Hello Folks,
I m proud to announce the Beta release of our Java API for the Flash platform: Flash4j 3.0.
In this release we added support for the latest release of Flex and other goodies like Starling, GTween, Alive PDF etc...
We also implemented a brand new "Flex Explorer" based on the new API.
If you are a Java Developer looking  to leverage the Flash platform for amazing  Rich Internet Applications or webbased Games this can be for you.
To see what s new in this release please visit : http://www.emitrom.com/flash4j-beta
Like always feedbacks are very welcome.
Cheers,
Alain

Anyone who has the 3.0 beta(s) has accepted a non-disclosure agreement with Apple prohibiting discussion of the beta outside the restricted developer forums, subject to legal action if not adhered to.
To "get" the beta you have to apply as a developer. The beta agreement is that it is to be installed on iPhones used exclusively for app development and not for personal use. Also, once the beta is installed, your phone is "locked" in development mode and you can't restore to prior released versions.

  • ANNOUNCE: Visual J2EE Development Environment Released

Roaming Media announces a public beta release of Roaming Studio 1.0.
Roaming Studio is a comprehensive software development environment that
fully supports pattern-driven design, assembly and deployment of Java™ 2
Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE™) applications. It simplifies and
accelerates the delivery of these enterprise applications by providing
visual representations of components and assemblies. It takes care of
the dirty work by generating and maintaining source code while you
concentrate on architectural and business level details.
At the same time, Roaming Studio allows you to work at the source code
level if you wish. Its unique IntelliSynch technology watches you as you
work and provides real-time synchronization with the visual
    representations.
Roaming Studio is also one of the first development tools to support the
development and realization of software patterns. This powerful feature
allows architects to create reusable designs that define objects and
their interactions. These designs may then be used to automate the
creation of J2EE components and application assemblies. The current
support for patterns in Roaming Studio is the beginning of a
revolutionary new way of creating applications via automated
    pattern-driven development and reusable components.
Roaming Studio integrates with popular IDEs and supports any
    J2EE-compliant application server.
You can download Roaming Studio at:
    http://www.roamingmedia.com/roamingstudio.htm
The final release is scheduled for October 2001.

Yes, exactly the same flow on our side - interesting to know that it's FLV as well.
My problem remains, though: in iOS 8, if I play a sound (via MP3, SWF, etc) and then check the mic, all further sound in the application stops indefinitely until I close/reopen the app. Since we need to record audio at various times in the app, this will cause a major problem for our users!
I've added a bug in the hopes that someone can verify the problem: Bug#3801262 - Requesting microphone access in iOS 8 (beta 5) terminates all further audio
    Thanks!

  • IBook user - should I go for the mbp?

Ok, I have a 12inch iBook G4 800mhz, 640mb ram. Before people start badmouthing my little baby you sould all know this was my first mac and it was this that made me see the light
Ok so you know my setup. I am at college studying multimedia. For this I use apps such as photoshop, dreamweaver, illustrator and I am starting video next year and would obviosuly be using a video app such as Final Cut. I am only in my first year so its nothing too heavey, but at the same time my iBook is really starting to show its age and next year I have no doubts it will not be able to keep up.
What would you guys recommend? Taking the plunge and getting the Macbook Pro or possibly wait and see what the Macbook has to offer? Im really tempted to go for the pro as it would surely last longer with it being a pro machine. The powerbook 15inch is still an option but once again if im going to fork out £1500 on a laptop on a students budget I want it to last. Does the MBP seem the right choice, or maybe a bit over specced for what I am doing and the MB (when announced) may look a better deal.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

well thats the thing really, money. I am in the market for a new laptop and either way (MB or MBP) I will most probably have to pay through finanicing. If I am to do this over a 2-3 year period it would surely make more sense to go for the mbp right? Am I correct in thinking a pro machine should have a longer lifespan?
I could probably save up and buy a MB (supposing they keep the current ibook prices) but having just passed my driving test and paying for insurance on a car I think financing is the way to go.

