Annoyed at Apple's lack of iPod support

Hi guys, expecting this topic to be deleted....
I bought a first-gen iMac (the lamp design), top model when it was first released in the UK, ever since that I've been an Apple devotee. However, over the past few years I've gone through 6 iPods (2 Minis, 2 Shuffles, 1 3rd gen 1 nano), all of them having died from battery problems or from other issues outside of the warranty. I consider this to be hugely bad-practice, for the amount I've spent on faulty products (they've lasted a tiny amount of time), I could have pretty much bought the entire range of iPods available now.
When I phoned Apple Support to ask if they'd refund the amount i paid for my Nano (which has also broken now), or waive the cost of repair I was transferred and then cut off, pretty much represents my continued dealings with Apple I guess.... I've seen the announcements for the new Apple products and was tempted by a 160GB Classic but after the grief and problems I've had over the past few years with iPod products I'm staying well away, the battery, the product itself and the dire customer service just aren't worth bothering with. Am I alone with all these problems or has anyone else had similar issues with iPods and Apple's service here in the UK?

  • Apple ID - Lack of Business Support

    Dear Community,
    I am coming to you asking for advice. I tried everything else, but I simply ran out of options. Here's the story:
    I run a voip business - we develop a software to handle wholesale operations. It is natural that 99.9% of this market is based on international deals. Therefore I do travel a lot. I have a business presence in a couple of countries in EU and in the US.
    Few years ago we've migrated our hardware platform to Mac, followed by purchasing a couple of iphones, ipads, etc. The business itself isn't big - mostly me and my contractors, but we still left a considerable amount of money in Apple's pocket. Recently, however, it turned out Apple is not really ready for international customers.
    The biggest and most important issue is with the Apple ID accounts. I have one of them in the EU and one in the US. The European one is mostly used for software and hardware registration, while the US one was used primarily for iOS content (apps, multimedia and in-app purchases). The reason for such a decision was that iOS devices are more portable (after all I don't always take my whole office with me when I travel), and I also assumed that since Apple has a huge US customer base, they surely must be used to those people travelling abroad. Both accounts are linked to valid CCs, with valid billing addresses in those two regions.
    However, recently Apple decided to ban all my in-app purchases on the US account. I simply cannot buy anything from inside the apps - which is mostly painful when you consider newspapers (the main content is in fact the in-app purchase). I have tried contacting iTunes support a couple of times, but I could as well try talking to my hairdryer or garage door. The response has always been a link to terms&conds, without a single word of explanation.
    In my 10 year IT practice I used to talk to a LOT of different support representatives. Sometimes on the phone, sometimes via email. This has been by far the WORST of them all. It can be pretty much automated using:

    Can you please let me know how I can get a proper response from Apple in that matter? Phone support says mail iTunes support. iTunes support is as helpful as a batch of copy-pasta monkeys. I have spent some serious amount of money for the iOS purchases and if I had to re-purchase it again using the other account it would cost me more than a new mbpr! Besides, none of these two countries match where I am now, not to mention where I'm gonna be in 2 weeks. I have tried using VPNs througs our office, but it doesn't help.
    The other thing is - how can I purchase Apple Care for my devices that will be valid world-wide? Region-bound warranty extension are of no worth to me, as the chance that I will be in the same country when the device breaks is like 1.72%.

  • Anyone else seriously annoyed at the total lack of Thunderbolt support?

    Apart from the oversized thunderbolt servers for sale on the Apple store (totally in-appropriate for the new macbook air or mac-mini) why is it taking so long for any external drives, adapter cables to appear. Lacie claim to have a portable Thunderbolt drive appearing in the 'Summer 2011'. 
    So MacBook Air buyers beware, it's USB or not much else for you at the moment. Really disappointing.

    There are a number of "available summer 2011" TB devices I am waiting on. My greatest trepidation is that the early devices will be exorbitantly expensive or meagerly capable.
    I want the Sonnet Allegro TB-Firewire adapter, the Sonnet TB Ethernet Adapter, and a reasonably priced portable drive.

    Like thousands of other people, I found iTunes 7.3 is unusable on my machine due to the error "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50)." It has been nearly one week and Apple has not officially commented upon the error let alone fixed it. In addition, reverting to iTunes 7.1 and 7.2, which worked for several days, now fails upon loading due to a runtime error. So despite USERS having worked on the issue and found an apparent work around, I cannot implement it. This effectively makes my computer useless for playing music or podcasts. Thank god I did not buy the iPhone or AppleTV or I would be even more livid. Given Apple's lack of concern for it's customers, I will have to rethink ever switching over from Windows to a Mac.

