Announcing Design Studio 1.4 SP02 is available on Service Marketplace
Please see SAP note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/2109067 for fixes included and instructions to download
Hi Max / Bhavanam,
I am facing the same issue with both DS 1.2 and 1.3 client. The trace file is similar to the one Bhavanam has indicated. None of the suggested solutions are working, the ones that are described in:
Error "Could not initiate connection. Check the Web Service URL" when using BI Platform connection
OS: Win 7 SP1 32 bit
IE 9.0.8112.16421
JRE 1.7.0_60
The same web service URL is working for QaaWS, Crystal for Enterprise and Analysis for Office clients. It simply fails to work for Design Studio. No error message is shown and the authentication options are grayed out.
Regards,
Saikat

Installing BO Explorer and Design Studio
Hello Experts,
I installed BI 4.1 SP2 Client tools on my laptop: BI 4.1 SP2, Crystal reports 2013, Dashboards SP2 and SAP Lumira and all are successfully installed.
I am trying to install BO Explorer but asking me CMS port number and Administrator Password, just want to confirm if the BO Explorer needs to be installed on BO Server? since we want the tool to be used by our super users to develop and i assume it can be installed on developer laptops.
Also, I am trying to install Design Studio 1.2( downloaded all 4 parts) after running the file for design studio 1.2_1 its looking for design studio 1.3 instead of design studio 1.2_2, could you please confirm design studio installation also if it goes as part of client tools?
Thanks for the help.
KrisHi Kris,
You will be able to access Explorer with URL http://<server name>:8080/explorer The Explorer web app will be deployed on Tomcat post install.
The Design Studio 1.3 is also available to download and I think it has a separate server and client installer. It could be a case that Design Studio 1.3 is compatible with BI 4.1. So I would suggest to try installing Design Studio 1.3

SetSelectedValue() on Radio Button only executes one time in Design Studio 1.2
Using Design Studio 1.2 - I've placed an image on our dashboard that acts as refresh button. When the image is clicked, two radio buttons on the screen should get reset to their default values. The code only executes properly the first time, and any subsequent try does nothing. Does anyone know why this might be happening?
Step 1. Place the image on the screen
Step 2. Add code to On Click event to change values of two Radio Buttons: RB_ORG_LEVEL and RB_YEAR.
Step 3. Change values in both Radio Buttons to any value but their default value.
Step 4. Click the refresh image the first time, and both values get set back to their default values ("Entire Org" and "Current Year").
Step 5. Click the refresh image the second time, and even though the code programmatically sets them to their default values ("Entire Org" and "Current Year"), the change doesn't occur.Could you try this again with the latest Design Studio 1.2 SP2 ? Query Could not be loaded, No service implementation available in Design Studio 1.2
Hi,
This error Message (see attached for details) appears only for 2 users in production.
But the user can access the same query from OLAP analysis, Dsahboard Designer and BEx. His Regional setting are English and he has complete authorizations as well.
Any suggestions are welcome and much appreciated.
Thanks
KrishanuAn idea is to try to do an ST05 trace on the BW backend for the 2 queries that don't work with Design Studio
How to run SAP transaction ST05 to trace a SAP program execution and review trace | SAP application performance
Also, look at the logging that Design Studio provides to see if there is a hint in the logs -
SDK extensions not available anymore after Design Studio re-installation
Hi all
I've faced some issues with my local installation and was wondering if it was due to the fact that my local installation was 1.2.1 while the platform was 1.2. So I've decided to uninstall 1.2.1 and install 1.2 again locally.
Once done, I don't see extensions anymore in the designer (Design Studio Utility Pack for instance) and if I try to install it again it says it's already installed...
Where can I go to delete these extensions completely and re-install them properly?
Thanks in advance
Best RegardsIf all else fails, delete your 'Analysis Config' folder is the short answer.
You can also clean up old/invalid repo archives in debug mode but that's a longer answer. -

solution for rapid Web application development. WebGain has assembled a
compelling toolset for Java developers," said Beth Davis, senior
director of
product management of Macromedia. "The extensible environment in
Dreamweaver
provides the ideal Web authoring solution for the WebGain Studio and we
are
pleased that Dreamweaver has been chosen as the front-end development
platform."
"We share WebGain's vision," said John Pugh, CEO and President of The

