Annoying Desktop Software system error
Hope someone can help me. I am running Desktop Software 7.1.0.41 and Windows 7. Everytime I open the program, I get a dialog box that won't go away. I close it and it pops right back again and again. Here's what it says:
"Rim.Transcoder.exe - System Error. The program can't start because CoreMultiMedia.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
Admittedly, I have no clue what this supposedly missing file does. But I do know that it definitely IS NOT "missing from (my) computer." It is alive and well at c:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Snapfire Plus\CoreMultimedia.dll. When I right-click this file for Properties, I see that it hasn't been modified since its creation date of 8/4/06 and hasn't been accessed since 4/26/07.
What gives? How do I solve this? Thanks in advance.
Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try doing exactly what the error message instructs:

I suggest this thread:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Good luck!

Blackberry Desktop Software Synchronization Error
Can anyone help me.
I have downloaded Berryberry 7.1 Desktop Manager and I am trying to synchronize my Outlook contacts between my lap top and my mobile. The process is taking about 40 minutes to do and right at the end of the sync I get an error:
CRTranRec:GetLinkedId:INVALID
Linked Record ID
I have uninstalled and reinstalled and have gone through the synchronization twice and now I have three contacts for every one formally, and no appointments in my calendar.
Does anyone have a solution. My mobile phone provider could not help me.Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here is a KB that discusses that error:
Article ID: KB31008 "CRTranRec:: GetLinkedRecordId : Invalid linked record Id" is displayed when synchronizing Contacts with BlackBerry Desktop Software
Hopefully it contains something useful! There also are multiple existing threads on this site that discuss that exact error...your review of those might prove useful, and a search of this site, using the error message, error code, or symptom, should reveal all applicable existing threads to you.
Good luck and let us know!

BlackBerry Desktop Software Uknown Error Reported
This is what happens when i try to sync or configure sync settings on my BlackBerry 9700...
It doesn't really tell me anything so I don't even know where to start looking!!!
HELP ME!Perseverance and an undue amount of time may be the answer. Mine is now working well after I
shut down the computer
re-booted
used Windows uninstall to remove Desktop 6 again. (I had previously uninstalled its predecessor). I took care to tick the box requiring removal of all Blackberry-related files. I did not go through the full Clean Uninstall described elsewhere on this forum because I didn't want to tamper with registry values if it could be avoided
deleted the download
shut down computer again/ re-booted
downloaded the programme again
installed the "fresh" download, this time successfully: no sign of the Intellisync "unknown error"
This was two days ago and I have waited until now before posting to ensure the programme is stable. In the meantime, by way of simple test, I have updated many phone book and diary entries in Outlook 2010, and a few on the Blackberry, and synced perfectly several times, data transferring both ways.
This is on a PC running Windows Vista and a Blackberry Bold 9700. I would recommend uninstalling earlier version of s/w in Windows before even downloading Desktop 6: the installation programme is clearly incapable of carrying out a viable uninstall.
I hope this helps others. Having said that, it's obviously absurd that RIM can expect anyone to take so much time and trouble to make one of the world's leading PDA's run properly with one of the world's leading organiser programmes. If they can't make the programme uninstall, they should at least offer a Readme note on the download explaining how. Think of the thousands of hours wasted already on this issue ... -

Blackberry Desktop Start-Up Error
I am getting the all-too-common .net Runtime 2.0 Error Event ID:5000.
I am running Windows XP SP3, with the latest updates.
I was able to run version 6.0.0 B042 for about one month before the error started.
This error occures with the following versions of Blackberry Desktop software:
Desktop Manager 5.0.1 B84 MultiLanguage
BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0.0 B042 multilanguage
BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0.1 B21
BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0.2 B43
Here is what I have tried:
Installing earlier versions of the desktop software.
Installing later versions of the desktop software.
Each time i attempted to install the earlier/later versions of the software:
Full uninstall of the BlackBerry software.
Reboot.
Uninstall every version of .Net Framework.
Reboot.
Uninstall every version of Visual C++.
Reboot.
Reinstall the .Net Framework versions.
Reboot.
Reinstall the Visual C++ packages.
Reboot.
Reinstall the Blackberry Desktop Software.
Reboot.
Try to start the Blackberry Desktop. ---> Blackberry Desktop software displays error window "BlackBerry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close."
Here is what the event viewer is reporting:
Date: XX-XXX-XXXX Source: .Net Framework Runtime 2.0 Error
Time: XX:XX:XX Category: None
Type: Error Event ID: 5000
User: N/A
Description:
EventType clr20r3, P1 rim.desktop.exe, P2 6.0.2.42, P3 4da50fa5, P4 rim.desktop, P5 6.0.2.42, P6 4da50fa5, P7 13, P8 1f, P9 system.typeinitialization, P10 NIL.
This is getting annoying.
I have tried to change the error handling in the Aspnet.config file, without any change in behavior.
Do I really need to find a five-year-old Treo to have the functionality that I require? Or will BlackBerry pull it's head out of its fourth point of contact and properly debug their software before release?

