Then i see a brown background, with a full correctly working cursor. Then it changes the background color to a bright yellow. I have the working cursor, and sound, but no menu or images, only the yellow background.
On the console appear two different messages very often:
fixme:d3d:debug_d3dformat Unrecognized 909201952 (as fourcc: R16) WINED3DFORMAT!
fixme:d3d:getFormatDescEntry Can't find format unrecognized(909201952) in the format lookup table
I have a ati radeon hd2600xt (mobile edition), and i am using the open source driver (xf86-video-ati).
Can anybody help me?

Nagian wrote:Native Linux games, like supertux or neverball. The OpenSource driver has got 3d-accleration a few months ago.
Well yes, these are native Linux games, they work very well with the opensource driver, but not games with wine. I test the open source driver from time to time with wine games and so far I had 0 success. Supertux, SuperTuxKart, Neverball, Warsow and so on... they work really good. But Wine games... nope. At least not for me.

  • Touchpad problems playing Anno 1404 in Windows 7

    Hello,
I have a problem with my MacBook Pro Late 2013. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate without any problems using the Boot Camp Software and Instructions from Apple. I didn't expect this to work so seamless, but it did! BTW I installed the Boot Camp driver on the Windows 7 and the Touchpad works nice.
I want to use this partition mainly for playing some older games like Anno 1404.
But starting this game it has weird problems with the cursor position. For example if I want to click at a button in the menu I have to aim say 200 pixel right of the button to hover over it. It also happens if I use a USB connected external mouse.
So the question is did anybody experience same problems may be in other games or applications? Is there any way to configure anything in that area? May be the boot camp drivers break it, but it may also be the game that is too old.
    Thanks in advance
    Benjamin

I'm guessing it's just the old game and Windows 7. If you had XP it probably would be fine. (Which your MBP does not support)
Hey just had a thought, I know W7 pro has XP emulated in it so I would assume W7Utimate does the same, have you right clicked on the game icon and selected "Run under XP"? (can't remember exactly how it goes)
Apple only really supports the install of Windows so there's not a whole lot of information on the general workings of Windows.
Don't forget, this is a 99.9% native Windows install so if you think it's a Windows problem you might try the WIndows forums on the Microsoft support site and see what they have to say. If the game company is still around see if they have any updates for it.
Have you tried this link? I haven't been around for a while so the last time I looked at it this was way less then 300,000 views!!! You might want to just read a few of the first pages then skip to the last few pages and see if you think this would work for you.

  • MSI P35 Neo-F (MS-7360): Computer randomly freezes while playing games

    Hi there,
I have reached the end of my technical knowledge right now and I'm not even sure if this area of the forum is appropriate. The problem:
While playing higher-end games like Crysis 2, Anno 1404, Mass Effect 2 etc. my computer randomly freezes and the last few milliseconds of sound are being looped on my speakers (kind of like a buzzing sound).
By "freezing" I mean that my computer becomes unresponsive to any action other than pressing the Reset-Button or holding down the Power-Up-Button (no reaction to Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+F4, Alt+Tab, no mouse movement... you get it).
There's no exact timing as to when these freezes occur. The fastest freeze happened after less than a minute of playing a game, slowes one (just today after switching to my newer case with better cooling) took about 2 hours.
This freeze only occurs while my System is under load. No freezes while browsing the web, using office programs, listening to music or watching videos.
    System Specs:
        Mainboard: MSI P35 Neo-F (MSI-7360)
        CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @2.4GHz
        RAM: 4x 1GB DDR2-800 Corsair XMS2
Graphics: Gainward GeForce GTX 560 Ti, 1GB GDDR5 VRAM
PSU: Antec High Current Gamer 620W (upgraded from Xilence XP600, 600W)
New CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 13 Pro (upgraded from OEM Intel Boxed Cooler)
New Case: Zalman Z9 Plus w/ 4x 120 mm Fans (Upgraded from a Case with only 1x 250mm side Fan)
        2 Western Digital HDD (1x 2TB, 1x320 GB)
1 DVD Reader/Burner (unimportant for that error I guess)
        OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
        2 Screens: 1x 24" Asus VS248H and 1x 21" LG Flatron Wide W2240T
Since this error is bugging me for quite a while now and since this is not the first forum I'm trying to get help from, here's a list of steps i already took to get rid of it, obviously to no good use:
reinstalled games where the freeze occurred
updated all Drivers (including cleaning old versions in safe mode; also tried older drivers)
        updated BIOS to v1.A0
        Reinstalled Windows
bought new Case and CPU Cooler to improve Air Flow/Cooling
checked Seating of all components (took out, cleaned, reapplied thermal grease where neccessary, re-inserted)
cleaned old case of dust (obviously no problem in the new case, which is 2 days "old")
ran 7 sequences of Memtes86+ without any errors
ran Prime95 without any errors for about 45 Minutes
ran Furmark for 15 Minutes under full load (burn-in test) without any problems, even though my graphics card hit the 100°C frequency-cut level
ran Furmark and Prime95 simultaneously without any problems
took records of component temperatures and system voltages without noticing anything unusual (at least not after i switched to the newer PSU, which is about 1 Month old - yet didn't resolve the problem)
tested with cyclic removal of 1 RAM device to further rule out RAM malfunction
tested with only 2 RAM devices in dual channel mode (Slots 1 and 3)
tried to reduce RAM clock (800 MHz --> 667 MHz) to no avail
checked S.M.A.R.T. values of HDDs, no issues reported
        tested without any background programs
raised/lowered voltages to RAM, CPU and Chipset in BIOS to increase logic circuit stability/decrease heat production
I need to mention: After I transferred my system to the new case, i was able to play longer than average compared to my old case. So I am guessing that improper cooling was part of the problem, yet improving cooling obviously didn't resolve it.
Since these freezes are really annoying and nobody could help me resolve this so far, I'm hoping to find some new ways of narrowing down the problem or even getting rid of it here.
    Regards
    Sebb