Eclipse 4.3.2
I am learning Design Studio SDK using the Developer Guide Tutorial available in help.sap.com. I am trying to deploy the sample SDK component.
While I try to open Design Studio application from Eclipse, it throws below errors. Run As -> Eclipse Application.
Please help!
Thanks in Advance!
-JeniHi Jenifer
It looks to me as if the JAVA Home Variable is not set?
To get to this in Windows 7 you need to right click on Computer and select properties
Then click Advanced System Settings, Then Click Environment Variables button,
Have you got a JAVA_HOME Variable as per the attached screenshot? Please not this need to point to the Java folder on your PC -
Conversion to Design Studio templates
Hi experts,
We are in the pre-study phase for the conversion of all 3.x BEx web templates (serveral hundreds of them) to either 7.x or BO e.g. Design Studio. Right now we are a bit concern regarding the gaps between 3.x and Design Studio at the moment, especially the RRI, bookmarking, personalization, broadcasting and so on. The question are:
If we choose to convert the 3.x templates to Design studio now, do we need to redo all the Design Studio templates again when these features are available at a later time? Or can the upcoming features be easily incorporated in the existing templates, for example, just mark the context menu options for RRI or personalization etc, just like the WAD does for all the underlying BEx queries?
Design Studio can access data from universe, from HANA and BEx query. Is it possible (maybe in the near future) to be able to change data source on which the query is based on just like the feature in WEBI? If so, the Design Studio templates are reusable, that is, no need to recreate templates again in the future in case there will be some major underlying data flows rebuilds from BW to HANA.
Thanks.Zabrina:
I don't think we have enough details from SAP yet to answer your conversion questions
Per the latest roadmap this is not in the next release:

Accessing a SAP BW table data to display content in Design Studio Application
Hi,
I am working on a Design Studio application that contains a link to all the reports for different business users in an organization. The end user should see the links to only those reports he/ she has access to. This access rights are stored in a SAP BW table. I want to pull that data from SAP BW table to my application so that I can implement a layer of security in my application.
1) What would be a good idea to get SAP BW table data in a design studio application.(This data is not used to populate my application, but will be used to check access rights for a user who is going to open this application).
2) What will be a good option for deployment of this application ? On SAP Netweaver platform or on SAP BI PlatformHi Michael,
Let me present my issue in a more clear format,
I have a web template launch page that was created using BW 3.5. This web template has only one web item and that is 'role menu'. This role menu will display all the available list of web templates for each user as per the access rights of each user. Hence this web template was the only door for my end users to access BEx reports.
While we were migrating to 7.x we found that there were no equivalent item available in 7x version. As a workaround, I migrated all the queries and web templates from 3.5 to 7x but I didn't migrate the door. I asked my Basis team to replace the connection parameters for the links present in the door.
So now all my users still use the 3.x web template but when they click on items in the list, they will be accessing reports that are of 7x version.
Now my IT is planning to upgrade IE and knowing that bex 3.5 tools are not compatible with BW 7.4. This sounds like the role menu won't work at all with 7.4.
I started exploring Design Studio to search for an alternative for Role Menu component. I created an application using HTML template in Design Studio. Now I am looking for different approaches to implement the same functionality in Design Studio. Can you please provide some inputs on this scenario. -
How to set a BEx Query Condition in Design Studio (e.g. Net value GT 0)
Hi experts,
I have set a simple condition in my BEx Query...
e.g. key figure "Net value" GT 0 to become only positive values in the query result.
In the Query runtime the condition works successful, but in the Design Sudio view the defined Query condition doesn´t work.
In my Design Studio crosstab I have tried to switch between the display setting "Conditional formating Visible" true/false, but without success.
By the way, before I have posted this thread, I had a look at this two blogs...
Design Studio 1.0: Create a Scorecard Using SAP BW BEx Query Exceptions
Design Studio 1.2 - a Second Look
Any ideas or experiences?
Thanks and regards,
MichaelHi Michael,
I think you are mixing up two different BEx terms. Conditions are filters on key figures (show me only the results with a value bigger than 50). Exceptions do not filter the result set, but provide a formatting based on the values in the result set (if value is bigger than 50, make its cell red).
The Conditional formatting setting in Design Studio refers to the BEx exceptions. For the BEx conditions there isn't such a setting available. You just have to activate the condition in your BEx Query and use that for your data source in Design Studio.
If you want a workaround to enable/disable conditions from Design Studio, check this blog I wrote: HackingSAP.com - SAP Design Studio and Conditions It shows how you can use variables to adjust the conditions (and also activate) from within Design Studio.
Cheers,

