Annoying Safari clipboard behaviour

Hi guys,
I'm working a lot between FTP, HTTP & SSH which means that I am copying and pasting domains & parts of URLs in and out of safari very frequently.  There is a very annoying situation arising when I select xxx.com in the safari address bar and it nearly always prepends http://.  Anybody doing similar stuff can probably appreciate how annoying it is to paste a long domain into the terminal only to have to hit the left-arrow back 20 characters to delete the http:// part
Any suggestions?

So I called AppleCare today and apparently this is (*sigh*) 'expected behaviour' so they didn't help any further.  It sounded like a call was made to their T2 as I was on hold a good while.
This must surely be a prefence somewhere and not hard-coded into safari.  I can't be the only person who expects what you highlight to be what is copied.

  • Annoying Finder window behaviour

I find the behaviour of the new Finder windows when in cover flow a bit annoying. When I resize the window to see a longer list of the files the cover flow part of the window is resized rather than the list. This is despite the fact that I can increase the size of the cover flow area using it's resize handle. Instead I have to resize the window to make it larger and then resize the cover flow area to make it smaller again so that I can see a longer list.

Well it doesn't hurt to call Apple to see if they can figure it out. If you bought AppleCare or have had it for 3 months or less you can call, the number is: 800-275-2273. You get 3 months of free phone support under the standard warranty, the machine is covered for 1 year. If you have AppleCare you have 2 additional years of warranty including telephone support for the full length of the warranty.
    Let us know what happens.

  • Annoying Safari problem after Mountain Lion update...

I've updated my Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion OS X a while ago and now use Safari 6.0 as my main browser. The zoom button (green button with the plus sign) on the top left corner doesn't seem to be working properly, though. Everytime I click on it, the browser's window immediately drops to the bottom of the screen. Might be just a problem with the settings...I've resetted the browser more than twice but the same annoying problem persists. Please help! Thanks.

my understanding of the green + is : it is a toggle between the OS X default windows view for the application ( in this case Safari) and the users settings for the window. What probably happened some time when visiting a web page the web page resized your Safari window to be small and at the bottom of the screen. Hit the green + again and it should be a better viewable window.
When the window is small and at the bottom move it up where you want it and make it the size that you want. Then the Green + will toggle between that view and the default view.

  • Strange Safari Omnibox behaviour - Automatically opens links and searches

Okay, this has been bugging me for a while, but I haven't bothered looking for a fix until today.
Basically, I'll open a new tab in Safari and start typing my search query or URL and after entering a few characters, Safari will automatically go to a link or perform a Google search without me hitting enter, often going to the wrong page (like a bookmark or page in the history). I can't seem to replicate this behaviour on demand, but it happens a couple of times each day.
Sometimes, I'll type a few characters, see the result I want in the history list, and as I scroll down on my trackpad, one of the links above the link that I want to click on will open as I hover over it. My trackpad is set to register a click with the button, not a tap, so it's not like I'm accidentally tapping the links.
Am I mistaking some feature for a bug? Does anyone else ever see this? Am I losing my sanity?
PS. Been having this issue since, I don't know, probably around the time Safari got released with an omnibar. I tried searching on Google and on the discussions here, but I don't exactly know what to look for so I didn't find anything.
    Edit: Typo.

I'm pretty sure it has something with fonts.
He's has a wild font on there. It looks exactly like the font
that is showing up in the three examples you linked. It looks
kinda like a Eurostyle type font, and very close to Rimouski.
But he needs to visually check this with his Font Book
to see which font it is.
Has he in any way taken out fonts in his System Folder???
This would cause kernel panics . . .
He can check his HD status by launching Disk Utility from his HD>Applications>Utilities folder. Ask him to click on the HD icon.
Down at the bottom of the DU pane, it should have the SMART status
of his HD. Most likely, it will say "Verified."
If not, your fears for his computer failing have been confirmed.
Did he run "repair permissions" after the update???
If not have him run section A from Trav's tips below:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=971817
From what you've told us so far, this isn't a HD failing.
    It's a permissions issue, and/or a font issue.
At least in my humble opinion.

  • Annoying Safari keychain prompt

Recently, I re-installed OS X on my eMac. Ever since, whenever I use the Safari web browser on certain pages, it pops up a window called Unlock Keychain, which shows: "Please enter your keychain password. Safari wants to use keychain 'unlock'."
How do I eliminate this annoying problem?

Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left. Delete your AppleID keychain. Relaunch Safari. Try logging in. If you still can't login to AD, delete the "Safari Forms Autofill" keychain. Relaunch Safari and try logging in again.

