Annotation tool disabled in online review

Hi,
We have a rather old online review system which still uses Adobe Live Cycle Reader Extensions 7.0. We can still use annotations with Adobe Reader up to version X, but starting with version XI, the annotation tools appear disabled:
It might be a backwards compatibility issue, but is there a know fix or workaround?
Thanks!
R.

I would guess that this is an IAC/OLE limitation.  When you embed an application within the browser host control end up with a representation of the application that is usually not as fully featured as the standalone application.

  • How can I disable all online functionality within FormsCentral using Adobe Acrobat Customization?

    I would like to either install FormsCentral and have all online functionality disabled, or install FormsCentral but have it disabled until a users requests it (an admin could come and enable it through Options).  When I disable all online services from within Adobe Customization Wizard XI it does not remove the online functionality within FormsCentral.
    Thanks for the help!

    You are correct in that it's not functioning, however I do not have that option under the "online and adobe online" section in Adobe Customization Wizard XI.  I have the following boxes that can be checked:
    "Disable initiating shared reviews and data collection via distributed forms using Adobe online services (does not affect non Adobe online services reviews and forms).
    "Disable the Tools pane in Reader"
    "Disable file storage on Adobe online services"
    "Enable file storage even when all other services are disabled"

  • Cannot Enable Commenting/Annotations Tools

    I want to enable the use of Commenting/Annotations tools in Reader by setting up a shared review via Acrobat 10 Standard.  From what I've read it seems that I should be able to do this by simply using the Shared Review wizard, however the PDF it generates only has the Sticky and Highlighter tools available in Reader.
    I've read many different discussions on this issue, which tend to say things like "well you have to enable commenting through Acrobat"... and I get that, but my quesiton is how to do so.  I've also seen step by step instructions such as "go to 'File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Commenting and Mesuring'..." which I've attempted but I only have 'F > SA > REPDF > Enable Forms Fill-In & Save in Reader' as an option.
    Perhaps this has something to do with Acrobat 10 Standard (i.e. not Pro)?
    So please contribute an answer if you know the solution to my problem
    Thank You!

    In Adobe v.7.1.0, Standard Version, the Comments menu does not have the
    "Enable for Commenting" option.
    Please see attached.
    Is it only in Adobe Acrobat, v.8.0, that the Enable for Commenting
    option exists to allow your reviewers who only have Reader to add
    comments to the PDF document that you distribute?

  • Certain drawing or annotation tools cause adobe to crash - what can I do to fix this?

    When I try to use certain drawing or annotation tools Adobe crashes. Why? What  can I do to fix this?

    I think it is Adobe Reader XI and I have Windows 8. It has happened with a couple different PDF files. I have experienced the problem when trying to use the "draw a circle" tool as well as the "add text callout" - I have drawn some circles without a problem. Sometimes what happens is I try to draw the circle (or the other one), and nothing happens, it is as if the page doesn't realize I clicked or dragged the mouse. Then when I try clicking somewhere else in Adobe Reader it is frozen/"not responding" and I have to force close the program. When I open it again it tries to restore the changes that I had made since the last time I saved but it doesn't always recover it. I have not tried the repair option - what is that?

  • Replies to comments not stored during online review

    Hi @ all,
    we are using Adobe Acrobat X for online Reviews.
    Some users told us, that the comments are stored correctly and permanently but when a user put some replies to exisiting comments they sometime will not be stored and get lost.
    Is this behavior maybe a known issue for specific Acrobat X versions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andreas

    Hi,
    If my URL address changes, comments lose them, is it possible to edit the XML file so that comments are now incorporated from the new server?

  • Reader XI annotations tool issue

    I am running windows 8.1 on a laptop (not touch) and adobe reader XI(11.0.05). I have tried reinstalling adobe.
    When I use the annotations tool to leave comments it causes an unreasonable slow down of the program, and has on many occassions crashed it. My CPU usage never exceeds 40% so it shouldn't be a hardware issue.
    Is this a known issue and how do I go about fixing it?
    Thank you!

    I do not know where i can view the annotataions i made on my android tablet to a .pdf. I see that there are other files related to the .pdf I was annotating, and i moved them all to my notebook computer, but so far i can't open a .pdf with the annotations on it, in windows (7). what's the application to use, to view all the work i did making the annotations, except on the original android tablet?? very frustrating.

  • Annotation Tool only accepts MOV in Final Cut Server 1.5

    Just a warning to anyone else bitten by this one...
    We used a custom proxy format of MP4. This worked just fine in FCSvr 1.1.1 in all aspects, including the annotation tool.
    Now with FCSvr 1.5, only MOV is accepted in the annotation tool. For us this is bad, we have a lot of proxies to re-generate. Hopefully I'm one of the few.

