Annoying layer "ghost" when dragging a layer

What is the purpose of this annoying new layer ghost that appears when you drag a layer in Photoshop CS5? It's very irritating, since it doesn't seem to serve an useful purpose, and it makes it difficult to align layers with precise pixel borders. Can I turn it off?

Yes here a a lot of bad visual decisions been made at Apple  within Cocoa. Personally, in most respects things visually are a move backwards, from Carbon. Screen refresh also seems to be poorer, and more clunky.
My personal least favorite visual feature: In Exposé, when you use Show Windows - this ridiculous, thick blue bar with nasty beveled edges appears.  Looks like the result of a high school "Program Your Own Operating system" project.

  • Annoying window behaviour when dragging

Often when dragging a window aside it jumps and stack on top of the most left top window (or so). It seems this happens when dragging a window on top of another window's title but not always. When it does happen it can be reproduced several times in a row but sometimes it doesn't happen at all, hence this behavior is inconsistent. It is also application independent.
Is it possible to get rid of this behaviour?

At least on Windows this depends on the OS setting, and not a JVM setting (at least I'm not aware of a setting which controls window dragging, I only know of one which affects window resizing)

My CS3/PS has started to change the cursor into a line of three VERY small icons when dragged over a picture or menu. Thus it is VERY difficult for instance to drag a layer in the layer list to the wastebasket - the cursor simply is too big for the waistebasket icon. Even all other exact work is impossible.  Of course I have checked all the cursor presets but nothing seems to help. My OS is Windows7.

    Have you tried resetting Preferences?
A logical next step would be to reset your Preferences.
    To reset Preferences:
If Photoshop is already open on your screen, close it (Quit). Then hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and start Photoshop.
A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to delete the existing Preferences file (the "Settings"). Click Yes in the dialog box. The existing Preferences file will be scrapped and a new one will be created.

  • AE CC crash when drag jpg and png files to comp

Hi I have noticed photoshop exports of jpg and png files cause AE CC to crash when drag these files  to comp Same jpg and png exported from CS6 do not cause crash.

What exact version of Photoshop CC are you using? 14.0, 14.1, 14.2?
How are you saving the PNG and JPEG files from Photoshop? File > Save As? Save for Web?
In After Effects preferences > Media & Disk Cache, is the Create Layer Markers from Footage XMP Metadata option enabled? Does the problem go away if you turn this off?
A similar problem recently occurred with files generated from Illustrator CC (17.1):
    http://adobe.ly/1jlIykQ
However, we have no reason to believe the same problem would apply to files generated from Photoshop. I am not able to reproduce your problem with PNG and JPEG files saved from Photoshop CC (14.2), either from Save As or Save for Web. So either the conditions of your problem are more specific, or it is not related to the XMP Metadata problem.

  • Disable info pop-up when dragging layers? (Photoshop CC)

There's a little box that pops up when dragging layers in Photoshop CC that shows the unit info (pixels/inches/etc.) when dragging a layer. I don't need it and I find it distracting. I can't find any options for disabling it. Are there any?

Yes there is, but make a note of this in case you need it enabled in the future. It's a HUD (Heads Up Display) that allows you to see the transformation values in front of you while adjusting without having to glance over to the same values in the Info Panel.
Edit menu > Preferences > Interface > Show Transformation values: Never
    will turn it off.

  • Preview Icons vanishing when dragged into new folder.

When dragging an image file (with a preview icon showing the small representation of that image) is dragged from it's original folder to a new one, the preview disappears and is replaced with a generic "EPS" or "Jpeg" grey icon. Futher, if I get information about the file, the preview picture of the image also shows just a generic file type icon, even though I can see clearly the preview icon. This is so frustrating, as I must then batch process images in photoshop to have a new preview image show up.
To make things even more annoying, the process is inconsistent. If I drag the a eps file from the original folder with the image preview into a new folder, the preview may be missing. If I drag and drag, creating multiple copies of the file in a new folder "hnuewf.eps 1, .2, .3 etc...) almost always one of these attempts will copy correctly, with the preview intact. What the heck is going on!

    Partilly solved by rebuilding permissions....