Lets be realistic. A system with a 560TI is recommended to have a around 31Amps under full load, a CX500 would be sufficient.
Have you monitored your CPU and memory utilisation ?
As suggested before, test the GPU in another computer to see if the behaviour is the same.
Whew, I thought for a second there that my common sense had left me when I saw that 60-Amp-Post ^^
Yes, I monitored CPU and RAM usage, there is no recognizeable pattern to be seen and it almost never happens under full load.
I will see if a friend of mine can test my GPU on his computer, and I will test it underclocked right away.
Though one more question regarding that: Should I only underclock GPU Core Clock or both Core and RAM clock?

  • Stability + boot issue MSI X48C Platinum

    Hi,
I'm using my desktop-pc for quite some time now (since august 2008), but it gave me some problems. One of the last problems was a failing RAID-0 array: one of the Seagate Barracuda's 7200.11 640 GB was failing frequently, while it was already 2x replaced by my supplier for a new product. So I figured RAID-0 simply wasn't possible with these drives, at least not a stabile RAID-0 array, so I switched to a Samsung Spinpoint F3 instead.
To the point: it took a while before I finally had enough time to re-assembly the new system with the new hard drive. I managed to install the hard drive and installed Windows Vista Ultimate on it (this week), but after the first boot it appeared the system hanged entirely while being idle in Windows (no errors, just black screen). Other problems are: system doesn't boot frequently. I tried to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 Professional x84 as well, but while the installation files are loaded I barely get to the selection screen for system language (succeeded one time in this, mostly it hangs after/during the installation files are loaded from the disc). The original installation DVD of Windows Vista also couldn't be booted anymore, is Russian roulette how far I get.
    Symptons are:
-while trying to boot from bootable USB/DVD, screen goes to black, fan of graphics card accelarates and monitor goes to stand-by
-sometimes during boot system fails, after 3 resets motherboard resets itself. This action still doesn't garantue a succesful boot.
-sometimes the system doesn't boot entirely, just a monitor in stand-by (fans are on, graphics card (HD4870) shows 3 red leds as normal for 1 second)
-if the system boots, and I don't load bootable in DVD-station or USB-ports, Windows is just started as normal most of the times. In Windows, I installed all necessary drivers, tested the graphics card with furmark and with the 9.11 drivers: stabile no artifacts. I played C&C Generals / Anno 1404, just to see if the graphics card could take it without artifacts. Both games work fine, however while in Windows the system hangs after some period of time, could be 30 minutes, could be 2 hours.
-added extra cooling fans aimed at motherboard and graphics card with stock cooler on HD4870 on 100%, just to make sure it was not a cooling issue.
    System is:
    processor: Intel E8500 E0
mainboard: MSI X48C (AMI 7.3, supports E0 revision of processor)
    Memory: Corsair Dominator 4GB PC8500
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD4870 512MB (reference)
Hard drive: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB
PSU: Cooler Master Real Power M620 (620 watt)
    case: Cooler Master CM690, with 6 120mm case fans (3x Scythe S-Flex 1900 RPM)
    Question:
What could possible cause all these problems? I first feared it was something with my graphics card as the monitor went to black entirely and to stand-by (no input signals could be detected anymore) and as the fan of the graphics card accelerates as well), but now I've narrowed it down to:
-mainboard (may explain previous problems with the SATA controller as well, with 3 different hard drives now)
-PSU (strange, as it gets through post and does boot occasionaly)
-memory (could be, will verify if the systems does the same with another DDR2 set later this week, but I don't expect this to be the case)
-CPU (how to damage this CPU at stock speeds, with a properly mounted Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and a S-Flex 1200 RPM as cooling)

