Annoying instant aux channel strip question

Howdy all,
Has anyone else been bugged by the following behavior in MS.
I'm working in a patch, and I have channel strip with verb and input bus 3. I also have a delay channel strip, and I decide to send the delay to the verb by instantiating a send to bus 3.
This works fine, except MS also makes an extra aux channel strip at the concert level with input bus 3. This serves no purpose, and I have to move the to concert level to delete this unwanted channel strip.
Am I missing something here, or is this just way it is?
Thanks for anyones input.

  • Basic Q, Routing all the audio tracks to a bus or aux channel strip ?

I'm a little confused on this issue.
I've been doing separate tracks for the sax solos and vocals using the best parts of several tracks with automation. I've been adding the same effect in each track separately and I know this is not good. I'd like to send all the sax tracks to an aux. strip with an effect and all the vocal tracks to another strip with a different effect but I'm just a little confused about it. I see in the Mixer you can add AUX channels but I'm not sure whether to use stereo or mono for this situation ? It seems like I should use stereo because many effects are stereo.

Ok, select all your vocal tracks in your mixer->channels strips turn grey->now in the third box above the Channelstrip fader select the output to be e.g. Bus 1->Logic will automatically route Bus 1 to Aux 1 if you haven't created Busses in your environment before->insert your fx into the Aux->select all your Sax tracks->route them to Bus 2->insert your fx->done
I guess you shift select from the arrange window for multiple selections in the mixer but I just did them one at a time.
In this situation there appears to be no need to use the add AUX button. In the lower of the two I/O slots I selected Bus1 for the Sax and a new Aux1 track was created. For the Vocal I selected Bus2 and a new Aux2 was created.
---Thank you Sampleconstruct . I'm still in the dark but this was a huge help.

  • More than 8 Aux channel strips?

I'm curious if anyone else is running into this. I', setting up a concert with lots of different guitar patches, and i can't seem to addess more than 8 aux sends. I'm not using more than one or two per patch, but I need more than 8 "aux effects" to exist in the concert. MS allows me to choose busses higher than 8, but no audio appears to flow through them to the newly created channel strips. Busses 1-8 work fine, but not anything higher than 8.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!

I think you only get 8 per channel strip, but you can have up to 32 Aux channels.

  • How do i use a Aux channel with reverb from two different patches

I have a Concert with an Aux channel strip for Reverb and i want two seperate patches to both use Send 1 with different amounts/level of reverb but when i move the fader on the patch and then go to the other patch the fader has moved back to the down position
    Hope this makes sense
P.S i know i can do it with two separate buses but want to keep it tidy
    Thanks

1: select an instrument channel, go the parameter of the channel then change the midi channel to "ALL"
2: insert the Multitimbral sampler of your choice ( RMX, hypersonic or what ever) and load the sounds you want onto them
3: open environment, in the environment parameter it shows AUDIO click hold it and select ALL OBJECT, then go to view and untick "BY TEXT"
4: connect the GM DEVICE to the channel that has the Multitimbral Sampler on it'll ask Do you want to remove the channels port setting? click remove
    thats it
Now go to the arrange window and you can use all the 16 midi channels to control one Multitimbral Sampler
that means midi channel 1 will control what ever sound is loaded in the first slot on the Multitimbral Sampler
lemme know if there was a mistake along the line, i'm a bit tired gotta help out

  • Tuner on the aux channel turns on -- No Sound

Hey There. Science I use Mainstage 2.2 the tuner on the aux channel turns on sometimes, when I change a patch. So there is no sound anymore and I have to turn on and off the tuner to have some sound again. How can I put the tuner away from the aux channel to avoid the problem of turning the tuner of a patch all the time on an off, before there is a sound from the aux channel strip?
Greets and thanks for the answers!

So I figured out a quick fix by putting a direction mixer/mono to stereo plug in last in the channel strip would fix it. That being said, having the ability to pan aux channels independently from the main output would be ideal.  Does anybody know how to do this?

  • Pan not working in aux channel

I have done this many times, but suddenly it's not working!
Created a new Aux channel strip  - stereo, input = bus 8, output = stereo.
Output of two vocal tracks to the aux. When I try to pan the vocal tracks in their own tracks to seperate them, they don't pan, they stay centered. It's working fine in my overheads aux, exact same settings? Is this a bug? What am I missing? (yes the aux track is set to stereo, I keep clicking it on and off like it will make a difference "this" time!)
    thanks.

David here this always works a 100%:
Insert TestOsc on an empty mono/stereo Track choose Sends -> Postpan -> send to AuxBus and then pan appropriate
    or
On a mono/stereo Track output choose an AuxBus and pan the signal
    Good luck!

  • Saved user patch not saving aux send channel strip settings?

    Hi all,
I was reading the 'Using and saving patches" article in the manual and came across this quote:
"patches also save any aux channel sends that are needed to reproduce the complete patch,"
I was extremely excited and tried to create my own patch. My User Patch saves, and the aux send amounts are in the main channel strip, but the actual bus channel strips are not created.
I noticed that other logic patches actually create the bus strips with their predefined settings when you load them, but I can't seem to get my user patches to do this. Am I missing a step when I save my patch?
    Thanks in advance!
    Robert
    P.S. - if it's useful, I am using Logic 10.0.7 on OSX 10.8.5 on a mid-2012 15" MBP Retina

Just thought I might bump this topic since I have the same problem.  Any suggestions on a solution would be greatly appreciated!

