Annoying sound when typing - How to fix it!

As delivered, the Powerbooks make annoying sounds for each keypress when you're typing. This is actually a twofold problem, so you may have to do two things to fix it.
1. If your Book is running a non-English version of the OS, each keypress will cause audible harddrive head motion. This is caused by some bug that actually prints two error messages to a certain system log file for each and every keypress!!! This is fixed by (a) enabling the root user (using the NetInfo Manager utility), and (b) setting the keyboard layout for the root user to 'U.S.' (not 'U.S. extended'). This MAY have been fixed by a system update by now (I haven't checked), but if it hasn't, you'll know what to do!
2. There is also a chirping sound for each keypress. This must be caused by poor logic board design, since it ocurs whenever there is a power surge from the processor. The fix is to disable processor 'nap', something that unfortunately must be done after each reboot. To do this, you must install the Processor PreferencePane, which can be found in the CHUD tools dowloadable from Apple's developer site. The Processor PrefPane is in there somewhere in the CHUD files, but you have to dig around **inside** the packages to find it! Once you do, drop it in Library/Preference Panes and find it in System Preferences. Disable 'nap' and you're done, until you reboot anyway.
Finally, you can type without annoyance!

hi sub2013,
Thank for using Lenovo Community Forums!
Try Going to the Device setting of your touchpad,
Go to Control Panel > Hardware and sound / Mouse
Under mouse properties, on top the last tab should be the settings tab of your touchpad it's either Synaptics or Elan,
click the device on the list then click on settings.
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Now you will have the device settings interface
try looking for two option,
One is sensitivity Try reducing it,
and the other will be Palm Check Move the bar and check works for you.
You can also try downloading a driver from synaptics http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers
see if that works. make sure to un-install the old one first before installing a new one.
Hope this helps,
Cheers!

  • Should Keyboard have the "clicking" sound when typing?

I noticed that the MacBook Pros, when typing on them, have the clicking sound when pressing each key. My wired keyboard also has a clicking sound when typing. However, the MBA I just received in the mail, does not. Only the space bar essentially does. Is this the same for all of them? Thanks.

Yes, this is normal. The keys don't really click, the spacebar isn't really a click but it makes a slightly more click like sound the other keys on the MBA.
The latest MBP keys are more like the MBA keys I believe.

  • [partially fixed] Firefox3.6 annoying sound when I click a bookmark.

The annoying sound started happening with the 3.6 update. It happens when I click any bookmark, or menu item. How do I turn this off? I've checked out about:config and set
    accessibility.typeaheadfind.enablesound
    liberator.saved.accessibility.typeaheadfind.enablesound
    both to false.
    Any help would be appreciated

I guess I will hold out on upgrading until I see this resolved. This is exactly the kind of thing that I want to avoid with Arch. Having unwanted sounds is especially bad when you don't run a sound server and therefore can only have one sound-making program at a time.
    BTW, does adding:
    gtk-event-enable-sounds=0
to ~/.gtkrc kill the sounds? This will disable GTK sounds globally though (which may be wanted ). Firefox really shouldn't make sounds by default though!
    Editing ~/.gtkrc-2.0
and adding the following line to it:
    gtk-enable-event-sounds=0
and then restarting ff3.6 DOES turn the sound off, but it will turn off sound for ALL gtk apps.

  • Mic level too high when recorded, how to fix?

I have an interview where the mic level has been too high when recorded.
The sound is basically usable, it's not all rubbish, but how to fix this?
I know there are tools for this, just don't know what they are.
    Thanks for helping.

If the audio is clipped there's not much you can do other than re-record. But there is this: http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/RX/

  • Annoying bugs in Lion, How to fix?

I have some bugs in lion which i think to share and find solution since it can be usefull for all...
    so 3 of them are:
    - when i'm using another desktop and i'm navigating between them, sometimes i get stuck in one desktop without possibility to navigate back, and even when i'm using cmd+tab / or any other keyboard shortcuts, i get no respond. I mean - no access as well for the dashboard, mission control, the dock, launchpad, show desktop gesture, any trackpad gesture as well.. anything from the new stuff in lion.. just the finder. must restart.
    - sometimes the hot corners stop to respond.
    - i'm arranging the launchpad apps in folders and in some arrange which is comfort for me to use, after restart, it get mess a bit and need to re arrange. confusing.
well.. that's what i mostly remember now..
I really hope some of you have a solution how to fix it..
    really appreciated
    cheers

Accidentally I managed to drag some photos from Aperture into Mail with both apps running in full screen mode. It is not quite straight forward and it took sometime for me to figure it out. I don't know what is wrong but I'm sure Apple can fix this with an update in future. I could now drag pictures from Safari, photos from Aperture with ease. I have included some screen shots which could help you guys understand better. At present I must agree P@nt@ni solution seem to be better for this problem. Ensure that you enable 3 finger drag in system preferences (under trackpad) as 1 finger drag didn't work for me in this method.
By mistake I gave myself "correct answer" credit, doesn't anyone how to remove it, please

  • E7 "warning tones" annoying "click" when typing on...

