Annotations (comments) in OBIEE 11g

Hi All,
OBIEE 11g offers annotation functionality which allows users to add comments to KPIs, objectives and initiatives in a Scorecard. I wanted to know if such feature is available for 'Analyisis' as well? Or in other words, can users add comments to the reports they make or view?

My client is looking for a functionality that can help their users post comments on the reports (basically a discussion forum kind of an environment). The intent is to promote collaborative decision making. I see that 'annotations' in scorecards come really close to it. So are you suggesting that 'annotations' are limited only to scorecards? I would have loved to see this feature in Reports as well.

I have done a simple installation of OBIEE 11G on my coloud server with OS windows server 2003, SP2 , 32 bit.
Installation is 88% completed with,
Executing : opmnctl start coreapplication_obiccs1 and Executing: opmnctl start coreapplication_obips1 failed. Came to know that this is related to clusters and ignored the error.
RCU is installed in different database server.
Now i am trying to login to presentation services with weblogic as userid and password that i had given during installation of obi.
I am getting error that userid or password is invalid...
One thing i came to know from the thread OBIEE 11g Cluster Controller Failed to start is,
i have a bad IP in /etc/hosts... below are the entries in the file... can anyone please tell me what necessary changes i should do?

OBIEE 11g: How to send email from Analysis (via Action Framework)

Hi,
I have installed OBIEE 11g SampleAppLite in my POC box.
One of the features I want to have is to allow users to send their feedback (email) about a report to the report owner. Can this be done without launching Outlook? I tried to Invoke a Browser Script and found that I can display a form showing Recipient, Subject and Message text fields, but I do not know how to send the email.

Login Problem in OBIEE 11g.

Hi Experts,
I installed OBIEE 11g on XP. Did started BI Services and OBIEE Presentation Services login page appears and entered userid and password. It gives following error.
Unable to Sign In
An error occurred during authentication. Try again later or contact your system administrator.
Did any one got this error?? Please help me out at this point thanks..........

The GUID of user 'weblogic' does not match user reference GUID at the repository. Please ask the administrator to delete the old user reference at the repository and login again
In order to fix it I had to follow the steps to “Refresh Global Unique Identifiers (GUIDs)” from Fusion Middleware Administrator Guide. The version I am using is 11.1.1.6. The steps is slightly different for each version of OBIEE.
For 11.1.1.6, the steps to be followed are
1. Edit NQConfig.INI and change setting FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS = NO to YES.
2. Edit instanceconfig.xml to enable GUID refresh on restart.

Comment out the line and add an extra line as follows:
UpdateAndExit
3. Use opmnctl to restart the process using stopall and startall
4. After restart, revert the changes. Set FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS to YES.

5. Restart the services again.
After the above steps, we were able to login successfully.

Web services in OBIEE 11g

I have few Questions on webservices usage in OBIEE 11g(11.1.1.7.0).
Can we use/invoke the web service in OBIEE 11g?If yes,please provide me details.
If we install OBIEE 11g ,can we get the BI publisher as free product or do i need to configure anything?
Can i use the Webservices with BI publisher?If yes,then what is the difference between OBIEE 11g usage and BI publisher usage?

Error RCU-6083 during RCU installation prior to OBIEE 11g on Solaris

Hello,
I have an application server where I have an Oracle Database EE 11g running on Solaris 10 upgrade 9.
The server has the following characteristics:
- SUN V440
- RAM 16GB
- 2 processors Ultra Sparc III, 1.5GHz
- OS: Solaris version 10
- Disk space: 500GB
- Oracle Weblogic Server 11g (10.3)
- Ethernet 1 Gpbs
I want to install the RCU schemas and OBIEE 11g (11.1.1.5.0) on this server so I verified all the pre-requisites for RCU and OBIEE and are OK.
I am using the Repository Creation Utility (11.1.1.5.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit) to install the RCU because although the database is running on Solaris, the installer is not working through that server so I have a PC connected to the network and through that PC that has windows7 i could run the installer and connect to the db, using the SYSTEM user (because when i select sys as sysdba, although the password is correct, it doesn't connect to the db).
However, the installer is sending the ERROR: RCU-6083 regarding the pre-requisites for the BIPLATFORM.
I already use the following command alter system set processes=500 and restarted the db services, however the wizard installer is still sendig that error.
What can be done to succesfully install the RCU?