  • Extremely annoying LabVIEW IDE behaviour

I have been experiencing extremely annoying behaviour from the LV IDE for a few weeks/months now.
When loading a project or a file from a peoject it happens quite often that the search window for sub-VIs is visible and then a "resolve conflicts" window pops up.  Oddly enough I cannot use either window as they seem to have a love/hate relationship going, blocking each other while they're both vying for my attention.  This locks up the entire IDE UI and I can only rescue my working day by utilising the all-powerful "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" to end the LabVIEW process.  Needless to say this can be rather annoying when I'm actually performing measurements int he background (which keep running since it's only the inputs which are blocked.  This kind of thing with dialogs popping up at weird times seems to becoming rather frequent.
Only the last week I have been unendlessly frustrated by a window popping up while I am trying to perform a "Save As" function from an existing class member VI.  The pop-up causes the entire filename I am currently typing in to be selected.  My next keypress then replaces the entire filename resulting in the file being saved under a very weird and unintuitive name if I don't realise this in time.  Funnily enough I have found out that a quick Crtl-Z will actually undo the change.....
All in all I just feel like ranting to prevent me from raging.  These things are really bogging down my day-to-day progress.  It's freaking me out.
Say hello to my little friend.
    RFC 2323 FHE-Compliant

It frustrated me so much that I ended up contacting NI Support as I assumed it was a LabVIEW bug. For me, the solution was to install a newer version of the TSVN toolkit and I now use it without any problems.
This was the response from NI:
I've done some initial resource and found some relevant resources of this issue happening to others, one main instance on our public forums.
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/LV2013-hangs-on-Resolve-Load-Conflict-Dialog/td-p/2657675
Another discussed internally, however both reaching the same conclusion.
It seems that customers using TSVN as their source code control are often running into this issue, are you running TSVN within your company?
It is suggested that an upgrade to TSVN 1.8 resolves the issue. Specifically the beta, 1.8.1.7
    http://www.viewpointusa.com/product/ni-labview-toolkits/tsvn-toolkit/
If the above is applicable, this may resolve the issue, however I have not replicated or tested this issue myself so I can't speak from experience here.
Anyway, this fixed it for me so check which version you had and see if a newer version helps - their website now lists Version 1.8.2.22 so that probably includes the fix as well.

  • Annoying Safari "problem"... a tricky one that has confounded others

OK, so a confession...I prefer the world of Windows to the Mac environment. Simply because it's....simple. The Mac life is just too tricky/complicated (take for example, how hard it is to ever find a picture in iPhoto, compared the simplicity of storing pics in a folder!). I digress. I use a Mac because I love the hardware and some of the beauty. But I have one snare in Safari that drives me nuts.
If I have used Google, searched on something, clicked on a link or two, and then go to edit my search....the search line automatically reverts to the previous search. You can imagine how annoying this is if the previous search was very different, and all I wanted to do was correct some spelling or something.
    Funky, no?

Yup, I posted on this issue yesterday. No responses as yet. Googling it ( ! ) reveals a few other people experiencing the same thing. It can be a royal pain the backside, can't it? I'm here to sympathise only, I'm afraid.
    Any ideas gratefully received, readers.

  • Annoying Safari behavior when I click show password in preferences and no favicon support

An hour ago I decided to switch to Safari 6.0.2 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 from Google Chrome and here I am with two issues.
    Issue 1:
Visiting preferences I eventually went to Password Tab as shown in screenshot below. As I checked show password option all of a sudden this pop up asking for permission :"safari wants to use your confidential information stored in your keychain."
As I have about 100 websites passwords stored in my keychain, this pop up keeps coming one by one asking for permission for each and every site. And until I select any of 3 options I can not do any activity. I do not want to click around 100 times on Always Allow or any of other 2 options. This behavior is completely nuisance to me. Any suggestion on how to get rid of this? Is this a bug in Safari? Should I report it to Apple?
    Issue 2:
I figured out that Safari does not support favicons too, which is, in my opinion very efficient way to manage bookmark on Bookmark bar as bookmarks are easily searchable. I visited few questions regarding Favicons and all says NO support for Safari but since they are quite a few months older now I am including it here, with hope, if any solution is known to anyone.
Any suggestion or assistance will be helpful for any of the issue.
Due to these two issues I am forced to switch back to chrome within an hour. :-(
I have also posted my question on StackOveflow website superuser.
One small suggestion: UI and formatting on this discussion.apple.com seems very old and painful now. Stackoverflow offers excellent in this area. Kindly try to renovate this site with rich and easy features.

If you saved the passwords in another browser, then Safari is not automatically authorized to access them, nor is any other application. That's the whole point of the keychain. You should only get the prompt once for each password.

  • Osx Lion and above.. weird annoying jump back behaviour in column finder

When navigating through the finder in column view it will suddenly jump back to a higher directory.
This is while viewing a network share from a NAS (InforTrend EosNAS).
Happens much more with an SMB connection over an AFP connection but still happens.
Anyone else having this problem? I can get it to happen on multiple machines running 10.7.5 and 10.8.2. All connected to the same server.
I am NOT deleting any files. Although it mostly happens when I view a file. When I go back to the finder it has jumped back several directorys so have to renavigate through to the directoty I want.
Something to do with Favorites perhaps??
    Very annoying...
    Grant

After trying many different solutions we haven't had this problem for a week or so.
    I did this:
Go to Finder Preferences and turn "Spring-loaded folders and windows" off.
Also make sure that your server has a valid gateway setup in it's network settings.
Ours didn't (it's a NAS running embedded Linux) and I fixed it at the same time as we changed the "Spring-loaded..." setting.
So not sure which of the two fixed the problem.

