Annoying Sound on iMovie Playback

When playing back an iMovie made with the built in iSight camera on my MacBook the playback has an annoying ringing sound on it. This occurs with all of the iMovie videos I've made (All five of them! ). I have not downloaded any iMovie videos from any other source. The sound is regular and consistent.
I do not hear this ringing on my iMac or on my relative's MacBook.
Any ideas?

i created several movies in ilife08....and was able to hear the audio on both the event and project libraries. then today i upgraded to leopard.. and i can't hear the audio on these same events and projects. i can see that sound is playing - and when i share on youtube - there is audio..
i just can't hear it.
i've checked the obvious - like the mute... but can't seem to figure out whats wrong.
thanks for your time. - paula

  • No Sound during iMovie playback

When I play video from the camera through imovie, I can hear sound through the computer. While importing, I hear sound through the computer. Playing the imported clip back in iMovie will not play sound. I have the audio tracks checked, etc. I can drag the clip to the desktop, and hear sound in quicktime, and I can hear the sound when exported to idvd. Any suggestions on getting sound through iMovie?

WE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM HERE AT THE ALBERNI PROJECT (ALBERNIPROJECT.ORG). WE CAN'T US ANY CLIPS OF EITHER .MOV OR .MPEG CONVERTED OVER TO .MOV AND HAVE THE SOUND COME THROUGH. WE HAVE WRITTEN TO MAC SUPPORT TWICE WITH NO RESPONSE, TOOK THE PROBLEM TO THE STORE WHERE WE PURCHASED THIS G5 FROM AND EXPLAINED OUR PROBLEM AND THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE "SUGGESTIONS" FROM THE HELP KEY ON IMOVIE HD WHICH DOESN'T FIX OUR PROBLEM OF NO SOUND IN PLAYBACK EDITING DURING MEDIA CREATION. - LEWIS BARTHOLOMEW - PROJECT DIRECTOR

  • No sound in imovie using mpeg videos. HELP!

Hi, im a newbie, so I have lots of questions with sound in imovie.
I have a digital camrea which does the mpeg movie thing.
so when I import the movie into imovie I see the video but I hear no sound.
I know this was covered in some topics, but I being new to this I really didnt understand.
Im hoping that someone here and point me in the right direction.
    Thank you.

Hi PK - welcome to the forum!
Increasingly, people with digital still cameras want to import their short movie clips created with that camera. BUT the catch is that these movies are NOT in .dv format. They are MPEGs, and if they are MPEG1 or MPEG2 then they must be converted to DV before they will import into iMovie with the audio able to play.
This conversion usually can be done with a free app. called MPEG StreamClip, but may also need another piece of software called the Apple MPEG2 Playback Component (which costs about $20)..
A search in this forum for those, will give you several threads on the issue!
Look here, for example, for more about the method required:
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/%7Eshmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#edit_convertMPEG
NOTE that iMovie was designed for DV use (a high-quality editing format), not the much lower quality MPEG footage.

  • Macbook Pro Hard disk Makes an annoying sound (buzz) while working but functions properly.

I've got this Macbook Pro 13 inch 2.4 Intel core i5 processor. After about a year the hard disk without any reason started to make an annoying sound (buzzing) while working that sometimes quiets down but when I move the laptop it starts all over again !! Also when I put it down on a side like on my bed while I'm lying on the bed it makes the same sound !! Like when I move the laptop I can hear the buzzing sound changing !! The hard disk functions pretty well though!! What's the problem? I tried Verifying and Reparing the Disk as my father suggested and that helped a bit but after like 10 minutes it's starts again. Any ideas? Have you guys ever seen such a thing before? What should I do?

I have the same issue you're having.
When it first happened (soon after I bought my late 2013 15" MBP), eventually my motherboard and Retina display crashed and needed to be replaced. Now after a couple of months being repaired, I started getting the same clicking sounds opening web browsers or apps, etc. I'm worried its the same thing with the motherboard and or retina display starting to fail again.
Im going to have it checked out however like you said, It's hard to replicate on the spot.
Please LMK if you have any updates on the cause and I'll do the same.
    Thanks!

  • No Sound in iMovie 10 imports

    Hi everyone,
i've made several screen recordings and wanted to edit them with the newest version of iMovie. The video clips are all having sound while playing them with QuickTimePlayer and VLC Media Player, but as I imported them with iMovie, the sound in the video was lost. Can you help me?
I'm looking forward to your suggestions.
    Greetings from Germany.

Hey there. You might have been bitten by the
installer permissions problem. Open Disk Utility and
repair your permissions. There is also a QuickTime
    7.1.2 installer available.
Finally, try forcing prebinding to run. Open a
Terminal window, and type the following:
    sudo update_prebinding -root / -force
This is useful for repairing system slow-downs, but I
have also found that this will fix situations in
which I have done updates, and the applications which
depend upon modules modified in the update don't "get
it" so far as the new updated modules.
    Thanks for your reply.
I've tried repairing permissions, I've now downloaded and installed QuickTime 7.1.2 and have tried forcing prebinding all to no avail!
There is still no sound in iMovie but iTunes etc. work ok.
If there's no solution forthcoming I'll be forced to reinstall Tiger to enable me to go back to QuickTime 7.0.4

  • Loss of sound and video playback on ENVY X2

Every so often, more often than I would like, my HP Envy X2 loses sound and video playback capabilities; any ideas anybody? The concept of this machine is great and have had it for the past 9 months but this loss of sound and vision is so unpredictable and frustating...

