Annoying dialog box

I have inherited a 27'' imac complete with a time capsule, both are working fine. However every time I start my imac I get a dialog box showing the "Time Machine" logo and text indicating that it is searching for MFP-05235842. What is it looking for and how can I delete this annoyance.
Thanks,
John

It sounds like the former user might have had the iMac set up to automatically mount an external hard drive when the Mac starts up.
Check the following:
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
Open Accounts
Click the Login Items tab (next to the Password tab)
Please list every Item and Kind that you see here.

  • Two annoying dialog boxes at startup

    Quick question:
At startup after login, these two dialog boxes appear. For the keychain one, I have run Keychain FirstAid and have searched for this item to no avail. How can I get rid of this dialog box appearing automatically? I don't want to reset my Keychain for obvious reasons. For the coupond one, I have allowed this action in the Firewall settings but it keeps coming up. It is for an internet coupon printing thing I use sometimes.
    Thanks.

  • Annoying dialog box at Startup

I've got a 6100/66, 40 megs RAM, System 7.5.5, DOS card and secondary drive included. Very cool.
On startup, it gets all the way through, then tells me this:
"PC Network Extension: AgentOpen() returned -1"
Hit the Okay button, and it goes away like it should. The PC Setup runs fine, goes to the Windows 3.1 side (fun to point and laugh at) no problem. In short, it causes no trouble with the system at all, apart from the annoyance of seeing it in the first place.
So, does anyone remember far enough back to be able to say what might be causing this, and how I might stop it?
    Thanks

    Hi Brett,
    From:
DOS Compatible Products: Frequently Asked Questions Question 2.
    2. I have a DOS Compatibility Card and am getting an error message at startup: "PC Network Extension: AgentOpen () returned -1." How can I stop this?
Answer: The PC Network Extension lets the DOS Compatibility Card access built-in Ethernet. The error message results when the PC Network Extension is looking for a network that is not present. Usually this is because AppleTalk is off. To eliminate the error at startup, you have three options.
    * Upgrade to version 1.0.7 of the PC Setup software.
    * Use the Chooser to turn AppleTalk on.
    * Drag the PC Networking Extension from the Extensions folder to the Trash (provided that you are not using a PC network)
The PC Network Extension is not required unless you plan on using network services on the DOS Compatibility Card. If you are using the DOS Compatibility Card's networking capabilities, make sure AppleTalk is active.
NOTE: PC Setup software v1.0.7 is not compatible with the DOS Compatibility Card for the Macintosh Quadra 610 or Centris 610.
    Hope that helps,
    Ivan

  • How can I disable "download error" dialog box when saving a complete web page?

Sometimes, when I try to save a web page as type: "Web Page, complete", firefox displays download error dialog box stating a file "could not be saved, because the source file could not be read."
I don't have a problem with firefox couldn't save that file, but I have a problem with firefox displaying that dialog box, because I have to click OK everytime.
Is there a way to disable that annoying dialog box?

I modified the host file mainly to block ads. But that's not the problem. It's OK for me for firefox to not saving some parts of a page (ads usually within a frame). It's my intention to NOT saving those files. I just want to save the main content of a webpage.
But I'm having a problem with firefox displaying the dialog boxes.

  • I've developed the problem that when I click on something I get a dialog box with a mess of stuff such as: Back,re;oad page ,Open in dashboard ,print page, etc. It's quite annoying!

I have a problem that when I click on something I get a dialog box with Back,Reload page, Open in Dashboard,View Source Save page as ETC. I don't get the normal or expected respose to a simple "click". Another problem. For some reason the back and forth arrows it the tool bar of Safari have shifted from the upper left hand cornor to the uuuer rihht hand cornor.

Something is seriously wrong then.  Did you move it?  There are several Library folders.  One of them should be inside your HOME folder.
If WZZZ suggestion does not work, re-install your OS by using Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo.  When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

  • Outlook 2010 Annoying login dialog box keeps popping up

I have a client on Exchange 2010. They're using Outlook 2010. ONE employee keeps getting a popup login screen for some reason. I don't know why but it appears to be tied to the HTTP settings 9n the Microsoft Exchange Proxy Settings section. I did not set
these on the client side but it keeps populating and the authentication is BASIC. This is a desktop computer (does not travel outside the LAN) so I don't need this setup. But when I uncheck the HTTP proxy settings option it keeps coming back.
Why is this happening and how can I turn this off for this user?
Note: it does not affect Outlook's ability to access email. He usually just closes the dialog box but it keeps coming back (and this is the business owner, of course...couldn't happen to a low level worker, you know.)