  • Blurred preview image when dragging playhead in Animation Timeline

    Hi,
when I move the playhead (of the Animation Timeline) by hand back and forth, the image get's blurred untill I stop dragging. This is really annoying since I need to draw and animate some small shapes in pixel perfect manner and can't see the difference between the frames because of the blurred image.
It is not blurred when I use the "Go to Next Frame" buttons in the timeline window, but this is cumbersome as I have to quickly compare frames by going back and forth.
I understand that PS probably gives me a compressed version of the images so it can actually play the animation fast, but I am talking about a hand full of frames in low resolution (1000x1000) on a Macbook Pro Retina with 16 GB RAM!
My Performance setting are all up (90% RAM allocated to PS, enough free space on my SSD Hard Drive). I also tried different settings for the History and Cache.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!
    Marek

OK, I found out the reason I wasn't hearing the sound when dragging the playhead was due to the fact that in the properties for the sound I had the Sync set
to Event, but I needed to set it to Stream.  Then it works fine!

  • "cgpdftops quit unexpectedly" when drag-and-drop/batch printing in Yosemite

I have an annoying little frustration when printing certain PDF documents in Yosemite. It happens when I drag and drop documents from Finder onto an installed printer--i.e., dragging the document file onto the printer icon that has been copied to the desktop (essentially batch printing). Whenever this happens, I get a "Stopped - 'Filter' failed" error message, along with a "cgpdftops quit unexpectedly" lengthy problem report. After tinkering around for a while, I discovered that this only happens when the document is in landscape mode--if I drag and drop a document in portrait mode, it prints just fine this way. Furthermore, if I actually open the PDF document in Adobe Reader--even the landscape ones--I can print them all perfectly fine that way. It ONLY happens on LANDSCAPE documents when using the drag-and-drop print method. VERY STRANGE!
A little background--I found this out when one of my users was attempting to do this with her newly-upgraded iMac and started receiving this message. She does a lot of batch printing because of the number of files she has to routinely deal with, and this saves her a lot of time over opening each file individually. She says she never had an issue with this when she was on Mavericks, and it only started when she upgraded to Yosemite. I ended up trying this on my own Macbook Pro running Yosemite and was able to replicate the problem on it. I've also replicated the problem on more than one printer of different brands, so I can eliminate that being the source. My user ends up sending the files to her coworker, who is running Mavericks, and is able to batch print the files successfully.
I have been able to whittle it down to the issue simply being printing any PDF file in landscape mode to any printer from any Mac running Yosemite using the drag-and-drop/batch printing method. Numerous Google searches have gotten me nowhere with this. Some point to similar issues which throw this error message, but none specifically point to this particular issue. Certainly I can't be the only person who has tried this...
Does anyone have any ideas?? I'm all out...

How much storage space is left on the boot drive of the Yosemite iMac where the CUPS cgpdftops filter croaks? Are the printer drivers for the problematic printers current for Yosemite. Have you removed and reinstalled current printer drivers for the associated printers?

  • Containing Folder Opens When Dragging Photos?

When I drag photos onto my desktop or into iMessage, a folder will open showing the contents of the folder the said photo is in. (Does that make sense?) Anyways, it's never done this before, and it's getting really annoying. Especially when I have to use multiple photos.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening or how to turn it off? Thanks in advanced.
    -Angelique

We may have a terminology issue here
The window on the left the the source pane - the source pane contains folder if they exist and albums and keepsakes (especial kinds of albums)
Photos go into albums - albums may then be placed in folders - the photos for keepsakes are in albums - not in folders
To add photos to a keepsake albums drag them from an event in the library on the right to the keepsake album on the left

  • When dragging mail to a new folder in Mail, the item sticks to my cursor and won't let go.

I like to keep certain emails organized in folders. When dragging my mail today, the envelope icon on the cursor stuck to it, would not release to the selected folder and would not move the item. In the menu pull down, I could access an option under Message saying Move to (folder) again. Force Quitting helps, but after relaunching, the behavior recurs if I try to drag and drop. The envelope icon remains stuck to the cursor, even if I go to another application. It doesn't resolve until I Force Quit again.

Update: same thing was happening with Safari 6.1.1 when I tried to drag a URL from toolbar so could save a Webloc. Then I restarted my Mac and both problems went away. Sure hope it's permanent!

