Annoying Bonjour Prompt

Once a day, when I launch iChat I get prompted to start up Bonjour. This doesn't happen every time I launch, only the first time I start up iChat each day. When I go into the Preferences: Accounts section, I have a Bonjour account, but I can't delete it. I've tried going into Directory Access in the System Preferences to disable Bonjour, but that's apparently impossible.
What can I do to get rid of that annoying "Would you like to start up Bonjour?" prompt each time I start up my iChat?
Cait
p.s. Everything under the Bonjour account section is disabled.

i all,
I have one FAQ that is related but not much use here
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121918
Having said that one way around this might be top delete all the iChat .plists Do it whilc iChat is Open
This will make iChat Run the Start up Screens again when you restart it - although they should be pre-filled with your main account details.
At this point I would agree to Bonjour to be active and then Disable it it the Preferences afterwards.
The FAQ shows how you can also hide the Bonjour Buddy List Window with the Red Button.

  • How to remove an annoying Newsstand prompt?

    My Newsstand icon constantly displays an update prompt at the top right - but there's no obvious magazine title indicator telling me which title is being referred to. In spite of opening each publication, the update prompt remains. While this isn't getting in the way of my using the i-Pad... it is annoying. How can I get rid of this prompt?

    You must remove the device from the vdisk server running in your primary domain.

  • Annoying password prompts

    Is there any way to turn off iOS's very annoying habit of asking for my Apple ID password at inappropriate times?
    I'm frequently prompted for the password but the most annoying and illogical times are the following:
    1. Every time I open Newsstand even though I don't have any automatic content downloads turned on and I am not attempting to download anything, I just want to read content already downloaded. Surely it should only need to prompt me if I want to download something new.
    2. Every time I connect to or disconnect from a wi-fi network. This happens whether it is accidental (losing or finding the signal from a known router) or deliberate (turning wi-fi on and off).
    As far as I can see there is nothing which should be using my Apple ID. I don't use iCloud and only sign in to iTunes if I want to download something.

    Password for what? Are you using MobileMe, or iCloud? If you were using MobileMe but have migrated to iCloud you will be unable to sync your calendar, apart from an unsupported hack as Snow Leopard is not compliant with iCloud's requirements.

  • Annoying update prompt page

    Anyone figure out a way to stop the annoying 3.0 update page from popping up every time I sync my iPod touch? I have no use for the update and don't want it but it only has a "remind me later" button.

    I attempted all variations on this theme I could come up with. iSync seems to have little to do with my iPod but I turned off auto update for iTunes. There are no other auto update preferences I could find short of turning off all updates for Leopard. Still need help her folks. Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Silent Print and Annoying Printing Security Prompt

    Hello all,
    I finally managed to get my silent print JavaScript to work but I can’t figure out how to get rid of the annoying security prompt "This document is trying to print. Do you want to allow this?". I tried adding the JavaScript folder to the trusted sites under Security (Enhanced) but I am still being nagged with this prompt. Is this feature only for PDF files or can it be used for JavaScript files? I added a button so the user can just click and the PDF document will save in a specified location using PDFCreator. Yes, I know it is strange that I am printing a PDF file to a PDF but I have my reasons. Is it possible to get rid of this message or am I going to have to put up with it. Here is my code:
    function silentprint()
    var pp = this.getPrintParams();
    pp.interactive = pp.constants.interactionLevel.silent;
    pp.printerName = 'PDFCreator';
    this.print(pp);
    function toolbar()
    app.beginPriv();
    app.addToolButton({
    cName: "myToolButton",
    cLabel: "Flatten Active Form",
    cExec: "silentprint();",
    cTooltext: "Click to flatten active form.",
    cEnable: true,
    nPos: 0
    app.endPriv();
    toolbar();

    Hi Shawnny,
    Here are a few points:
    You can (or should be able to) bypass the security warning on your machine.
    There is no way you can set up the doc so other users won't see that warning. Security prefs are on by default.
    Setting up a privileged location should work. Try trusting the file and/or the folder on your machine.
    If that doesn't work, choose to Trust Always from the yellow message bar.
    If that doesn't work, look at the registry and see if you file is indeed trusted for silent printing and JavaScript. Details here: 9   Trust Methods — Acrobat Application Security Guide. Feel free to post your registry prefs here.
    The last option is un-check Enhanced Security in your preferences.