    Added to signature.
I first used the Power Supply test of OCCT, which puts a 100% on both the processor and graphics card to simulate the toughest conditions for the PSU. It crashed within 5 seconds. So I tested the system with OCCT v3.1.0, using CPU only: OCCT (testing processor at 100% load). Test ran for 60 minutes: not a single error. So with the two tests combined the system crashes, with only the CPU test the system does not. So I switched to the GPU: OCCT test (testing graphics card at 100% load) for one hour: also no problems after 1 hour testing. 12V dropped a bit during these last tests, but within safety limits I reckon:
Later this week I'm propably ordering a Corsair 520 / 620 / 650 watt model, so I can test with a new PSU. Meanwhile I'll see if the system is stable for longer periods of time, I'm currently trying to verify if it was just bad luck the system freezed within 5 seconds the first time, or if it has to do with other things.
    [edit]
Perhaps I should add as well that the environment temperature has been decreased as well here: from 15 degrees Celsius it's not freezing with -4 degrees Celsius outside. Room temperature dropped 5 degrees I guess when I compare the last test circumstances and the current test circumstances. Temperatures of CPU and GPU don't seem to be largely influenced by this, but perhaps the temperatures of the RAM and/or VRM are lower now with other components.
    [edit2]
The CPU and GPU test combined (PSU test) gave an error after 5 minutes now, with every component at stock settings (so also stock fan speeds). Retesting with graphics card fan at 100% now. I noticed that there was some variation on the 12V line during the test (within both marges), but from 11.88 to 12.14 volt.

    Hi there,
Specs: as per Qosmio X 300. SSD 110GB, pentium core 4 extreme, 4 Gb RAM, plenty free storage on SSD (29GB), NVidia drivers with primary being GE Force 9800 M GTS, Direct X10.  there is also a note down the bottom saying that if i have linked graphic cards (whihc i do i believe there are three), that i can expect better perfomrance with some software.
Ok I aplogise from the outset, i am a layman and not that techie. K.  So the issue that I upgraded recently (last week) from vista ultimate 64 bit to windows 7 64 bit. ultimate.  For the main, I am reasonably happy with the outcome in most areas - except gaming that is. I have increased speed and agility and the processor is now rated at 7.2. WEI. overall the laptop is rated at 5.8. however, getting back to teh reason for writing, I have nothing negative to say about windows 7 (as compared to its predecessor) apart from wishing to resolve my game crash issue. which usually occurs about 15 mins - 20 mins into a game and comes in the form of a shutdown ? BSOD from whence the laptop reboots when prompted at on/off and wants to know if to start normally or in various safe modes. I have noticed that the laptop does become very hot at the back (around the fans) prior to teh shutdown, and i am wondering if this is an overheating issue, and how to resolve if this is the case. the only other thing i have noticed that seems untoward is that i have apparently lost a wireless jump start driver from the upgrading process which i cannot find anywherre, and may be totally unrelated to this issue anyway.
All i want to do is play the games i could play on windows vista ultimate 64 bit. these include: Sims 3, sims 3 world adventures, sims 3 ambitions, highloft end stuff, and Bioshock. Oddly enough, i have played sid meyers civillisations revolutions IV (the latest one) with no crashes, and i havent tried ANNO 1404, but fear a similar fate may await this game as some of the others.
    Addditional information:
everything is as i described it above, however the screen does not go blue but black, and the laptop shuts itself down,  laptop acts as if hibernating mode? (these are guesses) or some mechanism geared at preventing over heating - the back becomes very hot.  the machine can be rebooted from normal mode but comes up firstly with a screen suggesting that the laptop was incorrectly shutdown, and offers options as to safe mode, normal etc. i have been starting normally with no adverse effects.   This is scenario one.
scenario two ends up similarly at teh reboot stage, but gets there differently. i play the game and the screen freezes, unable to move touchpad curser, unalbe to use ctrl alt del to get up task manager. end up having to crash to reboot.
I am quite frustrated and very reluctant to mess around with things that i dont understand (dont want to make the problem worse!). I am happy to attemtpt to follow your good explicit advice.
the only other negative thing i am expereinceing is screen flicker on internet. I have changed my power mode from high performance to balanced to try to nullify the overheating issue but i now am noticing this screen flicker which is irriating and appears on keystroke, or cursor movement.
Please note well:  I am a layman, not a technician! Please explain in easy to (dummy) terms! Thanks!
    kind regards