This may not apply to all language versions of the E7, but when typing in Taiwan Chinese, once you've typed in the "Zhuyin" symbols and are given a choice of different Chinese to select, if you scroll down to the Chinese and hit "enter" it will make an annoying "click" every time you select the word. Otherwise, you have to disable warning tones to use the keyboard or use the "number select" method not to hear the "click". I don't see what's the purpose of having a "warning tone" when one is typing and selecting words.

Thanks. I have tried this lots of times but no joy.
Im pretty certain it only seems to be happening when I am using Outlook......

  • "Boing" sound when typing

I don't really know how to phrase this question, but here goes.
Lately, when working either in a browser (Firefox) or when writing an email (Thunderbird), while I'm typing I'll start to get a "boing" sound with every keystroke, and then the keystrokes won't register on the screen. It's as if I'm overloading the system, but, of course, I don't really type that fast. I'm just using a regular aluminum keyboard as I always do. There is no touchpad or anything that might be causing problems.
The computer is otherwise operating normally.
How do I troubleshoot this problem? Let me know if there are further details to provide.
    Thanks.

Thanks, Carolyn, but it was already deselected.
And when this happens, not only is there the "boing" sound, which isn't one of the Apple sounds listed, anyway, but the computer stops taking input until I stop for a couple seconds. It only occurs when I am typing, and only in the middle of a long input.
Maybe it's Firefox or Thunderbird, although it's strange that it would happen on both.

  • Acrobat X Pro, wont stop crashing when starting, how to fix this?

acrobat X pro wont stay launched, crashes when it goes to the dock, or opens then crashes when you attempt to open a document, have uninstalled, reinstalled sw 4 times, still no fix, spent 10 hours on the phone with support, no fix.

    Hi John,
Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having.
Is Acrobat X part of a Suite?  If so, you may be encountering the issue described here: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/acrobat-failed-launch-30-days.html
If that's not the case, could you share some information about your system setup?
What version of Acrobat X do you have installed?  You can 'Get Info' on the application for the specific version number.
What version of Mac OSX are you running?
Have you tried launching Acrobat from another admin user account?
Have you tried repairing your disk permissions from Disk Utility?
Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this quickly for you!

  • I have no sound when typing or playing music?

My 4s makes no noise when I type, slide open the lock screen, or try to play music through Pandora. I have tried updating the software, rebooting several times, turn phone of/on several times. Any ideas.

  • Annoying Sound when clicking ALT;CTRL;FN OR CMD

Hello Mac Users. I come from a very Microsoft friendly family but I recently bought a Mac and I'm completely new and still learning. Every time I click Ctrl or Alt or Cmd or Fn it makes this clicking sound. If I press it twice it locks the button, say I press shift once, then twice it locks shift and every pad on the keyboard i touch becomes like I was holding Shift in. Is there anything I've pressed wrong? I dont know what operating system I've got, just that its a mac with 3.1 ghz and its a 814 model. Newly bought.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Sincerely your mac noob.

Check in System Preferences > Universal Access > Keyboard tab > Turn Slow Keys off.
    Regards,
    Captfred
Edit: check Sticky Keys also.  Turn off if necessary.

  • Ichat was hiccuping when typing and i fixed it like this

turns out i had to many names in my ichat (ten years of aim/ichat) and everytime someone would log in or out and ichat would rearrange the names (normal behaviour) my typing in the chat window would hiccup or pause... was driving me nuts so... i created a new account with only the 10 or so people i actually talk to... in the process i learned that while i have BOTH buddy lists open on my desktop i can simply scroll down through the old list and drag over the people i want to add... made making a new list SO easy
just thought i would share this.

    Hi,
    As a note.
The AIM Buddy lists used to be limited to 200 Buddies before you could not add any more.
I have heard the Buddy list can now be 600 names but have never had my own list that high.
You can delete a Buddy in iChat by highlighting the name and using the Backspace Key and saying yes to the Confirm message.
Holding the Shift key and clicking two Buddies on the Buddy List will include all those i8n between.
Clicking on different Buddies whilst holding down the Apple Key will highlight only those Clicked on.
These two methods allow you delete buddies en masse if needed.