  • Channel strip "settings" for aux or main out  ... not showing in Library

    Hi Guys
One of the things I love about the "settings" box at the top of each audio channel is that you can click on it, and then use the Library list on the right of the screen to pick through the settings and even try them out in real time...
I want to do the same thing for some of my Aux channels or even sometimes the Main Out channel, but there doesn't seem to be a way of clicking on the "settings" button for these channels and seeing what's available for them in the Library.
Does anyone know what I'm missing here? At the moment I seem to have to HOLD the settings button, and then choose from the category and then choose the effect. Which is fine if you know what you're looking for, but if you want to just go through various effects and try them while the song plays, this is kind of tedious.
If you can shed light on this, that would be awesome!
    Cheers,
    Mike
PS - 8 days in to my switch from Cubase 4 to Logic 8 and the initial feeling of "what have I done? I feel lost, bring back Cubase" has turned into "Why didn't I do this sooner?!"... Logic is AMAZING! And Cubase now seems so clumsy...

    Hey Jorge,
Thanks for the reply - yep, it's cool to be able to save strip settings for aux strips and for the main out as well, to make "my" sound and keep my songs consistent.
However there are some really great pre-set settings for these strips. They can be accessed the "slow" way by holding the "Setting" box at the top of the strip, and then choosing a category and from there a preset.
But I really want to be able to go through these preset strips quickly by using the Library... you can do this for normal audio channels, and it's great to say be able to click through "bass" presets one after the other while your bass audio track is playing...
But for the aux and settings strips, I can't get the "settings" to show up as a list in the Library...
Does anyone know how this is done?!
    Cheers and thanks,
    Mike

  • Basic questions on channel strips

This part of the question seems only to apply to AUDIO channel strips- Anyone see in the channel strip inspector a place to choose the color as the manual says? I only get the icon and input/output transforms.
Also, anyone know how to change the order that the strips show up in on the right hand side? I'd like to be able to add a channel strip and then change the order of it.
    Thanks!

Several ways: In the Mixer you can click on a track and choose View-Colors or press Option-C. That opens the color panel - pick a color.
In the Arrange view, control-click on a track in the track list, and choose 'Configure Track Header.' Select Track Color Bar at the bottom of that window. You can also select one or more regions, and press Option-C to color them. Then in Arrange -> Region you can choose Channel Strip colors to Regions.
To move the order of tracks, in the Arrange view, move your cursor over a track header until your cursor changes to a hand, then grab the track and move it up or down. That also changes the order in the mixer.

  • CHANNEL STRIP PROBS - ANYONE HELP ?

A new problem has surfaced with my LOGIC 7.2.
Quite randomly when re-opening a song a previously ok channel strip/aux/bus or instrument track will show up almost as blank...its a wierd thing to explain - like the inserts and pan etc are missing !!
There are a few visuals in the channel strip and the image or number will stutter leaving a visual trail when moved or say the slider is pushed up or down...
It's really hard to explain I hope someone may have a clue or experienced the same thing.
If I restart Logic the channel thing may not occur in the same place or at all...
It is quite random - BUT ANNOYING !!
Any help appreciated cos I've had it a bit rough lately - what with my other probs and all.
    Also here's a question for those 'in-the-know'.....
Should I always update software when avalable ??
It seems that things work quite well and sometimes after installing tha latest updates that some problems crop up that were not there before - should I aim to find a working 'happy' system and leave it be ???

  • How do I send a stereo signal to an AUX channel in Logic?

    Hi Peeps,
I'm currently using Logic Studio 8 and I'm getting really annoyed with the fact that when I take a send 'post fader' from a stereo audio channel to a stereo AUX channel, the post fader signal seems to ignore any panning adjustments. Its like the send is only sending a mono image??? For instance, if I pan a synth track hard left I can still hear the wet reverb signal on my AUX track on the right, its annoying! I could always pan the AUX channel left, but obviously I would like to use that AUX channel for effecting numerous tracks, not all of which will be panned hard left!
I dont have this problem in pro-tools as you can choose to send the signal to a mono or stereo bus channel, but I cant find an option for this in Logic for love nor money!
    Help!
    Orbz

    Hi Orbz,
There are 3 Send modes in Logic:
    • Pre Fader (original signal is sent before it reaches the channel strip's fader etc.
    • Post Fader (sent before volume fader adjustments)
    • Post Pan (send before volume fader and Pan/Balance adjustments).
Click and hold on the Send slot in your synth channel strip and select Post Pan fro the drop-down menu.
Funnily enough I've just finished writing a tutorial about this very topic!! It's not published yet, but will appear on the macProVideo.com blog in the coming days...