  • Install win 8.1 error looking for disk

I have a new Mac Mini w/ Mavericks OS.  I have been trying to install Win 8.1 for days.  I had a keyboard on order, finally came today to allow me to Recover the Mac from a failed Win 8.1 install.  I have read hundreds of conversations on this topic. And to air one question constantly asked, 'Why! Why is it that there are dozens of different ways people are having to use to install one program? Why?!?'
I am able to get to the page in Windows setup where I am to select the drive called BOOTCAMP.
    I select the drive
    I then FORMAT the drive
Then I am told that drive - or any installation for Windows drive - is NOT found or available.
I've gotten to this screen a dozen times now.
I have arrived there by two methods  1) following the 'book' on Win 8.1 installation via BOOTCAMP  and  2) Once here I shut the machine down and reboot with CTRL-key at restart -> select the WINDOWS drive from those available -> then follow the Windows install panels.  Which, every time leads me right back to this page.
A note about this page.  Every online tutorial, including the one on the Windows site and here on Apple forums, shows a DIFFERENT layout of the page. The tutorials show a page with a link to click for Advanced settings.  My window just shows those Advanced settings.  I don't see how this makes the process work or not, but that's a peculiarity of my setup woes compared to the instructions that exist.
NOW .. HOW in the name of all that is sensible!! -- do I get from the page where I select the partition I need to install Win 8.1 on..?
Again ..PLEASE!!! DO NOT retroute me through all the old settings everyone has been hashing about since September 2013.  I need to know What Works NOW - January 2014- to get Windows 8.1, installed and working on my Mac Mini running latest version of Mavericks.
    Thank you ... I HOPE!

Windows 8.1 is not yet officially supported in Bootcamp. There is no way to know when it will be supported.
Having said that some systems will install it and it runs fine, though these systems appear to be few and far between.
The only advice I can give is to try some of the workarounds available on various sites or wait until it is supported by Bootcamp.

  • Running Dual boot windows 8 and win 7 pro with xp mode installed!! I love it!!

It took over 2 days to figure out how to adjust the bios to get my win 7 pro DVD to boot and install dual boot on this GREAT MACHINE!!
Step 1: using diskmgmt.msc you have to shring the C partition. I shrunk it so I had 80GB remaining as unallocated space.
Step 2: You have to enter the machine Bios adn set the BIOS to Both and UEFI as first
Step 3: Connect your usb dvd
Step 4: Put your win 7 pro dvd in the usb dvd drive
Step 5: Reboot your machine and when it starts press F12 to get the boot menu and select the usb dvd drive then press enter
    The machine restarts
Message on screen says press a key to boot from cd/dvd
Press space and it boots up the win 7 pro DVD
After files copy and load the setup screen asks to accept the agreement and where to install win 7
BE SURE TO SELECT THE 80GB location
Then follow thru the win 7 prompts to load it.
When the machine restarts you will see a dual boot screen with Windows 7 on top as first selection and Windows 8 below it as 2nd selection.
Make sure to hit enter with windows 7 selected
    The win 7 installation completes.
You will see many items with drivers not installed dont fret.
You can load most of the drivers by highlighting the device in control panel/device manager and pick update driver then select BROWSE for DRIVER and be sure to put in drive D:\ which is now the windows 8 drive and hit search.
Many of the windows 8 drivers installed with no issue.
The Realtek driver was an exception .. goto to the lenovo site and pick the x100e tablet and download the LAN driver from there  about (4MB). Copy it to flash drive and install it in win 7 from the .exe file. The driver for LAN will install sucessfully. The version of the driver is 7.46 something the 7.11 versions do not workl.
I have only 3 drivers that I could not find - 2 list as unknown and are related to ACPI or power management and 1 lists as USB controller but all the USB stuff works without it.
Be sure to either shutdown the system or sign out of win 8 when your done so you get the dual boot menu. If you shutdown while logged into win 8 the next time you start up it will go right to win 8 until you signout and restart.
Just to let you know an easy way to shutdown is go to the desktop and press ALT + FN + F4 and a shutdown menu comes up on the desktop.
Once win 7 pro is installed you can download the XP mode free from Microsoft and install it.
This is of course AFTER you have ACTIVATED WINDOWS 7 ONLINE with YOUR ACTIVATION KEY(you supply).
ENJOY! This is the BEST machine I ever had!