    Hi Brumage,
I saw your post regarding the sound and video issues and I will be happy to help. Do you get any error messages when this happens? Have noticed if it is a particular site like YouTube or program that you are using when the issue occurs or does it occur on all programs? When you restarted the Envy X2 does the issue go away?
I would start by suggesting that you make sure all updates have been installed through HP Support Assistant and Windows Update.
What operating system are you running? What is your product number?
Find your product number on a notebook:

  • MPEGs with sound in iMovie

Well I have a digital camera that records movies with sound, but when I try to import them into iMovie they end up with no sound. The help manual says that MPEGs wont work with sound in iMovie. So I was wondering, is there anyway to convert my MPEG movies into somthing iMovie compatible for sound like a .mov or DV. I've tried many products but they all seem to convert the video and leave the sound out just like iMovie does? Please help me.

  • Quicktime 7.5 causes jerky iMovie playback

When - oh when will Apple fix the "Jerky iMovie Playback Problem" caused by Quicktime 7.5?
I would love to see a response by somebody from the Apple Corporation, or are they
too busy with the iPhone and iPod?
    Hank

    Hiya,
and hello from London. Just a thought: you could post Apple feedback of the problems you got:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/feedback/
It might be an idea to put more technical feedback in there (e.g. open applications/utilities/console and see what happens, when QT IS actually jittery.:~/
Also compare that with what's happening in activity monitor (e.g. are the processors running unusually high, compared to other QT use? or is the memory low? or is harddrive space low?).
If this is a bug that needs fixing, by giving the technical data to apple, this can be used to issue a fix.

  • No Sound in iMovie Import

    Hello everyone:
I am trying to import a movie from my Sony DSC W100 camera.
The movie downloads to iMovie great, but I can't get any sound. I've checked the various volume controls on the camera, computer, and iMovie and everything seems to be where it should be. (And when I play the movie on my camera, there is sound.) But not so much as a peep of sound on iMovie.
I am using the USB connection - not a firewire connection (which I don't have for this camera).
My computer is an iMac with OS 10.4.9. I'm using iMovie 3.0.3.
Any guidance or suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums.
Looking quicking at some posted specs, your camera records in MPEG VX format (a form of mpeg1 or mpeg2?), which means that iMovie is converting that video format (MPEG) into a form it understands (DV Stream). If you open one of the iMovie clips using Quicktime, use the Movie Properties command to see if it has an audio track.
If there's no audio track, probably the video was muxed (audio and video mixed together). Typical recommendation is to use MPEG Streamclip to do the conversion from MPEG to DV Stream, but often you'll also need (to buy) Apple's MPEG plugin for Quicktime.

  • No sound in iMovie 5

After upgrading to Quicktime 7.1.1 I've lost sound in iMovie 5.
Previously recorded movies have lost their sound together with any new recordings I make. Volume levels are still shown in the timeline but no sound is produced. All other applications appear to be working normally (iTunes, GarageBand, Audacity etc.).
To restore sound in iMovie I've had to reinstall Tiger together with updates to the current OS 10.4.7 and then install Quicktime 7.0.4.
Strangely this problem doesn't exist on my wifes eMac running OS 10.4.7 and the Quicktime 7.1.1 upgrade. Sound in iMovie 5 works perfectly.
(Quicktime Pro is also installed on my G4 and my wife's eMac)

  • IDVD burn has no sound in iMovie timeline video only

I used iMovie and iDVD to create a DVD. The DVD has an intro movie (that plays when the DVD is inserted), menus with motion and sound, a main feature with chapters, and a "bonus" short movie clip.
The intro movie, the bonus movie, and the menu movie all were dropped onto iDVD from individual .mov files. They all work fine in the disk image that I exported.
However, the main feature with chapters, which is an edited project that resides in iMovie's timeline, does not have any sound in the final exported disk image. Its sound in iMovie is contained in the 2nd audio-only track (the only one that is checked in iMovie) and it plays fine in the iDVD project.
Why is the sound missing in the exported DVD disk image, ONLY in the main feature when it works fine in the iDVD project?
It took 4+ hours to export the disk image... now it appears that time was wasted. I want to be sure that it exports correctly next time.
    I have iDVD 6.0.1 and iMovie 6.0.1
    Please help!

    Welcome Ricky Brigante
Not exactly sure what the issue is here on why it failed to burn the audio as well but did you look thru the iDVD help menu first?
Here's the info I found and I hope it's helpful:
Preparing QuickTime movies to work with iDVD
If your video-editing application can export to QuickTime, you can create movies that you can add to your iDVD project. iDVD supports most video or image files supported by QuickTime.
QuickTime movies smaller than the standard DVD size of 720 x 480 (NTSC) or 720 x 576 (PAL) are scaled to fit the DVD window, which may decrease the image quality.
For best results, in the QuickTime export settings of your video-editing application, choose NTSC-DV with a frame rate of 29.97 or PAL-DV with a frame rate of 25. Choose No Compression for audio and set the sample rate to 48 kHz.
Not all QuickTime formats can be added to your iDVD project. For example, MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files, QuickTime VR movies, and movies with sprite or Flash tracks cannot be added.
Note: If you drag a QuickTime movie file to an audio well in iDVD, iDVD uses the first audio track in the file and none of the video.

I tried looking around the site for some answers to get rid of the annoying sound effect after a page loads in iTunes 8 on Windows Vista. I have found the answer!
*Vista users:* Right click on your desktop, and then go all the way down and click "Personalize". Then in personalize, click "Sounds". Scroll down until you see the iTunes category. Then simply click the "Page load complete" sound and choose (None) as the sound.
