Annoying things about 10.5

Apparently I'm not the power user I once was, when I used to wield ResEdit with impunity against System 7. Even with a UNIX background, I'm finding each successive release of the OS more complex to comprehend.
Here's a short list of annoyances I've encountered since my recent 10.4->10.5 upgrade. I'm hoping there are settings, configs, etc. that I'm just missing, but thought this forum would be an excellent place to begin (so apologies if these appear really basic, but I haven't found the answers elsewhere thusfar):
1. In pre-10.5, a folder placed on the dock would display its contents as a list when you moused down on the icon in the dock. Seems that's no longer possible.
2. When I double-click a document associated with an already-running app, the document will open in the app, but its window will be beneath any other windows already open -- really annoying and sometimes I miss the fact that the document has actually been opened.
3. If Spaces is running and I double-click a document in one space that is associated with an app that is already running in another space, the document will be opened in the app (see (2)) but Spaces will not switch focus to the space within which the app is running.
4. I haven't figured out any efficient (or possible) way to drag and drop files between executables running in different Spaces.

Thanks (to yourself and everyone) for the guidance.
1. On the issue of seeing the contents of docked folders -- in pre-10.5, if I mouse down on a docked folder, the contents of the folder appear as a list at the top of the resulting pop-out window. In 10.5, that's not a configurable behavior: you can choose to see the docked folder's icon as a folder or a 'stack' of the icons of its contents ("Display as [Folder|Stack]"), and you can set the default View setting for the folder to 'list' (but only if you "Open" or "Show in Finder" the folder ("View Content as..."). You can't see the list of contents directly from the Dock.
This was really useful when I had folders containing all my browsers, all my media players, etc. I could very quickly launch one straight from the Dock, without cluttering the Dock permanently with a preserved icon for each one. Now at a minimum I've added two steps: opening a window for the folder, then finding and launching the app/file. So I guess "better" is in the eyes of the beholder.
For (2, 3, 4) I suspect what was hinted at in a subsequent reply: Microsoft and Spaces aren't playing nice together. I observe this behavior particularly in the Office apps (probably time to re-consider OpenOffice...) but Preview is doing the same thing, which is unexpected.

The system doesn’t recognize or capitalize the word (I) or the first word of every sentence. Another really annoying thing about the integrated mail on your Mac computers is the fact that the system learns the word as you type it more and more instead of highlighting it as incorrectly is this is a word that’s being misspelled. Can Apple fix this bug to make it user friendly as if you were using Office or a Word Document?

You hit the target CT.
It’s only fair that if Apple is going to integrate Mail into Mac PCs, it would be nice if the system does it for you like Office or perhaps Outlook. I just don’t to use Outlook although I have it installed and ready to use, but instead use Mail which comes with Mac OS already.
I hope to make some sense here.

• Is there a way to change 2 really annoying things about the iTouch?

I have a 16gb Ipod Touch and was wondering if there was a way to disable these 2 really annoying features.
1. When your listening to music and turn it sideways it goes to album view and you have to look at your ipod to go to the next song since it gets rid of the Next / pause / back buttons.(( i listen to the ipod in bed so i usually just hit next song and be done with it.
2. The auto correct when your typing because im pretty good at typing on the itouch. Example... i type a word and the itouch suggests a word that is somewhat similar and if you dont click the x next to the suggestion it will put that word in automaticly(( if your a fast touch typer like me it puts the word in if you hit space and its REALLY annoying.
If anyone knows any ways to stop these 2 things thank you.

1. Take a look at the [Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic|http://www.apple.com/ipod/inearheadphones>. Specifically
The control capsule located on the cable of the right earpiece includes a microphone and three buttons. With this convenient remote, you can adjust the volume, control music or video playback — including play/pause and next/previous...
2. What I have read here is that the more you click the x to dismiss wrong autofills, the more the Touch will learn about your particular typing habits. Try touching that x more often, and see if your Touch gets trained. I am not speaking from my own experience here, as I don't type on my Touch very much yet.
Regards.

• Bugs / Annoying things in OS X Mavericks

I am running a MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012 model
I recently updated with the OS X Mavericks ,
everything about the software upgrade is really marvellous and i am loving them ,
it just enhanced the pace of my working style in OS X
still i find few bugs / annoying things in this OS X
Clearing up even fewer items in the trash takes a very long time, Which was not the same in mountain lion.
Energy Conservation not very effective
Memory compression isn’t working as demonstrated in the keynote
in iPhoto the pictures aren’t auto-splitted into “Events" in “Events”tab.
the shutting down and booting up takes ages !! no improvements from the mountain lion in that perspective
gmail , hotmail sync with the mail app isn't great , need more enhancements
new mails take long time to download
imessage fail miserably, i have to use my iPhone to iMessage people
It will be great if the Big A notices these bugs and resolve them in the next upgrade, or if anyone could get me an alternate solutions to these bugs

• Really annoying quirk about loading pages

Alright, this is more of a complaint than a request for help- I'm only posting it on the boards because I can't actually submit a bug report to Apple about it. Grrr.
I have the newest version of Safari and it might be because I'm running 10.5.8 on a PowerPC but any time I'm typing something before a page is fully loaded, it'll delete or rearrange what I've typed by the time the page loads. EG: like let's say I google "tulip" and hit search but realize I meant to google "tulip farming in the Northwest", well I'll start typing "farming in th..." after tulips and suddenly the page will finish loading and my search bar looks like [ farming in th|tulip ] with my cursor like that as well. It's annoying as ****! Or it'll just completely delete it and leave me with [ tulip ].
It does the same thing with videos. A Youtube video will already be partially loaded and playing and once the page is done loading it'll restart the video and restart loading. I doubt it would suck this much if this new version of Safari wasn't such a top heavy monster that eats up processing when it runs and takes forever to load a page. I just want a simple, fast, light web browser without all the dumb add-ons like the Safari used to be.
Grrr. Nu?

