Annotations on Acrobat Reader iPad

On my iPad 2, in some PDF documents, I cannot start annotations at the exact location of my preference; for example, annotations start at the end of the line and this cannot be changed.
Normally, for most PDF documents, the start and end of an annotation can be moved by the user.
Here is what I suspect is happening: the starting and ending point of an Acrobat Reader annotation may be moved word by word. This means that the Reader code detects where words break. In some documents (PDF books mostly, I would be happy to provide an example of such a document should it be asked of me) word breaks are not detected correctly.
It would be great if you could address this issue in a future update.
Thank you very kindly for your time and kudos on your otherwise EXCELLENT *FREE* Acrobat Reader for the iPad!

  • How do I Reveal/Hide Hidden Layers for viewing with Acrobat Reader (iPad)?

    Hi,
I've created a document in Quark Xpress with multiple layers which I then exported to a PDF. Using Acrobat Pro I created hotspots which revealed/hid these layers on rollover. It works perfectly on the desktop version of Acrobat Reader but not on Acrobat Reader for iPad (where the hidden layers are automatically switched on and touching the hotspots does not hide them). Does anybody know a good work around to this?

There are many features which are possible in the desktop version of Adobe Reader which won't work in Reader for tablets. I think this is one of them. Probably no workaround possible until the feature is updated.

  • Using hyperlinks in Acrobat Reader iPad, iPhonr

I have created an 'eBook' on maritime safety, using current Word for Mac. There are several hyperlinks in it, which I have checked. When I output as PDF file, so it can be read using Adobe Reader (which works quite well with my text and graphics) none of the hyperlinks work. Am I missing something or does Reader on iPad/iPhone not recognize hyperlinks?
The Adobe Reader on my iMac recognises the hyperlinks perfectly.
    Thanking in advance.

The problem is that Word for the Mac does NOT correctly write a link into the PDF file. But then why does it appear to work in Reader for the Mac or Acrobat for the Mac? Because those applications have a preference which temporarily creates a URL hyperlink. If you look at Preferences > General, you'll probably find that Create Links from URLs is checked. If you uncheck it, your links will not work.
If you look for links in Acrobat, you'll find there are no links. You can look for them with the Create or Edit Link tool.
Reader for iOS has no such preference. The problem is in the way Word for the Mac creates the PDF file. (It's not only hyperlinks. It's also not possible to generate bookmarks form Word for the Mac either. It's always been this way.)
You'll have to use Acrobat or another tool to correctly add hyperlinks.

  • Acrobat Reader iPad Version - Formularfelder leeren

    Hallo Zusammen,
    Thx
    Jürgen

  • IPad, Acrobat Reader, Content (text and pictures) no longer showing, just blank pages

    Hi,
I have a user who successfully opened a .pdf attachment from outlook mail and then opened it in Acrobat Reader on the iPad and then edited it and moved it to a created folder.
Everything was working fine and the user highlighted text in the .pdf document too.
What then happened is when the user subsequently opened the file, the highlights were shown but not the content (text and pictures).
I checked they had the latest version via the apps store updates and noted there had recently been an update which had been applied.
I did check also in the diagnostics to see if there were any acrobat files, but there were none, I also turned on 'send diagnostics' in case this this will help in the future.
I rebooted the iPad by pressing and holding the power and home buttons until the apple logo appeared.
Checked again to see if I could view the .pdf  content (it's around 8.5 MB file with 32 pages), still nothing showing apart from the yellow highlights that the user had done.
From within Acrobat Reader on the iPad I chose to open the file in iBooks to see if I could read it there.  I could successfully open the file in iBooks and the front page thumbnail was showing (I did note that in Acrobat reader the thumbnail was white).
I found the email with attachment and opened it again in Acrobat Reader and it opens correctly, suggesting somehow the previous copy had become damaged?  I have now saved this good copy over the top of the existing bad copy and all is OK except that the user has lost the highlights previously made.
Can you give me some idea of how this file has become broken in Acrobat Reader on the iPad and how I can avoid it happening again.
    Many Thanks.

    Thanks for replying.
This is the first time it has happened, the user has several folders containing files (on their iPad), (some .pdf's with additional highlights) these files are typically company agm board packs so contain pages of text and photo's too.
I put it down the fact that when I checked the app store for updates there had recently been an update and the user had not rebooted their iPad for some time, hence some of the underlying adobe reader files were perhaps between versions.
I don't know how you handle files when performing an update, do you close the app, flush files from memory and do a clean update?
I can confirm that the .pdf file had not been sent  as an email attachment after having added the highlights.
Because the acrobat document contains so many pictures (32 pages and 8.5MB) when scrolling through it takes several seconds for some pages to appear, and others with text and pictures quite a while for the text to become sharp, I presume this is because the Acrobat Reader cannot open the 8.5MB file in one go and has to keep swapping it out of memory.  Having reached the end if I scroll back to the beginning it takes 10's of seconds before the first page re-appears, otherwise it's just a white page.  Interestingly in iBooks the pages appear almost immediately when viewing.
The iPad in question is model MD368B/A, 64GB, Software Version 7.1.1 (11D201) and has 28GB Memory available.  Usage tells me Adobe Reader is taking 328MB and is version 11.3.1
I have just finally browsed back to recent documents, opened 2 or 3 other documents and then this one again (from recent) and it is now broken, just shows white pages (and on the thumbnail too) with my test highlights. so I can now apparently reproduce it.
Hope this all helps you re-produce
    Regards,

  • How can I activate the text reflow feature in Acrobat Reader For Ipad

I have used Acrobat Reader for reading ebooks for a long time. Now in my Ipad I cannot find a way to use the text reflow feature. Can any doy help me?