Business Objects Platform 4.1 EDGE - Design Studio 1.5
Hi @ll,
i have a question about the use of Business Objects EDGE 4.1 in combination with the Design Studio ADD-ON.
We want deploy the Design-Studio add-on 1.5 (Ramp-up) into our Business Objects EDGE 4.1 platform.
Is this technical possible? Are there any restrictions from SAP?
Thanks a lot
JochenHi Jochen,
I think it is better to ask that question directly to your SAP Contact as Design Studio 1.5 is not publicly available today.
Best regards,

Problem starting design studio
Hello to all,
Installed BAM 10.1.2.1 on Windows 2000 server. All services start OK and Oracle BAM start page works fine. When I try and start the design studio I get the following error:
"VBA initialization failed"
and then
"failed to create empty document"
Any ideas ,
AlonSomething apparently went wrong with the Enterprise Link install. Please try the newly available BAM 10.1.3.1, which is downloadable from OTN.

This thought has been bothering me and I just want to ask some experts what they think
I was wondering regarding the difference between creating a Dashboard/Application in Design Studio or direct using SAPUI5. I have create some native application using OData and consuming it in a SAPUI5 application using the MVC. I am current facing a requirement to create dashboard application using Design Studio and I am finding it difficult to create the relation between the both if there is such a thing. What I find really difficult is to not have a fool view of the HTML5 and script. Instead I am required to input varies scripts in different section in order to manage the events. Are there any plan to make DS more like a wysiwyg of the SAPUI5 which has a lot more elements and give direct visibility in an editor to manage properties and events. It just feels harder to use DS even though you can drag and drop elements. With SAPUI5 you just go the public SAPUI5 SDK check an UI element snippet code paste and go to the API and start fixing in the way you want.Hi Carlos,
in the context you describe - access to HANA models in native HANA environment, I am sure you can come quite far also with Native UI5 on top of ODATA. The difference is - in this path you are on your own (which is sometime better, sometimes not so good)...
I know that there is a functionality of generating HANA Views based on BEx Queries, and this is improved in last SPs of 7.40 NW - nevertheless there will be still some restrictions. And this is the place where the difference starts:
BEx Query variable handling - here you would need to code some prompt dialog on your self, which is delivered in design studio
More complex functionality in BEx Queries - I do not know what is the delta, but I know there is some
Hierarchy handling - is HANA already handling all cases of hierarchies, even then - there are small differences in comparison to BW.
Visualization - I am not sure if you can get a real cross-tab component (perhaps you do not need it)
Context Menu - also something you have to make on your own
more others I do not have in my mind now...
Basically this is also the question - is the HANA functional scope for your scenarios comparable and acceptable to those which you are running in WAD? For some customers this answer is YES, for some NO. If yes, you can look at other reporting possibilities (eg. plain UI5). If no, I would recommend to go with Design Studio as many functions which are complex to develop are available already in the framework.
Personally, I am wandering about your WAD scenarios - as very often those are much more complex and bound to BW functionality which is already answering the question above to NO, but perhaps some can be answered to YES.
In practice, I think a mixed solution is a the key - you can try to move to native HANA as much as possible, this brings value - in terms of the stack clarity and also in terms of performance as there is nothing between HANA and UI (almost).
Btw, the statements above are as of TODAY - I am sure in few years those will be revised with new HANA releases and improvements in the HANA models.
this was my private view on this topic.