OBIEE 11g ODBC connectivity error

I am getting the following error when I tried to access a simple query through Answers.

What I did was
1. Create a DSN 'orcl', 32 bit Oracle ODBC driver. Tested and worked against the Oracle database.
2. Import metadata using Local, ODBC 3.5 and DSN = orcl
3. Build a simple BMM and subject area
4. In the phyiscal layer, right click on a table, and select view data/update row count. Error with message "The connection has failed"
5. Hoping for the best, create a simple query in answer and got the above odbc driver error in results tab.
Interestingly, if I edit the connection pool and use OCI (my SID is also orcl), then everything works fine.
I'm new to OBIEE and hope someone can tell me if I have missed a step or make any mistakes!

I am able to connect SQL Server database with OBIEE 11g RPD offline and imported metadata and verified update row count/view data but when i was trying to publish the same RPD the data is not returning also "update row count/view data" is giving and error "The connection has failed."

Environment:
OBIEE 11g/WLS 10.3.3/Oracle database 11g installed on RHL 5
Client tools are installed on local Vista 32 bit system.
Oracle database is working fin, where as SQL Server is giving issues.
You want me to create a ODBC connection in RHL 5 server to connect to SQL Server ? i am little bit confused here how to create !
same time i have created ODBC for oracle apps database and imported and able to view data in RPD when i am in Online mode.
When i open RPD in online mode and trying to import the data i dont have access to local machine ODBC's which is expected and if i change to "Remote Server" nothing is showing here.

I have a problem using the Obiee 11g 11.1.1.6.0

I have installed the Oracle BI EE suite 11.1.1.6.0. in Win Xp (32bit). And I couldn't view the 'analytic' from the browser an error " Error 404: not found" and sometimes "500 : Internal server error". And I tried to restart the BI services, checked through the console and em as well. I want to whether (11.1.1.6.0) is compatible to run in the xp are is there any prerequisites to be taken care of (or) do I have to rectify any of the installation errors if any. Thank you, Kindly leave your suggestions/comments.

As specified in my last reply too, here are the answers for your issues

Yes, if you try to access analytics on port 9704, it will error out. This is because from 11.1.1.5 onwards, simple install of OBIEE has only one weblogic server on 7001. So you must try the url http://IP:7001/analytics. If you have been trying this already, just check if there are any connectivity issues to the server or firewall etc
2)And when I start the BI services, there only one cmd prompt pop up other than Start BI window.
Yes, since there is only one weblogic server there will be only one command prompt.
You could try accessing all the analytics on 7001 port and see. I think your .6 is perfectly working fine and you do not need to get back to .5

OBIEE 11G error while installation at the configuration setting(ASinstance)

Hi Experts,
I am trying to Install OBIEE 11G on Windows on Local PC.But getting the following error .
"Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space" at the configuration step of ASinstance.
I have set the virtual memory to maximum.Machine's RAM is 2 GB and Virtual memory is 4 GB which meeets system requirement for OBI.
I have treid few options but nothing seems to workout :( . and even Downloaded and tried to Install the software again.
Any help on this highly appreciated.

I checked FMW_SECURITY_SERVICE_URL parameter in the NQSConfig.ini file.
This parameter is using VIP (admin server listen to this) and not the actual IP of the server.
Should I change this URL and point it to actual IP.
What is the procedure to change this parameter using EM?

Help Me: Issue with "Unable to Sign In" Analytics Of OBIEE 11g

I have Installed OBIEE 11g in Windows Server 2008-64 bit.I have installed through "Software Only" and ran the "Config Script".
while I was running "Config Script" , One Component was failed i.e "Executing : opmnctl start coreapplication_obips1 -----> Failed".
I just ignored that one and continue the installation.All were successfully created expect that "obips1".
Used Requirements for OBIEE11g:
Oracle 11.2.0,jdk-6u24-windows-x64,wls1033_generic,ofm_rcu_win32_11.1.1.3.3_disk1_1of1(RCU),OBIEE 11g 11.1.1.3.0.
All servers are up(NodeManager,WebLogic,BIServices,opmnctl) and the status of "opmnctl" also shows are are "Alive".
But here the problem is I am unable to login "Analytics" and even I am able to login "Console" and "EM".
I am getting an Error while I was logging to the Analytics i.e "An error occurred during authentication. Try again later or contact your system administrator".
can any one help out how to fix the problem to Login Analytics successfully .
and suggest me that need to add any patches or other ways to fix the problem.

