I guess, your demands don't offer any other solution. Speaking of me (no use of FrontRow), I keep my tapes, and I own 0.7TB of hdd space for my 'actual' projects (yepp, the one from last year still needs some finishing...........)
as far as I understood the Library function of iM08, it would simplify your process dramatically, allthough you need tons of harddrive space..
haven't found until now any info, HOW the Library handles your footage, but it looks like, it indeed demands the original data, meaning 13GB/h ... (other apps/systems follow the strategy to create a low-res, preview only version of imports for a library/editing ... off-line-editing ... for final rendering, you have to 'insert' the raw material....)
... so, probably, you are the one for iM08 ..
last word: iM is by concept not meant to spread imports to many projects; that is more a priviledge of tools as FinalCutExpress, which handles bins etc. ...- but, FCE is little integrated into FrontRow ... (?)

Installing EBS R12 in virtual pc 2007

Hi hussein,
I have a laptop with 4Gb Ram and win7 OS.
I installed virtual pc 2007 on it. I planned to install EBS R12 on linux rhel 4.6 so...
I tried installing Linux RHEL 4.6 using the ordinary CD installer, but when I finished the login screen resolution
is not correct, I see big colored bars and the text are so big. How do you resolve this?
I my installer not compatible with virtual pc 2007? is there different linux version made for the virtual pc?
Can you help me find docs on those who have successfully installed EBS on virtual pc?
Is ubuntu linux also supported by EBS R12? I see some sample install but Im not sure if this is ordinary/normal
ubuntu or it is made special for virtual pc only like the "XP Mode" installer which not really the normel XP cd
i guess.

Sometimes, Rapid Install failed to complete the post check and you will have to start the application services manually and click on the retry button to finish the installation.

However, I would recommend you go with a software which was test before (I did manage to install Oracle Apps 11i/R12 on RHEL/OEL 4 and 5 running on VMWare with no issues).

i guess.It is not supported. I have also seen couple of documents covering the installation steps on this OS, but I am not going to say it would work.
I would suggest you go with a certified Linux OS on VMware, and see if it works. Or, mention more details about your previous installation so we may try to fix it.

Dedicated Upgrade / Migration Tracks at OOW

At Oracle OpenWorld this year (November 11-15, 2007, San Francisco, http://www.oracle.com/openworld/2007/index.html) there is a dedicated JD Edwards program self-contained in the San Francisco Hilton. This allows us to concentrated on JD Edwards specific topics, and gives us all a chance to interact together in a fairly small space.
Included in the JD Edwards program there will be a specific dedicated track for Upgrades with 5 sessions, and a second track for Migrations with 4 sessions. Each of these tracks will include a panel discussion with customers that have completed these projects, and a chance for you to ask them questions such as "how did you justify the project", "what did you learn to do and avoid", "where and when do you need consulting help", and more.

Hi Dan,
You are on the right track. However you can perform some of these function "online".
First you want to ensure that you are running at a minimum, Nexus 1000v SV1(4a) as ESXi 5.0 only began support on this release. With SV1(4a), it provides support for both ESXi 5.0 and ESX/i 4.1.
Then you can follow the procedure documented here:
Upgrading from VMware Release 4.0/4.1 to VMware Release 5.0.0
This document walks you through upgrading your ESX infrastructure to VMware Release 5.0.0 when Cisco Nexus 1000V is installed. It is required to be completed in the following order:
1. Upgrade the VSMs and VEMs to Release 4.2(1)SV1(4a).
2. Upgrade the VMware vCenter Server to VMware Release 5.0.0.
3. Upgrade the VMware Update Manager to VMware Release 5.0.0.
4. Upgrade your ESX hosts to VMware Release 5.0.0 with a custom ESXi image that includes the VEM bits.
Upgrading the ESX/ESXi hosts consists of the following procedures:
–Upgrading the vCenter Server
–Upgrading the vCenter Update Manager
–Augmenting the Customized ISO
–Upgrading the ESXi Hosts
There is also a 3 part video highlighting the procedure to perfrom the last two steps above (customized ISO and upgrading ESXi hosts)

EBS 2008 Console and SCE 2007 Crashes

We recently had an issue where the EBS (Essential Business Server) 2008 Console started crashing. We were able to identify that the OperationsManager database was exceeding the SQL Server Express 2005 DB limit. We referenced the article How

We also found that database size did not decrease and used scripts to reduce the LocalizedText database as it was very large. Since the cleanup we continue to have Event Logs referring to failed inserts and also problems with the RunAs account. All
of the KB articles refer to solutions that require changes in the SCE Console, but the SCE 2007 Console crashes after attempting to run on our EBS 2008 Management server.
How can we resolve our issues if we cannot start the console?

