Annotated highlights in Preview 5.0.1

Most of my school notes are in pdf format, and I use preview annotations a lot during classes to add my own notes, but for some reason, since I installed Snow Leopard and Preview 5.0.1 the highlight annotation isn't working properly. Every time I try to highlight, instead of the perfectly highlighted text I used to get, I get strange curved highlights that are often much too large or too small for what I'm trying to highlight. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone help me fix it?

I'm very interested in this as well. Is there maybe another place in this forums where we could get an answer?

  • How to remove or edit PDF highlights in PREVIEW

    Hello;
when viewing PDF in Preview, you can add some marks and make annotations; but after highlighting or underlining some text, I cannot change or remove highlights anymore. Is this a bug, or is there anything special I should do?

It's a ridiculous piece of interface nonsense, but the way to remove the highlights is to open the sidebar, select Annotations from the pop-up menu at the bottom of the sidebar to get the list of annotations (and highlights) in the document.
Select the annotation/highlight in the sidebar (it'll have the page number next to it, and selecting it sends you to that page, too) and you'll find that the annotation itself, or in this case the highlight, is selected, and pressing Delete gets rid of it.

  • Annotated PDF from Preview will not display annotations in iPad mail

I have an Annotated PDF from Preview will not display annotations in iPad mail, yet, it will display them on my Macbook Air. I confirmed this with another iPad user. Same results. Any ideas.

I had the same issue. iAnnotate PDF will display your annotations made in preview and allow you to annotate on the iPad. It is a great app, I and quite happy with it.

  • I can't find the Signature option in the Annotations menu in Preview

I am trying to add a digital signature that I have already created to a PDF file but there is no Signature option showing up in the Annotations menu in Preview. The document I am trying to add the signature to is definitely a PDF but there is still no signature option showing up. Please help!!!

    HI,
    I had the same issue,
You need to convert documents to PDF first (Files, export as PDF)
And then you will have the option!
    Kind regards.

  • Changing Default Annotations Font in Preview

Is there a way to change the default annotations font in the preview app for Mountain Lion?  I'm using the annotations feature to take notes on class assignments, however, I don't like the default "noteworthy" font.  I've tried to change it by selecting Tools > Show fonts.  However, when I highlight the annotations I've taken, then try to select a different font, it only closes my annotations note without changing the font.
Along the same lines, is it possible to have rich text formatting while using preview's annotations feature?
    Thanks in advance,
    AH

    Hello Experts,
Pleasure to meet you all through this forum. This is my first reply to a question.
Mr. Chuan Lee, try the following and let me know if it works to your issue.
    1. Choose the document that you would print and choose the PLD icon.
2.Click the field on the Print Layout Design on the left and then check the Font and Size in the Format Tab of the Properties window on to your right below field Index window.
    3. If it is differing from what you are expecting, change and font and size and save the changes.
    4. Check the box " Block Overall Font Change" below the Font&Size property fields.
    5. Save your preferences.
    I think it should work.
Experts correct me if i am wrong. Appreciate me if I am right.
    All the best Chuan lee.

  • Possible to search annotation notes in Preview?

I have several marked up PDFs — sections are highlighted with annotated notes — and I would like to be able to search within the notes (not the actual text of the PDF) using Preview. Is this possible? I can't seem to get it to work.
Most of my PDFs were marked up using iAnnotate for the iPad. But I have also marked up some using Preview itself and still can't search the notes.
    Am I missing something?
If not possible with Preview, is there other desktop software that would allow for this functionality?

    In addition to ronnie:
The Cmd F function DOES work in the browser when the triangles that ronnie mentioned are folded open (pointing down; showing you all the markers). When the triangles are closed (pointing to the right; not showing markers) then CMD-F does not find your markers indeed...

  • How do I change the highlight in Preview "search" function?

I find Preview is a great app for reading PDF documents, I prefer it to Adobe Acrobat most of the time. It also has a useful and fast Search, but .... the highlighting of found Search items in the document is USELESS!!! It is pale grey, which - when most documents are black text on white background, and with a lot of text crammed on a page - is almost impossible to see!
I have tried Preview Preferences. I have tried System Preferences (but Preview, sadly, doesn't use SysPrefs highlight colour). How can I change the Preview highlight colour so that Search becomes a useful function instead of causing me eyestrain?

Thank you for the quick reply, however, if I understand correctly your link is helpful for Character Fill Color, not highlights.
Please find the quote below in this link:

"Note:   Text that you highlight by adding a color behind it (in the Format inspector) isn’t tracked in the review toolbar."