Can you check to see if you are able to login to Admin tool using the sampleliteapp Repository? Try the below solutions. If your not able to login to Admintool also, then solution 2 is more likely to fix the problem
Solution 1: (Restart BI services )
Try to restart all the BI Services.
1. Go to EM
2. Click on Business Intelligence to expand it
3. Click on Coreapplication, then Capacity Management tab
4. Click Restart All
5. Once all the compnents are restarted, the logon is enabled using the new port number being set.
Solution 2: ( Refreshing GUID's)
Open the NQSConfig.INI file for editing. For more information, see "Where are Configuration Files Located?" in Oracle Fusion Middleware System Administrator's Guide for Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition.
Locate the setting FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS = NO and change its value to YES.
Modify the instanceconfig.xml file to instruct Oracle BI Presentation Server to refresh GUIDs on restart. Edit the file to add the last line in the following instruction.

ToolTip in OBIEE 11G Reports when we hover on its data!!

Hello gurus,
I have a requirement where I have to display ToolTip in OBIEE 11G reports when one hovers on its data. For example, If I have a column in a report which displays "serial no." say the data in column is 1,2,3,4,5 etc. when I hover on 1, it should display name corresponding to it. when I hover on 2, it should display another name.
These values which will be displayed on hover action can be hardcoded, they are static values.

OBIEE 11g performance problem

I am facing a performance problem in OBIEE 11g. When I run the query taking from nqquery.log in database, it is giving me the result within few seconds. But In the OBIEE Answers the query runs forever not showing any data.

Hi Titas,
with such problems typically, at least for me, the cause turns out to be something simple and embarrassing like:
- I am connected to another database,
- The database is right but I have made some manual adjustments without committing them,
- I have got the wrong query from the query log,
- I have got the right query but my request is based on multiple queries.
Do other OBIEE reports work fine?
Have you tried removing columns one by one to see whether it makes a difference?

How to set width of a prompt in OBIEE 11g?

Hi,
We have recently upgraded to OBIEE 11G.
In 10g all our prompts were fine. After upgrade, the prompts look distracted. All the prompts are Choice Lists.
The width of the prompts is varying depending on the width of the values that are coming from the DB.
Our requirement demands fixed width for the prompts. Is there any way to do it!!

Setting TNS_ADMIN parameter in OBIEE 11G

Hi Gurus,
I have done simple install on Linux 64 bit Machine, i need to setup TNSNAMES.ORA file. I have copied my tnsnamesora file to:
1. <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\Oracle_BI1\network\admin
2. <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\oracle_common\network\admin
and now in user.sh file taken from <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\instances\domain2\bifoundation\OracleBIApplication\coreapplication\setup, i need to update the tnsnames.ora path in TNS_ADMIN variable, when i opened the user.sh file, i found all the lines in the file commented, please help me out in which line i need to add the path for TNS_ADMIN.

Hi Kalyan,
i referred this blog for adding tns entries for OBIEE 11g, for windows users.cmd has only one TNS_ADMIN, but in users.sh file there are many TNS_ADMIN and moreover all are are commented out, so i am not sure where and to what i should assign the path.

OBIEE 11g as a service in windows

Here are the steps to configure OBIEE 11g as windows service.
Admin server and bi server needs to be configured as service.
Create boot.properties files with weblogic admin username and password in security folder.
Here are the changes I made to make it work. I created two copies of installsvc.cmd file in wls_home/server/bin and renamed them to be used in scripts and make changes.
One for admin server and other for node manager (bi server).
cmd file for admin server.

Unpack and run
Create service say OracleOc4j
Needs basic parameters setup
Cmdline and Home