  • Why, since CS6 does DW now use ABSOLUTE image paths when dragging images into Design View from a folder in Finder?!

While I am grateful the previous issue I had with not being able to drag files into design view at all (in CC and CC2014) was resolved.
Guys (Adobe), seriously, if you're going to change the functioning of something that used to work just fine, at least supply a way for a user to revert to the old way... I absolutely loathe that I need a legacy version of DW to continue with my current workflow. Please put it back to the way it was, or at least allow a user to chose between the two behaviours.
If there is a way to do this, without using the Site Manager (which still doesn't work from Finder even with relative to document selected), I would appreciate any guidance.
As for using the Site Manager (before some smart guy suggests that I just use that) I do not wish to navigate to and create up to 20 "sites" a week and wait for DW to cache them all, when I am already in the folder with the image assets in Finder.
Also before someone pipes up and says: "You shouldn't be diving sites in design view anyway", I don't... I develop many, many newsletters every week and the folder structure is such that navigation to the actual image folder using the Site Manager would be painful at best.
I don't really like having to and replace all instances of "file:///Users/me/Work/company/Mailers/Year/wk14/mailer/dev/img/prod5.jpg". It is horrendously wasteful, time-wise.
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies

Sorry Murray, DW used to have an idea, my point is that since CS6 its developed a case of Amnesia.
The "elements" are in the "root" folder as follows:
    newslettername.htm
    img
         imagename.jpg
So the relative path would be <img src"img/imagename.jpg" />
    However since the change: <img src"file:///Users/me/work/Company/year/week/campaign/img/imagename.jpg" />
Which is completely useless and needs to be corrected before I upload the html anywhere.
As for using the site directory, I did answer that in my initial post. I use a laptop, I really don't want a site manager taking half my screen just so I can see the folder structure and navigate with that, especially since I am already at the files I need in Finder.
Again, this is something that used to work just fine in previous iterations of DW, so I don't believe Adobe is incapable of fixing it nor am I being unreasonable asking for a choice for those that may find the local absolute paths useful in some way. All I want is to be able to chose not to use absolute paths when dragging from Finder.

  • Screen flicker when dragging documents

Does anyone experince screen flicker when dragging files from the Finder to the Desktop?
Here's a short video showing the problem.

I am running Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8 (12A206j)) and just started to experience similar issues (see image below)  When scrolling up or down a webpage.  It happens randomly, and there are only a few applications open (Photoshop, Pages Safari). I have reset PRAM, but am not holding my breath on that...

  • Scroll bar does not slide when dragged using curser in word

I need answers to two questions.
    1.   How to maximise a word document to full window size.
    2.   Why the side scroll bar of a document does not slide when dragged.
    3.   Am very  used to the "delete", "page up and page down" keys and cant find them on keyboard.
    Thanks.

What you can try if the above doesn't work, is deleting the scroll bar from your Data List, and then dropping it back in from the Library. The act of re-adding the scrollbar may get you the desired behavior.
If that doesn't work, you will probably need to post your project so we can take a look.

  • How to preserve size when dragging image into another image?

When dragging a 5x4in photo into a blank 11x8.5in image, the 5x4 is shrunk more than 50 percent.  Any fix for this?

  • No display when dragging regions

normally, when dragging audio and midi regions in the arrangement window, a transparent copy of the selected region appears right when you left click and hold, and this copy follows the mouse icon so you can see exactly where you're moving it before you let go of the left click.
my copy isnt showing up at all, so when click, hold, and drag, i don't see anything except the mouse icon. so i don't know where i'm dragging the regions to until after it's there. i must have accidentally turned the display off somehow. how do i fix this?

    Greetings Troy,
Are you getting the startup chime *bong* and / or do you feel air coming out the ventalation port so you know it is powering on at all?
Reset the SMC and then test: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Reset the PRAM and then test: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html
Remove any RAM that you may have installed after you bought the computer and put in the original memory (if applicable) and test.
Try a different wall outlet for the computer, one that is currently working fine for another electrical device.
If the issue persists after you follow the above steps, you may wish to make an appointment with a Mac Genius at an Apple store, contact AppleCare via phone, or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance.
    Best of luck to you.