    Ben

  • 5800 and annoying prompts

    I've had a look around, but is there any way to get those annoying connection prompts to stop popping up in internet-enabled apps?
    All I want is for my phone to use WiFi when available, and whatever O2 connection (HSDPA, 3G, Edge, GPRS) is available when WiFi isn't. I don't want the phone to ask me anything... just do it.

    Thanks, but that is exactly how my phone is set up already. This works for most apps, but there are some apps that don't have an option to let you set the default connection - ie the ovi store. I was hoping for some kind of global prompt option, as I would also like to turn off those prompts that ask me if I want to allow connection to the network.
    As an aside, is there a way to set the keyboard to full qwerty across the entire phone? Some apps don't remember my keyboard preferences when I change them and it's annoying to have to change them all the time.

  • How To Stop Internet Explorer 11 Prompting To Display Full-screen Mode

    Is there a way to stop the desktop version of Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1 from prompting whether you want a website to display content in full-screen mode?
    When it displays the prompt "Do you want to view youtube.com in full screen?  (Press Esc to exit.)", if you select 'Always Allow', it doesn't permanently remember this setting, as it will be reset when the browsing history is deleted.
    Surely there must be a setting somewhere to prevent it from displaying this prompt every time?

    In fact, I suspect it is something that a Flash programmer would know but YouTube would know for that reason.
    Robert Aldwinckle
    I disagree, as far as I'm concerned it's a Microsoft problem, not a Flash programmer problem. In fact, more specifically it's an Internet Explorer 11 problem, as it doesn't occur in IE10 and before. And it's not a problem specific to YouTube either as it
    doesn't just occur on YouTube, it happens on other sites as well.
    It almost seems as though Microsoft changed something in IE11 and forgot to put a setting in either the Internet Zone Settings, Advanced Internet Options or IE Group Policy settings.  Something along the lines of:
    Allow display of full-screen content
    Enable
    Disable
    Prompt (Default)
    Meanwhile, unless there's a setting somewhere to disable the prompts that I can't find, the end user has to put up with these stupid prompts with no way of permanently disabling them?  What was wrong with how it was before with just a semi-transparent
    message that faded out after a couple of seconds which said "Press ESC to exit full screen mode"?  Why the need for an annoying distracting prompt that requires user interaction as well?  And even if there is a reason (which I'd be fine with), why
    is there no option to disable it like you can with other prompts?
    If it's something that a Flash programmer would know, then maybe someone needs to let Microsoft's own Flash programmer's know about it:

  • Is it possible to disable security prompts on AT&T BlackBerry Curve???

    Hello all. I wrote an SMS application that successfully works on my BlackBerry 8310 (on AT&T Wireless). However, everytime I run the application, I get this annoying security prompt that says, "application <my application> has attempted to access the network. Would you like to allow this?". Is there any way I can get rid of this, as it has become VERY tedious to answer this prompt everytime I run the application. I have already gone into options-->advanced options-->permissions and have set everything to "allow" for my application with no success. I've been reading up on this subject and my first inclination would be to assume that it may not be possible due to AT&T/Cingular locking down the phone via the security domain built into the handset:
    (http://developer.att.com/developer/printArticle.jsp?detailId=11300207)
    However, I have read in some places that people were hacking their j2me_domain_registry.sm file with some limited success. I did not see that anyone did this with a BlackBerry though. Has anyone had any experience or know of a way to achieve this. I don't even know how to go about finding this file on the BlackBerry as all the examples deal with non-GSM (CDMA) phones and they primarily deal with Motorola V3XX series. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    You should be able to get rid of this message by enabling firewall. Click on options then security then firewall. Enable and save.

  • Annoying chime when opening

    When starting up or opening up window of Premiere Pro CS4  I get an annoying chime prompt.  How do I get rid of it?

    My guess would be that you have installed a plug-in, or similar, that has a chime, when it loads. I've never had any flavor of Premiere chime.