Have you checked if event CLR20r3 in the application log? If so, would you please provide detailed information about the error? In addition, have you uninstalled WSUS before? If so, I suspect
it’s because Windows Server Update Service was uninstalled. I suggest we could do a replacement mode install of Management Server. Please perform the following steps to see if it works.
1. Install the management server using the EBS management disk
2. Begin the installation of the EBS Management server and stop once you reach the EBS setup (OOBE) wizard.
3. Press Shift+F10 to open a command shell. From here, install the EBS Preparation and Planning tools, but *DO NOT launch them* after they are installed.
4. Replace WsusSetup.exe with the SP2 version using the following steps.
5. Download the WSUS 3 SP2 x64 version. You can get it here.
6. Rename the downloaded package from WSUS30-KB972455-x64.exe to WSUSSetup.exe
7. Rename C:\Program Files\Windows Essential Business Server\Bin\SCE\Setup\AMD64\WSUSSetup.exe to C:\Program Files\Windows Essential Business Server\Bin\SCE\Setup\AMD64\WSUSSetup.old
8. Copy the new WSUS package to C:\Program Files\Windows Essential Business Server\Bin\SCE\Setup\AMD64\
9. Replace the WSUS_HOTFIX with an update for the Preparation and Planning wizard using the following steps.
10. Rename C:\Program Files\Windows Essential Business Server\bin\WSUS_HOTFIX\KB954960_x64.msp to KB954960_x64.old.
11. Download the KB 977195 update for the Preparation and Planning wizard to the server. Shortcut here.
12. Extract the MSP from the CAB and rename it to KB954960_x64.msp. Copy this KB954960_x64.msp file into the folder C:\Program Files\Windows Essential Business Server\bin\WSUS_HOTFIX\ .
13. Close the command shell and continue with the EBS Management setup. Select NO to updates.

Fusion vis-a vis EBS

I'm not sure but people around say that once Oracle Fusion comes into play, and clients shift into this mode, Oracle apps technical consultants will have a
tough time as Developer forms and reports will become passe. Knowldege of Java will become an absolute necessity, and all reports will be developed in XML.
I have a few queries in this context.
a) How is Fusion expected to be different from the 11i and 12i EBS packages used today?
b) When is Fusion expected to come into prominence?
c) Are technical consultants indeed going to struggle in this scenario?

A couple of the things I have been told:
Forms will not be part of Fusion
Fusion will be a completely new application (i.o.w. it is not a combined product of all the applications that Oracle has acquired over the last years).
Will technical consultants be struggling? well, that is hard to tell. We will all have to struggle, I guess, to get used to this new application.

I was googling for Oracle Openworld 2007, and noted that OOW 2007 is not being held in San Fransicso this year:

What on earth were your search terms? I tried Oracle Open World/ Oracle Open World 2007/openworld 2007 openworld/ etc etc and all of them returned the Oracle event at the top of the list. Some of them returned Miracle's SQLServer open world in the top 5 admittedly.
The fact that there are only 3 tracks in the event you list might have given you a clue as well.
That all said I'd far rather be at the Lalandia event that OpenWorld itself - the agenda has no fat (well apart from the musical maybe) and the presenters are all absolutely top notch. sadly my company won't pay for either event.