  • How can I change annotation font in Preview?

    Hi,
To view PDF text files, I am using Preview, which seems to me far better than Adobe Pro.
The only problem I have with Preview is the font size in "note" option in annotation function.
It is just too small for me. Is there any way that I can change the font size in "note"?
I know I can change font size in "text" option, but I almost gave up how to do in 'note' after searching the web for months.
    Help me plzzzzz...

This is a very old thread, but in case you stumble across this thread wondering how to change annotation or cursor fonts, it is possible.

  • Annotations made in Preview to PDFs created from MS Word corrupts PDF

In Preview, when I save annotations to PDFs created from an MS Word document, the PDF seems to be corrupted. Searching in the PDF no longer shows any results, and text copied from the PDF is displayed as a series of meaningless characters when pasted into a note annotation, or pasted into another file (e.g. a TextEdit file). So for example, "the monitoring of progress" becomes ")@%8,1),&12%,=%4&,2&//" when copied and pasted.
Is there any way to prevent PDFs from being corrupted in this way, or to restore the PDF so that searching and copying work correctly?

I suspect this is a problem with M$ failing to handle PDF files correctly. I would suggest you ask your question over on the M$ forums instead of here.

  • Annotating pdfs in preview

As a PhD student, I annotate a lot of pdfs for school.
Preview annoys me a little in that there isn't a straightforward way to alter the size of the annotation tool text, but I managed to get around this using the terminal. Also, the circle annotation tool is so thick and clumsy to operate that it is virtually unusable. Apple really should revise this hopeless situation.
But, another issue with Preview annotation is driving me crazy:
As I annotate, I like to save my progress occasionally - but when I do so, after the little progress bar finishes moving, indicating that the annotation has been saved, the pdf automatically skips back to the beginning, meaning I have to manually hunt for the page I was on if I forgot to make a note of it before saving. This is terribly inconvenient.
Can someone suggest a fix? Or at least give me hope that Leopard introduces improvements to these aspects of Preview? I am still waiting to upgrade!

Edit: the RAM used by preview grow every time I save the modification to the pdf.

  • Why does the text in text boxes go invisible when annotating PDFs in preview?

If I hover my mouse over where the text box is, the little yellow box that tells you what text is there comes up and shows what the box is supposed to say, but the text is invisible. If I double click the area where the text is supposed to be, it highlights and makes the text visible again. Its not that the text is white, because if i drag it over a dark area, it still doesn't show up. This happens when I open it up again after annotating and saving/closing it. I attached pictures of my cursor hovering over the invisible text box, and one of it hovering over an unaffected text box, for comparison. This has happened to me before. What is happening and how do i stop it?

    david302 wrote:
But, about half the time, when i am finished typing and click out of the box, back to view the result, the text does not appear. If i go back to Edit Content within the box, it is there, but disappears when i exit the box. It does not print when i print a test sheet.
The fact that 'about half the time' you are seeing this issue and presumably not the other part of the time, I would suggest trying to run the 'Repair Database' option in the First Aid dialog:
Quit Aperture > press and hold Option + Command keys while launching Aperture > select and run the 'Repair Database' option.
    Post back as needed.

  • How do I change the annotation font in Preview?

So I'm not fond of the default font used in the annotation sticky in the new Preview.app.  However, the Font menu seems to be disconnected from the sticky - in that if I select the Font inspector, it unselects the sticky so the changes do not apply to it.
How can I change this?  And while I'm at it, any way to get the timestamping feature turned back on for the sticky note? It helps to see when I wrote the sticky...  Thanks.

Delete the font, wont change size but the tpye.  https://discussions.apple.com/message/20064773#20064773

  • After Annotation PDF on Preview, lost search function and some words are replaced by weird characters

    This is the original
The next one is what it look after I highlighted few sentences.
Apparrently, the search function lost as well

I am not familiar with Skim, but I use Adobe Reader all the time and it is quite fast on my Mac mini. Perhaps not as fast as Preview but still quite acceptable. If it is running that slow on your Mac I would suspect either you are low on RAM or perhaps the file you are reading is ill-formed. Are these problems occurring on more than one PDF from more than one original source? Do all PDFs scroll slowly or just some?

  • How to read PDFs with annotations made by Preview on Mac?

I use Preview to make annotations on PDFs, but I found that those annotations couldn't be displayed in iBooks or Goodreader on my iPad.
    Any solution for this?

I use iAnnotate PDF; im not sure if it will read your preview annotations so you may need to do a little research.
