Annoying popups

Recently my computer has been alloying popups through.  Everytime I open websites the popup opens immediately after that.  Even when I look at my email, they open.  I have set the the popup blocker to high and they still come through.  I tried the Verizon system status to check my internet and it says it needs to be fixed but when I click on the link it tells me that it is not available.  I have Norton antivirus and it says all is OK with my computer.  Where is my problem and how do I fix it?  I'm not sure if I have a virus or not.  HELP!!

Most likely you are being hit by some nasty spyware/malware.  Annoying and plagues everyone who uses the internet, just some are extremely more annoying than others.  My best suggestion is to use the free versions of adaware and spyboy search and destroy.  They specifically target these programs and hopefully can clear out most of the garbage bogging down your machine.

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html -- Spybot
Both are free, though they ask to donate or buy another version, but have won numerous awards and have been proven to both be excellent at finding this stuff that weasels its way onto your machine just to annoy you to wits end.
Try them out and let me know how it goes, make sure to check for updates if you install them.

  • Anyone besides me get an annoying popup that cannot be deleted/closed reading:  FaceTime Password Please enter your password for "my e-mail account name" Never used FaceTime.

    Dear Community,
    Anyone besides me get an annoying popup that cannot be deleted/closed reading:
    FaceTime Password
    Please enter your password for "my e-mail account name"
    It happened to me today for the first time since upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.3, no "stop lights" in the title bar of the popup, in fact nothing at all.
     I've never established a FaceTime account. So I tried to delete FaceTime from the Applications folder on the "system" disk thinking this may eliminate the popup. Mavericks informed me "Cannot delete FaceTime as it is used by the operating system.
    Is this a MAC virus? Or is this an example user community alpha/beta testing that Apple just announced?
    TIA,
    GonzoBernelli

    That being the case, why then did the FaceTime popup even appear in the first place?
    It's not clear to me what it is. If it occurs again, please take a screenshot of the popup and post it in a reply.
    To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse button. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot on your Desktop.
    If you can't find it on your Desktop look in your Documents or Downloads folder.
    When you post your response, click the "camera" icon above the text field:
    This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button.
    The screenshot attachment option for this support site appears only on computers - not on iPads.
    ⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the frontmost window.
    ⌘ Shift 3 captures the entire screen.
    Drag the screenshot to the Trash after you post your reply.

  • I am getting spam to call someone for a virus alert and to purchase MacKeeper. How can I get rid of these annoying popups?

    Hi All:
    Which virus control software or malware product(s) or other strategies are suggested to install on my MacBook Pro (Mavericks OSX 10.9) to eliminate annoying popups and spam?

    That is spam. Ignore it.

    If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Tool.
    Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.

    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
         is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that

    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
        your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a

    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware

    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.

  • How do I get rid of annoying popups in Safari?

    All of the sudden I started getting annoying popups in Safari.  When I close them, they reopen a short time later.  I have popups blocked in my preferences.  Please help.  It's driving me crazy.

    Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

I tried for hours to get rid of these and also have asked questions with no answers.....I guess if you people cant help I'll have to resort to making GOOGLE CHROME my default browser....thats how bad the popups are!

  • Annoying popups constantly asking me to download things -help

    I've used i-antivirus and deleted infected files. And yet, everytime I use firefox, annoying popups emerge when I click on a website (say, BBC.com or Netflix.com), smaller than the main windown, usually asking me to download something, such as "flash player". I've investigated my flash version and I'm up to date. It's clearly malware, because it also asks me to download various other things. It is a recent phenomenon, within the past few months. I've set my browser preferences to block popups, and these popups still keep coming - in spite of preferences being set to block popups.
    I'm on the verge of switching to Safari or another web browser, even though I've loved Firefox. It's because I can't find any support on the internet that can resolve this popup issue once and for all. Please help, I do not want to have to stop using Firefox.

    I'm still getting all these annoying popups windows, although I followed every solution suggested(safari extensions,block the pop ups) it's really disturbing please help

    There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
    You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
    Back up all data before making any changes.
    One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
    If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
    Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
    Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
    In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
    Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
              Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
              Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Tecra M5 - Annoying popup messages when fails automatic BT connection to headphones

    Hi,
    I've been using my Sony Bluetooth headphones at work with my Tecra M5 notebook lately and there's an annoying bunch of message that keeps popping up.
    In the bluetooth settings, I've ticked the 'Automatic connection function will be validated' checkbox. This causes the headphones to connect automatically and it works a treat.
    But, when I bring my laptop home I no longer have my headphones with me and roughly every 5 minutes my laptop keep displaying these annoying popup messages in the bottom right corner of my screen saying the 'automatic connection failed, please ensure your bluetooth device is powered up etc...'.
    Sometimes it gives me a prompt in the bottom right corner of the screen asking me if i'd like to disable the 'automatic connection' feature for the headphones.
    Is it possible to disable these annoying popup messages when my headphones aren't detected, without having to disable the 'automatic connection' option? I'd still like to leave the 'automatic connection' feature enabled so when i return to work and turn on my headphones again, it will still connect automatically.
    But when I go home, i'd like to still be able to do stuff on my laptop without contstantly being bothered by these popup messsages. If there's some sort of registry setting or something to turn them off, that'd be great.
    I've downloaded and installed the Blueooth Stack & Driver Version 6.40
    Cheers

    Toshiba provided me a beta version of the next Bluetooth stack. It has the option which you are looking for. Just disable the setting in
    "Bluetooth Settings->Bluetooth->Options->Audio ->Display message when device is connected."
    So just wait until this version is avaiable for download.