  • Safari Odd Behaviour help...!

Of late, Safari (3.0.4) is doing some strange things occasionally... as I type now there is no scroll bar down the right hand side which has happened on more than a few occasions, I have to quit out of Safari then go back in to make it reappear. Also, when visiting a few websites such as http://uk.gamespot.com/ the page starts loading then nothing, i'm just left with a blank screen. Anybody else know anything about these points?

I tried logging into another of my accounts and have discovered that all is well. I looks like I have some sort of corruption in my account. Now I have to find it

  • Anybody have an actual fix for the annoying Safari crashing/closing issue?

Have the problem on both my iPad 1 and 3. Definetly starte with the latest IOS update. Have tried everything people say to try - including Apple. Does anybody know if Apple has an actual fix out for this issue? I can't even browse on the iPad which pretty much makes it a useless device. Guess I'm starting to look forward to the Windows tablets coming out this fall. I bet they'll be able to surf the web. And that is all I want.

I've started having this issue too on my iPad 2. I checked through the diagnostics & usage tab on System Settings (for the 25 seconds it remained open) and found a slew of LowMemory-[INSERT DATE TIME].plist in there.
It seems the iPad runs out of memory and bombs what ever application it wants. This has only started in the past 24 hours with me which coincides with me finally updating to iOS 5.1.1
I have done a full reset, reinstall and even a complete reformat / restore back to factory settings and have had no joy.
For my sins I'm going to the "Genius" bar on Thursday to see what can be done, but I suspect its going to be a hiding to nothing. I'll report back either here or in the thread I'm going to create on the off chance someone from Apple actually has an answer / checks this place out.

  • Safari corrupts filenames of downloads. Help me?

Safari alters filenames when I download certain files. It has this unwelcome habit of appending .txt to the names of these files.
I use the Mac to download a lot of files for transfer to my PC. Whenever the filename ends in .rar, .ace, or .7z (and maybe others) the additional extension, .txt is appended.
Naturally, it's necessary that I remove this addition. To add insult to injury, OSX tosses up a dialog asking for a decision as to whether I really want to use the original extension or leave .txt in place.
I would like to stop the original change and I would also like to stop OSX from throwing up this annoying dialog.
Any ideas? There just must be a fix for both these actions. If I have to resort to the use of the console, please provide full info as I am unfamiliar with the console.

    PMG5 2x2.5 +30 Cinema   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

One solution in Safari appears to be to right-click (control-click?) on a link to a file then choose 'download linked file'.
Unfortunately, this often results in a download folder full of .html files because there's often a convoluted path through many servers to get access to the wanted file. This is especially evident when seeking files to use on a Winbox.
It's still easier to remove the unwanted extension after the fact. Or use Firefox.
Because I need to grab a lot of compressed Windows file packages using my Mac, Safari is becoming a huge pain in the neck.
A search of Apple/Support/Discussions/Safari reveals that thousands of users are being annoyed with this behaviour. I think I'll have to use Apple's feedback system to complain about this, add my whinge to the list.
You know, it would make some sense for Safari to add an extension if the function was used properly. But it seems that Safari has this list of registered file types and if the file of interest is not in it's list, Safari makes a guess and adds a random value. Safari's default should be that if a filetype is not recognised, to take no action. Absolutely logical, but seemingly, not to Apple's devs.

  • Safari show all tabs doesn't work all the time

It is annoying: safari show all tabs doesn't work all the time. The little icon to the right of the "New Tab" area sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. The Shift Command Back-slash, sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. I find no rhyme nor reason for this. I have a MacBook Pro, Mountain Lion, the latest updates. It doesn't matter if I am in Full Screen or not.
I am quite confused regarding this.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type of copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, empty the cache more often from your keyboard.
    Command + Option + E

  • Safari - say "no" to new tabs and new windows

i expect this has been raised many times and if this is the case then let this be another vote in returning safari browse behaviour back to what it once was.
After performing a search a results page is presented.  Clicking on any one of those results will either cause a "new window" or a "new tab" to be opened depending on how you have the setting defined in preferences.  Neither of these supports the very simple and perfectly usable "back" and "forward" arrow functionality that the planet has been using for the last number of years.
While I'm sure there is a good reason for this - I don't really care.
The previous "back" and "forward" functionality was great for jumping back and forth from site to site and other competing browsers (such as chrome) still have this as their default functionality.
Apple, please at least provide the option of choosing "tabs", "new windows" or (just my name for the above) "legacy".
Is there a way to create a voting buttons on this forum.
It would be interesting to see how the community views this.
What is the best way to show Apple what their users are thinking?
    Greg

You can middle-click a link to open a link in a new tab or Shift + left click the link to open in a new window. Then you do not need an extension (that might stop qworking) to prevent replacing the current tab.