  • Camera Raw 4.5 final release?

Now it's been four weeks since Camera Raw 4.5 Release Candidate (ACR 4.5.0.161) was brought to us via Adobe Labs. Does anyone have any issues with it? I don't. Does anyone have an idea when the final release is supposed to arrive? I feel a four-week testing period is more than adequate for a tentative version that's supposed to be a "Release Candidate" (however the plug-in calls itself "4.5 Beta" ... go figure).
Another Camera Raw version most likely will be due in October, to support all the new digital cameras and backs that (hopefully) will get introduced at Photokina in September. I wonder if that's going to be ACR 4.6 ... or will ACR 4.5 "Grand Master" (which means "final release" in Adobe speak) be deferred until then?

    Fortunately not, indeed.

Huh? The conclusions you're drawing from my thinking aloud are, umm ... strange, to say the least. If you feel my inquiry was inappropriate and/or pointless then your reply also is.
Actually, I am quite happy with ACR 4.5RC, and furthermore I didn't hear anybody else reporting any problems. And that's exactly why I'm wondering why the final release isn't out yet. I guess I'd be less wondering if this tentative version had been announced and communicated as Beta rather than as Release Candidate. Anyway ... I'm just curious. It does not mean I was unhappy in any way.

    Yes, obviously.

  • New free Oracle XE database has a PHP manual

I wanted to point out that the newly announced free Oracle XE Beta version of the
Oracle database has a PHP manual. See
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/xe/index.html
The direct link to the manual is:
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/xe102/to_toc?pathname=dev.102%2Fb25317%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Getting+Started%29
The manual is a step by step introduction to building a simple application (it constructs
pretty much the same application the Java and .Net manuals for XE do), so don't
expect any deep revelations about PHP
Post any PHP on XE feedback here or on the XE forum:

  • Since my "upgrade" I no longer have "save as" in Numbers

I can't save a verson of a Numbers spreadsheet. I only get the "save a version" option and it saves the file I'm working on over the top, apparently of whatever is already there.  I suppose you could save then go into the saved files and change the name, but what a pain!! This is a GIGANTIC pain in the *** and for the first time I'm regretting that I switched from Excel to Numbers. Between this and the Safari problems and no longer being able to run "power PC" applications (a little detail that's gonna cost me hundreds) Thanks Mac! I'm quite thoroughly disappointed with the new "upgrade"!!  ****!  The touch pad moving things in the opposite direction??  Excellent change!  Sorry, didn't really come here to ***** but there ya go..

"Perhaps you should do a little research on the Versions feature. If you do, note the Duplicate command"
Agreed theoretically.  But in practise, Apple should review itself:
    1. why the Help has been so useless!  (There is certainly a "Save as", only after you click on the Duplicate...)
    2. why there is no Change List to announce ahead or during beta about the changes and wipe outs (such as dumping the Reminders from Mail!)
Can Apple give more respects to current application users?

  • Nokia Transport Failed

Not installing on my phone....  even from UK.. really Nokia??? don't announce it even in beta if you can't even get this right...
    Application not available
This might be because your phone software needs to be updated, the application is exclusive to a different mobile provider or the app is not available in your region..
Really??? I just updated to 8107 build. and am on vodafone... thanks... I didn't know there's a discriminatory practice here...
Don't announce it if you can't get it right..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Sorry for the trouble in finding the Nokia Transport application at Marketplace. The app will soon be added in the Nokia collection at marketplace after which it should be easier to find. Until that, If you have trouble finding Nokia Transport (or Nokia Transit in US), you can open the Nokia collection and then e.g. Nokia Maps and tap the link more from Nokia Corporation. Nokia Transport should be available in this list.
For more details of Nokia Transport, you can check the web page below:

On the above page you'll find also a link to the FAQ listing the cities where Nokia Transport can currently be used.