  • IOS 7 Annoying Popup Message

    Need help here.
    My iOS 7 on my iPad 3 always keeps showing this annoying popup window to "Connect to iTunes to Use Push Notifications" for all non-Apple apps I have. My settings have already preset to have push notifications for all my apps. So is this a bug or something? Looks like it.
    Sometimes this popup keeps appearing persistently even after u close the previous one. So yea.

    Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • How do I remove annoying popups on my MacBook Air?

    Whenever I open Firefox and begin opening windows and just in general, go on the internet, annoying/suspicious adware popups appear. Usually it is the same one that comes in a blinking box and says you got a prize, open! (something annoying like that). My Mac has Adblock Lite on, and in my computers system preferences I put on the Firewall. Why do I seem to get all these annoying ads and what do I do to remove them? I don't trust anything I search for online. Please help. Thank you!

  • Annoying popup in Access Restrictions

    I just installed my new E4200, and am setting the Access Restrictions.  Is there anyway to block the popup window that displays every time I enter the form or save the settings?
    I'm using IE9 and have tried adjusting the Popup Blocker, but to no avail.
    Chuck

    I have no idea what the reasoning was during the development of this page, but from a user's standpoint, I believe that displaying a popup this frequently is annoying.  As a software engineer with over 30 years experience, I'm a firm believer that the user's point of view should be considered when developing an application.  Therefore, I would never subject a user to this barrage of popups.
    If there is a method for submitting change requests, please let me know.

  • How to remove annoying POPUPS ON STARTUP C:\Windows\System32\igfxtray.exe

    Hi -
    After I on intel.com tried to upgrade my graphic driver Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family my screen at startup shows a popup-box with the text:
    C:\Windows\System32\igfxtray.exe
    I am asked to "Run" or "Cancel" but no matter what I choose the exact same popup is shown on startup again and I have to Click 3 times on Cancel to get the box disappear - It doesnt seem to influence on my use of the laptop but its a little annoying that its shows up.
    On windows.com help forum I have followed some suggestions without help except the suggestion on open Regedit because many have told med not to mess around in the Regedit
    I have with no succes asked this question on a forum within intel.com
    Has anyone a suggestion what to do?
    Thanks in Advance
    DonOlesen

    Hi
    The igfxtray.exe seems to belongs to Intel driver and this file is a part of quick access software to the control panel via a System Tray icon for graphics based upon the Intel.
    Usually you should see a small Intel display icon in the task bar in the right lower corner.
    The igfxtray.exe controls this.
    So you can also disable this in msconfig.
    In search type msconfig. Then choose StarUp tab and choose remove the mark from the entry containing the igfxtray.exe
    Now save the changes and reboot the unit
    That should disable this popup.

  • Annoying popup windows during exec()

    I am executing couple of system commands
    in Windows using exec() calls from a signed applet.
    Though the functionality works, when the command
    gets executed, an empty DOS window pops up and disappers.
    Is there a way to hide the popup window or make it not
    to show up?
    Here is an example of my code. "dir" will be replaced with
    some actual useful commands.
    String command = "cmd /c pushd c:\\test && dir -s";
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
    Thanks in advance.

    For everyone that keeps asking how to NOT have a dos window pop up - here is the c++ code from a program I wrote years ago. It lets you spawn a dos process without a dos window. It should be a simple matter to port this to a .dll that you can use from java.
    int CYourClass::Spawn( int nMode, char * cmdproc, char * buff )
    STARTUPINFO         si = {0};
    PROCESS_INFORMATION pi = {0};
    si.cb = sizeof( STARTUPINFO );
    si.lpReserved = NULL;
    si.lpReserved2 = NULL;
    si.cbReserved2 = 0;
    si.lpDesktop = NULL;
    si.dwFlags = STARTF_USESHOWWINDOW;
    si.wShowWindow = SW_HIDE;
    BOOL CreateProcessStatus;
    ULONG dosretval;
    DWORD retval;
    MSG msg;
    CBuildApp* pApp = (CBuildApp*)AfxGetApp();
    _doserrno = errno = 0; // set to zero first so we can see if we go wrong somewhere
    CreateProcessStatus = CreateProcess( cmdproc, buff, NULL, NULL, TRUE, NORMAL_PRIORITY_CLASS, NULL, NULL, &si, &pi );
    dosretval = GetLastError();
      if  (!CreateProcessStatus)
        return -1;
      if ( nMode == _P_WAIT ) /* SYNCHRONOUS */
        WaitForSingleObject( pi.hProcess, (DWORD)(-1L) );
        GetExitCodeProcess( pi.hProcess, &retval );
        CloseHandle(pi.hProcess);
            // so the system doesnt appear to freeze
            while (::PeekMessage(&msg, NULL, 0, 0, PM_REMOVE))
              if (msg.message == MM_STOP)
                  pApp->bBusy = FALSE;
                  pApp->bStopProcess = TRUE;
                  break;
                    if (!AfxGetApp()->PreTranslateMessage(&msg))
                       ::TranslateMessage(&msg);
                       ::DispatchMessage(&msg);
             AfxGetApp()->OnIdle(0);   // updates user interface
             AfxGetApp()->OnIdle(1);   // frees temporary objects