  • Time Capsule Bonjour requires a global hostname

    Advertising a service globally using Bonjour requires a global hostname.
    Ok, I have had problems and I saw the posting about Airport Utility 5.6
    That solved one problem for allowing me to updating my IPv4 DNS servers
    But, 5.6 will not permit me to enter my IPv6 DNS servers
    And Time Capsule will not permit to save my IPv6 DNS servers
    SO HOW DO I SOLVE THIS Bonjour thing with global hostname.
    It sounds like it needs a Variable Name. So, how do I create one?? PLEASE

    Catch 22: I just found this thread while trying to solve my own Global Host Name problem. I'm getting the GHN/Bonjour prompt when I try to assign static DHCP reservations to two Airport Express units on my network, which ARE running Airport Utility firmware v7.6.3. Unfortunately, my main Time Capsule router only can run firmware v7.6.1.
    Why? Before this latest Global Host Name issue came up, I had to install a new Netgear GS724Tv3 gigabit switch on my network. After upgrading all my Airports and Time Capsules to the v7.6.3 firmware updatea a few weeks ago, my old Netgear GS724Tv2 switch died (power supply wouldn't power back on). So, I bought Netgear's newest v3 model as a replacement switch.
    Unfortunately, I then learned that Apple's v7.6.3 firmware update may have a nasty bug making it incompatible with the new Netgear switch (or maybe new firmware in the new Netgear switch is the bug). No matter: every time I connect the v7.6.3 Time Capsule to the Ethernet network via the new switch, the Ethernet network dies and devices cannot see one another. Stepping back my main Time Capsule router to firmware v7.6.1 resolves the problem, but apparently, if I correctly understand this thread, the v7.6.1 firmware now may be a factor in preventing the establishment of a Global Host Name, which I'm being prompted to do when attempting to set up static IP addresses for the other Apple devices.
    Now maybe I can sidestep this issue if I drop back to firmware v7.6.1 on all my Apple Airport gear (everything was upgraded to v7.6.3 all at once, and after encountering the networking bug, I only downgraded the main router, since this action immediately solved by Ethernet problem. I stopped the troublshooting — until now). Alternatively, I could replace the two other Netgear switches on our network plus two new Time Capsule's and three Airport Express units and hope those actions solve my networking problems.
    What a mess. None of these devices are more than four-years-old.

  • That annoying orange screen when I close a file

    Is there a way to get rid of that screen that pops up every time I close an Illustrator document? For heavens sake, if I wanted to do something else in Illustrator I know how to navigate to it without that annoying screen prompting me. It's really just in the way. Surely there's a preference to turn that thing off somewhere?

    Figures. I was looking through preferences but never even saw that little button in the left corner. I've just been clicking away from it in frustration all this time without even looking it over in depth. Thanks.

  • ITunes 10.6.1.7 won't open on my laptop. Help!

    I have tried various "fixes" that I have found on different blogs and help forums. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, typing in "netsh winsock reset" on some command page, and also getting rid of "Bonjour" prompts or something like that.
    What else can I do? It was working fine until I updated iTunes to the 10.6 version. Then, nothing will open.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

    I do, and I will give this a try...but use of my gaming software is more important than the nussance of having to kill iTunes with task manager.  But, at least then I will know what the problem is.
    edit...well, this seems to have solved the problem.  I wish Apple and Logitech would get on the same page again.  It's like they had a divorce or something about a year ago and since then nothing works right between the two.  As soon as Logitech fixes the issues, Apple makes a new one. And neither company seems all to concerned at how it is affecting their customers.

  • How can I fix repetitive 'fontd' crashes after recovery from time machine backup?

    After recovery from time machine backup (Disk Utility told me to reformat my internal hard drive) i got annoying repetitive prompts from crashing 'fontd'. How can I fix it? Anyone suffering from the same disease?

    Back up all data.
    Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

  • Java exec spawns command window

    Hello,
    I am using JRE 1.4.2 (Eclipse runtime environment). Whenever I execute the following command:
    System.getRuntime().exec("<some command>");
    I am getting a Command Window that pops up while the process executes and closes afterwords.
    Is there any way to prevent this command window from appearing. I have chained all Error and Output streams within the java program but no luck. I guess the only other solution is to not make the exec calls by making native calls from the java program, but that would be a huge undertaking.
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes, I think you are correct.
    When I do the same with say calc.exe or notepad.exe, I do not get this dos command prompt.
    The command that I am trying to execute here is PCLI.exe (for PVCS). Do you have an idea of how I can deal with this program so that I do not get that annoying comand prompt?