    Hi,
I have seen this problem on pretty much every SBS2011 deployment I have undertaken (and has only affected 1 or 2 users at each site which I have always thought strange)
Try this from an exchange shell
    [PS]> Get-OutlookAnywhere | Set-OutlookAnywhere -IISAuthenticationMethod NTLM -ClientAuthenticationMethod NTLM

  • Annoying "firmware up to date" dialog boxes appear after restart!!!

I now have three stupid dialog boxes that appear after I restart my computer!!! The first started with a Bluetooth update many moons ago. Now after the "Superdrive update" I have two more that pop-up when my computer restarts!!! >:-( If I wanted to have to click on all these stupid boxes I would buy a Windows computer!!!!
Dialog box #1 reads: "No update's are required. Your Superdrive is up to date. [Quit]
#2 reads: "Your computer's firmware is up-to-date. [Ok]
#3 reads: " Your computer's firmware is up-to-date with version 1.4 of the Macbook EFI Firmware Update. [Ok]

I also have the Superdrive dialog problem.
After studying where it came from, I finally delete the following file and the problem is gone.
    Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.updater.superdrive.plist
I think you may check LaunchAgents folders in different locations to solve your problems.

  • Remote App, Printer properties opens behind redirect dialog box

We noticed an issue in July 2013 with all redirect printers using RemoteApps on Server 2008R2.
When you clicl on File>Print and sleclt properties, the dialog box is opening behind the Windows windows telling you the printer has been redirectd by RDC.  You can see the Printer Preferences and the only way to bring the window the front is
to click on the Window Title bar of the window.
I've seen others posting the same issue, but I haven't seen a resolution.

    Hi,
I had the same problem in both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
    I downloaded the fix KB3036965
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3036965
and installed it on 2 test pc who had the problem. After I Installed the hotfix I worked.
But as Shimon Adimor say’s it is very annoying with the dialog box that appears, that informs you that the printer has been redirected. The KB3036965
does not fix this dialog. So if there is some solution to disable this dialog box it would be nice.
    Thanks

  • My "Open" and "Save" dialog boxes in Logic Pro...

    Hi,
Wondering if you've have had this issue. My Open / Save as well as any Import dialog boxes in Logic Pro have oddly spaced columns. I resize them accordingly (I prefer Column view BTW), get them looking right by holding the "Option" key while resizing to have all columns the same width...you know, the same procedure you'd use in the finder.
Anyway, each time a dialog box appears my "Sidebar" column along the left-hand side is like 5 inches wide, and each column to the right of that is very narrow despite my setting it up the way I'd like it to look during the previous Open/Save/Import.
Is there a preference for this that I'm missing?
Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. I'm running Logic Pro 9.1.5 in 64bit mode (32bit mode also exhibits the same behavior).  I'm running OSX Lion, 10.7.2

I posted a similar post regarding this observation.  It appears that only you and I are the only ones getting this behavior from Logic and Lion.  In all honesty, I don't think anybody cares or no one installed Lion for use with Logic yet.  In either case, it has been widely ignored.
I too tried resizing, but get the same result every time.  Its not just open and save windows, its the same with all windows.  This gets especially annoying when ad    ding samples to EXS24.  Some people have different work arounds for adding samples to most things, such as the browser side window.  Regardless of any workaround, nothing solves the remaining window space problem.  This window bug is something that should not exist within Logic.  It makes Logic look like freeware.
For many, Logic Pro X might be the ultimatum.  It might be time to jump ship.

  • Export Save / Open dialog box appears behind disco screen

    Hi all
Disco 10g Plus, excel, latest Sun java 6.16 jvm
We have an annoying but strange issue with exporting.
A user opens and runs a report ok.
Withing Disco 10 plus they then click on either file-Export-excel or click on the Export Excel icon on disco plus toolbar
Either way the export happens and a dialog box appears with blue progress bar and then this disappears.
And then nothing appears to happen.
However, something actually has happened, behind the disco 10 window the 'File Download' dialog box with 'Do you wish to open or save this file?' appears. Clicking on save saves it to PC and clicking open opens it in Excel which is fine.
I am not sure of this box belongs to excel or internet explorer but does anyone know of any way to have this dialog box appear IN FRONT of the current disco plus window as some of our users think that disco has 'frozen' and thus log support calls.
    thanks in advance,
    dw

    Hi dw
I have heard of folks complaining that exports to Excel hang. I have not had any feedback to say that the dialog box is actually open behind the scenes. This is very interesting news and thanks for reporting it. I will certainly look for this in the future and see if I can find a pattern.
If I may ask, what exact version of Discoverer are you on and what cumulative patch level have you implemented?
Also, what browser are you using and have you tried this in another one?
Have you tried deinstalling Java 6.16 and tested with an older one like 6.11 which I have seen working very well?
As much extra information as you can provide will definitely help and could trigger an idea from someone reading.
    Best wishes

  • Preview and Open dialog box on initial start of program?