Office 2010 and Office 2007 on same machine

I am currently running the following:
Xcelsius Engage 2008, service pack 4
Windows 7, 64 bit
Office 2007 Ultimate, 32 bit
Everything working well
I purchased a version of Office 2010 Home and Student - it has both 32 and 64 bit versions. My plan was to keep Excel 2007 on my machine so that Xcelsius would still work. Then, I loaded the 64 bit version of 2010. It seemed to work for a session, Xcelsius seemed to pull on the Excel 2007. Then I restarted my machine and Xcelsius could not launch excel. It seemed to occur right after I tried to import an xls that had been created in Excel 2010.
My question is: is it possible to successfully run Xcelsius with Office 2010 Home Student 64 bit? Should my strategy of keeping Excel 2007 have worked? Or should I accept 32-bit is the reality for the next few years?
Also, I see that Xcelsius does not support the Home and Student version of Office. Why is that? Isn't excel, powerpoint, word, the same regardless of the version?

Play one track then stop - please !

Is it not possible ( Using windoes version) to make Itunes only play one track - we use itunes for a simple form of djing, but do not need mixing cross fading etc. - Iust need it to play one track from the library, and while thats playing I want to find the next one, but it not be played until I am ready. I dont want to go through the pain of making a new play list each track.
Is this a feature/mode that has been requested alot - I would have though so

No itunes does not have a queuing feature.
The nearest I have been able to get to it is to create a temporary playlist and put the first track to be played in it. Then set the playlist playing and as long as you don't let the last track end, you can add tracks from your library while it is playing by selecting a track in the library, right clicking and using add to playlist. But that's no good if you want to make an announcement in between tracks.
If you do not want iTunes to advance automatically, you can uncheck the little check boxes to the left of the name column. Then you have to set each track playing manually.

Track Moves not working in Word 2010

Moved text shows as a deletion and an insertion, not a move.
Word is not running in compatibility mode.
I have deleted Normal.dotm and restarted Word.
Occurs in previously saved documents and newly formed.

There's also a call for in Player
java.awt.Component getControlPanelComponent() which might return an Awt component to control the TV Tuner.
So you may have to take take component, and add it to the JFrame.
If that component doesn't do it, then try iterating through
Control[] Player.getControls()
to see if there's any tv tuner control there.
Ps. that code only displays web cam video feed and grabs single photos from it. It won't record video clips. But... it's a good start.

All in one question

Hi,
I have the Pavilion 23t all in one computer. I was reading around on the net about how to upgrade the graphics card, however alot were saying its impossible... (at least from what I read). I hope this is the correct to place to ask this, but is there anyway to use an external graphics card, preferably the Geforce GTX drive as I have Geforce GT now. Or at this point is it even possible? I love my all in one, but for gaming its just not as great with the new games coming out.

IPhone and multi-touch

I assume everyone has been following the iPhone announcement
today:

desktops apps (and even created standalone). Correct?
But what we really need is to be able to tap into the
multi-touch interface:

2. zooming and exploring maps
3. getting all one's fingers into intereractive paint and
draw tools, etc.

It would be a logical platform for Flash given some of its

philosophy in its design. However, the details about OSX and
Safari
support are still far too vague as you point out below.
It wouldn't surprise me in the least, if they modified "OSX"
to "OSX
Mobile" as they move closer to deployment ... but, perhaps
all they need
is a kernel to technically call it "OSX"? Not sure.
Speaking of which ... I think we are forgetting too, how
stable Symbian
and other mobile device centric OSes and platforms are. How
long have
they been working at "OSX for the iPhone", one year? perhaps
two? Looks
impressive in the demo ... but it's only a demo. How much was
"off the
cuff" and not stagged, we have no way of knowing ...
My point being, a SBOD ("spinning ball of death") on a mobile
device
might equate to a death sentence (well, for a first time user
iPhone
experiences), *even* with all the great UI and features
they've added.
Here's hoping they do some exhaustive device and field
testing before
rollout later this year ... in order to limi the amount of
software
and/or firmware updates they have to do later on (we've seen
that on the
initial IPods to be sure) ...
All in all, I'm hopeful, given Apple's track record with
previous
desktop versions of OSX and delivering stable releases (well
more
reliable and complete than say, Microsoft), they'll have
something worth
putting on the iPhone come end of year. Time will tell.

I am currently running Windows XP and want to purchase new PC with windows 7. What do I need to purchase to be assured that this printer works with Windows 7.