It's been many, many years since I don't do dual boot anymore. Don't find the reason to do it, either. Different kinds of virtualization should be enough. Anyway...

  • Can a Mac and a Win share the same music library on an external?

I have a Powerbook, my wife a Toshiba laptop, both are authorized under my account. She's relatively new to iTunes and ipod so she has a small library on her Win machine. My Itunes library has grown so large I'm about to move it to an external drive. I'd like her to be able to access that library to load her ipod.
Is it a matter of formatting the external the correct way?

    Interesting question!
I think the answer is FAT32, but I'd rather you tried NTFS first.

  • TS1363 I was upgrading iPhone OS from 5.1 to 5.1.1 on Win 7 using iTunes 10.6.1.7.  The iPhone hung.  It is no longer visible by iTunes on Win 7

While upgrading iPhone OS from 5.1 to 5.1.1 on Win 7 using iTunes 10.6.1.7, the iPhone hung.  I could not get iTunes to find it and Win 7 does not see it.
When I connect the iPhone to the USB, Win 7 issues the welcome sound, but that is it.  The same happens when I disconnect iPhone.
The Devise Manager has the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver correct without any problem.  I updated this driver called usbaapl64.
    The iPhone is still hung.
    I restarted the iPod service
I restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service
I tried to empty and delete the temp directory in C:\users\myname\AppData\Local\ but could not
The iTunes I am using is the latest version
I updated the Apple Mobile Device Driver as stated above correctly
The iPhone is still hung and is not recognized by Win 7 or iTunes, so I cannot restore the OS to the previous working version
What else can I do to restore the previous working OS on my iPhone 4

I was connecting the iPhone 4 to a USB 3.0 port.  I was told by Apple Express Support (at US$29.99) not to use USB 3.0 and to use USB 2.1 instead.
If you are connecting your iPhone to the computer using a USB 3.0 port, disconnect it immediately.  iPhones will lock up if you try to update while  using a connection through a USB 3.0 port.
Disconnect the iPhone from the computer
Go to Device Manager and find the connected USB port.  Click the mouse right button and update the driver
Shut the iPhone by pressing the sleep button and the home button concurrently for some time
Move the USB cable to a USB 2.1 port or older without the iPhone.
    Restart iTunes.
    Connect the iPhone
Your computer should recognize the phone and reloads the correct USB 2.1 driver (Apple Mobile Device)
Then iTunes should recognize the iPhone and starts reloading the firmware.
When that is complete it may ask if you wish to restore, naturally you say YES
    iTunes will restore the iOS
Using iTunes, restore the latest backup to get your data back.
When all of the above is completed.  Start enjoying your iPhone.
If the above does not work.  Throw your iPhone out of the window and get a replacement Android phone.

  • Windows Easy transfer , ERROR message when trying to copy settings to Win 8 PC

    I have a new hp-TouchSmart Envy 23. It has 2TB drive.
I want to use Windows Easy Transfer to move all my settings and data from the Windows 7 machine to the new hp-TouchSmart (my older PC is hp desktop is model # m9177c and has Win 7 OS)  .
I have used easy transfer many times and I am reasonably experienced user .
I just cannot transfer my settings and data to my new PC. I have therefore copies all my data to the hp-TouchSmart . However I need to use Windows easy transfer to move all my settings. I have a very large number of settings , macros and much else that would take a very large amount of time to re-type.
I get an ERROR message when I want to transfer my settings. It says I don’t have enough disk space. The file I want to transfer is only 10.5 GB (after I removed all my data). The new machine has 2TB and yet I keep getting this error.
I have tried every possible way of transferring the settings , including : external drive; flash drive; direct wire ; easy transfer cable etc. I keep getting the same ERR message .
I am sure Easy transfer must allow transfer from Win 7 to Win 8. BUT HOW?
PLEASE do help. I would really appreciate very much .
    THANK YOU
    Adam

    This thread may be useful.
Windows Easy Transfer will transfer from one drive to the other to mirror the original drive.  What I suspect is happening is that the program is grabbing the D drive (recovery partition on most systems) and trying to transfer it to the new system which should also have a D drive.  If that is happening,t hen that error will be thrown.
Try using the advanced options and view the report to see what exactly is happening and triggering the message.
    Let me know what happens.
The document in the thread is for a previous version of Windows, but you can search for Easy Transfer Reports from the Start screen in Windows 8.