Another annoying quirk about this message board- my tulip example was screwy looking cause I used brackets so it codified it without my explicit permission. Whatev, right? But then I go to edit it, I save the changes and NOTHING HAPPENS. what do they have to approve it? I wrote the freaking original, it should automatically be corrected.

• Annoying things in Acrobat 8 and 9

Dear Acrobat Programmers,
I don't know where i have to send it, so i post it here.
I thought that i candle handle with all annoying things in Acrobat 8 (9 as well, all newest upgrades), but - no more. I have sometimes a lot of work and i'm going crazy with all the problems.
1. I'm working always with two monitors (maybe this it the isssue?? no idea).
2. It is not happening only on my computer. Tested on 5 or more computers.
When i open more than one document (two and more instances of Acrobat) TouchUp Tool doesn't work any more. Why? The same in Acrobat 8,9.
I can not even change the properties of objects.
When i do some mark up on one page, and copied that and paste to another page it is going to paste exactly in the middle of the page. Why not in the same point as it was on page, from i copied this markup? And when i need to move it (text boxes, rectangles, and so on) it is really slow operation - like it would needed best computer on the world. It is only moving of couple vector objects. Is it so complicated for Acrobat to do it fast? Even Windows can move whole applications with movies inside without issues.
With two or more opened documents - moving the pages between documents doesn't work always as it should. Sometimes moved page is going somewhere else, not in this position where i wanted to.
Updates:
Why the hell Acrobat needs to restart my computer all the time after updates?
What is it?? Proccess with so high priority as rundll32???? A part of windows system?? As far as i know it is not.
Guys, i'm begin you. Change the way of updating Acrobat somehow.
Once i had a document - all pages with background (simple Text - New Revision, Old Revision). I tried to open this document in Acrobat 9 Trial.
Guess what - my backgrounds went to hell - left only cutted words New and Old - word Revision somehow dissapeared.
Comments and Markups - sometimes it simply doesn't work - i have to close all Acrobats and start it again.... and again.... i hate it.
When i paste the pictures, excel documents - why it is always so big after? To make it smaller in Acrobat it is a challenge. Really.
Anyone from other users has the same??
Best regards
Proxonic

Do you know what is the best thing about the retina display? the answer is they've solved the issue of the dead and stuck pixels thing you know how because the pixels are very very small so u can't see if it's working or not some day you will walking around holding your new ipad and you don't even know the plenty pixels that are dead and you can't notice them HAHAHA that was a good one LOVE YA APPLE.

I doubt that's the reason Apple spent the money on retina displays, but a good observation.

• A strange thing about saving files in Mac OS X

I've noticed a strange thing about saving files in Mac OS X.
In the save dialog, you click a folder to save into that folder.
Well, if you accidentally click a file instead of a folder, the name of the document you're saving is changed to the name of that file! Then you have to retype the name, or cancel out of the process and start over.
I don't see why you would want to change the name of the file you're saving to the name of a file that already exists, unless you want to overwrite the existing file (unlikely), but maybe there's a reason for this I'm overlooking.

The Mac OS didn't used to do that. There must have been a lot of requests for it though. Especially from Windows switchers I would imagine, since you've always been able to do that in Windows.
Sometimes I like being able to pick up the a name I do want to replace right from the Save dialogue. Most of the time though, I think it's a dangerous option. I don't know if there's a way to turn that behavior off.

• What’s the strangest thing about the Java platform?

Hello All,
In an interview (http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Interviews/bloch_effective_08_qa.html) that I did with Joshua Bloch on java.sun.com, promoting the revised version of “Effective Java”, he discusses generics, enums, annotations, the under-use of Java libraries, the importance of minimizing the accessibility of classes and members and minimizing mutability, and other matters.
To my question: “What’s the strangest thing about the Java platform?” his answer was: “I'm going to say that the strangest thing about the Java platform is that the byte type is signed. I've never heard an explanation for this. It's quite counterintuitive and causes all sorts of errors.”

one obstacle, quickly removed. thank you.
nomenclature aside for a moment, 10.6.8 is correct but maybe more is necessary about the MacBook Pro: it is 'old': Identifier: 1.2, Intel Core Duo, 2.16 GHz, 1 Processor, L2 2 MB, RAM 2 GB.
i hope that is enough to get an answer to this: is it unadvisable to update its OS; in other words, if i update to 10.9, will the machine be able to handle it, 'speedwise'?

• I am hearing some not-so-good things about Verizon.

I am hearing some not-so-good things about Verizon. Why aren't I hearing about the new pricing from you? If I have to pay more than I am now, I will switch providers in December when my contract is up. I have put my phone as a priority and food on the back burner!!!!!!!!! Let's hear it from the horse's mouth!!!!

I want information...from Verizon...do you work for them? I also want to hear from other people about their opinions/questions on the subject...I watch Robyn Meade in the morning and on that news program, they were talking about AT&T and Verizon increasing their charges for data...T-Mobil and Sprint won't be doing that. They were just warning us...their info is pretty reliable. I just want to hear it from the horse's mouth and know the truth about what is coming up. I have found that I have to check on things and double check, so I don't get "half" the info I need to make a good decision. I am not wealthy, and need to protect my priorities. I have been satisfied with Verizon service so far...just don't want any surprises. My contract is due to expire in Dec. so I need to make a decision about what service to use. I tried using the "chat" this morning and didn't get an answer, just a "link", so I am using all the avenues I can think of to