    From my findings, the annotation window in FCSvr 1.5 only support using Clip Proxies that are
    1. Encoded using H.264
    2, Wrapped in a .mov file container
    3. Contain a time code track
    All the above ensures that annotations are accurately matched to the source assets time code. This is pertinent because annotations and be exported via WriteXML and imported via ReadXML.

  • Gradient annotator tool missing in illustrator cc 2014

    I have a gradient on a rectangle, it's not in a group and my options show "hide annotator tool", so I know it should be showing, but it's not there! I've tried turning off GPU rendering and I still don't see it, does anyone know what's going on?

    Never mind.  I finally just closed Illustrator and opened it back up, and TA-DA! It's back...just more weirdness from an Adobe product...I should have guessed so.

    How to Disable the Add & Review Button
     *Updated with the correct ISF  code (the previous code, in case you saved it, was to actually  escape apostrophes.  That will be posted  seperately.
    Note that this solution might not work in your environment - you might have to modify it based on your installation.
    Enjoy!
    Common_disableAddAndReviewButton()
       if ( Moment == 'ordering' )
            var theForm = document.forms[0];
            var buttonCt = 0;
            for( i = 0; i < theForm.elements.length; i++ )
                 if( theForm.elements[i].type == "submit" )
                    if ( buttonCt == 0 || buttonCt == 2 )

                         theForm.elements[i].style.visibility="hidden";

    This is GREAT - I added a new Java Script and set it to "when form is loaded" and when I did some test reqs - no Add & Review button !!!!

  • Annotation tools not activated

    I have a PDF created by Word 2007.  It is unsecured and comments are allowed.  BUt when I open it in either Reader X or XI my annotation tools (stick notes, highlighting, etc.) are not activated or available.  Thoughts?

    If I understand you correctly, this happens for all PDF files that were created with Word 2007.
    Does it also happen for files that were created differently, e.g. http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/adobe_reader_reference.pdf ?
    If not, can you share any of your files on https://files.acrobat.com/ ?

  • MSI installation, how to disable the online functions (like Cloud and login)?

    How can I disable the online functions which need a login with the adobe id? I want to do this while I install the Adobe Reader DC with the MSI installer.

    Hi Yannic,
    I can understand your concern, however Document Cloud is a core part of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and Adobe Acrobat DC so it cannot be disabled. If you don't want to use this feature then you don't need to sign in.
    If you really feel that this does not suites your requirement then you can uninstall it & re-install Adobe Reader 11 Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions.
    Let me know if you have any further queries.
    Regards,
    Aadesh

  • PDF Annotation tools in a tablet app

    I want to convert a Powerpoint presentation into a PDF and then publish this using DPS and then have the normal PDF annotation tools available in the app. Can anybody help please and explain how we can do this?

    First, for converting powerpoint to pdf document, you need a mature ppt to pdf file converting tool, after being converted into pdf document, a pdf annotation application is necessary for adding and drawing annotation object to pdf page. These are the complete steps.

  • Is Dreamweaver the best tool for creating a review site with user ratings/reviews? CMS?

    Hello everyone,
    I am really wanting to develop an online gaming review website and have some Dreamweaver/Wordpress/CMS questions i am hoping you can all help me with, thank you in advance for your patience as i am new to site development.
    I am thinking of creating a review site which will involve me writing about 100 online gaming reviews, and then getting users to upload their comments/feedback, etc. Each of the reviews would be updated monthly with stats, performance, and other details. Each review would contain a text review, video review, and various images and screenshots. Integrating user-generated content will be a big factor.
    I am trying to de-confuse myself with all the prep work around making sure i have the right tools and technology i need to be successful. Many people tell me i should use Wordpress due to the nature of my site, or at least a combination of Wordpress and Dreamweaver - not sure how that would work exactly. I dont want to be too dependant on just Wordpress because i want to be sure my site can be customized and i grow and enable more advanted value for my site visitors. ...i would love to have a members only area at some point in the near future.
    Please see below for some questions running through my head:
    1. Do i need a seperate CMS tool? ...and which may be best considering the nature of my site?
    2. Should i use Wordpress instead? ...or a combination of Wordpress and Dreamweaver? - why should i use a combination of the two?
    3. SEO is a major factor - does that make a difference?
    4. My reviews will need to be updated monthly, so i will try to maximize the use of templates, etc. Do i need to create a dynamic site in Dreamweaver or will a CMS manage that?
    5. Which options are best to avoid as much as manual coding as possible
    Thank for you taking the time to read this, ...any tips/guideance would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Harps

    Short answer: You don't need Dreamweaver.  Simply install WordPress on your server and use it to build your site & add/edit content.