  • Wireless printing problem with hp officejet 100 mobile printer from win 7 dell laptop

My hp officejet 100 mobile printer was working fine with my dell XPS 15 in bluetooth wirelessly until my laptop crashed. Now I can not get it to print internet info except with hard wire connection. Page loads half way and then stops. Must shut down laptop and shut off printer or hard wire and shut off bluetooth. down loaded lastest drivers to no avail. printer will print from cell phone and win 8 computer via bluetooth but not win 7 laptop.

Sorry you are having problems with printing from the internet.  I have a few more questions to ask you before I can be of much assistance.
    What web-browser are you using?
Do you have any problems printing from Word or other non-internet documents?
What did you do to fix your computer (system restore, clean install of the OS, etc)?
Have you tried an alternate web-browser?
Make sure to install all of your Microsoft updates to see if that helps.  Otherwise, answer those questions for me please and I will be happy to help.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

  • Update frome win8 to win 8.1 error oxc1900101 - ox30018

I have purchased at Toshiba laptop including win8.
After release, I installed win 8.1 easily, following common procedure. It worked perfectly and I was quite happy with it.
Due to some hardware issues, I turned the laptop in for repair.
The motherboard was replaced with a new one, and win 8 was reinstalled when I got the laptop back.
Obviously, I wanted to update to 8.1 once again.
This is where all my problems started.
Apparently the update is being installed, but at 95% of the install process done, it stops and reinstall win8 again.
The error codes oxc1900101 - ox30018 are displayed on the screen.
I have now spent months reading on that same problem online, and tried a lot the proposed solution, but with no luck.
I found many many people who had trouble updating, so clearly, there IS a problem with win 8.1
I have called Microsoft support, who said that Toshiba was responsible.
    Toshiba says to contact Microsoft...
Microsoft wants me to pay 99$ for support, so they will fix it.
But it is supposed to be a FREE and very easy update - why would I pay for that?
I have tried to update drivers, clean start, reinstalled win8 a lot of times, uninstalled anti virus and anti malware, went into bios and disabled usb3, used lan cable instead of wi-fi and many more things, but the same error code still appears every time.
I really hope someone can help me - PLEASE PLEASE!
I don't think it is fair, that I have to buy a new license for win8.1

    H Dennis,
When you roll back to the Windows 8, did it work fine? Was it activated? OEM's license is binding with motherboard.
If you change motherboard, it will not be activated.
Please contact Toshiba to activate it. Then try to upgrade.
The most cause is the hardware compatibility. This guide will be help you check if your computer meet its requirement:

  • Satellite Z930-14F - cannot install Win 8.1 from SCCM 2012 R2 environment

    Dear all,
Sattelite Z series laptops cannot install OS (win 8.1) from our SCCM 2012 R2 environment.
Either no installation is starting, or pxe boot aborted error is showed.
The environment is used to successfully install OS (win 8.1) on different other vendor computers (dell) and virtual machines (hyper-v and vmware).
I've tried both UEFI and CMS boot options and tried to switch off the secure boot. Please advice.
Also, i've read about the "SCCM installation package for Toshiba". Will it help in my situation or is it just driver packages for SCCM?
    Best Regards, Evgeny.

I guess you are speaking about this Toshiba package:
    http://www.toshiba.eu/services/on-demand/business-computing/sdp120gs-v/
I dont have much experience using such SCCM drive package but it definitely compatible with the Toshiba business notebooks. The Satellite / Portege Z930 belong to the business range and I think the package should be compatible.
This package seems to be for all IT administrators who manage devices on the corporate network with SCCM 2012 R2. Toshiba offers with the new Toshiba SCCM package a solution to integrate other notebook into an existing IT infrastructure quickly and smoothly and all Toshiba Driver and application packages and a demonstration task sequence are integrated.
However, it seems that you could get more details about this package directly from Toshiba [email protected]
By the way: The Win 8.1 installation requires the UEFI mode (in case the UEFI BIOS is available). But booting from another, external source requires the disabled secure boot option.
So maybe you should use the UEFI mode but should disable the secure boot option in order to boot from LAN.