Okay, I understand that it might be beneficial when starting Preview that an open dialog box also pops up.  However, I find it VERY annoying that it does it when I double click on a PDF and Preview goes through it's initial startup.  It NEVER did this before...am I missing some setting?
I know it may seem like a small annoyance but, for some reason, it really bugs me.

Thanks.  I guess I wasn't very effective with my search phrases before posting.
It did solve the annoyance but definitely seems like a bug to me.  I will post in feedback to Apple since opening a pdf in preview and then automatically opening an open dialog box has no value.  It also shouldn't be linked to Documents and Data in icloud being checked or not.

  • Autofs.service causing problems with gnome's save dialog boxes

Recently I have been having a problem saving files to disk using the gnome save dialog box when autofs is running. Basically what happens is most of the folders on the right side of the save dialog disappear (see screenshot below) and remaining few become unresponsive when clicked. If I wait a few minutes the folders will eventually appear and work when clicked, but needless to say this is annoying.
I can "fix" this  problem instantly by simply running systemctl stop autofs.service, but this is not a good solution because I like the convenience of mounting my  NFS shares on demand.

  • Snow Leopard sidebar width in open/save dialog boxes

I think I found the answer to the infuriating non adjustable sidebar width in the open/save dialog box.
It requires finding the plist of every program you want to change (I know... annoying)
Close the application if open. Open the plist in Property List Editor (which is the default anyway so just double click) and delete any line which begins NSNavPanelExpanded...
Reopen the application and the sidebar now mirrors the settings in Finder (where the sidebar stays adjusted if you alt+click drag it).
I haven't restarted yet so don't know if it will stick but I don't see why it shouldn't, and I don't know if it will reflect further finder changes to the sidebar width.

In the case of Photoshop it looks like NSNavBrowserPreferedColumnContentWidth also needs to be deleted, or a new value entered.
So it might be different for different programs

  • Open/save dialog boxes disappear after leopard upgrade

hi, since upgrading to leopard, i cant open or save in logic. I can open existing documents from finder and they load ok, and i can create a new document but if i open or save from the file menu, no open/save window appears. The options in the logic drop down menus are grayed out (including quit) as though the dialog box is open somewhere but not visible. if i drag the main window to one side nothing is there and i cant quit unless I force quit the app. i've moved to different spaces but the dialog box isnt anywhere to be seen. Anyone got any ideas? thanks, dren.

This has been sooooooo annoying!! I decided to revert to tiger as I would much prefer to have logic working than the extra features in leopard

  • InDesign "Save As" dialog box for every operation in INDB book file; updating page numbers, etc.

So I haven't used INDB files in awhile in InDesign, and today was the first time I attempted to adjust an old INDB (created originally with CS5).  For every operation of adjusting the book file, such as updating page/section number or adding/removing an INDD file I get a Save As dialog box for each constiuent INDD file.  This is quite annoying since the book has lots of INDDs, and I have to click through the tedious save as with each.  I previously worked with INDBs in CS5, and never encountered this, there was no need to save each INDD in the book just to update the page numbers.  I tried creating a new INDB in CS5.5 thinking that maybe it was because I was working from a file created with an older version of InDesign.  Does anyone know if there is a way to suppress the Save As dialog?  Another thing I noticed that is supremely frustrating is that this new build of InDesign doesn't default to saving the file in its original location, and I have unwittingly ended up saving files in other places, only to later realize it.  I am using InDesign CS5.5 Ver. 7.5.2 on Mac OSX 10.7.3  Any help is greatly appreciated.

It will only happen once (and frankly, what you are doing is a very bad idea).
When you open the old book in CS5, you are converting to the new format. All of the legacy files also need to be converted, even if added to a new book in CS5.5, hence the Save As since ID will not overwrite the old versions until you tell it to (and that's the bad idea). I strongly recommend (though it's too late for any books you've already updated and overwritten) that you either continue to edit in the old version, or that you take the time to open each file in the original version if it's older than CS5, then export to interchange format (.inx or .idml, depending on version), open those files in CS5.5, save with new names so you don't overwrite anything, then add to a new book and proceed.
One of the reasons I recommend this seemingly time-consuming approach is that there are too many reports (another one yesterday) of some sort of problem that pops up late in the editing cycle when converting legacy files to CS5/5.5 by opening them directly and saving. This is a belt and suspenders insurance approach, and is far less labor intensive than starting over, which might end up being your other option down the road if something goes wrong.