Start Database giving System Error 5
Hello,
I have installed Oracle Database 10g Express Edition on my Home PC (with a 32-bit Windows Vist Home Operating System with Service Pack 1). I can access the database ok through my web browser, but there is an option to 'Start Database' in Start>All Programs>Oracle Database 10g Express Edition. It brings up a command prompt style window with the following text:
C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleXETNSListener
System error 5 has occurred.
Access is denied.
C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleServiceXE
System error 5 has occurred.
Access is denied.
C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>
Why am I getting these error messages? How can I start the databasewithout these system errors?
Thank you very much!
JonHi,
Sorry no.
But I did find this about XE and Vista
Install on Vista
Regards,
Jari

However, "Starting Up the Database Using SQL Command Line" seems to work fine. -

Cannot Download Desktop Software for PC - 404 Error!
Hi All - I have tried to use the Feedback option for the Web Admin but my emails keep bouncing because the RIM system seems to think my feedback does not fit via email. So, here is the message I was trying to send in to RIM to help get to the bottom of this. Anyone feel free to pipe up and let me know what is going on or offer some suggestions... I'm totally open to anyone's help at this point. Thanks!

Cheers!Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Interesting...well, I am downloading it right now with no 404, which would I think rule out a problem at the RIM webisite end. So, the only thing I can think of is that there is something in your internet routing that is somehow blocking it. Maybe you should start over from this point:
http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
I was also going to comment that RIM does not yet support Desktop Software 7.x, but that seems to have changed sometime today!
Good luck!

Hi there
I've recently upgraded my business partners' outlook from 2007 to 2010. In doing so we've had a corrupt profile which we have had to delete and then replace with a new one. In doing so his outlook started working again but now his blackberry isn't synching the calendar entries.
Here's the basics:
- Bberry model - Bold 9790
- Bberry operating system - Blackberry's latest (7.1 I think)
- Blackberry desktop software 6.1 - this is intentional as we have found in the newer version of hte desktop software that we cannot map our teamsite calendar from outlook and sync the entries
- Outlook version 2010
- Calendars we are trying to sync are a personal one from a pst folder and a teamsite one from sharepoint linked to our microsoft exchange set up.
The error we are getting is a 'connector specific error'
I have worked with him to create the PTtrace.log and tif.log files. I've gotten reams of pages; but the errors on todays date (when the problem began) have come up with error 4238, 113, and 12. We have tried un-installing and re-installing 6.1 as well and no luck. We have re-set the configuration setup and re-mapped folders; chosen the new outlook profile, etc and still keep getting same error.
I'm now starting to think that there is a problem with the mapi profile as a start and wonder if outlook needs to repair itself or whether we are getting the error because of a duplicate entry somewhere (though if you asked me to tell you where from the logs I couldn't identify it).
I'm litterally tearing my hair out because my poor business partner lives and dies by his blackberry. Really want to try to get this resolved; but need some help and suggestions as I've tried most of the main causes and fixes.
Any assistance would really be appreciated so I can put him and myself out of our misery.
Thanks in advance.
CelHi and Welcome to the Community...apologies for the delayed reply...hopefully you already have this resolved, but just in case!
Thank you for the thorough report...that helps tremendously. Sadly, though, none of the errors you listed reveal anything useful when I search the public KBs...perhaps you will be more lucky
http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/microsite.do
Even though it sounds like you may have done all or part of this, I encourage you to research the process in this thread:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Your suspicion about the MAPI Profile may well be warranted, in which case this KB might be useful.
KB02083 How to create a Microsoft Outlook MAPI profile
Good luck and let us know!

Error when trying to configure sync between Outlook 2003 and Blackberry Desktop Software 4.6
I am unable to configure the Blackberry Desktop Software (version 4.6) to sync with my Outlook 2003. I used to have an older version of the desktop software and it worked just fine. I got a new phone and updated the software and am unable to configure the sync. I get the following message when I try to configure it: "Runtime Error: folder is no longer part of the system data source or the folder could not be found."
Please help. I need these to sync.HI and Welcome to the Forums!
I suggest trying a clean DTM uninstall:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
followed by reinstalling from scratch. You should be able to go to the latest v5.0 with Outlook 2003...it's available here:

Palm Desktop software - Fails to open with msg "Error: Failed to open Address Book database"
In July 2009 I dropped my trusty Visor on a tile floor and it stopped working. So, in the meantime I have been using only the Palm Desktop software.
Just yesterday, when I attempted to launch the Palm Desktop software, it failed with the message “Error: Failed to open Address Book database”. I think this error was caused by a very ungraceful shut-down of my Win XP system yesterday.
I really do need to use the Palm Desktop software for my address list, calendar, and memo. The problem is that the error with the Address Book database seems to be preventing the Palm Desktop software from initializing.
I am using Palm Desktop 4.0.1 on Windows XP SP3. I do NOT have an export file of the Palm address book or other databases. However, I do have five levels of backup history on my external Maxgor backup drive.
Specifically, on my current c drive I have files in the directory:
C:\Program Files\Handspring\WR\address
address.bak 5/16/2009 (from last sync before I broke Visor)
address.dat 5/24/2011
Personal.ABA 11/6/2008
Unfiled.ABA 3/28/2008
On my most recent backup of my system, there are the following files:
address.bak 5/16/2009 (from last sync before I broke Visor)
address.dat 5/12/2011
Personal.ABA 11/6/2008
Unfiled.ABA 3/28/2008
I have not listed the four older backup versions.
I haven’t tried any corrective measures yet (I don’t want to make matters worse) and am hoping that someone can guide me along the right path.
Is it possible for me to just rename the “current” address.dat file to something like address.SAV and then copy the Address.dat file file with date of 5/12/2011 into the current directory. Will the software then just use the older version of the data, or must I do something else.
I am grateful for any assistance. Thank you very much.

Post relates to: Visor DeluxeThanks for the speedy response. However, I read the article for which you provided the link, and I hve also read many other articles that I found via search, but I don't think these will help me. All of these articles seem to assume that (1) you have a handheld to which you can sync and thereby rebuild the database on the PC, or (2) you have a backup that you created via the Palm Desktop export function. Unfortunately, I have neither and so I don't think any of these solutions will work for me.
I did read with great interest an article that stated that recent versions of Palm Desktop have a built-in function that will repair a corrupted Datebook database. Will this also fix a corrupted Address Book database which is my problem?
So, I downloaded and attempted to install the latest version of Palm Desktop. I was careful to read the instructions that stated NOT to uninstall my current version of Palm Desktop, but to just install the latest version on top of my current Palm Desktop. However, when I attempted to do the installation, the installer software said it could not install on top of my current software and that I should first uninstall my current software.
I have some questions now:
(1) If I uninstall my current version of Palm Desktop, will this destroy my Address Book, Datebook, and Memo databases ( I don't care about the ToDo database)? If so, what can I do to preserve those databases?
(2) Is there really a function built in the recent versions of Palm Desktop that will fix a corrupted database? Is this an "automatic" function that will detect and fix a broken database or is this something I will have to invoke?
Thanks for your help.

Error loading Blackberry Desktop Software
I have XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP3. I tried installing the newest version of BDM ver. 6.2 which I downloaded from RIM. The received the error while loading: "Balckberry Desktop Software has encountered an error and must close..."
I uninstalled and removed all registry entries and RIM folders and and also used a system cleaner (CCleaner). I reinstalled again and the error still occurs. RIM.destophelper.exe does load to system tray. There are no error codes of any kind associated with this failure to load.
Any help trouble shooting this would be appreciated. Thanks again for the quick reply.
Is the BlackBerry connected the whole time when you're trying to open BlackBerry Desktop Software?
And just to clarify you did perform all these steps when you uninstalled the previous software: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
Because that error will appear if some old DTM files are still present on the computer.

Blackberry Desktop Software Error "Blackberry Desktop Software Has Stopped Working"
Hi everyone,
I’ve had a Blackberry Playbook (PB) for almost a year now. Recently I decided I was going to back my data up, but the Blackberry desktop software I was using was 5.0... Something. So I went to http://uk.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html to update the software. I uninstalled the old one and installed the new one.
When I tried to open the newly installed software I got this error "Blackberry Desktop Software Has Stopped Working." So I did my research and found that this was happening to other people.
These are the methods I used to try to fix the problem.
- Clean Uninstall
- Removing registry
- Deleting research in motion (appdata)
- Restarting my computer about 5 times
I went into event properties this is what i got.

Someboby can help me.
Robert LaflammeHey there
This looks like the error I was getting and I explained in details how I solved it in the following topic:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/ATTENTION-Desktop-Manager-Has-stopped...
Can a forum admin please sticky my topic to help others with this issue or at least make an office topic with the problem and solution?
Anyway, just to summarize the solution, just go to the following path on your blackberry (link it to your PC, select use as USB storage) and go to the following folder:
F:\BlackBerry\system\
You should see a file named "media sync". Rename it to anything else and then create a folder named "media sync".
After doing this, try opening Desktop Manager again and it should work without any errors