    No, I did not phone tech support as I do not have any Apple products that are under warranty. In addition, several people who claim they did call Apple support, after there were 25,000 views on this issue, were told that they were the only people who had this problem and their issue was not resolved.
    Now, for this issue, try the following:
    For the runtime error, completely remove iTunes and
    Quicktime

    . After it they are removed, just to make sure,
    download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
    (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301), and then
    remove all references of iTunes and Quicktime.
    Thank you. When I used the Add/Remove Programs to uninstall iTunes I mistakenly believed that I was UNINSTALLING iTunes. Silly me. Going in deleting additional files as mentioned in the document did allow me to re-install 7.2. For that I sincerely thank you. This allowed me to remove all podcasts (keeping the files) while in 7.2. Video podcasts are the alleged cause of the failure of the 7.2 to 7.3 upgrade to work properly.
    Try re-installing iTunes 7.3, and see if it gives you
    the same message. If it gives you a message saying
    the library couldn't be saved, try this:

    When I installed 7.3 without any podcasts being in my library it installed correctly. Since I did not delete my files I was able to import the podcast folder back and then resubscribe to my podcasts. iTunes 7.3 appears to be working correctly now.     Do I feel Apple is not properly supporting this issue? Yes. Apple has known for days that the 7.3 iTunes upgrade will destroy the file library of thousands of iTunes users. There is no warning, no official comment on the support forums that I could find, and no 7.3 fix. I consider that poor support. If you feel good customer support is forcing users to spend their time searching thousands of forum posts on this one problem, most of which did not offer solutions, and make them uninstall/reinstall software, and their library files that is fine. I think it is unacceptable.
    None-the-less, I thank you for taking the time to post the document links which were quite helpful.

    I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
    After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

    If the headphones are the Apple EarPods, it does not work with the 3rd gen shuffle (the remote control buttons do not work). 
    As an alternative, you can get an adapter like this one (there are several similar products)

  • APPLE PLEASE FIX MY IPOD SHUFFLE FOR ME !!!!

    Ok i am starting to really get annoyed.
    Every single time i have connected my iPod Shuffle to my computer (and i have own two computers within the last year) so i have switched to the newer one, so basically its not my PC's fault.
    Every time i connect it, it messes something up. last time i tried to charge it, it froze my pc. I tried again, it kept on ejecting and reconnecting magically without even moving about. And i always connect the iPod to the REAR USB 2.0 ports that i have, and i have 6 of them.
    So anyways, after RE-installing the latest software updater, and iTunes, and restarting, and trying a thousand times, i somehow managed to get songs on to the shuffle.
    But now we have another problem. When put my ipod in SHUFFLE mode it goes alphabetically from A to B to C (artist wise), and when i put it in Normal mode which is supposed to go alphabetically, it goes randomly from A to D to Z to F, etc.
    Also i have 68 songs on it, and somehow it managed to play the same 10 songs over and over and over, without me even turing it off... acting as if i only have 10 songs on the thing.
    Its been less than a year i have own this, and i dont think i have AppleCare on it, since my Uncle bought this for me around April/May 2005.
    PLEASE HELP, or APPLE PLEASE FIX MY IPOD SHUFFLE FOR ME!

    Have you ever been able to sync your iPod shuffle to iTunes on your computer, or has something recently occurred?  Are you working with a Mac or a PC?   Without knowing what has been recommended to you, I'm going to start here with the basics troubleshooting for this issue.

    So first I'd say that it's not a good idea to start a new apple id if you have a large purchase history.  You may not transfer purchases between apple IDs.  You should consider some other options listed here http://support.apple.com/kb/HE37  Primarily the option where you or your children have seperate icloud accounts/email accounts that sync their contacts apart from yours.  You may use your apple ID for purchases and use a different one for icloud/email/etc.

    I think it needs to be charged. Try keeping it connected to the computer for some time. Then disconnect and connect again. And I hope you have itunes installed in the PC as the iPod can be synced only with that. Here's the link to download itunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/

    Just start with verifying the Apple Mobile Device Support is up and working, Just follow the steps here:

    After Stopping it and Restarting and it is still not reconizing your device Then start uninstalling
    Start with: Itunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device.
    I had an issue uninstalling Apple Software Update, and was unable to get it off my computer.
    But after all that download and reinstall itunes.
    After doing all that i was able to get mine to show up in itunes

    You can't. Bluetooth on the iPod Nano only supports A2DP (Stereo Bluetooth) and low power devices (think pulse monitor).