  • Duplicate Output channel strips

I see a thread about duplicate aux channels appearing. I'm not seeing that on my end, but what I am getting is multiple (and it's more than two now) Output channel strips. Thankfully, they only appear at the concert level, and don't appear more than once in each patch or set. But the behavior is really bizzare, and a little worrisome because i've found that if I try to delete one of them, if I can successfully do it, then the file will become corrupted and will never reopen! When I'm at the concert level, if I adjust any of the controls on one of them, it's adjusted for all of them... very strange indeed.
I've created multiple Concert files, and I see this behavior exhibited in all of them. The more patches I add, the more the number seems to grow. I believe that every time I copy/paste a patch, it adds one, but I'm not sure exactly what the exact criteria are to make this happen. Is anyone else seeing this?
Also, I have two unrelated questions:
    1) There isn't, by any chance, a way of creating alias or shortcut patches, is there? Some way of creating duplicates so I can create multiple sets with some of the same patches (I'd like to create some "Show Setlist" sets, and a main "All Tracks" set, but have some of the same patches in each, that would get modified when I modify any instance).
    2) I'm coming from Jambalaya, a similar, and simpler live host that I would continue to be using today if the developer continued supporting it. One thing that was really nice about that was it had a virtual rack where you could store common instruments and effects. It would be accessible to all "songs" (patches), and would save a major amount of load time. Since every one of my patches contains from 2 - 8 instrument channels, it was really helpful. I don't suppose there is any way to reproduce this functionality in MS? I also use this feature in Digital Performer, but I don't use that as a live host. So far, I've noticed that if you add a channel strip at the concert level, it plays back on all patches without any routing or way of arming it or not, so that won't work for me. I guess this is more a feature request than a question, but I'm new enough to MS that maybe someone has found a way.

I haven't experienced any of the channel strip issues, at the concert level or at patch level. It's easy to copy patches or make aliases. To copy a patch, select a patch, go to edit>copy or command>C. To paste, edit>paste or paste as alias(command>V or option-command>V).

  • Automatic management of Channel Strip Objects...

This is the function that automatically creates mixer objects (i.e. channels, auxes, etc) in Logic when you add tracks. Before I discovered it, Logic 8 drove me nuts trying to outthink me, because I have a very specific pre-configured mixer environment I use (I never use the track mixer view, only the environent view). This is because I have two Mackie controls, and I very much like my mixer set up in blocks of sixteen channels (otherwise the control surfaces become kind of arbitrary). I'm also not a big fan of the track mixer because having all the mixer channels oriented in a continuous horizontal fashion gets really silly when you're doing a 56-channel mix (with 20 or so auxes to the right of that!)
    Oh yes, my issue...
Even with the "Automatic Management of Channel Strip Objects" checkbox unchecked, Logic still insists on creating new aux objects in the environment when I set up a send. This is annoying and confusing, because dry sound gets routed to the main 1-2 bus (and occasionally confusing, because my default mixer is very large, so the new aux gets put somewhere where you don't immeditely see it).
Hence Logic needs a new command:
"I really, really don't want you to automatically create audio objects for me, I was really serious about it when I unchecked the Automatic Management of Channel Strip Objects checkbox, I am smart enough to handle it on my own, if I wasn't I'd use Garageband, or some other app that doesn't have the word Pro in it"
Maybe something a little shorter would suffice... or just make the Automatic Management of Channel Strip Objects checkbox work properly :>)
    Mitchell

well, i work with a static environment layer and the track mixer for years now. this gives me the flexibility i need.
i need the track mixer for the control surface and i like to only see the channels i have in the arrange here. anything else will just waste channels on the control surface.
in addition to this i use a static environment layer for effect returns and stuff like that.
i work with a lot of hardware and this setup of track mixer and environment has been very helpfull when working.
i programmed my control surface so that i can switch between these two with a push of a button.
this is really fast and easy to work with.
maybe this stupid auto toggle back on thing is a bug. i'll writa a bug report and hope they fix it soon.
    thanks anyway

  • Apple midi loops load incorect channel strip

when i preview a midi apple loop in the loop browser it sounds fine, but when i drag it onto an inst. channel it loads up all the wrong channel strip info. it will load the Garage band sampler but the correct samples do not load. I have used Redmatica's EXS manager and the Inst. are connected to the correct samples, and still no luck. even if i go into the EXS24 and try to load the Garage band Inst it does nothing (not even a warning saying it cant find samples) it stays unloaded. this has mainly been the drums from jam pack 2. I have reinstalled them twice. initialized my drive and reinstalled everything .
has anyone experienced something like this?

Good question with a complex answer. Let's say you have three synths you want to layer together, EXS24, ES1 and ES2. On one of those tracks in your arrange window, drop in your midi arrangement, for this example we'll say it's the EXS24. You'll notice a "plug" on the top right corner of the channel strips. Locate the plug on the EXS 24, click + hold and drag this plug to the ES1. Now repeat the process for the ES1 to the ES2. You have now changed all the instruments together, and they will respond to the the midi input from the base synth, i.e. the EXS 24.
To make this easier, it may help you to create a new layer in the environment window and then place the channel strips for those instruments on this layer. This will keep things organized for your workflow, but it's entirely optional. Hope this helps. Check out macprovideo.com for more environment + midi tricks.