Sorry, no text reflow on an iPad. Most PDF files don't reflow. I read tons of PDFs on Macs and never reflow them.

  • Acrobat Reader for Ipad

I downloaded the acrobat reader app for iphone/ipad and tried to open a form from a website and was given the message that I needed a later version of the pdf viewer and given the following link, www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html . This does nothing, anyone else have this problem or a solution. When I say it does nothing I mean it just takes me back to the app store which say that it is installed and the latest version.

Bernd is correct, the Adobe Reader for ios does not support filling XFA forms (forms created by Livecycle Designer). If you create the form using the form eding features in Acrobat (or another tool that creates non-xfa acroforms), then you should be able to fill it in the mobile reader.

  • HOW TO MAKE  ACROBAT READER THE DEFAULT VALUE ON AN IPAD?

I use Acrobat Pro XI  to create forms, no problem on a laptop but on an iPad Acrobat Reader is not the default app, and the form cannot be filled in, how can I make AR the default app?

Actually, according to this page How to Use Dropbox With Adobe Reader - Snapguide you can go straight from DropBox to Adobe Reader without involving Apple's reader.

It could be a corrupted file. Can you view it on a Mac or PC in Adobe Acrobat.
BTW, there is no Acrobat Reader on iPad. It's ADOBE READER.

  • How put some PDFs in Acrobat Reader on iPad ? On the Adobe Cloud  ?

How put some PDFs in Acrobat Reader on iPad ? On the Adobe Cloud  ?
    Thanks !!

    pierreswaggy,
If you have a PDF document opened in some other app on your iPad/iPhone, you can use the "Open In" feature to open it in Adobe Reader for iOS.
For iPad, see How to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad on iOS 7 or 8 version)
For iPhone, see How to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS (iPhone on iOS 7 or 8 version)
If you have PDF documents on your Mac or Windows desktop/notebook computer, you can use Acrobat.com (cloud storage) to share them with your computer(s) and mobile device(s).
    On your Mac/Windows computer
    Open a web browser.
    Go to Acrobat.com (https://cloud.acrobat.com).
Sign in with your Adobe ID.
    Upload your files to Acrobat.com.
You can also use the desktop version of Acrobat or Adobe Reader to open a PDF document from Acrobat.com or save to Acrobat.com.  Please check the File menu or the toolbar for the options.
    On your iPad/iPhone
    Launch Adobe Reader for iOS.
Go to the Reader home screen.
Tap My Account (in the lower left corner).
Sign in with your Adobe ID.
Tap Acrobat.com in the left pane to see the files on Acrobat.com in Reader.
If you have a lot of large PDF documents on your computer, it would be easier and faster to transfer them to your iPad/iPhone at once (instead of one document at a time) using iTunes.
See How to transfer PDF documents from your computer to your iPad/iPhone.
The documents transferred to your iPad/iPhone using iTunes will appear in the Documents section.  Because they are stored locally on your iPad/iPhone.  Please note that any locally stored documents will be erased by iOS, if you uninstall (instead of update) the Reader app.
Please let us know if you have additional questions or any problems.

  • Acrobat reader sync on Ipad

After editing a PDF and uploading it to the acrobat.com Cloud all is fine. However when editing and making amendments to the same files later, when uploading/syncing it again creates a new document in the cloud instead of  giving you the option of overwriting the old file. This is standard in all cloud services like Dropbox , IOSX sync, cubby, etc.
Why is this not possible in Acrobat Reader. I end up having to delete the older duplicate files from the cloud 'from my MacBook' because for some reason I CANNOT do this from my IPad. I have to do this every time when editing the same file so I don't end up with 100 versions of the same file. Not very handy for a mobile device.
    Any improvement would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Once you have uploaded a file to Acrobat.com, a new copy is created on your device. You will see a 'cloud' icon next to the file (in the Recents tab) indicating that this is an Acrobat.com file.
Any changes that you make in this file are automatically saved back to Acrobat.com when you close the file. You need not upload it again.
You can see the file being saved back to Acrobat.com in the 'Outbox' tab that appears when there are changes that have been made to a file that need to be sync'ed back.
    Hope this helps.

I can't see the clock header on my Acrobat Reader.  Adobe forum said to post this question on Apple Forum because of the Apple's new UI concept.

I don't know what happened either, but it would still be an Adobe issue. The app belongs to it.

  • Acrobat Reader 8 and 10 coexistence on Windows 7: How to choose the default version

My organisation has installed Acrobat 8 and then Acrobat 10 with the option to keep the version 8 installed. This works fine as we can start both versions independently (after making sure one or the other verion is not running).
One of the old application we use only works with acrobat reader 8 (the only reason why kept it!) but when I try to generate a PDF using PDF creator, the way the application works, acrobat reader X is called when it should be calling reader 8 (the app reads an ini file where the path to 8 is specified).
I found a workaround to make the app call the 8 without touching the file association (when you double click on a pdf, it is opened with reader X) but i am not sure it is "supported" :
in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\AcroRd32.exe i have changed the "default" value to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" and left the "Path" value set to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"
Do you think this could be a correct solution to our problem so that we can make the changes to the app to work properly on X and get rid of reader 8?
    any help would be appreciated!

And in addition to Julios advice (9.x is a great release also in my opinion): You should be aware that you have to upgrade in a couple of small steps so that the config can be migrated. I would first upgrade to the latest 8.0 release and then to the latest 8.2. That should go really smooth. The next upgrade to 8.4 will need many manual corrections for the NAT-migration as the automatic migration has never worked well for my ASAs and I have never heard that anyone was happy with the result of the automatic migration. After that, the last step to the latest v9 will again run quite smooth.
But as usual, read the release-notes to be aware of problems that are specific to your environment.
